The Foxham Chippenham Reviews
Had lunch with a small group. Food was excellent. Mostly fish menu. Good quality dishes with a few specials on the board. Staff were really friendly and helpful, great service. Would definitely recommend.
WOW 🤩 We absolutely loved this low-key restaurant tucked away in a small village. As a pescatarian it’s so wonderful to have so much choice of delicious seafood 🦞 The lobster and oysters were so fresh and tasty. The service was friendly and efficient, and there was a lovely atmosphere. We were only visiting but if we lived local we would come here all the time! Thanks again
We both said this was the best roast we have ever had! Incredible, highly recommend. We'd not been to the pub before and now feel like we've been missing a trick. My partner had the mixed meat roast and I had the veggie nut roast meal, both were amazing, we were really hungry and so ordered a side of cauliflower cheese and a side of extra roast potatoes but we'd been a bit over ambitious as we couldn't finish it all and no room for puddings which looked delicious when we saw them taken out to others. The atmosphere was relaxed but it far from scruffy, we sat at a table where we could see into the kitchen through the viewing window which made it interesting and we could see the chefs creating their masterpieces. The staff were all very friendly and helpful, the service was great. The pub and the toilets were really clean. The wine we had with the meal (Malbec) was smooth and complimented the meal well. I can't think of anything that could have been improved. Highly recommend.
This was booked from the other side of the world in New Zealand and what a hidden gem we stumbled upon in the English countryside!! This is hospitality at the very peak and was literally faultless. This was such a relaxing setting to both stay and eat at the excellent Seafood Restaurant. The.key ingredient however was the Owner, Freddie with his excellent hospitality and then his strongest asset was his staff. Mario had the rare polished talent of making all very welcome in the country pub, not just once but during our entire stay, while Roxsi was very engaging and had that "Je ne sait quoi" skill with her service skills and they worked so well as a team. We will be sure to stay again on a future trip!!
A fabulous place for both food or just a drink. Excellent service and attention to detail. Marco and his team gave us a warm welcome on our first visit to The Foxham where we enjoyed a lovely meal accompanied by our two dogs. It was such a friendly and welcoming place we returned each night for the remainder of our stay in Foxham. Great service, great food and a warm genuine welcome. What else do you need? Would not hesitate to recommended or visit again.
Didn't stay there, so can't comment on accommodation. We went for a meal in the evening, so the availability of some dishes was limited. But that probably means that the fish is fresh every day rather than frozen. Next time we'll have to do lunch instead. What was served was all excellent. Well worth a return visit. Service is impeccable. No 'are you enjoying yourself' intrusiveness, rather just close attentiveness when needed. A welcome change. This restaurant is seriously off the beaten track, but not difficult to find or get to. It's quite small, so book in advance.
Wonderful gastro pub, great room, fabulous bed and breakfast. Five Stsr poached eggs 🥚
We saw it was Burger Night so we thought we would go as haven’t been back for a while. Delicious burgers…my partner had beef and I had venison. It came with delicious homemade coleslaw and skinny fries. Really delicious meal. Although we were too full we couldn’t resist the dessert menu! My partner had rice pudding and jam which I had a taste of, we both agreed it was amazing. I had the pavlova which was equally delicious. The background music is perfect, the tables looked really lovely all laid up waiting for guests. Lovely friendly owner and waitress. A lovely evening - thank you.
Was an exceptional experience at the Foxham. I was so happy to find a seafood restaurant nearby after recently moving! And the quality of the seafood was crazy good. Some of the biggest mussels I’ve had. Extremely fresh King Prawns. Great service. Great atmosphere. Highly recommend!!!
Just wow. Everything about our experience here was just spot on and more. To find fresh fish this close to home was just such a treat. Made date night perfect. The staff are the most kindest caring people we have had the pleasure of meeting. Nothing was too much. They went way above and beyond for us and made us welcome. Beautiful presentation and stunning flavours. I have nothing but Praise for this restaurant. Well done guys see you soon 6 star review for you all
We had wanted to eat here for a while but never got round to it. So we rectified that by popping in for lunch on a Tuesday and I'm so glad we did. The choice of fish (and steaks) was excellent and the specials board offered even more choice. Front of house staff were lovely, friendly, knowledgeable and professional. But it's the cooking and food that seals the deal here. The Hake with mussels in a sobrasado sauce was exceptional. A real treat, perfectly cooked and delicious. Our starters and dessert were also super enjoyable, but it's the Hake I'll remember for a long time! The restaurant is at the rear of the property and the open kitchen is visible from most tables. It's comfortable, inviting and I would imagine in the evenings, quite intimate. I wouldn't say this is a cheap place to eat, but I would say that it was definitely worth every penny. If you like fresh, well cooked and presented fish, do try this place. We will definitely be going back.
Popped in for lunch with our one and four year old and had a great experience. Absolutely no hesitation getting us in, despite being a family with young children, and the food and service were both excellent. I had the monkfish cury and my wife had the short rib - both fantastic. Already booking our next visit, without the children this time!
Such a beautiful setting on a beautiful sunny day. We decided to stop here for a bite to eat because I used to go to this pub a long time ago. The staff were welcoming , the pub was bright and immaculate. We read the specials board and decided to sit out side. We ordered the steak and the fish of the day. The food has great presentation when it arrived at the table, it smelt delicious and tasted even better We did not stay at the pub so can't comment on the rooms You also pay for what you get Thank you for a lovely afternoon
I didn't stay in the rooms so cannot review. The seafood however.....amazing. Food and wine ordered for a party of 4. Oysters 2 ways ordered as a pre starter, amazing. Scallops to continue and ½ lobster thermistor for main. I paired this with an amazing Italian red.....2 bottles, so nice. A couple of baked cheesecakes and an Afogato for dessert. Overall an amazing experience with Freddy (Chef) Mario (front of house) and a lovely young Lady who's name I have now saddly forgotten....(I did ask, am old, forgive me!) We loved the menu so much we asked for a copy. Now proudly displayed and framed in our kitchen.
My mum and I love this pub! The food is to die for, the staff are so smiley and friendly, not forced but absolutely genuine. Mario is always pleased to see us, greets us at the door and chats like he's known us for years. That kind of thing goes a very long way with me....and means a lot to us. I highly recommend the Foxham if you want mouthwatering, delicious food and genuine, friendly staff who really do care, this is the place for you.
Top quality service, fantastic food, our server was attentive and took care to answer all our questions- our first time eating oysters! Lovely pint of peroni and the cocktails were perfect. Most of the usual suspects were available on the cocktail menu apart from margaritas but when I asked for one I was swiftly presented with a perfect example. We had oysters for a starter and the beetroot with the cream which was superb . For mains we shared the seafood platter and my partner and I both agreed it was fantastic. Best scallops I have ever had. We did not have room for dessert. Prior to writing this I have noticed a couple of reviews criticising portion sizes but I have to say from our experience the portions were more than adequate. Price wise it is a touch on the expensive side but the food is top quality and the venue is very clean and tidy, you definitely get what you pay for and we couldn't have asked for better treatment from the staff. Solid 5 stars and will definitely visit again
We live abroad and I have had a hankering for proper Sunday roasts this year. The best of the few I have had has been Hawksmoor in London, which rightly declares itself as one of the best in the country. An unplanned trip to the Foxham, however, served up an unexpected delight that rivals anything. We booked on the day, and I think we were actually very lucky to get a table. Our friends live locally and said it was a good pub but had not been on a Sunday. We were sat by the bar and the staff were very busy but friendly and efficient, and the restaurant manager was a lovely host. I nearly didn’t have a starter – our friends had demurred so I considered being polite – but I’m so glad I did as the potted crab was incredible. It was served warm and was like a crab souffle almost. Just awesome. Where we live pork is illegal so I am always tempted to have it when I can. My wife ordered it and, to be fair, it was perfect with a fantastic crispy skin. I’d been tempted by the beef wellington, sometimes a bit of a risk on a Sunday when the kitchen is busy and things could be sat for a while, but it was perfectly cooked. A generous serving too, certainly the best I’ve had in ages. The potatoes were similarly amazing - reminiscent of Kitty Fisher’s “best chips in London” where they slice potatoes thinly and do lots of incredible stuff to them, these were the roast potato version. I could have had double the amount. Somehow I managed room for a sticky toffee pudding, which was another triumph and a great end to a fantastic meal. Everything was spot on, there’s a decent range of beers and the wine list had some decent choices. If we lived where our friends do and not 3000 miles away we would be in all the time. I know I will come back as soon as I can because this was a perfect Sunday roast.
Got taken to the Foxham Inn on the evening of the 03/09 by my girlfriend for a birthday meal. Food was 5/5, and service would be even higher if it could be. Despite it being a quiet midweek evening with schools just restarting, the service wasn't awkward at all, and, in fact, the most professional I have ever experienced - I assume it was Freddie serving, purely due to his politeness and genuine care/passion/knowledge. You were not forgotten about at all, but still given space to enjoy your food that other restaurants don't give you enough of. Eating there was a real experience, with quality food and aforementioned exceptional service making it feel really special. Would go again for a special meal anytime. Highly recommended, and much improved from the previous ownership/style, which was good, but nothing in comparison! Good job! Edit: Forgot to mention - even got birthday plate of icecream with "Happy Birthday": written on in fancy-looking chocolate. Made it even better - they really seem to care about your experience!
Went for a birthday dinner today and everything was excellent, from the welcome, to the food which was outstanding and the service was attentive but unobtrusive. Highly recommended
Went to celebrate my partner’s birthday and it was lovely! Not too busy, intimate atmosphere in the bar. Friendly and enthusiastic waiter Amaro. The food was really good - mussels were soft, not chewy and flavourful. The lobster was really tasty, and the truffle mayo paired really well with the chips. I asked for a candle for our dessert and it came on a big plate, with a candle and “Happy birthday” on it which was so lovely! We had a starter each, main each and shared a dessert and it came to £110 which I thought was reasonable given the seafood was cooked well and tasty!
Absolutely incredible experience at The Foxham! From start to finish, everything was flawless. The food was nothing short of exceptional—beautifully presented, full of flavour, and truly exceeded all expectations. The staff were fabulous—warm, welcoming, and attentive without being overbearing. The cosy, rural location added to the charm, making it the perfect countryside escape. A true hidden gem in the Cotswolds. Can’t wait to return! Plus, it's dog friendly in the bar area, and they even made my husband a happy birthday desert, which was a lovely touch to finish off an already great evening. When I read some of the negative reviews that had been left by other dinners, i was totally shocked because i couldn't believe they were talking about the same place. I think people can be extremely harsh and over critical. I am so pleased i didn't allow these negative reviews to put us off. We would recommend it to others. 😀 🙌
Had two wonderful meals here today. Took my father who is notoriously difficult to please and he ate all of his two courses. I had fish for my starter and my main which I wouldn't normally do. Thoroughly enjoyed both courses! Service was excellent as well, a very nice waitress. Top it off they served South West Orchard cider which is lovely!
Beautiful setting/location, lovely decorated & set out inside. Customer service was very professional & brilliant. Unfortunately we didn’t stay for food as very fish orientated but would return for a nice drink in their front garden.
Visited for a birthday meal, the food was amazing. We started with the mussels and crab, which were amazing and the bread is some of the best I have ever tasted. Main course was a whole lobster and surf and turf, again amazing. Service could be slightly better but this would not put me off returning. Highly recommended
Spectacular food, my wife had the lobster and I had the porterhouse, the service from both waitresses was out of this world, could not recommend this place enough!! ❤️
We had our Sunday lunch in here today and it was possibly the best roast I've ever eaten. I had the calamari to start and the beef wellington for mains. It was insanely good, and the roast cubed potato were amazing. Definitely come back here when we visit next x
The Foxham is definetly worth a visit. The restaurant is incredible. There are only two rooms in the Foxham but they are cozy, comfy and essy to acces. The staff is amazing and really helpful! When coming back to wiltshire, we'll definetly stay there again! Btw. Breakfast is awesome! Everything was delicious!
Our friends found this little gem!! And wow we were impressed from the moment we stepped through the front door. We were greeted by friendly staff, who straight away were happy to get us a drink after our long day. We were staying in the two rooms the property has to offer and we had everything explained to us. We settled in to our rooms and very happy. A dinner reservation is a must here! The ambience of the restaurant was just perfect and the food....well OUTSTANDING!! How lovely it was to see the open kitchen and the service was excellent. Breakfast the following morning was just as good and set us up for the drive home. We would all definitely stay here again and highly recommend. Thank you for the fantastic stay :)
This is a really nice country pub with guest rooms and a restaurant. It's located in a very rural area and a very quiet area which really suits me. The hotel rooms are nice complete with bathroom, they are very well kept. Mobile signal in this area is a bit flakey but the hotel does have decent WiFi. Staff are very friendly and polite the room does get quite warm in the summer months and could do with air conditioning but otherwise a very enjoyable stay.
This review might take some reading, but i assure you, it's worth it.... my job was central Chippenham. i was coming for Port Talbot, my truck broke down just as i entered the M4, long story short, the wonderful young lady called Roxi (front of house) stayed up after i called her to make sure i was checked in. (note: i was well passed check in time because i had a dog and taxis would not take us... shout Todd.. the taxi driver who did) Breakfast was beautiful. thank you again Roxi who took my order the night before so i would have breakfast. 10/10 sorted myself out with a rental vehicle so all was good (also shout out breakfast team and maintenance team. came back after working and my dog and myself felt more than welcome. I was greeted by Mario (front of house) who was in the simplest words ... amazing. it was a very sunny day he was very busy but made everyone feel appreciated. asked me what time for dinner i gave him a time, then realised i had an international call and he was more than accommodating to change my reservation. i asked his recommendations for which wines and what where the specials were, both of which surpassed expectations so credit to the chefs. overall. staff : 11/10 management 11/10 Food: 11:10 Pet friendly 11:10 The Bed: probably the comfiest bed ive ever stayed in 20/10 I really could not recommend this place highly enough Yours Truely Id be happy for the staff to give out my name and number for references A man that works away for his living
Been to The Foxham for dinner twice and I cannot recommend it enough. The menu has a great range of starters and different types of fish for mains. The steak and lobster we had the first time there were amazing - best steak I’ve had!
Very nice pub and restaurant area. Great food and excellent service.
This is a review for the restaurant! We stopped on the way back from Bath and honestly we didn’t have any expectations. But then this stop turned out to be one of the best dining experiences! My partner and I were on a special weekend getaway so we went for their signature lobster and beef Wellington and we were not disappointed. 👏👏👏
Amazing food. Staff very friendly and polite. Definitely recommend
Gorgeous place, food was absolutely delicious and staff was so welcoming and friendly. Deserves more then a 5 star. The steak I had was cooked perfectly and my boyfriend had nothing bad to say about the haddock all praise to the chef. 🙏 x
My wife and I visited the the Foxham this evening. Staff were terrific, nothing was too much trouble. My wife had the Lobster thermidor and I had the beer battered Haddock, my wife said the lobster was lovely, I found the beer Battered Haddock was first class, batter was super crispy and the fish flaked apart, it was obvious that the fish was really fresh. It is expensive but justified by the quality of the food and the service. We will go again. It made for a lovely valentines evening. Thank you.
Small upmarket pub not cheap but the food is to die for plenty of fish dishes and what we had was full of flavour and very satisfying the staff were very friendly and courteous I would go again on special occasions it's not cheap but some of the best food money can buy
Absolutely fantastic food. The chef and hostess are fantastic and care so much about fresh local food. A quiet location with fantastic British sourced food.
Had a collection to make from down the road so broke the journey up with an overnight stay. Room was lovely, food was superb and the staff were freindly. Would definitely recommend.
The menu is outstanding..the chefs just get it and surpass each time. I have been now numerous, many times with young and oldies and they all love the food, the service and ambience. We just return time and time again. You have to try the calamari and/or the crab as a starter and then check out the specials menu. Their fish menu is outstanding, freshly delivered every day and they cater for all, if not your thing. Just enjoyed their Sunday lunch this weekend with beef wellington and all that came with it was cooked to perfection. Beautiful crisp potatoes, yorkshire pudding and then the gravy. All hot and cooked to perfection. Lovely outside eating area, covered, inside bar area and then a beautiful barn room for eating or an occasion. Just outstanding.
The team at Foxham are amazing! My best friend was celebrating her birthday there with family and while I am currently in Australia, I wanted to do something nice for her special day. Noticing the Foxham sell Gift Vouchers, I called them and they were able to organise this immediately over the phone. My friend had a wonderful night; she said the scallops were amazing and the service lovely. The team even celebrated her birthday with a special treat. Thank you to the team at Foxham for being so kind, flexible and understanding - especially when a broad Aussie accent calls them over the phone. While I couldn't be there, I am so appreciative of making this an amazing night to remember. Highly recommended, and I cannot wait to visit there personally the next time I am in the U.K.
Had returned from a long walk and were desperate for food and drink. After unsuccessfully trying other places in the nearby area, we serendipitously stumbled across this gem of a pub. It served an outstanding Sunday lunch, with impeccable service and very friendly staff. Cannot recommend this place enough!
Visited today for Christmas Eve, and all 4 of us had different amazing main meals and desserts. Food was hot, tasty, and arrived in a timely manner. Jugs of water were also available on the table.Service was excellent, staff very friendly, and accommodating. Atmosphere was festive and enjoyable. We will definitely be returning.
Only our second Sunday lunch at the Foxham and it was equally as fantastic as the first. Really good quality food, (lovely Beef Wellington today) with superb presentation, with a great choice on the menu. The staff are always friendly & professional, with the manager always making a special effort to be speak to the customers. This will definitely be our new local Sunday lunch venue. We may also try a Saturday evening for dinner as we can then stay over & try out their guest rooms upstairs. 100% recommended!
Amazing Sunday roast and great service. Will be coming again ASAP
A wonderful visit to the Foxham for a Mother's Day meal. Great service, quick and efficient. Friendly staff and probably the best Sunday roast we've ever had. Thank you.
Off the beaten track, this is a lovely, quaint pub in the village of Foxham. There are just two rooms, but they are clean, comfortable and well appointed. Food is excellent and recommend the fish and chips or the burger. Menu has quite a few fish options. There is also a specials board. Staff are very friendly and welcoming and service throughout our stay was very good.
The location and atmosphere are lovely. The staff were also very helpful and friendly. There were four of us and we all had different mains (lobster, crab, hake and fillet steak) and we unanimously agreed that this was one of the best meals we've had for some time. As another reviewer said, it probably doesn't matter what you choose, you'll thoroughly enjoy it regardless. Also for those that don't like fish, there are some delicious alternatives. We will definitely be back to celebrate special occasions. Whilst more pricy than a lot of places, it is definitely a case of you get what you pay for.
We didn't stay here so can't rate the rooms. However we did eat, we had a Sunday lunch here on Sunday 18th of August. It was lovely, service was good, food tasty and well presented. Special mention to the attention that was given to one of our party with a dairy and fruit intolerance. The wait staff were very helpful to us on this, much more than many other places we have eaten. The only thing I would question is if it's worth the amount we spent. The bill was £140 for 2 adults and 2 children.
I booked the foxam restaurant for Christmas Day lunch because it’s a beautiful restaurant with a lovely ambiance and would be a special place for us to enjoy the day. However we arrived on time to be told our table for four wasn’t ready and we would be seated in the bar area, which is chilly and dull. We proceeded to eat our meal through the constant arrival of numerous groups of guests who also had to wait in the small bar area with the constant draft from the entrance door being opened. Even the log burner wasn’t lit which would have given a bit of atmosphere. Sadly we felt like we had drawn the short straw and felt we were just having a bar meal in any old pub. I do feel they had overbooked themselves. Perhaps they should have offered those who had to sit in the bar a reduced rate. £119 per head , it would have been nice to be offered a welcome glass of bubbly on arrival after all it was Christmas Day.
We have eaten here 3 times. The food has always been amazing and the service brilliant. However the 3rd time my partner and I got violently ill from Sunday lunch. Mario has essentially shunned any responsibility every time I spoke to him. We loved this place, and sadly we won't be going back now it is becoming clear The Foxham is unwilling to accept the extreme vomitting and diarrhoea we experienced was from their kitchen. Very very disappointed at the response we received.
