The staff was very friendly and helpful. Great selection of sweets as well as lunch items. Very cozy inside with plenty of seating, outside seating, also. Delicious variety.

This place is such a gem-we are lucky Chico has it. I've been coming here since I was a child and still go frequently. The cookies are great and we order cheesecake for birthdays. I go for lunch and sit on the patio (usually the vegetarian chili or the potato salad!). Check out the bulletin board for cool upcoming events or pick up a free local magazine or paper.

I love a bakery that offers many choices, and this bakery certainly meets that expectation. And, great choices at that. If that was all this bakery offered I would say go visit, but it's also a deli with a very appealing menu. All of this is offered in a well designed indoor and outdoor space that seats many. A must stop in Chico.

I came here on Tuesday evening and the gentleman that helped me was very great with his communication, so sweet and patient with me while I picked out my treats. The Oreo cupcake, cheesecake and salted caramel walnut brownie was absolutely delicious and the environment was really quiet and nice. I didn’t get the workers name but him alone is a great reason to visit in the afternoon as well as all the treats being absolutely amazing, you can’t go wrong here!

One of my favorite places in Chico. They always have the best quiche in town and so many great pastries to choose from. They also have art from local artist displayed on thier walls.

This place is marvelous! We had the quiche Lorraine and it was so Rich and lovely. We shared one though it was small it filled us both up. They have a wonderful selection of food there! The service was a bit slow but my daughter said she had never seen it this busy so they were really working hard. I would highly recommend it for any meal or dessert.

Love this place! I had the quiche Lorraine and it was fantastic. Their patio is dog friendly although they don't have any heat lamps in winter. My husband had a grilled cheese with turkey on cheesy focaccia bread and it was so yummy. The ambiance inside is cozy and nice. Will definitely go back!

I recently visited Chico and stopped by Upper Crust Bakery. The food was great as always, but I had accidently dropped a $100 bill while I was there. An honest staff member was cleaning up at the end of the day and found it and turned it in. The next day I went back to ask if they had found it and sure enough it was returned. Thank you for not only great food, but but for honest staff!

Service was great all smiles and laughs. Lovely young lady gave me a recommendation, and it was great. Had a large and delicious egg breakfast croissant and a cappuccino. Food was quick. I had just enough time to check my emails.My price was $10. Coffee was 3 sandwich was rest. It was definitely a 5-6 dollar sandwich once you see it.

Upper Crust made our wedding cake and it was amazing. It looked beautiful and tasted AMAZING!! We got so many compliments on it. We got 2 tiers of the caramel and one of the tuxedo. They made everything stress free. Will definitely be using them again in the future for parties and highly recommend for your wedding cake

If you haven't been Upper Crust and you've been in Chico for over a year you are missing out, they have the most amazing deserts of any kind almost majority of wedding cakes in Chico come from this Bakery / Deli /coffee house. I can probably say I've been there 30 plus times and I never once had a bad experience in any way shape or form love you guys hope you're in Chico as long as I'm around!!!

What an awesome bakery! There was so much I wanted to try but this was just a quick stop before farmers market and then lunch reservations a few hours later. The pumpkin spice latte I had was excellent. Very fast service. The fresh butter croissant was also delicious. At 9am on a Saturday it was busy but not crowded. The display case was packed with so many delicious looking baked treats and a lot of great lunch / brunch items. We actually did go back that same afternoon! I had a chocolate chip cookie and cherry mini cheesecake—both amazing. They sell local artists work in the sitting area, very delightful place.

I ordered a Grand Marnier cake for my daughter's 21st bday. I have to say, it was one of the best cakes I've had. The frosting wasn't overly sweet and the cake was moist. Delicious!

Their service is quick and professional, and their pastries rich with flavor without an overpowering sweet flavor. Overall they offer delicious food in a cozy environment. Be wary that the nearest non-street parking is a bit away, and street parking does go fast.

This has been one of my favorite spots since high school. We have shared many meals and ordered countless cakes from them over the years and the quality is always on point. Everything is good.

Stopped here on my way to work and didn't regret it! While there was somewhat of a lengthy line upon entering, it moved very quickly and wasn't a problem whatsoever. The customer service was excellent and answered all my questions, and provided awesome recommendations regarding various pastry options when asked. I got a delicious almond croissant, a yummy coconut lemon bar, and an egg and cheese bagel sandwhich, all of which were really great, so I'll definitely be back. I highly recommend this bakery next time you're craving baked goods and/or coffees!

This is the only place in town where we get birthday cakes, they are fabulous (just make sure you give them 48 hours notice)! Usually quite busy but 100% worth the wait. Great pastries, cakes, cookies, quiches, sandwiches, soups, coffee, pies, biscotti, macarons, macaroons, scones and more!

Love Upper Crust!! Take my children almost weekly for breakfast. The quiches are delicious. Also frequently order 1-2 dozen cookies for special events. The chocolate torte is my favorite from their desert case.

Everything you can hope for in a bakery! I am gluten free and there were options for me ! I got 3 things for less than 8 dollars and me and my husband couldn't even finish them ! It was wondering , everything tasted amazing.

I’ve stopped into the UC for lunch or bakery items from their case but I suddenly needed a birthday cake for the day after Christmas. On the Tuesday before I called the Upper Crust to see if 1- they were open 12/26 and 2- if I could place an order. I can’t describe how happy and relieved I was when the employee accepted my order! She was very friendly and helpful. She made suggestions about which chocolate cake sounded like it met my needs. She also accommodated my request for a raspberry filling. (A special order cake accepted the week of Christmas for 12/26??? YAY! That made my year!). It was beautiful, decadent and delicious. The frosting was smooth and creamy with a high quality chocolate flavor. The cake was moist with a delicious tender crumb. There was a perfect amount of raspberry filling. The cheerful decoration ( pretty piping with confetti sprinkles) made my family member tearfully happy. Thank you Upper Crust!

Recently I turned 40 and had a Gilmore girls themed birthday party and they came in clutch with a chocolate espresso cake that was so delicious. Upper Crust is one of my favorite places in town. I've been coming here for years for baked goods and soup, and everything they make is delicious. I'm writing a review now because I wanted to give them a shoutout for the amazing cake they made for my daughter's "Where the Wild Things Are" birthday party! I didn't have a very specific vision; I just sent the decorators some screenshots of pages from the book and told them to make whatever they thought would look good. They delivered! Wonderful little bakery! Visited twice while in town it was that good. Breakfast sandwiches are on point, lots of egg and the optional veggies are fantastic. Love their quiches, scones, and strudel. Great selection of tea and good coffee. Plus they're open early!

The employees made us feel very rushed and we were continuously asked what we wanted. It felt very pressured and like there wasn't enough time to look at the options or coffee menu. The pastry and Quiche we did order tasted great. Just not the atmosphere I was looking to have on my relaxed Sunday morning.

It's a great spot for coffee and pastry. The cakes are amazing. But the food is subpar. We went n got breakfast sandwiches and it's like any sandwiches nothing special. This time we wanna try the Korean salad. A 14.99 salad. It's not worth it. I'm expecting some Asian inspired ingredients. Nothing. It's shredded spicy pork over chopped cabbage. Not even a ginger or even basic teriyaki flavor. This time as well the baristas didn't call out our name on our coffee order. The drinks was sitting on the counter till we realized we were missing our drink. So coffee n pastries 5 ⭐️ However the food is 3⭐️ Service 4⭐️

If you want a great sandwich, you have to go check out, Upper Crust Bakery, they know what their doing here. I ordered the chicken sandwich with roasted green chili, that's right, green chili. If you're from, New Mexico, you would know why I'm so happy right now! Smile... The restaurant is awesome, and they have lots of goodies here, especially if you like pastries & cakes. Oh, and they even sale breakfast sandwiches as well. I would recommend to all my family and friends...

They don't really have accessible ordering. I'm deaf. I emailed them, they said I'd need to call to place the order. After explaining, they did it through email, but it wasn’t a direct order. Which is why I marked 3 stars on service. The cake however, I ordered a layered vegan vanilla cake, for my boyfriend. It was absolutely incredible! Amazing! 2 thumbs up and an "awesome" sign!! The "butter" cream frosting was phenomenal! The cake itself so deliciously moist! Even cold it wasn't difficult to cut, it was a smooth and soft to cut into.

Upper crust is one of the best bakeries in town. You can get any kind of baked goods here except for bread. All of their pastries are delicious, and there other foods are all amazing as well. One thing I do not order here is coffee. I have never had great coffee here because it is always a little too strong, and usually tastes very burnt. The fun downtown location, amazing service, and great food make this place a must visit in Chico.

Best bakery and sandwich place! I took off a star because I wanted a latte with my meal and was told that they don't do specialty drinks during their busy time. They seemed to have a hard time making decaf coffee during their busy time also. Food is great, but other places can do both, wonder why it's an issue for them. Just a heads up if you are in for lunch and want a special drink.

Great coffee and tea, but the real gems here are all the baked goods. You can sit out front under some ceiling fans and enjoy some treats, sip some coffee and watch the cars go by the downtown area.

As someone visiting from out of town who was wanting to try some cute pastries, I would have really appreciated some signage in the cafe to help us figure out what the ordering process is like. We were browsing the pastry case waiting for our turn to order when someone from the counter/register said she would help us. But when we got over to her, she was extremely confused that we didn’t have pastries yet for her to ring up, and then she told us we had to go back to the end of the line to order the pastries. Overall it was a confusing process that could have been alleviated by some directions signs or employees who know/can explain the process for new people. The macarons were good, other pastries ok. The “mocha freeze” tasted only like coffee and not like a mocha. Overall the food was decent, but nothing to write home about.

I would of given 5 stars but there was only two gluten free options, but that macaroon was off the hook!!! And this bench is amazing!!

The last few scones we have purchased has been dry and hard and just crumble when you try to break off a piece. The last scone we purchased was hard as a rock like it was a day old and not fresh.

Beautiful location with ample seating. The service was a bit slow due to the big rush, however the staff were very kind. I unfortunately did not enjoy their veggie sandwich and potato soup. I will try something different next time. Their sweets are delicious but they can be a bit too sweet at times. I enjoy their sugar cookies, especially when they’re seasonal!

This is one of our favorite places in town. I took away one star since everything there is too sweet. The drinks are too sweet (vanilla frost), the apple caramel is too sweet (over powering), even the coconut macaron. Someone needs to dial things down a bit. The atmosphere is great. Customer service is great. The place is clean and quiet. We were a party of 4. Plenty of food options. Next time we will stick with sandwiches and juices / less sweet drinks. Deserts here need to be fixed.

We order a couple of the breakfast quesadillas & an egg breakfast sandwich on ciabatta. The food was excellent the drinks were lukewarm at best. Even though we had a number and were told someone would bring us our food, they didn't bring our drinks and they sat on the counter for over 5 minutes until a customer came out and asked if anyone in the patio was named Bill because they have been calling my name. There were a lot of dirty tables and the only people bussing was the new customers who wanted a dirty table. We'll be back and I'll update the review if this was a quirky visit that is not typical.

Tables were all dirty and once we wiped it down ourselves, were still sticky and dirty as well as the benches. (Recommend bringing your own sanitation wipes) No hand soap in the bathrooms. And when asked to have our food warmed, were given barely warmed food and told the plate was warmed. Sadly not the experience we had hoped or paid for.

I don’t know. I keep trying this place and being let down. The pastries I’ve had were okay. Tried it again for lunch about two hours prior to closing and was told they didn’t have soup, weren’t heating up the single-serving quiche, and packing everything to-go because they didn’t have enough staff to let people sit at the tables. I was still trying to find a way to make it work but after the packing to-go comment, my party decided to just go to B Street instead and we left.

Food is good. The service is so bad. I’ve never had just one person take my order and I’ve never been able to place a group order and pay as a group because the staff is always trying to rush and ring us up before we’ve even completed our orders. Last time I was here with a group of four we had to order in two groups and then come back and order again because the person who rung us up didn’t get half of our dessert or drink orders. The staff are kind of friendly but give off a vibe like they hate their jobs.

The cakes are delicious and never miss. However every time I go to pick one up I have to prepare myself for the horrible customer service that is about to ensue. They always act like I’m the crazy one for even attempting to get a cake at a bakery! If you can withstand some attitude while getting a delicious cake this is the place for you.

Not good but not all bad. I'm starting to understand that my parents are no longer paying for college. Giving me a credit card to do whatever I want is over, dang. The reason I say this is I need to stay out of places that charge $13.75 for a sandwich, maybe? My 3 star review is for the lack of good service (Food great!). I think that most of the people that serve you and do a good job are great but there are 1 or 2 bad apples that make it tough for others. I now have gone to the bakery twice over the past week. The people that should be helping don't. Standing behind the counter they are talking to one another and I guess were suppose to wait until they have finished in order to be waited on. I waited in line this last time and had a girl wait on 2 people before me and then stare me straight in the face and walk away. I watched her go to the front of the kitchen and stand there with her arms folded and watching other employees working, must have been her break? Maybe I guess I need to apologize to them for being in a hurry? I get a half hour for lunch and it makes it difficult when you have to wait around to be waited on. I'm fairly certain the owner will never look at this. Cheers to Upper Crust for past performance!

Is it fair to judge a bakery for just one loaf of bread? Knowing they sell several other items? Sure, why not? After all is said and done, bread 🍞 🥯 🥖 can distinguish itself in a number of ways, enough to spike the reputations of talented bakers with the skills to pay the bills. I was offered just two bread options: Honey Wheat? and Sun-dried Tomato with Olives? Picked the latter for $7, after the young lady said she preferred the sun dried tomatoes which appeared a fair price. Young lady very pleasant, and when I asked if it could be sliced, she politely offered to do it but made no promises, just then the big bad wolf shunned the possibility, with a resounding “we don’t do that here.” Subject closed. Oh well, I marched out of there almost sold on the promise of a better bread. It was okey but not appealed in all areas. Sure, it is edible, but the experience fell short. Of course, one can slice it thin, and proceed to make a very special garlic bread, but solo would not meet the mark of specially good. So I gave it away to a stoner that will eat anything but gravel, no disrespect intended, so at best 2.5 Stars.

food is pretty good, expensive. they put up ai art tho. looks like shit. take it down. you work in a town full of young artists who deserve a chance to have their work posted up somewhere local. do better.

Consistently this past year I have been disappointed every time I go to Upper Crust for a quick meal or a treat. I am celiac and can rarely find something better than an overly sweet cookie or macaron. More often than not, their coffee is bitter, their GF fare, when available, is too sweet, and their salads portions are too big and are too salty. I miss the way they measured out the salad on a plate on a scale. You got the amount you wanted, not a huge helping. There was one price per pound and the scoops were reasonably sized. That way you could have more than just one of something and not empty your wallet trying to have a balanced meal. I gave more than one star because the deviled eggs I had today were actually tasty and not overly salted.

The food never fails - always fresh, tasty and creative even. The service on the other hand, leaves much to be desired. Specifically, the wait time and apparent confusion. We ordered two of the lunch specials today and it took FOREVER, even though it didn't appear to be that busy. Then, when they finally brought our order out, they mistakenly gave it to another customer who ordered much later than we did. Fuming. Other customers seemed to be a little frustrated too. They figured it out and off we went to the park to enjoy - finally. We get there: no dressing. Wow. Whatever. I don't think I want to go back for awhile even though the food is great.

For years I have loved everything I’ve gotten from the Upper Crust until recently. Unfortunately the Red Velvet cake I purchased in celebration my friend’s birthday was all frosting and very little cake! We ended up throwing half the cake away. I let the staff know about our experience and figured it was just a rare occurrence. They gave me a loaf of banana bread and that bread was also inedible. It completely crumbled when we tried to cut it. Something wasn’t right. I haven’t totally given up on Upper Crust but am disappointed in recent baked goods.

The cakes and pastries are delicious. Unfortunately the service is not. I called and asked for a chocolate cake I was told they had several I could choose from. I was also told that if I purchased an Easter cake I could get another cake any cake for free. I make the long drive once I got there, some of the girls were saying yes and others were saying no, that was not the special. Turns out I drove all the way there and I didn’t get the offer. Worst part was they were not nice about it. Seemed like they were racist I felt discriminated i couldn’t wait to get out of there.

I had a piece of cake at a restaurant that a table was sharing with us. It was very good so I wanted the same thing for my 72nd birthday. We usually dont spend that much on cakes but we splurged. I told them it was the black forest with a fluffy frosting , I was told it was usually choc but they could do cream cheese frosting, I said it didn't look like cream cheese or taste like it., it was fluffy. that night I realized it was whipping cream and called the next morning. They said it was too late my cake was already made 2 days early. after talking to the manager they said they would fix it. well when we picked it up they had scraped the cream cheese frosting off and put whipped cream on the outside but unfortunately left it between the layers and a thin line on the outside. I was very disappointed that they did not listen to me the first time I called and then did not fix it like they said they did. We love upper crust cakes, my daughter in law gets several cakes there every year but I was not happy with how they handled my order.

The good... the food is good. A local favorite. I like the art for sale on the walls. The bad... I feel like it has gone downhill over the last five years. The service folks were all over the place and a bit on the snappy side. The hours are limited and the baked goods are over priced. The ugly..16.99 for 6 Easter cookies!

The staff is always very nice and I know they have good quality food but for both of my baby showers I have ordered the cakes from here and their quality in cakes is very poor. I sent them very specific pictures and the cakes ended up looking extremely disappointing. The frosting had bled all over the cake, they didnt follow the example given to them for decorating and went their own way, the cake was dry with hardly any filling and WAY too much frosting. I reccomend ordering custom cakes anywhere but here.

Overpriced. Open early at 6:30 am, good coffee, a pretty uninspiring $12.50 bacon egg and cheese. A Large Coffee and Bacon egg and cheese English muffin cost $19.67

We have purchased many custom cakes over the years and the recent cake was disappointing from start to finish. When we arrived (from out of town) for pick-up they could not find it and when they did there was no decorations on the top which was requested at the time of the order. It was for a special guest and it was to be a celabratory moment to share the cake with him. The staff member sent the cake back to the kitchen for the needed decorations. We were understanding and were just happy to get the cake home. Obviously the rum rasberry cake had new ingredients which included gloppy jam spread throughout the cake. It was nothing like the rasberry cakes we had enjoyed in the past. It immediately gave us indigestion and we tossed 3/4 of the cake, it was inedible. We know Upper Crust has plenty of customers and it won't matter that we are not one of them anymore.

The cookies were good, but that was the only good thing. The staff was so disorganized! When they brought out our food (to go), they forgot our sides and utensils (check your order before you go!). When we opened up our sandwiches, the tuna melt was incredibly unappetizing (wit a huge rounded blob (larger than a fist) of melted cheese sitting on top of an unrecognizable sandwich). I traded it out for the Korean salad. The pork was so salty it burned my mouth. My husband liked the turkey chipotle, but it was a cold sandwich, not warm, definitely not worth the $14 (maybe $6 at the most). Coffee, was alright but watery. We spent way too much money for what we actually got, and the workers didn’t really know what they were doing. We will not be back, and don’t recommend this place. Overpriced...

The gave me the wrong cake!!! It absolutely ruined my kids bday!! We ordered vanilla they decided we were having chocolate, a flavor of cake the birthday girl couldn’t even have!!! The owner “Jeff” promised to drop off the check himself personally in the mail! That was 2 weeks ago! And now the very professional owner is now blaming it on his bookkeeper!! Well Jeff $55 may not be much for you!!! But I don’t remember leaving the bakery without paying!!

I would like to give five stars to a place that has the BEST bear claws and so many other WONDERFUL baked goods that it's hard to mention them all. However, you have EARNED A ONE STAR RATING because I ordered a Yule Log cake for our Christmas Eve dinner dessert. It was a great looking cake until we sliced into the almost solid fudge frosting that seemed to permeate the entire cake with little cake to actually consume. Everyone took one bite and that was it. What a horrible cake! Did I say cake? Try SOLID FROSTING!!!! The Yule Log Christmas cake went into the garbage. Also known as the TRASH!! ( in retrospect I REALLY should have kept the cake and returned it.) Stupidly I tossed it. A CAKE should have CAKE in it. Not be 75% solid fudge frosting. I did not bring this to the bakery's attention. I am not looking for a refund. I just want people to know that was my experience. I will still shop at Upper Crust Bakery. I love fresh squeezed orange juice and lemonade. They have great food. I just don't think they are a cakery. AMATEURS !!! They did not meet my standard for a basic cake WHATSOEVER. And we love chocolate. Just not SOLID chocolate frosting cake!! 🤨👎

I ordered cupcakes for my daughter's birthday, and because I ordered over a dozen, I received a 10% discount, which is nice. It was $50 for 18 cupcakes. Unfortunately, the cupcakes were terribly dry, almost miniature in size, and the frosting tasted like it came out of a Pillsbury tub. They were a bad quality dessert and I don't know if I'll ever buy dessert from the Uppercrust again. It's a bit embarrassing because I talked about how good the uppercrust cakes are and then everyone was served seriously underwhelming cake.

Ordered a cake a week in advanced, sat down with the employee who took notes and completed the order form right in front of me. Went in to pick up the cake, which I paid for the week before for them to tell me the order was missing… So disappointing as this cake was customized for my moms birthday. We always come here and order, we did not expect this. They did give us a refund and a random cake free of charge, but it’s a shame that even ordering a week in advance an order can get lost. Great bakery, but don’t depend on orders being fulfilled!

Very disappointed with Upper Crust. When we ordered our wedding cake we asked for frosting flowers on top using fall colors and requested no orange. What we got was a joke. We received a cake with ONE ORANGE fondant flower and that is all. We had to completely redo it ourselves using real flowers. I don’t know how they could be ok with this cake representing their business.

Gave me food poisoning. I had the chile and a berry smoothie and immediately after I got a stomach ache and later that night I threw up multiple times after being nauseas for the whole day since eating it

I’m very disappointed, I called a week in advance to order macaroons for a custom cake I was making. It is Paris theme and I wanted very soft pink macaroons to go on top. They told me they could do that. The macaroons I picked up were bright pink. I told them this is not what I ordered and they told me there was nothing they could do because that is the lightest pink they have. I wish I would have known that before ordering from them. Never again

Extremely disappointing! The Snickerdoodle cookie was the WORST I've ever had, and by far the WORST cookie I've ever paid for (let alone the amount of $). I'd gotten a Lemon Sugar cookie as well, and although it was better, it was still horrible and inedible. Both were HARD, crumbly, and bland. I ordered a cake for a family get together, and now I'm dreading it being just as awful.
