Incredible place, truly a highlight of my visit to Oaxaca. Wonderful food homemade but a charming grandma, you can observe the whole process. The place is not the easiest to find, it's located on the stairs leading down from the street. Highly recommended, a unique and memorable experience!

One of my favorite meals I had in Oaxaca. The place is a bit hidden. Use google maps to find the location (I walked up panaromica). When it says arrived, walk about 10 more steps and there are stairs to the left. Take the stairs down and after the first flight the place is there. Had the pleasure of speaking to Gloria and met her 2 daughters. Wonderful food and nicest people!! Get an agua Fresca.

Absolutely the best experience & food I had while traveling in Oaxaca. Doña Gloria was so sweet and welcoming, and she makes the food right in front of you. Seeing the process of her making tortillas is also such a precious moment. The food is top notch; feels so simple yet so flavorful! I fell in love with memelas after this place, tried other spots but Doña Gloria's was the best and had to come back for a second time. The champurrado (chocolate atole) was also by far the best I've tried! This is a must visit place for an authentic Oaxacan cuisine and experience. If you are coming from Centro, it is around 15-20 minutes walk which is totally worth it as you experience walking through the safe and non-touristy residential areas. You can also visit El Mirador on the way for amazing views.

Doña Gloria is the sweetest lady, great service and even better food! The memelas were super tasty. Watching her make them was a great experience. The place might be a bit tricky to find, you gotta go down a set of stairs were you see a bunch wood.

This is the best memelas I've had in Oaxaca. Plus, Doña Gloria and Teresa are some of the nicest people I've ever met. Even if there was a language barrier, they were so kind, patient and friendly. This place is worth the visit. I keep coming back for the huevos al comal. Aside from memelas, they also have quesadillas, atole, champorado and agua fresca with many different flavors (mango, pineapple, guava, cucumber, hibiscus and others). The salsas were also delicious. The prices are very cheap but everything is high quality. Please visit them! I can't recommend them enough.

Highly recommend! Sweetest ladies ever. We ordered the chorizo quesadilla, memelita, Huevos de comal, and mango agua Fresca. Everything was delicious, and had a great experience! It’s a bit difficult to find since it’s not directly on the street. Go down the stairs and you should see them after the first flight of steps.

Doña Glo’s cosy kitchen is fuelled not only by wood but also love and laughter. Her daughters Teresa y Clara were extremely accommodating, and of course Gloria’s Memelas and Quesadillas cooked on the handmade clay oven were the best we’ve had in Mexico! Highly recommended.

Delicious and amazing Memelitas. Everything she makes is amazing. Coming here was one of the highlights of our trip to Oaxaca and probably my favorite Oaxacan restaurant. Such an awesome atmosphere, experience, and authentic Oaxacan food.

This place is an all time experience you will not want to miss, along with some excellent spicing and interesting preparation. The cook is the third generation to prepare food at the open fire in this home. There are two more generations in line behind her. There are really no signs to guide you here, but press on and follow the smokey hint in the air through the partially intimidating door. It willlead to a charmingly organized kithen managed by a spritely septagenarian chef. Seat yourself at the table on one of 5 box chairs (you will be facing the stove) and observe all that happens next. To your left there will be bunches of fresh herbs, some you may have not met before, but go ahead and add some to your meal if you are inclined. No kidding, this ranks right up there with eating goats in the Somali dessert...it is either the first or second most favorite meal of my life. DON'T TURN BACK, you will miss a forever life experience and a great memelita if that is what you order.

The best, most flavourful memelas and quesadillas I’ve ever had. I nearly cried with happiness. The experience also adds to it. The mysterious (and peaceful) location, the smoke from the fire softly drifting up through sunbeams, Doña Gloria’s sweet energy, and watching everything be expertly made from scratch in front of you. I didn’t know memelas could be THAT delicious. Fortunately, she let us know, they are open all day, 365 days a year. Thanks to the other reviewers or we would never have stumbled upon this hidden gem.

High quality and flavorful home cooking. Worth a special trip across town. The pictures in other reviews make the space look small, but Doña Gloria said she could accommodate a group. The restaurant isn't clearly marked and I almost missed it. If you're walking up the stairs from Division Oriente it's at the top of the stairs on the right. The only sign outside says "Se venden cubrebocas".

Excellent and extremely authentic place for mamelas and atoles. Run by multi-generational family of women who are so kind and welcoming. Lovely experience. If you are sensitive to woodsmoke or a severe asthmatic you should not go here as there is open-flame.
