Donut Wheel Cupertino Reviews
I get the crew donuts once a week from here. They are delicious! I mean I haven't had a donut I didn't like but these are definitely tasty and made perfectly. The toppings on the deluxe ones are over the top awesome. I love to get the jalapeno and ham croissant as a treat for myself. Friendly service and very quick. I would recommend any of there tasty treats!
Our favorite donut shop because it has so many kinds of donuts, and they’re all great! Our faves are the crullers, donut holes (filled and unfilled), cake donuts, bear claws, and raised donuts. Their tables had been blocked with boxes after the pandemic but they’ve been cleared so now you can eat inside again, AND they’re open 24 hours!
Best donuts and best selection in town. This place has been around forever and the quality is consistently awesome. Very light, fluffy donuts. Also several vegan choices that actually taste delicious. Donut wheel is a San Jose institution!
The donut shop has a variety of donuts. They have good vegan options as well. My son wanted sprinkles on donuts and the person at the counter was very sweet to put sprinkles for him on vegan donuts. Loved the customer service.
Some of the best donuts I have ever had, I was looking for donuts in the bay area and these are one of the best
Surprise! We were finishing playing miniature golf and my son’s friend said, “Let’s get a donut.” Happened upon this amazing shop. Had never been. Delicious!! There are varieties of donuts that are not seen in regular donut stores. They have a strawberry short cake donut that’s cut in half with whip cream and strawberries in the inside. They have donuts with maple glaze and bacon crumbles on top. They even have M&M and crumbled Oreos on top of some. And of course they have the classics. We enjoyed the warm crullers.
Amazing donut and great place for late night studying. Thanks to owners
Best donuts in the area but it’s gotten very expensive for a dozen—now 25 USD. (August 2025)
Solid, classic mom and pop donut shop with added bonus of being open 24 hours. If you seek trendy donuts go elsewhere. These are classic, FRESH, and delicious. The day staff work hard and are very friendly. The coffee is basic and decent. If you seek trendy coffee, go elsewhere. It's everything a good donut shop should be. No wonder they have been in business so long.
The Donut Wheel is not only the best Donut shop on the entire planet, it served as a refuge, a home away from home for me when I was in my late teens and early 20's in the early 1990's. Any time of the day, whether it be 3 in the afternoon or 3 in the morning I could pop into the Wheel and enjoy a fresh nut. My buddy who lived over near Blaney coined the term "fresher than fresh" to describe the hot glazed donuts that just got their glaze. I compare every donut Ive had anywhere since to the Donut Wheel. Although they've vamped up the menu to offeran array of new, enticing treats, they still make the best crullers and apple fritters ON EARTH. The Donut Wheel is an institution, and the Best thing left in Cupertino, hands down.
Looking for a 24-hour donut shop? Donut Wheel is the place for you. This isn’t just a donut shop—it’s a slice of Americana glazed in nostalgia and fried to golden perfection. If you haven’t watched The Donut King documentary on Hulu, do yourself a favor and hit play. Uncle Ted would be gleaming if he saw these classic glazes and maple bars still holding it down. From the outside, Donut Wheel won’t wow you. It’s not trying to. It’s the anti-Instagram donut shop—zero neon signs, no flower wall, and definitely no overpriced matcha-lavender-brioche croissant hybrids. What you get instead is pure tradition: unapologetic, sugary, and proudly unfussy. Shout out to the overworked, under-caffeinated uncle behind the counter—stoic, grumpy, and probably running on two hours of sleep and a lifetime of hustle. As a fellow Cambodian, I’ve had a few warm conversations with the owners, but don’t expect any special treatment. Respectfully, Uncle’s been through it. He’s got that “I’ve been up since 3 a.m.” energy, and honestly? The man earns it. The donuts speak for themselves. That cakey old-fashioned? Perfectly crisp on the edges with a rich, dense bite. The maple bar? Classic. The blueberry twist? A sleeper hit—packed with actual fruit and not just artificial blue sugar. Donut Wheel is a rite of passage for De Anza alumni and a standing monument to the American immigrant dream: grind hard, feed the people, and keep the family business alive. Sure, the interior could pass for a run-down public library—fluorescent lighting and all. But if you’re coming here for the vibes, you’ve already made a wrong turn. Come for the bear claws. Stay for the donuts served with just enough stank attitude to remind you they don’t need your approval. Highlights: classic glaze, old-fashioned, bear claw, maple bar, blueberry twist. A dozen might make you briefly question your grocery budget (thanks inflation), but if you’re trying to flex just a little at work, grab a half dozen. It’s the perfect “I like you—but not like like you” gesture. With a subtle side-eye. Yes, some say the quality dipped a bit after new management stepped in around 2022/23 post-pandemic. Prices crept up too. Blame the economy—or blame Trump if you’re feeling bold. Either way, Donut Wheel is still as American as Uncle Ted and apple pie
It's always been open before the tech. Industry really came here, and the. Y're revival, but they should celebrate days in a National Donor Day and give a freebie or a discount, like other establishments to that participation with the community is out there.
An excellent choice for a classic donut experience with some modern touches like vegan donut choices! Crullers, jelly, bearclaw, old fashion, cake etc. With many tasty frosting and topping choices. Just tried their crumb for the first time. Excellent.
The donuts are always fresh, the staff is super friendly, and it just feels like a cozy spot to grab something yummy.
Great donuts, great owner. Very friendly staff and open 24 x 7.
They have a massive selection and I love the selection they have. Even more than that, I love that they are open 24 hours a day 365 days a year, which is crazy at the same time but I love that they are available if you’re ever craving a doughnut. A few of my favorites are the Cronuts (it’s like a blend between a croissant and a doughnut) , the French Crullers, the Apple Fritters and Blueberry Fritters and their filled donut holes and their Boston Creams.
This place is an institution. I was hanging out here at 3am with the LARPers and students and cops in the 90s. We've lost a lot over time but, somehow, we've kept the donut wheel. Gods bless you, kind purveyors of donuts. May your prosperity never wane.
Yum. I moved out of state and have not been able to find any really good donuts since I left. Im here visiting my daughter and asked her to find a local donut shop. Omg were these good. The chocolate old fashion were so large and fresh and delicious. I had to buy 6.
I love this place! My boyfriend has been going since he was a kid. It is still family-owned and has a local feel. It's open 24/7, which I love! They have really great cronuts too. They also have a few gluten free and vegan options.
I love that you can get cake donut holes as well as typical raised. Their blueberry fritters are the best. Their buttermilk bars & old fashioned are second best (compared to Manley’s) within 40 miles. Also second best vegan donuts I've had (compared to Psycho, though I haven't tried the place near Santa Clara & 10th in SJ). First place on some, second on others, but open 24 hours... And they crush any of the other 24 hour options I've EVER visited. Did I mention the incredible blueberry fritters?
The bear claw had apple filling inside and omg it was DELICIOUS! My friend loved the blueberry twists, besides that all the others we tried were pretty good like long john and the raspberry filled donut hole. I picked up donuts around 7-8am The old man behind the counter was very kind and patient as he explained every kind and I was asking for which I admit took a while as I was deciding on what to buy via a video call lol. Grateful to them for being open during the covid times and keeping donut prices reasonable. Dozen donuts for 12$
I like that Donut Wheel sells a Bakers Dozen, which is 13 donuts. And that their glazed raised are big and fluffy. There were so many traditional and fancy donuts. Even Cronuts! I also spotted Apple Fritter bites, which were about the size of their big fonut holes. And a crazy good looking frosted Red Velvet caje donut. Huge display cases crammed with yummies. Since I was picking up 2 dozen for my mechanic's crew I opted opted for a box of glazed raised and a box of classic assorted. Huge, yumny and heavy! Since I can't eat gluten, I could only admire the big yummy looking donuts. That said, Donut Wheel does have a gluten friendly donut with your choice of chocolate, maple or vanilla sugary glaze. The gluten-free donut is a generous sized cake-like creation that they make and store separate from the wheat varieties. And they have separate containers of the 3 different flavor glazes. The gluten free donuts are packaged in plastic clamshell food containers. Its a decent gluten-free treat. Really more cake than donut. Here is a photo of their separate gluten-free prep area and a chocolate and a maple gluten-free donut. They flipped in the bag so please don't judge these treats by my careless handling. I've also attach some photos showing all the different Donuts in the display case. This place is like donut Disneyland. And better than disneyland, they're open 24 hours a day!
First time trying this place. Couldn’t decide what to get, so we got an assorted dozen and were pleasantly surprised! All the variations were delicious! We ordered delivery through DoorDash and it was packaged well. It was nice that we could order donuts in the evening. Will definitely order here again!
Great place always open late and now they have seating! The funky donut flavors are always fun to try!
These are the best donuts I've found in the South Bay. Delicious, good variety with the typical donut types and flavors as well as more interesting (but still delicious) non traditional flavors. There is a reasonably good vegan selection, the staff are always friendly, there is ample parking and this is my go to place for donuts. I highly recommend their fritters. Some of the best fritters I've ever had in my life!
When this place popped up while I was searching for “gluten free donuts” I thought, no way, no home style donut place has gluten free donuts. But they sure do! I went immediately. As others have said the people working here are extremely nice. They bake the gluten free donuts on the spot and can finish them however you like. The donuts are naturally cakey but very delicious and hit the spot, especially with the frosting. Despite morning traffic it’ll be tough to resist making this a weekly stop…
Swung by to pick up some treats on way to visit Mom and Dad. While doing the usual give me a few of these and a few of those, I asked what flavors of jelly donuts were left. (It was 9:45 am, in Donut Universal Time, half of the day was gone) The lady said she had some unfilled ones in the back that she could fill for me with anything I wanted. OMG....an item I've had on the back burner was to locate unfilled jelly donuts. An unfilled jelly donut with a generous dusting of powdered sugar is a first order approximation of a Disneyland beignet. "Could I please have two lemon jelly donuts and three unfilled ones?" This is going to be a surprise for the kids when I get back tonight. 🥳🍩😀 ...and of course, I had to get a large black coffee. The store now has a Square payment terminal, you can pay with a credit card if you forgot to bring enough cash. I think there was a $0.50 surcharge....well worth it when donut shopping. I was so giddy in finding unfilled jelly donuts! I get to cross Action Item off my mental todo list.
I just ADORE this place — I will never miss a Sunday pilgrimage to the Donut Wheel!! First, there is a square point, you CAN use CASH or CARD. Second, the folks here are so kind! And they have more donut selection than I've seen in a lot of places; Ube cake & yeast, Matcha glazed, filled donut holes, sprinkle donut holes, maple bacon bars, cronuts, cereal topped, oreo topped...the list goes on and on and on! Plus croissants, chocolatines, ham & cheese croissants And, they just got a new espresso machine! If you want that real mom & pop donut store experience, this is it
Simple and straightforward! I am easily obsessed with their coconut donuts! Specifically the cake donuts. Go so well with black coffee as you can imagine! It’s fun watching them dip the donuts! Pretty solid little family establishment right down the road from Apple‘s headquarters. They have Apple Pay so you can totally get in and get out without physical contact!
Old-school donut shop with free off-street parking, lots of seating, tasty donuts, and good diner-style coffee at below-market prices. Close to the old Apple headquarters (1 Infinite Loop). Only a few blocks south of the De Anza exit of I-280, so great for travelers. Open 24-hours and even some holidays (open today, MLK Day).
This is a great 24 hour mom and pop donut shop with friendly service like the good ol days. Once you walk in you can smell the fresh donuts and see a little bit of history. Every time I went during the odd hours the coffee was still fresh and hot. I ordered the glazed, chocolate, and coconut sprinkled donuts. For three donuts and coffee it's a little over $5. The people here are friendly and helpful as well.
I love a late night donut, it’s a joy when road tripping. It’s hard to find donuts that taste fresh and not like every other donut everywhere but this place accomplishes all of that! The donuts are SO good, I went back two nights in a row while in town. Service was great - fast, polite and efficient! Can’t wait to come back again.
This place is awesome. See below for a picture of a raised crumb donut (actually I ate it almost in one bite since it was so delicious). There's also a picture of a Cronut, which was also very satisfying and disappeared somehow equally as fast. For the price of what Starbucks charges for a single Venti coffee, I had all THREE! (Large coffee with cinnamon and chocolate, large Cronut, large raised crumb donut). Anyone complaining about this place really needs to evaluate their outlook on life. This place will make you and your family happy. Enjoy!
This place was recommended to me by a local and I was told nothing but good things about it. Donut will did not disappoint me at all. This place needs to be more famous than what it already is in my opinion. Quick-service and the donuts are delicious. I will be coming back here to conduct more research in the future. If I gain a pound or two, I won't even be mad. Well worth the added weight :) Stop by and check them out before the morning rush. Leave a review and tell people what you think about it.
I am in LOVE with Buttermilks. Never had them before. And also enjoyed blueberry fritter.
Cutest donut shop and incredible service. Got a sugar donut that was delicious. The person who was working was very welcoming and professional. 11/10 would come again and reccomend to others!
Wow the donut wheel has upgraded! They doubled the amount of donut counter space and have added some more fun flavors. This time I tried a red velvet along with our standard faves. It was also fun to see the creating process happening while I was choosing our yummy donuts. 'Ummm donuts". Donut wheel never disappoints!
My second time and won't be the last! Supporting the local mom and pop shop while getting my fill with very soft donuts and not overly sweet, which is a big plus for me. Creme filled donut holes are 👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼 $10.05 for the whole box! Very clean inside. Tables and chairs are stacked so no dine-in. Employees are very patient with us while we choose our sugary vices. Bring cash to avoid the $0.25 or $0.50 transaction fee.
Cute shop near my friend house, have driven by many times but never went in and yesterday I made the time! I won’t lie the vast array of options gave me decision fatigue. So I asked for the popular flavors to help. I ended up getting 1 trendy item which was glazed Cronut and then 1 that is more classic which was crumb cake style donut. Both were excellent. Note I went in the evening I will go back next time in the morning to see if that changes flavor and texture in case it’s more freshly made. Since it’s my first visit didn’t go for any fancy flavors like matcha or ube. Also my mom is more a purist and I’m not sure she would enjoy those flavor profiles. It was safer to stick to classic American flavors this trip
I've been eating donuts from Donut Wheel for almost my whole life. They are so good! It's an old school donut shop. My favorite is the maple old fashioned. My daughter's friend said the apple fritter was the best she's ever had. They're open 24 hours every day so it's always possible to get tasty donuts.
Came here for Gluten Free donuts for my cousin on Sunday morning. The server was so kind! He had the gluten free donuts set aside in a separate container, and asked what kind of icing she wanted. He did the icing fresh right there! Such kind and friendly service!
I am so so allergic to milk…their vegan donuts ARE SAFE!!!! I am here all the time, my husband and I can’t have milk. These are legit the best vegan donuts I’ve ever had. I usually like raised and hate cake, but these vegan cake donuts are better than non vegan cake donuts. It’s unreal and sooooooooooo good 🔥🔥🔥🔥 Tip: come at midnight and everything is fresshhhhhhhh
Not as much selection as usual but still very good donuts
I would’ve given this place 5 stars but the asian lady behind the counter could’ve been nicer, i asked her if the people next door at Apple HQ come here often & she seemed a bit annoyed when she said yes, but the donuts! i have to say! best donuts i’ve eaten in a while! Got a classic maple filled custard donut & Rasberry filled donut! so good!
***Update - donuts were excellent, service was significantly better from the same guy. Why? I think he remembered me and decided to provide much better service. Whatever the reason, I raised my stars. *** Donuts look great. I haven't tasted a single one yet. Why?? Because the service was atrocious 👎 Perhaps you will walk in here and not be ignored for several minutes and only acknowledged when loudly asking for service. His response, "we all go things to do man, I'll be with you in a minute (after several minutes of already standing there)". Service sucked. Hopefully it's better next time. If I even return.
When I have money, I like to come here and get donuts for myself. Food everywhere has been really expensive recently, so it's definitely a treat. Their blueberry donuts are definitely worth trying. I normally like the old fashioned donuts, I used to love maple and chocolate ones, and even regular raised donuts. All are good here, but their blueberry cake donut I would say is my absolute favorite. I'm not even a cake donut person, but this blueberry cake donut is even better than their blueberry fritter, and I have tried that after other people commented about how good it is. Both are good, but their blueberry cake to me takes the cake! It is pretty sweet, and moist, yet very crispy. I love crispy donuts and this one has been consistently excellent I've used DoorDash to order from here and I would suggest not tipping if you're going to pick up. I tipped on my doordash order, then went in and waited somewhere between 5 to 10 minutes to pick up my little white bag of three donuts which was sitting there the whole time. I was the only customer in the store, and I had to wait for the employee to take care of some orders and microwave multiple items before I was even acknowledged, and all I had to do was pick up a bag which was literally waiting there the whole time. Donuts here are great, but the service is pretty terrible the few times I've been here, so come here with patience.
showed up at 2am and could smell the sweet smell of sugary donuts from the parking lot outside— good sign to me! donuts were good and they had lots of flavors which i would be willing to go back and try, but the man who was working at the front gave us a bit of attitude and forgot to grab some donuts from our order. we had to go back and ask for them which is why the one star is deducted.
We bought 3 different types of donuts and two were really nice. The donut texture and softness is good. The glazing is a bit too much and some feel a little too greasy. I would surely be going again to try the remaining options.
Came to this location during a work trip in Cupertino and I have to say very impressive. This location is open 24 hours and I was able to go after a few meetings and enjoy a couple donuts not only were they extremely fresh and tasty the gentleman that was behind the counter was super nice and explained all those flavors and options. I walked out with eight cookies and cream doughnut, and an original glazed.
Fresh tasty donuts but expensive and in a run down building under construction with a City stop work order posted. There are a few tables inside but no electrical outlets and no WiFi, not a good place to work or have business meetings. Beverages are limited at best.
The donuts are a bit overpriced but they're pretty good. The area has a somewhat run down parking lot which is usually packed later in the day. One of the workers was really nice during the evening but on the night shift, one worker is somewhat rude and always has headphones in when taking your order. Overall 3.8
NEW REVIEW: May 2025 $4 glazed twist $4 chocolate crueller Prices are just too high now... And so, now the donuts are not as fresh. And I start questioning the quality of the chocolate glaze etc. At these prices...I might have bought my last donut. OLD review: (Absolutely have loved the best 24 hour donuts here for many years! South Bay secret. Yum Try their chocolate crullers and of course glazed raised, which is how you judge any donut shop. You won't find better.)
Gotta agree with everyone that the new staff are very rude. Donuts I had were delicious, but some seemed like they have been out for a while. Also, they aren’t cheap. 4 stars for donuts 1 star for staff Would’ve asked about the flavours and maybe gotten more, or visited more frequently, but for now it’s for midnight cravings only.
Good donuts and fritters, along with a good variety of products. However, from the moment I walked in (I was the only one there), the woman behind the counter had a major attitude. The milk in the fridge was hardly cold. The place was a bit dirty too. Not sure if I would go back. 2 stars, but I added an extra for the good donuts.
$6 for two regular donuts (one chocolate one original glazed). Sad.
I used to get an apple fritter once every few weeks for the better part of a year. They used to make them more fluffy and more bread-like, but now they are flat and super sweet. The sugar kicks your stomach to the ground. Unfortunately, this has been happening for a long time now 😕 Just tried it again after a few months and it's still way too sugary.
Gluten free donut is not a donut, is a super cupcake. It's tasty as a cake, but not the "donut" flavor I was hoping. Regular bagel was a bit hard. Croissants are huge and tasty
Play came upon this mom and pa shop. I was craving donuts late night or something sweet. Came across this in tik Tok. I had to check it out I talked to the owner and he said that they've been there for 30 years. Never knew they were there lived here all my life. Not disappointed in the donuts at all they were delicious. Would recommend people to come here.
We tried the blueberry fritter and an old fashioned chocolate donut. Both were delicious. The blueberry fritter was crispy and soft and the blueberry flavor was just enough, not over or under whelming. The selection is huge and I almost got the vegan chocolate pistachio donut. There is no seating and all the furniture is pushed up onto the side. The bathroom is also closed to customers. The young woman who worked today (03/04) at 2:45pm was unnecessarily rude. She neither greeted us, hardly acknowledged us and actually ignored me when I said, "thank you," while at the register after paying. Then she turned and assisted the next customer. I hope this employee isn't here the next time I drop by. She left a bad taste in our mouths but luckily, we had yummy donuts to soothe us.
I have been visiting Donut Wheel regularly for the last 1.5-2 years, and it used to be one of my favorite donut places. I always appreciated the sweet lady who used to work there – she was friendly, answered any questions with a smile, and made my visits enjoyable. However, there has been a change in the staff, and I must say that the new employee, a man, has been quite rude and arrogant. It's disheartening that he gets upset when customers ask questions or seek assistance. This change in customer service has made my visits less enjoyable, and the donuts no longer bring a smile to my face as they once did. Sadly this was not a one-time experience for me, and now I'm hesitant to visit the Donut Wheel again.
I came in last night with my boyfriend to pick up some donuts. The donuts were good and they had a nice selection, but the service could have been better, especially from the Latino man who rang us up. We were polite, paid, thanked him, and left. Once we got to the car, we realized we didn’t have napkins. My boyfriend went back inside and simply grabbed some from the self-serve container. He didn’t speak to anyone or ask for anything. When he returned, he told me he overheard the Salvadoran employee say to a coworker in Spanish, “Oh, here comes back the Indian to complain.” My boyfriend understood everything because he’s Salvadoran himself. The comment was unnecessary, unprofessional, and also incorrect — he wasn’t going in to complain, and he isn’t Indian. He was just getting napkins. Overall, the donuts were fine, but the customer service was disappointing.
Donut holes 60 cents each. They pre-package donut holes in batches of 6, so they're old and stale. They tasted so bad it wasn't even worth eating them all. Glazed donut almost $3. It's not even stans donut quality but they charge HIGHER than them!
I do not recommend this place to anybody that is looking for a decent donut and good service. Customer service was extremely bad, not good. The atmosphere seemed really dirty inside and outside. The donuts looked burnt and they did not taste good. I bought my nephew two donuts, and both of them were not fresh. I also got myself a glazed doughnut. It was an OK doughnut, but not the best. The lady that worked there with the long black hair needs to find a different attitude. The cereal donut was stale. Donut holes were average. Don’t waste your gas money. They can definitely do better.
Today I bought butter milk for $4 it tastes old. Maybe the cook is off.
The clerk was super rude. It was empty inside with not a single customer. I now know why. A lady clerk was the most rude person I’ve met. I asked if they have pigs in a blanket/ Kolaches…which is a staple of every single donut shop I’ve ever been to. Instead of being polite she said “the menu is right there, no we don’t have those” Then she said “I’ve never heard of those and we have what we have.” I obviously did not buy anything. It all looked old and stale.
I was stupid enough to believe the rating. The attitude of the sales man is horrible. I asked him twice if the stuffed cream is normal cream twice. In the end all three kinds of stuffed donuts are stuffed with Boston cream, not something I like. I will not come back. I am sure some people like it. I won’t for their service and horrible cream
Tasty donuts and coffee. Will visit again.variety of options to choose from. Donut holes must try . Edit : One hour after leaving this we realized that we left our wallet and so went back to get it . Guess what wallet was handed over by the friendly staff but al the cash totally washed out from the wallet not even a dollar was left 😬😬😬😬😬😬😬😬 so cutting down the 4 star to 1 star. And will surely not visit the place again .
