La castañeda fue el centro psiquiátrico más grande de México hasta la segunda mitad del siglo XX. En 1969 la fachada fue rescatada por Arturo Quintana, fundador de la empresa AQ Industrial, quien compró la fachada del manicomio y la trasladó piedra por piedra a un terreno de su propiedad en Amecameca, Edo. de México.
El lugar está cerrado para el público en general pero para caminantes es un bue lugar a visitar

A lovely place to immerse yourself in nature, just minutes from Mexico City! I recommend it for camping and a delicious barbecue with friends and family!

Beautiful place for hiking, the bad thing is that to get to the trail that leads to the waterfall there are locals charging 30 per person and then further up there's another person charging 🤷♀️ there's another 20😥
A quiet place to be in contact with nature, a 25-minute walk from the center of Amecameca. This place is located at the foot of the mountain, with a stream and many trees, welcoming us to the route towards the forest and the mountain, and for the more experienced hikers who intend to reach the Iztaccíhuatl volcano.
Closed to the general public, I attended a spiritual retreat and it's extremely beautiful inside! Gorgeous green areas, history, forest, waterfall—it's beautiful in Ameca.

Do you find it ethically correct that it belongs to the Legion and reflects the practices of Miguel Maciel? Do you think it's right that Televisa soap operas, films, commercials, and retreats are being filmed around a building that, as a national heritage site, could serve cultural and historical purposes?
It's already closed to the public; it's private, and they'll let you in. Everything is already fenced and there's 24-hour security, but there's no information as such.
Castañeda waterfall is on private property, so we were told it's a retreat spot. The road to get there is unpaved and in very bad condition.
They wouldn't let us in after traveling more than 1.5 kilometers on dirt roads. We couldn't even see it from a distance because the Legionaries of Christ had taken over not only the house but also the entire surrounding area.
