The Cavaliere Dalkeith Reviews
Don’t be fooled by the modest entrance, the restaurant tables on the back have an amazing atmosphere. Make sure you have a reservation though, although we were promptly seated without one, I could see it was a lucky shot. The service was flawless, everyone was very kind and helpful. Overall the food was good, but the Arancini was spectacular; I have to add, the sole reason for the food 5th ⭐️
We had our group (14) night out here and were well looked after. The food was excellent, arrived hot & good portion size. An added bonus was the lovely cocktails on offer. Toilets were palatial, the nicest I've visited since the Balmoral hotel!
I like this restaurant a lot. Its service is excellent. The dining atmosphere is so great. With the nice music, it is simply enjoyable to dine here. The food is great, especially the steak.
I was so surprised at this restaurant, the food was amazing , the service was top notch and the waiting staff were so friendly and pleasant. I will definitely come here again the only thing that i can fault was our table was a tad on the wobbly side but the experience was so amazing I havent reflected this in my review. Oh and oh my god the toilets in this restaurant were absolutely spotless. I just wish other places would take a leaf from the cavaliere owners and staff here what an absolute pleasure this place was.
Great restaurant serving fabulous frozen cocktails and a good pizza & pasta menu.
Great night, staff really lovely and the food was fantastic.. thank you from Steph and Anthony Christopher xx
Service was spot on and the food was amazing. Already looking forward to going back.
An amazing Italian place in town. Portion sizes are huge and delicious. Cocktails are also tasty.
The staff are wonderful and welcoming. The food is excellent. It is a great experience and would recommend to all. The Spaghetti Carbonara is very good.
Great food and wine. Good value in refurbished local Italian restaurant. Knowledgeable waiters. We don't get to go often enough!
Delicious! Very good service! Friendly people, a real Italian restaurant!
Best Italian I've ever been to. Authentic Fresh food and HUGE portions. We booked for 4 of us and all the dishes were delicious. The restaurant is very well presented and we loved that we could see the talented chefs preparing our meals. Biggest olives we've ever seen! The upstairs area is immaculate; the toilets are on par with any good 5 star hotel, it's easy to see that a lot of love has gone into this place with no expense spared. Service was absolutely faultless. See you next time when in Scotland! x
Staff here are so friendly. The service was very quick and the food was delicious. There are plenty of gluten free options available here. Highly recommend :)
Fantastic food with the best service. The staff really do go out of their way to ensure a great experience.
Every time I order food from this place I feel as if I've been properly taken care of. From the moment I walk in, the staff are always welcoming and cheery. I know this cannot be easy at times. We are all human after all, but I walk in, I'm greeted with smiles and a *genuine* friendly atmosphere. No pretense - just people being upbeat and passionate about what they do. This most certainly comes across in the food also. I've had some amazing and authentic tasting pizzas from the Cavaliere, but their pasta dishes are exceptional. Tonight I had the Tagliatelle Sophia (with added chicken). It was a recommendation from a couple of the staff. All I can say is thank you guys for the recommendation! It tasted fantastic. Really great place for food. I've never actually eaten in the restaurant - it's always been takeaway so far, but I'll definitely have a proper sit-down meal there soon. Fantastic people and food!
This is honestly the best italian resturant ive been to for a long time. Service was brilliant, the food was incredible and the atmosphere was great. The staff were all really friendly and the food came out quickly. The dessert was great too aswell as the drinks. I definitely recommend coming here. Overall a really nice place and the restaurant was spotless.
Been here many times in the past and never disappointed. Last weekend was the 1st time with a large group. 15 of us for my parents Golden Wedding Anniversary. Staff were fantastic, very attentive and joined in with a bit of fun with us. As usual, the food was incredible and the atmosphere, as always, was good too. They even kept our own cake for us and brought it out with the lights dimmed and candles lit. Nice wee surprise. We never, ever have a issue here. 5 stars every time
We went as a party of 4 to celebrate mum's /granny's birthday, the staff from the start were very attentive. One in our party is coeliac and so requires a gluten free menu. Our server took the time to explain the options available which is a welcome change from some restaurants. All ordered 3 courses and all plates were empty after every course, absolutely no complaints on the standard of food provided, all in all a very enjoyable experience and would not hesitate to recommend. Hopefully we will be back soon. Gordon. Party of 4.
A very enjoyable dining experience. Friendly staff, especially Ricardo (Ricci). A varied, mouthwatering menu. We each had risotto - seafood risotto and one with king prawns and a creamy sauce. Each one was delicious. We were able to take our time and enjoy the ambience. Will definitely return here. Thank you.
Celebrated our daughters 18th, staff were absolutely fantastic and very accommodating to our party. The food was stunning. Will be back again soon. Highly Recommended
Fantastic night food was superb. Very happy group of 19 pilates ladies. Staff were great. Highly recommend.
Charming and excellent. Delicious food and impeccable service. We tried the pasta, pizza and bruschetta. They had a varied kids menu. Great to see an original Italian institution still going strong. With so many awful Italian chains on the high street serving overpriced fodder, this was such a refreshing change. Beautiful, bling decor - this is where the Kardashians would eat if they were in Dalkeith. Stunning restrooms. What an unexpected treat. We will be back!
Beautiful restaurant for food and decor. Our annual visit after the pantomime. Service and food amazing as usual.
We went to the cavaliers as a birthday treat. We had a great time, the service was excellent. I had the best calzone I have had in a long time.
Wonderful Italian restaurant with an extensive menu, generous portion sizes and reasonably priced. Great atmosphere and attentive staff so what’s not to like? Enjoyed the experience so much whilst on holiday we went back for a second visit.
Dropped in by chance when travelling down south. Prawn cocktail was best I've ever had, enormous prawns, tasty sauce and fresh garnish. Gluten free pizza was amazing. Fresh tasty and light. Not doughy and heavy. Beautiful restaurant and the bathrooms are stunning and spotless. Huge portions and I was offered a box but declined do to continuing our journey but I did see others take away. Would highly recommend
Had a lovely dinner, particularly the king prawn linguine which was perfect and a generous portion (some places skimp on the prawns). My wife loved the pizza and our desserts (tiramisu and chocolate fudge cake) were delicious. It’s a very large restaurant and was well staffed so there was no waiting to be served for ages. I found the bruschetta to be a slight disappointment as the bread wasn’t as nice as expected but it was overall an excellent dinner and I would come back.
Outstanding!! This is a gem to find !! A truly amazing Italian restaurant. I want to highlight not just only the great food and impressive service. This restaurant Cavalier certainly deserves the recognition for its Italian gastronomy excellence as well as genuinely well trained staff who are so dedicated and knowledgeable . Roberta sets a fine exemplary standard to what superb service is about , with his great service and charm. Being in F &B is never easy and to provide a superb service deserves a big round of applause and appreciation!! Taking my time to leave a great review goes beyond just the meal. The entire dining experience—from the warm and inviting atmosphere to how the staff made us feel. The Bruschetta was perfect , pasta was Al dente and the dessert , Tiramisa was heavenly n divine !! The flavours are a true signature of Authentic Italian cuisine!! Kudos to the chefs!! We definitely will be back again and again . Well done everyone !!⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
My family went here for dinner. A nice place to get your Italian cravings satisfied. Wait time was about 15-20minutes. Loved the ambience, the interiors of the restaurant and especially the restroom is simply breathtaking. And we enjoyed our meal. We have also ordered a delivery a while back and it came earlier than scheduled, delivered by a courteous fellow. I would especially recommend the half pounder burger, yummy!
I've not been for a few years to the Cavaliere, overall we had a good experience. The food was good but I think it was slightly expensive for what I got, I ordered the breaded Haddock and Chips, at a cost of nearly £18 I was disappointed that the chips were cooked from frozen instead of homemade and the fish came in 2 small fillets and not 1 large, the peas were a bit over cooked and dry, and the salad that came with was a little limp, the rest of the party got a good mixture of items and all enjoyed the food, I did have a taste of some pasta, lasagne and pizza and all tasted really nice, I think the next time I visit I will go for one of the more traditional Italian dishes as these seemed to be the best. The atmosphere was nice even though it was quiet due to it being Wednesday night, the restaurant it beautifully decorated and modern but still feels very traditional and service was very good considering we were a party of 17. Overall I would definitely recommend a visit if you're in the area, they also have a takeaway part which I use quit regularly and have only ever had really good experiences when using it. ⭐⭐⭐
Not been here before but took my Mum, she wanted to go here, for mothers day. The food was OK we shared a pizza, it was tasty and we shared a haggis ball starter. All in all it was a great place to go, the best in Dalkeith that I have had. Nice!
We decided on a last minute meal out as we were child free for a change and made a booking at The Cavaliere. It was very busy but thankfully I'd booked us a table and we were seated promptly, although it took a wee while to get our menus. However once we made our orders our food was delivered quickly! I had the antipasti plate and it was huge! Everything was very fresh and delicious, although I think it could have been a sharer as a starter, my partner had the prawn cocktail. For mains I had spicy prawns in a tomato chilli sauce with a lemon risotto which was lovely, although a little too much sauce, my partner had the veal with truffle mash and demi Glacé, which had to have a taste of, it was wonderful. It was a little too large a portion for her but they were very accommodating and got us a wee tub to take leftovers home in. The price was a little more than I had expected but understandable for the quality of produce I suppose. Very friendly staff and delicious food, we will be back again.
Beautiful restaurant, delicious food. Great to celebrate a especial occasion. I like the pizza and pasta combo.
A hidden gem in dalkeith pretty rough area but all is forgotten when you step inside cavaliere nice food nice staff quiet atmosphere apart from my kids
The Cavaliere was a family favourite and go to for birthdays and anniversaries. I'd not been for a while and went with a large party. The restaurant is open, spacious and nicely decorated. Service is very good especially as it caters to both intimate couples and large parties who need "organising." Theres a nice range on the menu and for the most part the food is good and most of our party were satisfied. Some of the meals were however a bit expensive for what they were. The Pizza Del Mar was muscles with 2 small prawns and 3small squid rings. My friend's fish in the fish in chips was very thin. The pizzas and pastas lacked any garnish. £10 per glass of house rosé is steep. So nice, good for parties/ocassions but some food offering is bit tired and lacks pizazz and flair.
Nice Italian restaurant, well worth the visit food was great.
Good was good but despite plenty of staff and them not being busy it took a long time to see anyone after we were seated and also quite long to get the check and subsequently pay. I try to be understanding as I know there is more to serving than just what you see but overall we felt ignored by the wait staff. Food was quite good though.
Pizza would have lovely had it still been warm but as it was delivered 40 mins late it was cold
The staff were pleasant and helpful. We ordered pizzas as they are advertised as wood fired, usually meaning they are nicely crisp on the edges and centre. The pizzas were fine but nothing out of the ordinary.
Unfortunately, the quality is declining; this was our favorite restaurant, and we live over 20 miles away. It was worth it, but that's changed. We were spending between 140 and 180 pounds for a single dinner. The shells were good, the burata, typical of Scotland, but also good. We ordered risotto and pasta with mushrooms. The risotto wasn't sticky. It wasn't creamy, maybe margarine-based. The pasta was mixed with mushrooms, unsalted and not al dente, bland. I exchanged it, and the waiter brought the same thing. The staff, young and friendly, don't know how to deal with problems; they try, which is a plus. The cook didn't wish conversation and refused to talk. A sad experience. We no longer have anywhere else to go for Italian food. Signore Gianni, we hope this is just an accident. Water is salted in every kitchen, so it's probably not a problem. We didn't order anything else, paid for our appetizers, and just left. We hope it will be better next time. Best regards, Signore Gianni.
Came the other week with family and seemed lovely, staff treated us very kindly and were very patient, a young man working and serving us was very kind and professional, but after we noticed a women working there started acting out aggressively to the poor boy and then completely put down very other member of staff, we asked one of your waiters on who she was and they told us it’s the boss. Although it’s a very nice atmospheric place with wonderful choices of food, ‘higher’ members of staff should definitely not be treating others with such disrespect, as they also treated us perfectly without fail. Asides from that, very lovely meals.
First of all, dining inside the cavalier is so nice, but this review is for the takeaway, I just sat and watched the delivery driver sit outside my house for 10 minutes before getting out his car with my order, chips were soggy and cold and pizza was lukewarm. Need good consistent delivery drivers, these guys don’t give a toss. Woman on the phone was nice though abd helped get in touch with the useless driver.
Food was mixed to pretty bad. The haggis arancini we had were quite nice and a generous portion as well as an interesting option. The risotto was undercooked and flavourless, and had the silt from mushrooms still in it. The linguine marinara was swimming in flavourless tomato sauce and the seafood was from frozen. overall, especially for the price (25 per head) really not great. Service was wonderful however.
Ordered from the takeaway part of the cavalier, I ordered a pizza and garlic bread to which the garlic bread had absolutely no garlic flavour it was just toasted bread. As for the pizza and service, They got my pizza toppings wrong I phoned with a nice manner not to state I want a refund or anything of the sorts (I picked off the wrong topping) to be met with hostility from the "owner". The "owner" then proceeded to say I can go watch the CCTV of when the order took place, along with when I stated that's no way to speak to a customer (the sheer attitude) she then stated don't come back then and hung up the phone. If you make a mistake you should atleast be responsible enough to apologise but the attitude and displeasure was not necessary. I will not be back and I certainly will not recommend to anyone. P.S the "owner" was making faces and shaking her head while an employee was taking a phone order. This is not a nice environment, I have never left a review on a restaurant before but this most certainly deserved one left.
Worst experience at a restaurant I’ve had in Scotland. Booked a table for 1:45, arrive at 1:40, but table wasn’t ready till 2pm, they had us stand by the till for 20 minutes, what’s the point of booking then. Also it took ages for them to prepare food, I was timing it, because it took so long, at the end it took 90 minutes from the moment we arrived till I got my food served. Not just that, they’ve forgotten a few things from the order, but the worst part was, to my surprise when we asked for the bill, the waiter had added 10 percent tip(hand written) before even bringing it to the table. Not sure what made them think their service was worth tipping. I didn’t complain much at the time, because I was invited to someone birthday, and dinner want to ruin the party, but I don’t think I will ever go back here.
I had to go back to counter after waiting 40mins and I asked when my 3 pizza's would be ready. But they were put through the back and after my 5 mins journey home the pizzas where just warmish and there was toppings missing (artichoke).
I’ve been to a few places around Midlothian and this was probably the worst pizza and pasta I’ve ever had. I made a big order and for some reason they made my pizza 20 minutes before anything else was ready. Ended up with an average pizza and the pasta was like a ready meal out a microwave. Once the pasta was ready the girl asked the man at the fish and chips counter for a small fish and chips and he said it wasnt ready so my other food was just sitting in a heater till that was ready. Overall very badly organised.
Had my mum wake here at the end to April, to say I’m disappointed is an understatement, granted it was short notice, they still had 4 days. We got sandwiches which my grandson age 4 could have done better, grated cheese a slither of lettuce, no butter, Egg mayonnaise again with a slither of lettuce, no butter, sausage rolls, and shortbread. Ham and tomato sandwiches came out an hour later. No finesse, sandwiches were cut in half, just dumped on a platter, no butter, virtually no filling , yet they had the cheek to charge to charge £10 a head, there wasn’t even enough shortbread to cover everyone. Tea & coffee were available, but coffee machines weren’t working properly. Yet they charged £500, when I can assure you they only spent , £50 if that on food . To say that I was disappointed is an understatement. My mum asked for her wake to be here, but I’d rather have done it myself in the street, she’d have had a better send off. She really loved going here with her friends for lunch, but she was sorely let down on by them at her wake. My mum was an amazing woman and deserved the best, I’m sure a lot of people will know her, her name was June Muir. I’m sorry mum, that you’re send off to me as not as we requested. Btw, I told them on the day that I was severely disappointed, not sure how any chef could provide such a poor quality product. I mean, what happened to etiquette, finger buffet requires at least edible sandwiches which are cut into 4, not slabs of dry bread dumped on a platter
Disappointing experience. The product felt rushed and unfinished. Features didn’t work as advertised, and support was slow to respond. I expected more for the price
Delivery service from this place is nothing short of a joke. Don't think in the last year we have had a Delivery from them that's been anything less than an hour and a half late. So that's over the 40 minutes to an hour that your told in the first place. Foods fairly decent but they constantly just lie on the phone "it will be leaving in 5 minutes"......50 minutes later still nothing. I would advise to pay in cash so you can send it back with the delivery driver and you've not wasted your hard earned money
