This was a find as we were walking by about 3pm after visiting the biblioteque and market. It literally is a hole in the wall doorway to a house from 1908 that has been beautifuuly restored keeping it's rustic appearance. It's on several levels and lit by candles and beautiful incandescent amber lights. The food style is Mediterranean-inspired with unique dishes not found elsewhere. Seating is spread across various rooms with small and larger tables should you come with a group. Many dishes are served family style, so be sure to ask which ones those are. You'll enjoy your experience here whether on a date or with a group. Our spend between the two of us was 1200 MX, note we only had bottled water, split the short rib sandwich and donor the carrot dish and cucumber salad. We topped it off with a coffee and their version of lemon pie. Our waiter was Katerina and she was delightful and attentive.
This was a special journey of flavors from the very first moment. The staff is exceptionally kind and creates a wonderful atmosphere. We loved the interior design — it had such a pleasant vibe and made us feel completely at ease. Now to the food: it was a true explosion of flavors, and every dish felt unique with unexpected taste combinations. Absolutely amazing. Already the best meal of the entire year 2026 — I’m certain nothing will top this.
After few days in Mexico City we wanted some other food than Mexican. We decided to go to the taverna and we were pleasantly surprised. We came Saturday night, no reservations ( I know, what we were thinking) and the host suggested to sit at the bar. At this point we didn’t know we will get a dinner and a bartending flaring show :) , and the cocktails were delicious . the entire staff was extremely professional, and made sure we enjoy our time. The food was great as well. We went with the bartender’s recommendation and ordered lamb meatballs, dates with chorizo, short rib and shrimp. Every plate was beautifully presented and the waiters explained about each dish. For desert we had the most incredible labneh ice cream. This ice cream tasted like haven. Not too sweet. I definitely recommend not to skip the dessert. Highly recommended!
Taverna in Juárez, CDMX is an excellent place for anyone looking for authentic Mediterranean food in Mexico City. The restaurant is located on Calle General Prim, right in the Cuauhtémoc / Juárez area, and it has a very welcoming, relaxed atmosphere. The food quality is outstanding — fresh ingredients, well-balanced flavors, and dishes that feel genuinely Mediterranean rather than adapted. The pasta and shared plates were especially impressive, and everything arrived perfectly prepared and well presented. Service was professional, attentive, and friendly, without being rushed. The staff knows the menu well and gives good recommendations, which really improves the dining experience. The space itself is clean, comfortable, and ideal for both casual dinners and special occasions. If you’re searching on Google Maps for a great restaurant in Juárez CDMX, Taverna is a solid choice. I would definitely come back and recommend it to anyone looking for high-quality food and excellent service in central Mexico City.
Can't say enough food things about this place! Every dish was fantastic and the ambiance cannot be beat! The service too was top notch. We ordered the crispy mussels, kampachi tostada, smoked vegetables, suckling pig and labneh ice cream plus 2 cocktails and a cordial each. This was the best meal we had in Mexico City!
We came as a group of seven, and every single one of us left absolutely happy. The food, the atmosphere, and the service were all outstanding. We’ve already tried many places in Mexico City, but this one is truly exceptional. Special thanks to Linus - he was incredibly helpful and such a great host. Thank you for an amazing experience!
My wife and I have eaten at Taverna several times and loved it so much that we held our welcome dinner here for our wedding. Alejandro and the staff went all out to make it a night to remember. The food, service, architecture, and ambiance are unmatched. A must eat in CDMX. Thank you!
I had an amazing experience dining at this Mediterranean restaurant in Mexico City! The building itself, constructed in the early 1900s, is stunning and full of charm. The old-style design has been beautifully preserved, with candles everywhere creating a cozy and relaxing atmosphere. The décor is tasteful and warm, making the whole place feel incredibly inviting. The menu is small but carefully curated, offering delicious Mediterranean dishes packed with flavor. The cocktail selection is fantastic, every drink we tried was perfectly crafted and absolutely delicious. Overall, this restaurant is a perfect mix of history, ambiance, and incredible food. It’s the kind of spot where you can truly unwind and enjoy an intimate, cozy dining experience. Highly recommend!
We had an amazing night and Luis took such great care of us. I especially loved the tuna tostada, roasted carrots & labneh and the lamb. The lamb and those smoky potato chips 🤤 thank you for an incredible dining experience Taverna.
wow what a beautiful restaurant. every section of the restuarant is a slightly different vibe. the service was great, the food was amazing and the whole ambiance felt very pleasant and easy going.
Came here for lunch and everything was perfect! We did not know what to get so our server Onaqui recommended everything and it was so delicious! His recommendations were spot on especially the crispy mussels! atmosphere was so relaxing and the decor makes you feel like you stepped into another world, and that you’re not on the busy streets of Mexico City!
This was hands down the best food decision we made during our entire trip. The restaurant itself is beautiful, with a vibe that pulls you in the moment you walk through the door. There are so many gorgeous rooms and little corners that you kind of get lost in it in the best way. And the food. Every single dish we ordered was incredible — honestly, not a single miss. Everything was packed with flavor and beautifully put together. If (when) I come back to Mexico City, I’m planning at least three meals here. No joke. We went around midday and got a table without a problem, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it gets busy during peak hours. Just go. You won’t regret it.
Very cozy place with greate service. The waitress gave us amazing recommendations. Loved the veggies with parmesan cheese and the hunmus.
Great experience. Food and atmosphere was great and so was the service. The only downside - which was kinda big - they burn sage and other incense (which we typically like) was very overbearing. Would recommend going though
Everything about this place is excellent and top notch. With the dim lighting and sophisticatedly rustic ambience, I felt like one of the cool kids just being in this place! The food is creatively delicious, and they have a succinct menu that they execute with precision. Too much great food here to recommend something over something else, but trust me, you can almost close your eyes and point randomly and hit a home run! The service is fantastic, from the hostesses to the wait staff. Add this place to your list.
Amazing service, very beautiful ambience and all the food very well prepared. Possibly the best tostada I’ve ever had.
Very good dinner experience at Taverna, even so we had no reservations and the place was fully booked they got us a seat at the bar. The place is very unique & dark, lovely cocktails and the service was very attentive even so the girl was super busy but she did an awesome job (unfortunately I don’t recall her name). The food was innovative with different layers of flavour. All the dishes meant to be shared which is a lovely way to enjoy multiple dishes. Overall, I can definitely recommend this restaurant.
A great experience, the waiter was fantastic. Most waiters speak Spanish and English. The food was fantastic and full of flavor. The decoration of this restaurant is really nice (must visit after the sun sets). I would absolutely visit this restaurant again.
Came here with my wife during our CDMX trip. We loved the ambience and the food was terrific. We got the whole grilled fish, date stuff chorizo, heirloom tomato salad, and deep fried mussel. Would recommend for a great date night restaurant.
We had an unforgettable experience at Taverna for a special celebration dinner. From the moment we arrived, the ambiance felt warm, elegant, and perfect for a memorable night out. We ordered the steak, beef tartare, and red snapper, and every single dish exceeded expectations. The steak was cooked to perfection—juicy, flavorful, and expertly seasoned. The beef tartare was delicate and well-balanced, with just the right touch of acidity and freshness. And the red snapper—absolutely stunning. Beautifully plated, perfectly cooked, and full of flavor. Service was attentive and kind without being intrusive. The staff made us feel welcome and ensured everything went smoothly throughout the evening. If you’re looking for a place in CDMX for a romantic dinner, special occasion, or just to enjoy amazing food in a cozy setting, Taverna is a must-visit. We’ll definitely be back!
It’s rare that you go to a place an everything you taste is mindblowingly good. Everything from the appetizers to the cocktails and festers were just amazing here. But that’s just the start… the service, the atmosphere, and the location of this restaurant make it one of the absolute best spots in Mexico City. I’m a big fan of this city and have visited over 42 restaurants and cocktail bars in the city during a week long research trip. This place is by far one of the best the city has to offer. The decor and feel of this space is also fantastic. 1000% recommend to anyone visiting.
The place is great, very antique style. Food with a nice presentation and good taste. Great drinks (my favorite was Spicy Margarita). Sometimes there is a funny smell, I read in some place that the pipes are there since 1903. Maybe that’s why there are too many aromatic candles.
A surprising find! The ambiance is magical and so well constructed and the large pillar candles just give this place so much drama. All the food was well priced and the drinks were made well. Some standouts were the Dates stuffed with Chorizo and the Crispy Mussels for appetizers. I also enjoyed the Seafood Arroz Caldoso as it had a good amount of white wine cooked in and was perfect to share. The service was excellent and helpful too! Overall, made a great impression and would love to come back!
The food here is amazing! It was refreshing to do Mediterranean food during the middle of our trip to Mexico City & everything here was delightful. While the food and service are phenomenal, come here for the relaxing and rustic vibes. The restaurant is incredibly designed and it feels like you’re entering a whole new world when you walk in off the street. Add this to your list & definitely make a reservation in advance!
Nice courtyard and good food. They also have small hotel rooms should you need them for some reason
Big recommendation for a great evening out. From interior and ambiance, to delicious food and wine selection (plenty of natural ones from Mexico!), to friendly and welcoming staff - this place is a standout
Incredible - the service, the food and the atmosphere. I love love love the interior. The food was outstanding and excellent service. We stopped in for lunch and were impressed from the moment we entered. You need to know where you are going as you would not see it walking by. The hummus was incredible as were the sauces. The lamb meatballs were fantastic, the tomato tart as well. We didn't take photos of everything but the chicken was perfect- tender and perfectly seasoned.
My partner and I had an exceptional dining experience at Taverna, where the unique blend of Mexican and Mediterranean flavors truly shines. From the moment we arrived, the service was impeccable—attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable about the menu. Our server who admittedly so mentioned he doesn’t speak much ingles made a great effort we were able to communicate back in forth in ingles and espanol. He also made fantastic recommendations, and every dish we tried was a delightful fusion of bold, vibrant flavors. The drinks were equally impressive, perfectly crafted and refreshing. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, making it a perfect spot for both a casual meal and a special occasion. I highly recommend Taverna for anyone looking to enjoy a creative twist on traditional cuisines with top-notch service.
Super romantic old mansion with extensive candle lighting and great wooden and adobe walls features. The menu was Mediterranean oriented and delicious. We had a Baja California whole white fish hat was among best fish I’ve ever had! Salads were excellent with lots of citrus and brine profiles. Staff super friendly and easily a favorite for the list of great experiences for the evening.
Celebrated my birthday dinner here, and had the best service!! Everything ordered was delicious. Next time I’m in Mexico City, I will be returning!!
I have nothing bad to say about this, everything was excellent. The roasted carrots and picked fennel with jocoque as an appetizer were delicious. We share the same as between four people. The desert was Day of the Dead bread with marigold ice cream, and it was exceptional!
Taverna is a remarkable reimagined space and has a standout menu to match the ambiance. Service was excellent and menu items were exquisitely prepared. We particularly loved the fried mussel appetizers, the beets and mariscos con arroz. The bread pudding dessert like the venue - other worldly!
Had an absolutely great experience at Taverna, to celebrate my birthday. The aesthetic of the restaurant is beautiful and picture worthy. It’s one of those places to go celebrate a special occasion or bring someone out on a date. When seated we were greeted by our amazing and highly attentive server, Alexander, who ended up confirming a few things we had in mind to order plus some. For appetizers we originally were thinking of only getting the cheese board with honey and the meatballs but he highly recommended we add the stuffed dates with chorizo. We’re a group that loves cheese so we loved all of the options on the board, meatballs were so juicy and tender that we were just in awe and the recommended stuffed dates which ended up being the highlight for the appetizers in my opinion. We loved Alexander’s recommendation so much that we asked his suggestion for entrees and surely went for it. His recommendations were the heirloom tomato salad with burrata, the grilled octopus with the fried potatoes and the feast fish with the broken potatoes and citrus salad. The heirloom tomato salad and the grilled octopus were great but not as great at the feast fish the fish was so tasty and flavorful my mouth waters as I think of it right now. Alexander also recommended we pair a bottle of white wine with our meal which I can’t recall which one it was but it was an amazing paring. Overall, the food and drinks at Taverna were amazing and I can’t really complain about it but to see and hear Alexander’s passion for the food at Taverna was incredible to see. Looking at him work and seeing how dedicated and attentive he was, not only with our party but with the other parties in the room was also inspiring to see. Big ups to him!! He really made us feel like we were dining at very exclusive and upscale restaurant.
Undoubtedly the most gorgeous eatery in all of CDMX. Secluded, fragrant and refreshing. The massive fig tree protects the courtyard from the sun while at night is illuminated by candlelight for the most romantic scene.
Out of this world unique flavors and the attention to detail with the service is incredible!! Hard to pick a spot in Mexico City with all the options but this has absolutely made my top 3 list!!! The chefs are Superior! 👌🏻
Loved it so much the first time we came back the next week! Katerina was our server the first time: she gave us spectacular advice and was a delight to chat with throughout the night. She made the evening amazing! Her food recommendations were perfect and we left so full and so happy. Balam was our server the next night and he was also lovely and attentive. Would highly recommend to anyone looking for the best of everything.
We dined at Taverna on our last night in CDMX and it was truly the best meal we had while in the city! We have dined at other fine dining establishments this week, even those with a Michelin Star. This restaurant is way more deserving. The atmosphere, service and food were impeccable. The shrimp and whole fish were winners tonight, but everything we ate was delicious! 10/10. Thank you for an amazing meal.
This place is absolutely amazing. SUCH a vibe. Exactly what you want from Mexico City - a glorious old building, great food, great drinks, great service. We had a 16 person party and got incredible service for hours. This is my second trip to CDMX and this is easily my favorite dinner spot. Cannot recommend it highly enough.
One of our favorite spots to visit in Mexico City. The food was incredible (to note ~ whole fish, hummus, and chorizo dates). All of the servers extend their expertise and go beyond to ensure you are happy and taken care of. The ambiance, architecture, and music make it easy to settle in for a for a special experience.
We came with a rowdy group of eight who only spoke English, which can sometimes make it difficult for staff to feel comfortable showcasing their passions and their establishment in a different language. This place clearly understands that hospitality is about the guests, and they accommodated us accordingly. In particular, Esteban answered all our questions, and when he didn’t know something, he took the time to find out. I don’t like feeling as though I’m inconveniencing a server, and Esteban’s presence felt like he was naturally part of our party—always attentive but never imposing. They put a lot of care into their dishes. There were little touches I really appreciated, like the chepiche on the fish appetizer. It was cool to taste the local flavors of Oaxaca. They also served duck with an apple–anise sauce that had a surprisingly creamy, almost lactic quality. And the dates are as good as it gets if you enjoy a sweet-and-savory treat. We also split an entire fish that was served with an orange onion spiced salad/sauce that was very enjoyable and for me a very unique presentation. Highly recommend.
Good little Greek spot with tasty food — we got the fish, and it was fresh, flavorful, and perfectly cooked. Every dish we saw looked amazing, and the portions were generous. The dinner lights and gorgeous decorations created such a warm and inviting atmosphere, making it a perfect spot for a relaxed meal. Even though there was a line, it moved quickly (about 10 minutes), and the staff were friendly and attentive. Overall, a fantastic dining experience — would definitely come back and recommend to anyone looking for great Greek food!
The place is absolutely spectacular — it’s really beautiful. The food is good, but not quite as impressive as what you pay for. It’s tasty, just not worth the price. But the place itself gets all the points.
Lovely lunch here. It was quiet but the food was excellent and interesting. We asked for the menu back to order more.
I loved the atmosphere. It was moody, rustic, and felt like outdoor dining but I’m pretty sure we were indoors. It’s also sectioned off into multiple areas and levels, so it feels intimate, even though the restaurant was quite large. The drinks and food were good, but the environment was better.
Love this place for the ambiance. The space is beautiful and the food is great. We had a reservation but our table was not ready for 1h so we waited by the bar. They gave us complimentary drinks so all was forgiven.
Obviously very beautiful restaurant. Some dishes better than others - skip the beef tartare it's a bit strange but the stuffed dates were phenomenal. I'd come back for the seasonal veggies alone. the pig was delicious as well as the lamb. best bread pudding i've ever had. Would ball out a little less next time as some things weren't really worth it. Kinda felt like the server was rushing us a bit and one entree came out quite a bit before the other entree and you'd think when you're spending this much $ they'd be pacing it out a little better. really beautiful place but service isn't really worth the price.
People speak so highly of this place and in a few regards it’s warranted but it’s certainly not the best food around. Far far from it. Waitstaff was mostly friendly but ignorant, thinking that we couldn’t speak Spanish and only looking at and speaking to those that could speak Spanish. The irony is that we could both speak Spanish. This created an awkward and unprofessional vibe. They need more training on this matter. The food was decent at best. Short rib sandwich was dry and flavorless…crumbled in the bread. The vegetable salad was great with good flavor but too salty. Chorizo and dates were good but nothing ‘wow’. The atmosphere is the best thing about this place. Beautiful ambiance. I just that this place lived up to all the hype. It definitely does not. It has a veneer of excellent but it’s only a veneer.
The service at this restaurant is absolutely top-notch — the staff is super attentive and makes you feel taken care of from the moment you walk in. The vibe is definitely memorable, very, very vintage. But when it comes to the food, things aren’t nearly as impressive. Maybe Mediterranean cuisine in Mexico is a tricky mix, but we actually had to send one of the dishes back because it didn’t match the restaurant’s level or its prices. Also, the clay dishes are a nice touch, but when they’re chipped, I’d probably stop giving them to guests. Overall, it was a mixed experience: great service and atmosphere, but mediocre food. I’d give it a 3 out of 5.
The place is very interesting, the atmosphere is great. But I have many questions for the restaurant staff. For an important dinner, I arrived at the restaurant a few days in advance to select a specific table with a beautiful view for the occasion. I was promised that this particular table would be available. However, when we arrived for dinner, our table was occupied by another group. The hostess explained that the ladies had arrived earlier and simply hadn't vacated the table in time. How is this possible in a restaurant of such a supposedly high standard? They offered us another, smaller table with a different view, which really upset me. The dinner was already ruined by this incident; it's disrespectful to the guests. Advice for the restaurant: if you have a reservation for a specific table, you need to warn guests about the time limit, and that's it! The dishes are overpriced, the portions are small. The only dishes I liked were the burrata salad and the lemon cake.
Beautiful spot with a great vibe — perfect for a date or drinks with friends. The cocktails were decent and service was fine, but the food really missed the mark. Definitely more style than substance here. Come for the atmosphere, not the menu. Food was really terrible.
