Claim Jumper Costa Mesa Reviews
Unfortunately, I did order the tri-tip and it was on the menu said it was only served, medium rare, I asked the Server and she's like yes that's right. I also asked her how long it had been since they cooked it because you know I want my meat rare to medium rare well three pieces wereperfect medium rare. The other four were well done, the service atmosphere made up for it, but definitely won't order the tri-tip again. Everyone else's order was pretty good. I think the cook was just having an off day.
We had such a great time here, Nicole took amazing care of us from start to finish. She was super attentive, kind, and always checked in to make sure we had everything we needed. The food was absolutely delicious, and the whole experience felt personal and welcoming. Honestly, if you come here, ask for Nicole she’ll make your visit even better. Thank you, Nicole, for making us feel so well taken care of!
48 years in business and still kickin' , I enjoyed my dinner at Claim Jumper more than I thought I would. This would have been a 4 star review but my server, Christian, made it 5 stars! He was friendly & efficient, kept my wine glass full and removed the cup of Chicken Tortilla soup from my bill when I didn't like it (too much broth and not enough chicken or tortillas!) I did love the Loaded Potato Skins, snack size is a perfect dinner for one or as an appetizer to share. The free bread is yummy, too! The SCP location is huge and great for families or large parties. They also have a busy bar and an outdoor patio area.
My review from 2 years ago was a 4.2 overall with consistently good food. Professional server, a little scripted, but professional. Great drinks and decor. A welcome respite from shopping the SCP. Today (5/24) , my food review dropped significantly. The service and atmosphere are still nice. The food quality had gone down TREMENDOUSLY. The fish and chips were more like "fish sticks" and soggy fries. The fish pieces were slightly bigger than my thumb. The crust was much bigger than the fish. See pictures. We also had the Tri Tip, medium rare. It was dry and flavorless. It needed a sauce or some more spices. The sides were pathetically small = tasty fried broccoli and cole slaw, but not much bigger than a double-shot glass. I understand shrinkflation, but Claim Jumper used to be known for it's ridiculously large portions. No more. Steaks were ridiculously over-priced, ranging from $50-80 for a rib eye, $160 for a 3-pound tomahawk. For that price, you can eat at Maestro's across the street for guaranteed quality and a finer dining experience. Seriously, Claim Jumper, check your meat prices. To the restaurant's credit, they have a great happy hour, fair drink prices, great appetizers, burgers, and sandwiches. Onion rings and fired zucchini were very good. I recommend the burgers for flavor and value. The staff is still professional and attentive. They give maximum effort. I've lost faith in Claim Jumper as a dinner destination and will now only eat lunch and appetizers there. Claim Jumper of old is a long-lost memory.
Had an awesome day date with the misses and my service dog. Sat at the bar and had they're happy hour specials yes I eat got a little bit of almost everything lol Calamari, mozzarella stick, fried zucchini, slidders, wedge salad, and for my service doggie I got her a kids meal 2 slider special with mac and cheese I ate 😀 food was delicious, service was awesome.
Came here for valentines 💝 day! The drinks we got were delicious 😋. The steak was filling even though it was small. The baked potato was warm to cold-ish. The brussell sprouts were good but not as good as the California fish grill ones. Overall I'd say decent for $100.00 including tip on valentines day.
We haven't been here in several years. Wow, we had a great time. The service was amazing. Our waiter was attentive, friendly, and quick. He was ready with drink refills without being asked and he always came by to check if we needed anything. The food was delicious. 5 adults and one child and the only complaint is the 7 year old thought her cheese pizza had too much cheese. Is that even really a complaint??? Lol The portions are large. We all had something to take home. Of course that could be that we shared a sampler platter and cheese bread for appetizers. I was happily full before my entree made it to the table. Bow Tie Pasta, Asian Chicken Salad, Country Fried Steak, Cheese Pizza, and Chicken Baker. All yummy. The Chicken Baker was a bit on the salty side for the blackened chicken but not the grilled. We will be back now that Claim Jumpers is back on our radar. And that Cheese Bread is to die for 🤤
The food was delicious. We didn't have a reservation but got seated quickly on a Friday evening. The server, Manny, was nice, and food came way faster than we expected. Good choices on the drinks menu and appetizers. I tried the Widow Maker burger for main course and liked it. We'd come back and recommend them.
Let's start with the appetizers, the loaded potato skins. Oh boy, they were like potato angels wearing cheese jackets! I swear, I could hear them whisper, "Eat me, eat me!" And so I did, without hesitation. The clam chowder soup was so good, it made me want to dive in headfirst and swim around like a happy clam. And when it came time for the main course, the chicken pot pie danced its way to my table, accompanied by a delightful medley of fruits that made me question everything I thought I knew about food pairing. It was like a culinary tango in my mouth, and I was the lucky partner. Now, let's talk about the service. These folks were like food ninjas, delivering our orders faster than I could say, "I'm hungry!" Our waters were always filled, and I suspect they had secret water-filling powers because I swear I never saw them pour. Now, my girlfriend, bless her soul, opted for the chicken fried steak with the gravy. Let me tell you, that dish was so good it should come with a warning label: "May cause uncontrollable food-induced happenings”. Claim Jumper in Costa Mesa was like watching a phoenix rise from the ashes. The food was delicious, the service was top-notch, I highly recommend giving it another chance. Who knows, you might just find yourself falling in love all over again, one appetizer at a time.
Great atmosphere. We had a problem with our order and they made it right and fast. I like this place because things change and a few items get added and taken away regularly. Bathrooms are clean and service is exceptional. Bar is always quietly lively and there are TV in the bar area. Bring the family, the fellas, the ladies and you will have a great time with everyone
Service was fast, food came quickly and soup was nice and hot, we made reservations, waited maybe 5 minutes
The brussel sprouts at CJ are probably one of the best I've ever had. The lobster mac n cheese was really good too. It's a little bit pricey. Over $200 (including tip) for two people. The Costa Mesa CJ is pretty big also. It's located on the outside of South Coast Plaza on the Bristol St side. I recommend making a reservation too.
The place is big and friendly. Food is okay. Not great. I didn't like the dishes and lost the appetite browsing the menu - because it was dirty with oily finger marks. The plates they served the dishes also had oily smudges. Overall ambience is nice but food and food serving quality are below par.
Their blackened atlantic salmon is a great choice for those looking for a balanced and healthy option. The taste is nothing spectacular but not bad at all, and relatively fresh. The roasted vegetables were surprisingly flavorful too. The portion size with the sides was perfect, leaving me satisfied even as I was pretty hungry. I must admit though that it’s absurdly overpriced for what you get. There are MUCH better options nearby that are also significantly cheaper. The service was pretty bad, taking about 40 minutes to get our food and nobody available to refill our waters for at least 10-15 minutes. Overall, pretty average for fast-casual dining.
So this location is nicely decorated and there was no wait time when we arrived at approximately 12:00 pm on a Saturday afternoon. The egg roll appetizer was delicious with a little spice and some salad on the side. The chicken sandwich was also good. Unfortunately the ribeye steak plate had a lot of fat which was not enjoyable. We also ordered the lobster macaroni and cheese with a super strong fish smell that wasn’t pleasing. The bread didn’t come sliced so it was challenging not to touch more than your own piece. It was also disappointing that the dirty dishes stayed on our table making it a bit crowded.
Well it is definitely not the claim jumper of my youth. The food is pretty bad. I'm sure this will be the last time I bring my family here to eat. My grandson has been violently ill since he had the lobster Mac n cheese. My chicken fried steak was more like a breaded and fried piece of leather. The service was fine. How many times could our server apologize?? The table was sticky and the manager blamed the finish on the wood. Whatever. Claim Jumper. You blew it. You took a great restaurant (that was always lively and fun) and changed the menu. Now it sucks.
Nice setting, good service, but food really sucks. Not first time here and every time feeling it couldn’t be that bad, maybe just a fluke and that I should try again. Not anymore. Definitely not my place. I think it takes a talent to make something as simple as grilled shrimps and veggies to taste that bad. South coast has a lot nice places with decent food - go there.
I’ve been to Claim Jumper several times in the past, and honestly, the food was always good. That’s why tonight’s experience was especially disappointing. We ordered the Fish & Chips, which came with fries. The fish was served as four very small, extremely thin pieces. There was barely any actual fish; it felt like mostly batter. The fries looked old, very dark in color, and tasted like they had been sitting out for hours—dry, overcooked, and unpleasant. We also ordered Chicken Tenders for the kids with mashed potatoes. While I understand chicken tenders can be frozen, these tasted like they had been in the freezer for a very long time before being fried. They were extremely dry and flavorless. The mashed potatoes were just as bad—no taste at all. No butter flavor, no salt, no pepper, and large chunks of potato skins throughout. Completely bland and unappetizing. This was very surprising because our previous visits were genuinely good. Unfortunately, this visit was a major letdown, and based on tonight’s experience, I don’t see myself returning. I hope this feedback helps improve food quality and consistency.
We're from San Diego, and we're used to Claim Jumper. My sister and I were excited to come here because there was some more Clam Jumper down where we live. My other sister, this was her first time. We warned her that they serve huge portions. So we got a order of potato skins to split, each got a cup of soup, and the trio cheeseburger sliders to share. First came out the soup. Immediately after came out the sliders. Lastly, a few minutes later came out our appetizer, the potato skins. The portions were all very small. The soup was excellent. The sliders were small, even for sliders. My bun was rock hard. It actually snapped when you bent it. Sliders are supposed to be small, but these were small! The burgers on the sliders were obviously small frozen patties. Not what's expected at a good restaurant. The soup was excellent. The potato skins were little wedges, and actually cut in half. So our order of six potato wedges were actually three potato wedges cut in half horizontally. They were so bland, and some of them were so charred, they were inedible. We were so disappointed. Now we understand why Claim Jumper are left. San Diego.
