Dinah's Kitchen Culver City Reviews
When the original Dinah's Kitchen on Sepulveda near LAX closed months ago it was the end of a historical culinary dynasty. Dinah's was a restaurant that for decades attracted thousands to eat their famous chicken and of course their variety of delicious pancakes. I was thrilled to see Dinah's reopen on Sepulveda near Washington Boulevard. Yesterday my friend and I enjoyed a wonderful pancake and omelet breakfast and it was great to be able to enjoy Dinah's once again. Check it out!
We did the Thanksgiving Dinner Order and let me to ya.. I'm a mom of 3 and I might not cook next year either after ordering here this year. I have a shoulder injury and it was almost a blessing because the food here was so good... Turkey was so juicy and the sides were delicious. You can't beat the price. The customer service is fantastic. My whole family loved it.
I met a family member a couple of miles away and asked if she wanted lunch. I remembered the old location so I did a search and they were only 2 miles away. It was a Sunday and parking was difficult but we each found a spot. The food was just as good as I remembered. She had a build your own omelet and I had a grilled chicken breast. We both enjoyed what we ordered.
Wife and I dropped our nephew at LAX so we decided to stop in at the New Dinah's diner on Sepulveda and Washington in Culver City. The old place was a classic 50s diner (think Pulp Fiction), The new place is pretty much the same. The tables are new but everything else is 50s diner. The waiter pointed out the morning special. It looked good so we both had that. Coffee came first and it was good. Then came the food. They put a lot on the plate. Take a look at the pictures. The piece of ham covers half the plate! Neither of us could finish the food. It is 8PM and I am still full. Atmosphere was just as you'd expect. Music was 60s and 70s. Service was good but not intrusive. Price for 2 was $42 including coffee and tip. Plenty of free parking. We will be back. After all, we haven't tried lunch or dinner yet.
Freakin YUMMY home style fried chicken dinner! I got chicken, mashed potatoes, green salad, and it comes with bread. The portions are HUGE. If you’re in Culver City you have to stop here. I was on a business trip and was trying a bunch of different restaurants.. this makes my top 3 for the area. 😁
I would say Dinah’s is in my top three favorite diners in all of Los Angeles. The others being Pann’s and Pacific Diner. It’s been open since the 1970s, so is quite famous around town. They serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner and every time I have been the food is terrific. Our server was very quick and attentive and they were very fast with the drink refills. We ordered iced teas (which is home brewed and very good), and they even brought an extra pitcher and left at the table. The coffee is strong and they really have a ton of great options on the menu. There is a giant free parking lot attached so finding a parking space will not be an issue. Inside is very large with a lot of different seating options from booths to tables to counter seating. Just as I would hope the inside looks like a traditional 50s diner and really is a great throwback to classic Los Angeles. The menu is very large and it has a lot of great options so it was very hard to choose what we wanted to eat. We ended up starting with a Cinnamon Roll because we saw them as we entered the restaurant and it was gooey and sweet and wonderful. It’s huge and covered in frosting and we both really enjoyed it. We ended up ordering the German Pancake , or as it is also known: The Dutch Baby. It was honestly really great, and was better than a lot of the other versions I’ve had of it. I decided to order a side of over easy eggs and put them in the middle of the pancake, which I would really suggest. Overall a delicious diner with fair pricing and large portions and free parking. I would certainly recommend to anyone looking for a solid casual dining option.
First of all, the staff themselves were the absolute gems of this place. Our waitress Sandra was absolutely fantastic, she was such a pleasure to interact with and helpful at every turn. I'm so glad to have been seated in her section. Answered all of our questions. The food was great as well. I had the fried chicken dish. Do I think it's the best fried chicken in the world? No, but that doesn't mean it wasn't delicious. I would absolutely order it again. The banana bread was a bit on the staler side, but the flavors were still there. Navy bean soup was hot and delicious. In hindsight, would have done the all you can eat fried chicken to split between me and my dinner companion. Worth a stop in, especially if you are staying at the nearby Hilton as I was.
We ordered Chicken and Waffles, and the senior Chicken dinner. I like that you could pick white meat or dark meat with chicken, which was perfectly done. Tasted wonderful. But the height of the meal was clearly the waffle. Light, crispy and super delicious. The salad was fresh and the dressing very tasty. The coleslaw was good. We took home a small bucket of chicken and they included delicious dinner rolls with it.

Well, so glad we found this place again! After the closing of the original spot we sort of forgot about it. We were there on a Sunday night and Erika helped us out. It was quiet, given we were close …
The staff are fantastic. The food is excellent and very reasonable prices. I'll definitely be back often when I'm in the area.

Great atmosphere, but very different from the original Googi building. We ordered 3 Apple pancakes which were not the original large size. These were the small pancake. They were flat- not made how they were made in the original location. Besides that, they were good, just not as good as they used to be. They used to be made more like à soufflée. I hope Dinah’s continues to thrive, as their other food hasn’t changed. It’s the only place that makes creamed spinach that is good. Thank you for the many years of making apple pancakes!
Nice American brunch place. Very large portions for reasonable prices compared to other places in the neighborhood. Service was good, though there was an error in the order, landing us too much food and a slightly higher bill. Nice to have booths as a part of their patio seating. Overall, I recommend this place if you're looking for an American style menu. I would consider splitting a plate unless you are super hungry or have very fast metabolism. Side note to the owner: you might want to consider creating a separate "breakfast special" menu and only sharing it with customers when it's actually available (Weekdays only).
My wife and I have had this restaurant on our "have to try" list for a while. The wait to pick up the pre-called in order was longer than expected because they seem a little understaffed, but we won't hold that against them during a pandemic. The fried chicken was good. Not the best we have ever had but it had good flavor and reheated well in the following days. The potato salad was really good. My wife even had good things to say about it and she doesn't even like potato salad. We tried the macaroni and cheese and it wasn't like my grandmother's, but it was better than average for a restaurant-made mac and cheese. We enjoyed the baked beans also. We also got a cinnamon roll and enjoyed it immensely. It wasn't too sweet. We think it would be even better eaten fresh! We look forward to trying their breakfast options. All in all, we will return and it is a good affordable option near Culver City.
I was so disappointed during our visit. I remember going to Dinah's years ago and the chicken and sides were all fresh and really good. As soon as we got there the prices and offers on the menu wer…
I had fish and chips, which was a sad affair of possibly frozen breaded fish heated up. The fries were ok, but the coleslaw was really good, surprisingly. The staff and wait people were marvelous--really kind and helpful. The atmosphere was fun and friendly. I didn't choose the restaurant and I don't like waffles, so I have to guess what's good here.
I bought biscuits and gravy and took them home. The biscuits were so hard, even with gray on them, that I ate one and threw the other 3 away. I've been a fan of Dinah's for years. I love the new location because they have patio seating. But if this is what the quality is like, I won't be back. Service was GREAT!!! It's also hard to find where it is in the parking lot. Maybe another sign would help.
It was my family's first time at this new location, so we were excited! The not so excited part was receiving bill with extra charges on our food and drinks! The waitress did not disclose to us that there were extra charges for some items. I got charged for extra sauce and juice which was recommended from our waitress.
Its was my first time. Ordered the chicken tenders dinner. Honestly, it was ok. Not great. For $20, i dont want microwaved banana bread and bread, soggy fries and i know for sure were left out for a while. The chicken tenders…id rather eat mcdonalds at this point for half the cost. Disappointing. Wont come back.
I finally be able to stopped by this new Dinah’s family restaurant today! The place looks nothing like the old Dinah’s I grew up with . It feels more like a sports bar / modern country style restaurant now, kind a reminds me of Barney’s Beanery in Santa Monica. But that's Nothing wrong with that. I ordered the same plate I used to get at the old Dinah’s ever since I was a kid, back when my mom & grandmah both were still alive and also I would stop by after a long day working hard at the sites being full grown man . I still remember how the staffs there never looked down on me or treated me strangely with a guy with Dirty work uniforms ... they always showed me respect and kindnesses as I'm a one of real blue color workers who came here to eat. Today, as I looked at my plate, the price, service and this new place's atmosphere all included that I realized that my Original Dinah’s is long gone, that part of time that’s passed into fabrics of space and time .... Gone, gone & gone ... Thank you, Original Dinah’s, for all the great memories for Real ... It was the only way I reconnect me and my mom and grandma at table with me ... Wishing the new Dinah’s the best of luck. 🤞
The Dinah's we used to go to closed. We had stopped going years ago because the food was always hit or miss, usually miss. We decided to give this place and chance and it was just not even close to good. The chicken was crispy in any way, if I did not know better I would think they made a batch and just let it sit out. The pieces are small. There is not one thing I can say good about it. The rolls, which used to be a high point were hard as little rocks and had no flavor. The mashed potatoes were watery. The gravy was okay. We ordered to go, but we saw the place and it did not have one comfortable seat. It was not super clean. The service was so very slow. It is really sad. When FFC is better you know there is a problem.
The new management is very nice. Very nice people and the new restaurant LOOKS amazing. However, the *food* itself is nasty. I'm so sorry. I wanted to love it because my mom shared such good stories and memories about the old location. This chicken is not fried chicken. It's shake'n'bake at best. The green beans were plain as hell. No salt, not marinated and cooked with Hamhocks or bacon. Taste like they just heated it out of the can. This good was not "made with love" as Black people practice. The man n cheese is on but not what I expected as a Black American who knows what soul food should really taste like. I might come back and try the dessert but this is not soul food =\

Loved original Dinah’s and have been loyal customer for over 50 years. Took guest who just arrived in America to the new location and was completely embarrassed. The chicken and waffles, normally a Dinah’s can’t miss dish, was terrible. Waffles undercooked and center had cold uncooked batter, chicken was dripping in oil with overcooked skin and raw in center. Servers were MIA for coffee refills or anything else after dropping off food. Then I was told my Dinah’s gift card, which was purchased just before the move, would not be honored- because they had a different kind of cash register software, not because it was invalid or expired. Do not waste your time or money going here, the old Dinah’s is sadly DOA.
