Bamboo Bistro in Corona del Mar has been on my list for about six months. As someone who genuinely loves both Thai and Vietnamese food, I had heard great things and finally had the perfect excuse to go when a friend came to town. From the moment we walked in, the staff was incredibly friendly and welcoming. The restaurant was completely full, but they quoted us 15 minutes and had us seated in under 10. The space itself is clean, comfortable, and larger than it looks from the outside. We ended up in a cozy corner booth and it was perfect. The service was great and the food absolutely delivered. Prices felt very fair for the quality and portions. We ordered the papaya salad with prawns, crispy noodles with beef, and Thai chicken. The crispy noodles were unreal. They came out looking like nothing I’d ever seen before and were nearly impossible to stop eating. Somewhere along the way, this is exactly why I love exploring the village. Working in Corona del Mar means getting to know the local spots that make this place special, not just the homes, but the restaurants, the people, and the community behind them. Parking can be a little tricky, but if you’re familiar with the village and know how to work the side streets, it usually takes five minutes or less to find something nearby. All in all, Bamboo Bistro lived up to the hype. Delicious food, friendly staff, and a spot I’ll definitely be coming back to. If you’re in the area and love Thai or Vietnamese food, this one belongs on your list.
Excellent food in a casual but refined environment. Menu is a bit pan-Asian and quite pricey, but the quality of every dish was excellent. Highly Recommend the brodard grilled pork fresh spring rolls, very fresh chicken salad, and the Hanoi style smoked pork noodles. The shrimp coconut soup and the eggplant tofu clay pot were also good.
Bamboo Bistro in Corona Del Mar keeps getting it right. I had the steamed chicken salad with the dressing, shallots, and peanuts on the side, and it was exactly what I wanted, crisp veggies, tender chicken, and that bright cilantro-lime on the side that keeps it fresh and light. It tastes clean and satisfying, the kind of salad that feels like a full meal without weighing you down. My mom ordered the Tom Yum, the hot and sour soup with mushrooms, broccoli, and chicken, and she loved it. We added rice noodles on the side, and I appreciate that you can opt for shirataki noodles if you want to keep things even lower calorie. The broth had that perfect tang and heat, nothing harsh, just balanced. Service is attentive and kind, the refreshed vibe and expanded space look great, and having the option to sit outside is a big win for our sunny CDM days. Perfect price point, perfect location, consistently delicious. I’d come back any day.
Been coming here for years! The quality is always consistent and generous. Sometimes we dine in however most of the time we pickup as it gets busy! The entrees are great as well as their generous lunch special! Parking can be hectic during dinner times especially weekends!
The place is pretty spacious with a nice, slightly fancy, and clean vibe. Lots of staff and good service. Prices aren’t too bad either. I can’t remember the name of this roll, but it was super tasty! If you come here, don’t miss it. It’s seriously good!
We stopped by late afternoon for a quick lunch and were not disappointed. The service was friendly and fast, we order Nem-Nuong Rolls (their signature appetizer), Bo Bia Rolls, and Bun Ca. All in all, the meal was fantastic.
Arrived Friday for an early dinner to avoid the crowds. Got there about 530pm and it started to fill up fast. Service was very prompt and friendly. Loved the food, not too salty or greasy. Coconut Shrimp spring rolls were tasty and the Chicken Pad Thai had the familiar flavors which was enjoyable. Also had a small Won Ton Soup and the broth hit all the right notes, delicate and subtle. My wife really liked our side order of egg plant which was cooked nicely and came with a traditional egg roll sauce.
This restaurant is amazing! I left very happy and very full. The meals are a really decent size and the service was great. Our server Ethan was very helpful and helped me in fulfilling my allergy request for gluten free. The food was full of flavour! I have just returned from Vietnam myself and this was the best Vietnamese meal I have ever had. I highly recommended and look forward to returning in the near future. Shout out to our server Ethan, wonderful service and very attentive and helpful.
Bit of a long wait, but well worth it! Good sized portions. Everything was really tasty! We had the chicken lettuce wraps, beef curry, house special clay pot, and the seafood bird nest. Everything was well seasoned and fresh
This is a cute little restaurant near Corona Del Mar beach. The ambience is very cosy and the service is great! There were good vegan options on the menu. We had spring rolls with peanut dip, Noodle soup and Pad Thai noodles. The Pad Thai noodles were a bit oily but tasty and the other two dishes were very fresh and tasty. I would definitely recommend this place for a delicious meal with a relaxed ambience.
Absolutely the best Vietnamese food we have had! We had ordered the chicken coconut soup with vermicelli, Chicken and bamboo shoot noodle soup, and sizzling fish dish along with the Thai tea. This is the first time I had a straw made out of bamboo which is much better than the paper straws. The food was delicious and tasty. Great service. Parking is on the street. Great variety in menu.
Moderately priced but hey Corona Del Mar leases I'm sure. Still prices were very reasonable. Had a friend that did deliveries locally and she noticed this location was popular. We went to have a slightly later lunch there for fun. Wow! Were we pleasantly surprised. This is Viet Cafe/Grill style, not a Pho house. Although they have some Pho style soup selections. For a later lunch around 2pm they had 80/90% covers filled so busy place for sit down service. Still the turn over for wait was very short. My friend had a lovely Thai Iced Tea, I had a house lager beer. We started with a simple beef satay. Nice marinade and the peanut sauce was delightful. Was pleased it wasn't chewy or over cooked. They had shrimp spring roll variety and crab (?) egg roll (?) also. The specials looked very tasty too, I recommend checking them. For entre, she had chicken/shrimp pad thai, they let her combo the proteins. Flavors were spot on for the Pad Thai. I had their specialty Shaken Beef. I've had it once before in Garden Grove. Basically trimmed fillet mignon, done with garlic, mushrooms and bell peppers. Similar to a Chinese pepper beef Szechuan style. However, the meat is cubed and better quality for Shaken Beef. I'd say the sauce is more rich too, very beefy and tangy dark sauce. Portions were spot on. For service they were busy but helpful. No reservation, walk-in. I liked the darker ambiance inside (posted pics). The macaroons and champagne in the front case looked like a tasty desert for a fancy occasion. Interesting the his/hers restroom is outside and common to the business center. Just ask for the key at the front central desk. To find I suggest be northbound on PCH, hard right turn just before the Chevron and before Mac Arthur. Restaurant is ahead on the corner on the right. Some street parking or more parking after a right turn in the neighborhood. Typical parking for the area is a bit tight, plan for a possible short walk. Don't park at Chevron, possible tow. Done with Thai food? Now go south on PCH, right at Goldenrod and follow to the beach for a pleasing sunset at the lookout. Ah, the charm of the crown of the sea. Good appetite fellow foodies :D
Amongst a sea of asian dining establishments, Bamboo Bistro serves up great Vietnamese options with a touch of class. Their recent expansion opened up additional seating optiok ns, but be prepared for a minor wait because this place is hoppin with loyal diners. Great curries, spicey noodles, and apps.
Bamboo Bistro in Newport Beach is a culinary gem with a remarkable history. Founded by Chau Dang Haller, whose family owned the famous Hoa Binh French boulangeries in Nha Trang, Vietnam, this restaurant is a testament to her culinary expertise and passion for healthy dining. As a licensed dietician, Chau has infused her menus with nutritious options that appeal to Newport Beach's health-conscious beachgoers. I recently had the pleasure of trying their Roasted Duck Spring Rolls ($8), and they exceeded all expectations. Tender chunks of savory duck with crispy skin nestled amidst fluffy vermicelli noodles, fresh lettuce, cucumber, and asparagus, all wrapped in pliable rice paper. The presentation and taste were outstanding. Two rolls, sliced in half, were simply not enough to satisfy my craving for more. While Bamboo Bistro offers a variety of spring rolls, including the renowned Ahi Spring Roll ($9), and other delightful options like Roasted Pork Spring Rolls and Grilled Shrimp Spring Rolls, I found the Vegetarian Spring Rolls ($5) to be less exciting in comparison. They contained tofu, noodles, lettuce, and carrots, but they lacked the bold flavors of the other offerings. It's clear that Bamboo Bistro caters to a broader audience, with a menu that draws inspiration from mainstream Asian dishes. While there are nods to Vietnamese cuisine with items like pho and banh xeo, the overall menu reflects a fusion of flavors that appeals to a diverse clientele. Despite this departure from traditional Vietnamese offerings, the quality and creativity of Bamboo Bistro's dishes make it a must-visit restaurant in Newport Beach. Chau Dang Haller's culinary heritage shines through in every bite, making this restaurant a delightful culinary destination for both locals and visitors. The restaurant is easily get to which is located right on PCH next to Fashion Island Shopping mall. There are plenty of parkings on the street and underground garage.
Cute spot that has very fast service and an extensive menu. The food is good and the portions are larger. I really enjoyed the dishes here. It’s a bit of fusion between cuisines as well as traditional and Americanized dishes. Really it’s a good way to satisfy a number of people. I would recommend. There is a lot of curbside parking around the area.
Stopped by on my daughter recommendation. Ordered for two soups and eqq rolls. I was told to wait but the manager offered me jasmine tea. Friendly staff and kitchen smell very good. I saw the dishes and I want to stay but I had to take the food home. Be back. Exceptional experience.
First time here and we really liked it. The decor inside is very traditional and ads to the experience of eating vietnamese food. I got the "Shaken beef" plate and it was amazingly tender. the only issue I had was with their Iced tea. it was Jasmin tea which is super dry and very flowery tasting. Everything else was great and we will definitely be coming back. I highly recommend you go outside your traditional eateries and give this place a try.
The food is phenomenal! The chicken lettuce wraps are off the chart, Ahi spring rolls kill it and you’d be AMAZED at how good the Tom Kha soup with chicken is. Really good sized portions and worth every penny!
I've been coming here for nearly 20 years. Normally, chicken pho is a no-no for me but when I came here, it immediately became my favorite spot for chicken pho. It's the only place where I've been compelled to drink all of the broth when I was done. They also have the signature Brodard's spring rolls here, which are the best spring rolls period.
We went during lunchtime and got seated quickly. Ordered the Pad See Ew with beef, the sauce was very rich and coated the meat and noodles well. I do wish the noodles were a bit better, they did stick together a bit and weren't the best- but overall, the sauce, variety of vegetables, and tasty beef resulted in a good dish that I'd get again.
The curry dishes are delicious!! We ordered the eggplant spring roll, but didn't realize that it takes awhile to prepare. Our main dishes came out ahead of the spring roll. We'll be back to try more. Be aware that the restrooms are not in the restaurant. They're a couple doors down in the main complex.
Great experience. I've been meaning to go here for years and finally did. Great service, ambience and food. Everything was delicious. Easy parking. Nice menu. We had the coconut shrimp rolls to start and then the garlic chicken noodles and beef with green beans. So delicious!
Really happy to have found this place while poking along up the coast. Excellent food, perfectly spiced, perfectly cooked. Will definitely be stopping here more often!!
I really do enjoy this location. It's east to just hop off the PCH and get dinner to go, or to sit out on their patio on a nice day and appreciate the day while you enjoy your meal. Their menu is fantastic and they are a friendly staff with great service. I recommend eating here whether your by yourself, on a date, or taking your family to dinner. The menu is accommodating to everyone.
Excellent variety of menu items, very reasonable prices, and great service. Nice spot for lunch, dinner, or date night.
We tried this restaurant twice and were not disappointed. The take out food was delicious and the portions were okay. The better experience was when we dinned in: tasteful food, good selection, nice portions and excellent service. The prices are a bit on the upper side.
My now husband and I hosted a wedding rehearsal and welcome dinner in Bamboo Bistro's private dining room upstairs from the main restaurant for about 50 guests. The owner Chau and her team worked so hard to make sure that all the guests were attended to and felt welcome, and ensured that there was WAY more food to go around. :) (my parents and relatives happily took what seemed like endless leftovers back to the hotel for the next day's breakfast and lunch). We're so grateful that we found this restaurant; everyone kept talking about how amazing the food, service, ambience and space was, and the quality of the wine. I can't even count how many people raved about the food and how fresh and tasty it was; we even had some people who had never tasted Vietnamese food come, but quickly became converts! We had many guests come from overseas, and now that they are back home, they still can't stop raving about the welcome dinner here!! We knew we wanted something Vietnamese for our welcome dinner since there would be no Vietnamese food unfortunately at our wedding reception the day after, and we wanted it to be within 30 min. driving distance of San Clemente, where our wedding was. Westminster and Garden Grove, where most of the great Vietnamese restaurants are, would be way too far away, and we just happened to come across this place since it's a sister restaurant of Brodard Chateau. The restaurant offers a number of multi-course banquet style menus, and all are incredible value for both the quantity and quality of the food. In fact, I think we chose the second cheapest option, but you'd never guess this based on the variety of dishes and proteins and how good the food was! The most popular dishes by far that were served were the roasted duck salad (AMAZING!!), seafood claypot, the shaking beef with garlic noodles, and the mango sticky rice. The tastes are authentic but with modern twists, which even pleased my Vietnamese mother, who is extremely skeptical of anything that is "modern" and not exactly like what she grew up eating in Vietnam. Setting up the private dinner arrangements and a few customizations was so smooth and seamless; Chau was quick to respond via email and incredibly apologetic (unnecessarily so) when she responded even just a day or two later). The private dining room space is really beautiful - modern, but with lots of traditional Vietnamese touches and paintings/decorations. It felt so comfortable, cozy, and refined without trying too hard. It's like a bigger version of the main restaurant downstairs. The service was super attentive and someone was always quick to come to my side whenever I needed even the slightest thing. I am really in love with Bamboo Bistro, the owner Chau, their menu and entire staff, and my husband and I are so grateful to have found them and had our welcome dinner there. When we are back in the area, we'd happily come back to eat here again and would recommend it without reservation for any meal or private dinner party.
Shrimp spring rolls. Chicken lettuce wraps. Pad thai and more - its all incredible here! This place is famous for a reason, they are incredibly consistent in what they do, these guys don’t have “bad days” like other restaurants. The food and service are perfect every single time, if you want a no-chance-at-failure experience, definitely come by. Take out or dine in, its all worth it!
The Phuket noodle soup is the most mouth watering and flavorful seafood dish I have ever tried in my life. Every time I come here, that is what I get. There is no seafood soup as tantalizing as this. The positives are that there is extensive parking in the street and around the restaurant, and this serves an amazing pan-Asian food. The other negative is that the restroom is outside of the restaurant. You actually have to walk around to get to it on the outside. Also, unless you get reservations at night, you have to wait. All in all, this is a fabulous gem of a place to dine out. The prices may be a little higher than usual for Asian cuisines, but we are talking about Corona Del Mar in the nicest part of Newport Beach.
The food slaps. Best restaurant in all of Newport. We dined here twice already, all of the food from spring rolls to duck to salads to crab to beef to garlic noodles are damn good. A true chef 👨🍳
We stopped here during the week for a quick lunch They had us in and out and well under an hour we had plenty of time to get back to the office. There food whether you order out and have it delivered or go to the restaurant It's absolutely fantastic. to be honest I can't pick a favorite item off of their menu It's all delicious.
The best and most likely the only Vietnamese restaurant in Newport. The ground beef, chicken, and seafood egg rolls are a must try. Parking is in the back. They did a great job on the remodel.
The food is wonderful along with the fast and friendly service. They offer beer, wine, sake hot or cold. I do recommend making a reservations as they are very popular. 😉
Incredible chicken curry!!! The best. No nasty green peppers or onions to fill the plate. Incredible rice and pad Thai very good as well!! Chicken dumplings fresh and tasty!!! Recommend the jasmine tea!
Love this place! A truly delicious restaurant serving the best duck salad and fried chicken. I always look forward to eating here when I’m in the OC. Highly recommend and the service is always on point!!
The pho here is immaculate, thought it is a little pricy compared to a small town Vietnamese restaurant, it totally makes up for it with the flavor! The chicken curry as well is absolutely delicious. Best yellow curry I've had yet!!!! Highly recommend this place for anyone who's trying to get a good bite that isn't avocado toast in the area.
Anytime we're in town this is owr number one food destination. Get the shaken beef and spring rolls, they're perfectly made and delicious.
GREAT Asian food! Traditional Vietnamese and Asian dishes cooked to perfection, and served in a welcoming and upscale space with warmth and ambiance. Many patrons are repeat customers with appreciation for the consistent high quality of food and outstanding service. Best Asian food and fair pricing in Newport Beach - Corona del Mar area. Open for lunch and dinner, with a fashionable small bar for counter diners and casual drinks.
Yum Yum Yum! Love the chicken satay, spring rolls and vermicelli bowls! Fresh, delicious and so filling!
Always a hit for our family and friends. We go there for business dinners too. Food and drinks and dessert is 5+ stars!
This is hands-down, one of my favorite restaurants in the world from the food to the service. I couldn’t think of any other place I’d want to eat if I had to choose one restaurant for the rest of my life. The owner is the sweetest person and care so much about her food that she creates with so much love everything on the menu is delicious but I recommendation for the crêpes and definitely duck spring rolls. Any of the spring rolls are delicious but if you like duck spring rolls with the orange sauces so good For dessert the putting pastry is divine. if you don’t want the crêpe, go ahead and try the Seabass you won’t be sorry. Easiest hands down 5star review. Spring rolls are the best I’ve ever had. I have eaten spring rolls all over. They’re so fresh. I can’t get enough of them.
Bamboo Bistro is a hidden gem nestled in the heart of the Newport Beach , offering an unforgettable journey through Thai cuisine. As soon as you step in, you're transported to a realm of elegance, with bamboo accents and delicate Thai ornaments adorning the walls. The ambiance sets the stage for what's to come – a culinary adventure bursting with uncompromising flavors. Each dish at Bamboo Bistro is a masterpiece, meticulously crafted to showcase the authentic essence of Thai cuisine. From the Garlic Noodles to the aromatic embrace of Shaken Beef , every bite tells a story of tradition and passion. The chefs here have mastered the art of balance, infusing each dish with the perfect harmony of sweet, sour, spicy, and savory notes. But it's not just about the food; Bamboo Bistro pays equal attention to the presentation and ambiance. The restaurant's decor, with its subtle lighting and soothing music, sets the mood for an intimate dining experience that lingers in your memory long after the last bite. In essence, Bamboo Bistro is more than just a restaurant – it's a culinary sanctuary where every dish is a work of art, and every moment is an indulgence in the vibrant flavors of Thailand.
Bamboo is one of those spots you can always count on. I ordered the pho and the broth was really flavorful without being too heavy, and the portions were solid. Everything came out hot and tasted fresh. Service was friendly and the vibe was chill. Easy place to grab a good meal and I’ll definitely be back.
Food was not bad. Service was ok. The host was a little rude.
It’s a little gem in the area. The food is delicious and vibe is friendly but a bit noisy during lunch. They have two dining section and we are seated on the newly remodeled area which I like it a lot. It’s a nice place for friend gathering. Parking is free and easy. There is street parking and underground parking in the same building which save time to find a parking space.
The food was delicious!!!!! The vegetable coconut soup was so good and creamy, with fresh crunchy vegetables. I wasn’t a fan of this version of Pad thai since I’ve had many east coast versions but it was still very tasty! The service was mehh but the quality of food is worth for the price.
The place is really very interesting, not for nothing I was constantly called here. A curious interpretation of Vietnamese cuisine. They don't go overboard with the fish sauce, but the shrimp salad seemed a bit dry to me. Yes, the chuca seaweed goes well with the mint and peanuts, but in my opinion, it lacks sesame seeds.
Solid 4-banger. This place get busy so you better have a res or just plan on getting lucky. Lots of families, tourists, rando's from who knows where, the crowd makes no sense. But the ladies running the show at the front are efficient, friendly, and get things done. Waiters are average for the most part after many visits. They'll take your order, but don't expect too many, if any, check-ins. You have to ask for water, etc. Ok not ok, it is what it is. Inside gets packed, loud, don't sit in the front, tons of people and delivery / pickup orders queueing there. Food - pretty damn good Vietnamese fare, garlic noodles are great, spring rolls (chicken or duck) are excellent. Vietnamese crepe ok, the sole (sizzling sole?) is really good. Although they need to set it up for you if you're a first time, which they'll do 50% of the time. Again, table service gets a 2/5, food gets a 4/5 and while being busy isn't an excuse, it's still a solid place. I would def train the waiters or hire a few more if I was a management.
Every dish we ordered had a good mix of flavours. The spice levels were just perfect..(1.5× 🌶) The table was a bit small to house all our food stuff but I really enjoyed everything from the soups to curry.. and the portion size is perfect.. but I'd suggest you bring a +1 so u can taste more food 😋. They also give you a fortune cookie 🥠; to end on a good note, like literally!!
Great spot, all plates were delish except for the Chicken Pad Thai. It had a very interesting smell and taste to it. Sure Wasn’t pleasant. Will still come back and order everything but that!
Neither Thai, nor Vietnamese but still close to both and quite quite good. The flavors have been Americanized but that works for their market. The service is very friendly and professional, portions nicely sized and reasonably priced and the food IS good
Very crowded, so the service wasn't great. Nice waiter, just took a long time for food.
It's actually part Vietnamese/part Thai. But still good. Two negatives: difficult parking (underground off the rear alley) and only one toilet for the entire restaurant. Didn't think that was legal. Also, it's not actually located on PCH. It's at the corner of Dahlia and 5th. The alley is off 5th.
This Thai food was delicious and the service was really great . We came in the evening however and the lighting is just out of control. It's all wrong for an evening restaurant. It feels like the lighting in a dentist office. They're even people who had lighting on top of lighting because their tables were right underneath a large very bright pendant light , that basically Spotlight the tables. We would have hung out longer and had another cocktail if it wasn't for that . But everything else was great. Probably a better bet for lunch or just generally for takeout
Elegant setting. Excellent service. Food comes out very fast. Quality of the food is high. If you are looking for authentic food this is not the place. We asked for Thai spicy and it was mild at best. Americanized ethnic food. Most people eating here are older Caucasian. Extensive menu. Parking might be a challenge.
The reason for the 3 stars is partly because I had to fight with the flies with our food. The flies were trying to land on our dishes. I had to eat and wave my hand around at the same time. The table next to me had a fly flew into his thai tea and landed on his vegetable for the pho. Their server replaced their tea and replace the vegetable for pho which was good. The second reason is for the pad see ew dish. I have had this dish at various Thai restaurants and the dish is usually dry(not wet with sauces), and not overly sweet. It is different than what I had experienced at other thai restaurants. If you prefer something with more sauce and sweeter, this place might be for you. The egg rolls are crunchy and flavorful. The tofu and vegetables are also very tasty. I think they might have used to the same sauce for both Pad see ew and tofu and vegetables because both dishes taste similar. They do offer the pickled fresh Chilli which is my fave to add a bit salty and spiciness to any dish. Again, my 3-star review is not solely based on the taste of the food, and each person has different likings. I would still recommend Bamboo bistros to anyone who likes their food with sauces and a bit on the sweet side(for those dishes I ordered). My brother-in-law liked the food because he likes everything with lots of sauce and sweet.😆 I also understand it is hard to control the flies because the weather is hot. This is my second time visiting. Both time because someone in my party craves their food. I will return with someone if they want to go, and perhaps try their other dishes. I hope I can enjoy my meal fully next time and not needing to catch the flies with my chopsticks like Mr. Miyagi did.🤣
I was really happy when I found out that the restaurant would be open near our house. This restaurant is related to Brodard Chateau which we love to introduce to our friends. However, we are disappointed that the food here is not as good as the one in Brodard Chateau even though they have the same menu. I ordered a vemicelli with BBQ pork and it came out not as fresh and the meat was really salty and chewy. My husband ordered his favorite Clay pot rice and it turned out bad too. As a Vietnamese, I can tell that the food here is not something to crave for. If you want to have better food quality, I'd recommend the original Garden Grove branch.
The menu looked really great however the service was really terrible. Server was very curt, abrupt, unfriendly & poor. We had to ask 3 times for water. He told us that they couldn't serve any Noodle dishes for some reason. The place wasn't crowded but he was in a big rush & never stopped by our table to ask how we were doing once we were served. He gave us our check but never returned to process our payment. Honestly, we were disappointed and very surprised as it was our 1st time here & the reviews were so good. We will not be back.
Ordered takeout. Even during a busy night our order was ready fast. We ordered the pad see ew and honestly it was a little disappointing. There wasn’t much flavor and for some reason the (small amount) of noodles were in a separate compartment of the container away from the sauce and veggies. Maybe we ordered wrong but probably will seek out better in the future.
I'm a frequent diner here and like most of the dishes that I ordered. I have to give 3 stars this time 'cause the shaken beef tasted like sauté boiled pork meat and very dry rice. They were very busy so I didn't tell the waiter.
Ordered a Thai coconut milk , got some kind of sweet soup. When complaint, they brought us some lime ( ended up getting charged $3, which is ridiculous. Next time ask for a combo soup. Ordered a non alcoholic came 2/3 filled with ice!
I don’t understand all these great reviews here. Maybe we were just extremely unlucky, but our experience was not even a mediocre one. We got placed on the 2nd floor, unfortunately next to very loud groups that had no filter. However, we had chicken dumplings that were presented very poorly and didn’t taste at all. My main dish - garlic noodles with beef - was most likely the worst Asian dish that I ever had (besides a chicken soup in Macao...). Arrangement bad, no taste, the whole thing looked like Spaghetti tossed in Thai curry sauce and tons of mushrooms and asparagus mixed in it. My wife’s wonton soup was fishy and not tasty as well. The waitress that took the order never showed up again, and we had to ask for the check at the end, and the plates etc were never cleared. Not to mention that anybody had asked how we had liked our meal. overall, I cannot recommend this place I am afraid.
I made an online order for yellow curry, green curry, and fried rice and got no green curry, but instead a completely random dish. Next time u door dash from here be warned. I order from here all the time but will be stopping.
Not sanitary! Food was ok but as I sat at the bar I watched the bartender dip dirty glasses into a sink with soapy water and then wipe the inside of them down with his bare fingers… no sponge, no dishwasher with hot water, and for that reason I won’t be returning. That’s not sanitary. That’s not how you clean a freaking glass that strangers have been using.
To be fair, the food is alright. Everything else is wrong. Your experience will start with a very long wait (despite a reservation) where you will get a combination of being completely ignored, or being yelled at for not waiting in the right space. Everyone in the restaurant seems entirely focused on the take out/delivery business which may be more profitable. Then you will be seated in a brightly lit, noisy spot, and then you will wait and wait again. We actually got so tired of it that we went directly to the bar to order our drinks and bring them back to the table. Then someone will take your order but when the food arrives, there will be mistakes, wrong dish, ingredients missing. Then you will have to endure a stressful environment where people are trying to get everything they can off your table (probably to push you out faster) so watch out! Then you will get your check super fast (that’s the only part of the dinner where you won’t wait). The prices will be high but it’s Newport Beach. Now don’t make the mistake of trying to use the restroom. There is only one for a very busy place so you will face a very long wait. Overall, if you want Vietnamese food that is OK AND be treated like cattle, Bamboo Bistro is your place! There are plenty of other places to eat at.
Waiting for almost 30 mins to get the seat when the service said "wait for 5-10mins" We sat outdoors under the tent due to busy hours, and the table was not flat. Not to mention that the service was pretty awful. The service was careless. Maybe because the service would not come outside as often as indoors. Ordered coconut shrimp, and it wasn't good. The flavor was pretty plain and the ingredients inside weren't good. The roll springs were ... interesting. I didn't know how to describe. Overall, I would not recommend.
1.5 HOUR wait for online order. I ordered through their website, it did not mention a wait time, I called multiple times (they would not answer the phone). I received an email 30 minutes after ordering saying the order would be ready in an hour (total 1.5 hours). We are locals and have dined here many time, but Will NEVER return. An hour wait may be understandable, but it needs to be disclosed upfront, not 30 minutes after ordering, plus, I cannot call them to cancel my order. We are now scrambling to find something for dinner. I am so disappointed.
Ordered 3 dishes through DoorDash a couple days ago. None of them tasted very good, but we were hungry. Halfway through the Pad Thai my wife spit out a big chunk of melted plastic wrap and then we noticed little bits were mixed into the dish. We stopped eating all dishes halfway through and tossed them out. DoorDash refused to help. The next day we spent too much time in the bathroom and stomachs hurt. Extremely disappointed all around.
If I could give zero stars I definitely would. I arrived at 7:45pm and put my name on the wait list and all the girl said to me was that it was a 40 min wait. I said that was fine. We waited 40 minutes for them to only come and tell us that we needed to look over the menu and have our order ready because the kitchen was closing. We didn't even have a table yet. They either should have told me from the beginning that they would be closing or not even mentioned it once we had waited 40 minutes. Instead of apologizing they just made excuses. We will never be going there again. We only go there because there are no other Vietnamese options in the area ...the food there is pretty sad and not really even Vietnamese. From now on we will definitely do the drive to Diamond Jamboree were the food is excellent and the customer service outstanding.
The girl in glasses at the distribution desk was unpleasantly rude and left a terrible impression on me.
horrendous service. firstly they say you’ll have to wait an hour for dine in when there is clearly multiple open tables. then the waiter comes and asks for your order about 25 minutes after being seated and the food comes out nearly an hour after. as we dined we saw that the waiters were taking care of other tables near us, but we were not offered any service. the “service” they were providing to the other tables wasn’t all that great either, but a simple “can i get you guys anything else” would suffice. all of a sudden, when we’re about to pay they put on a happy face a kind to us, HAHA. no. no tip and 1 star. i will never come again. thanks for a horrible dining experience.
Great food. Great place. Service was horrible. Don’t sit outside with your dog. You will completely be forgotten about. I had to go in twice to get things done and I’m a very patient person
I recently dined at Bamboo Bistro and, unfortunately, it was not the best experience. While the food was decent, the quality of the meat, particularly the chicken, left much to be desired. Compared to other places like Panini Kabob Grill, their chicken quality doesn't even come close. What stood out most, however, was the poor service. Our waiter was rude and seemed uninterested in making our experience pleasant. Their harsh attitude made the meal uncomfortable, which was disappointing given the restaurant's nice location and potential. Overall, while the food was just okay, the lack of quality service overshadowed everything else. I hope they improve both their customer service and ingredient quality in the future.
I use to absolutely love this place. Unfortunately after my experience with their take out food last week and my dine in experience today, I'm not unsure if I'll be back. The pad see wee use to be AMAZING but was terrible when we got it last time. The service I experienced on a non busy today was awful (got my meal before my tea), forgot the other item I ordered and couldn't even bring my bill and to go containers in a timely fashion. Apparently my server left and no one bothered to replace him.
