Lavendou Bistro Dallas Reviews
We went to Lavendu to celebrate our anniversary and had a wonderful experience. The attention and service were excellent — the head waiter was very friendly, and all the supporting staff were extremely attentive, constantly ensuring everything was perfect. The food was outstanding. The rack of lamb was excellent with a crunchy grilled crust, and the salmon with its sauce was prepared with real professional skill. The only small detail that could be improved was the salad dressing, which felt a bit scarce. For dessert, we tried two soufflés — Grand Marnier and chocolate — and both were really, really delicious. Truly the perfect ending to the meal. It is an expensive restaurant, but absolutely worth it for a special occasion. We enjoyed the evening very much and would return for another celebration.
Looking for a special place to dine in the evening or night? Lavendou Bistro Provincial is a terrific restaurant to visit with friends, family, or a loved one. The food and service are spectacular. The atmosphere was welcoming and inviting. Lavendou Bistro provided an excellent menu that included a variety of choices. The quality and care to prepare dishes was apparent and all the entrees my party experienced were absolutely scrumptious.
Love! My mom and I tried the Afternoon Hi-Tea, while dad ordered the Le Filet de Saumon Grillé. The food was delicious, and the service was excellent. We especially enjoyed the savory tea sandwiches and mini scones. The atmosphere was beautiful and very pleasant. Be mindful to plan your visit accordingly because they close for a break between 2-5 pm.
Beautiful setting for high tea! My friends and I went for a bridal shower and totally had a great time. This is your chance to dress up ladies and gentlemen! Great for small or large groups and for those who especially love tea time-the gossip and the actual tea- and for those who love snacking! Food is made fresh! They have various options of pastries, soup specials, sandwiches, charcuterie boards, and so much more depending on the season. It’s so beautiful and dainty on the outside and inside and the assortment of displays are gorgeous too. Service was amazing too. Staff really paid attention and tended to you and your needs. I’d love to come back again. Till then, let’s sip!
THE best food I’ve had in DFW! I’ve never been out of the country, but I did live in NYC for five years, and Lavendou is easily top restaurants I’ve ever visited. The communication: At first communication was a little off because the form I filled out on the website wasn’t answered, that I could find) and it took a couple of calls back and forth to confirm the logistics of our reservation. Also I noted it was a birthday celebration, which went unacknowledged during our visit. I think maybe a link is broken on the form? But alls well that ends well , and here is a run of the experience: The at atmosphere: When I was finally able to talk to the reservationist, she confirmed our time and party and was able to make the reservation for three lunch meals and one tea service. I was really excited to be able to do that because I haven’t had high tea in decades but the rest of my party wanted regular lunch. So be aware they will let you mix and match as long as you’re dining within tea hours AND you get verbal confirmation 24 hours in advance. Now, upon entering, we were greeted warmly, and then seated in the very back corner of the open area. As the only black family in the entire restaurant, this would normally raise some eyebrows, especially since the only other black patron was also at the very back. BUT we didn’t feel it was racially motivated AT ALL. In fact we loved the cozy corner. I only mention this because others reviews have alluded to racist vibes, which we did not experience. Moving on, the place is designed in a classic French Provençal aesthetic and is super refined, yet welcoming atmosphere. You could tell the clientele was generally upscale. The food: The food was impeccable. My sister and son have rather unrefined palates, but they were open to expanding. All in all, we had the chicken Florentine crepes, the lamb chops, the mussels, apple tart, and tea service and everything was unbelievably delicious. There are a lot of reviews complaining of blandness and I’m not sure what they were expecting because everything was flavorful and perfectly seasoned. Perfectly balanced, not spiced to high heaven. I’m a country Texas girl and I know from seasoned. This was just a more elevated experience than what you’re gonna get at, say, the Cotton Patch :\. Portions were very generous. The crepes needed a to go box, and the chops took about 30 minutes to finish. The best (truly home made) French fries I’ve ever tasted outside of my grandmothers kitchen pure unadulterated perfection. My son said the mussels were not his favorite, but he went rogue and dipped his fries in the extra cream sauce. He got a few funny looks doing that lol. That said in 16 years this was the first time my son ate everything he was served. So that says a LOT. I was full on tea service one tier in. The sandwiches were delicate, yet filling, and the pastries were just bite sized joy! The service: The service was very attentive without being annoying. Everyone from the hostess to the waitress to the busser and water server were on point with their timing. We were truly blown away by this restaurant and we all agreed it was the best part of our birthday outing by far. I can’t recommend this place enough and we will definitely return to try more.
Made a reservation for a celebratory dinner, place is rustic and was quite busy for a random weekday! We understood why it was busy once we tasted the food :) Waitstaff were attentive and service was very pleasant. We ordered French onion soup (5/5), smoked salmon (5/5), chicken (3/5), lamb rack (5/5), salmon (5/5) and Branzino (5/5). We put orders for our desserts quickly too, as they had a long prep time. Creme brule, chocolate souffle and poached pear. Mind you, portion sizes are massive on all of them, consider sharing-we were sooo full when we were done.
Lavendou Bistro in North Dallas made my first French dining experience unforgettable, starting with a delicious soup of the day that won me over immediately. It was also my first time trying scallops and I absolutely loved them, and the light, decadent soufflé was truly the cherry on top of a wonderful meal.
A Taste of France Hidden in North Dallas Every city has a restaurant that locals quietly treasure, a place you visit again and again because it makes you feel at home and somewhere far away at the same time. For our family, Lavendou Bistro Provincial in Dallas is that place. It is one of my mother in law’s favorites, which means anytime we are in town, this charming bistro becomes a must visit. Located in a simple strip mall that does not reflect the magic waiting inside, Lavendou is the definition of a hidden gem. If you drove by without knowing what was there, you might not think twice. But the moment you step through the door, everything changes. The atmosphere shifts, the noise of the parking lot disappears, and you are suddenly surrounded by the warm colors and rustic charm of provincial France. It is the type of restaurant that reminds you why dining can be an experience rather than just a meal. Ambiance and Décor Lavendou has an inviting elegance that never feels stiff or formal. The décor is beautifully curated with hand screened Pierre Deux fabrics, soft lighting, and touches that reflect the countryside of southern France. What makes it even more memorable is the way all the elements work together. The space, the service, the food, and even the gentle background music create a sense of transport that very few restaurants achieve. Menu and Drinks Lavendou’s menu is rooted in authenticity. The first glance tells you that you are in for a real French dining experience. Dishes celebrate the lighter fare of southern France with flavors that are thoughtful, balanced, and beautifully presented. Susan always goes for the lobster bisque, which is rich, silky, and deeply satisfying. My preference leans toward the French onion soup, which was flavorful and comforting, though I personally would have enjoyed a few more baguette slices to bring even more texture into the dish. We never skip the escargots a la bourguignonne, which arrive bubbling in garlic butter with French bread ready to soak up every drop. It is one of those simple pleasures that remind you why classic dishes become classic in the first place. Food Quality For our main courses, Susan ordered the Sole De Deuvers with crabmeat, which she could only describe as outstanding. I selected the Gambas et Coqilles St. Jacques en Mille Feuilles. The presentation was stunning and set my expectations high. While the flavors were excellent, the scallops were a bit chewy and the shrimp slightly overcooked. Knowing the talent in this kitchen and having dined here many times before, I consider this a rare miss and fully expect to give this dish another chance during our next visit. Dessert at Lavendou is an event of its own. The Grand Marnier soufflé is a must order. Light, warm, fragrant, and decadent all at once. We have also enjoyed the chocolate soufflé on prior visits and can confidently say Lavendou excels at ending the meal on a high note. Service Service at Lavendou is exceptional. Friendly, gracious, and attentive without ever feeling intrusive. You can sense the pride the staff takes in the experience they deliver. Owner Pascal Cayet is known for his welcoming presence and dedication to every guest. You feel cared for from the moment you arrive until the moment you leave. Value and Pricing Lavendou provides a dining experience that feels special from start to finish. Pricing reflects the quality, care, and craft behind every plate. From a value perspective, you receive every bit of what you pay for. This is a place to celebrate birthdays, anniversaries, engagements, or simply a meal with someone who appreciates great food shared in a beautiful setting. Overall Experience Dining at Lavendou is like stepping into a moment of the French countryside without ever leaving North Dallas. It is warm, comforting, elegant, and memorable. The combination of atmosphere, authenticity, and heartfelt hospitality creates a restaurant that stays with you long after the last bite.
A HIDDEN GEM! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Best Crème Brûlée Ever! I honestly can’t believe we’ve lived in this area for so long and are just now discovering Lavendou! What an absolute surprise. From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere was so warm and cozy—it felt special right away. The service here is next-level. You can tell the staff are true professionals who know the menu inside and out (no 'let me go check). First they brought fresh warm bread, which we normally don't eat, but it was too comforting to deny. We ordered dishes we would never attempt to make at home, with every single bite being a treat. And the onion soup... perfecto! Since we were celebrating my wife’s birthday, we ordered Crème Brûlée for desert, and they insisted on making it complimentary. That gesture was sweet, but the dessert itself? Showstopping! We consider ourselves Crème Brûlée connoisseurs, and this one takes the crown! That thick, crackable sugar crust and the velvety cream underneath... we closed our eyes in appreciation as we savored the flavor of every spoonful. Thank you, Lavendou, for such a memorable experience. We will definitely be back!
Stopped in Dallas for a night, this place was nearby to the place we're staying. Decided to try it because the reviews made it seem really good, and I was convinced by the videos of the amazing souffle, which I've always wanted to try. When we walked in we were worried we wouldn't get a seat because we didn't have a reservation, but they immediately sat us, and while we thought we were under dressed, JP Jean Phillip, our waiter, made us feel right at home. He gave us wonderful recommendations and I gotta say this was one of the best meals I've ever had. One of us had the salmon, amazing. One of us had the special of the day duck dish, which had pork sausage in it and was amazing. I had the special of the day fish (forgot which one but it was a white fish), and gosh it was flawless; the flavors, the seasoning, it was amazing. No need to season with extra salt at all. We also had the frog legs just to say we did, which were also fabulously delicious. And of course, the souffle. Like eating clouds, it was an experience; especially considering how hard they are to make. Love this restaurant, will be making an effort to return and try everything on the menu. Sharing it with all my friends.
Lavendou did not disappoint for true French cuisine. Had been meaning to visit this place for quite sometime, so finally took the opportunity for a friend's birthday. The ambiance and decor was very welcoming and had those nice french touches. The food was absolutely delish - we tried several dishes and were impressed and enjoyed them all. Merci beaucoup, Lavendou!! Definitely looking forward to returning soon!
We recently had the pleasure of dining at your establishment, and we wanted to express our sincere appreciation for a truly wonderful experience. The ambiance was exceptionally welcoming, and the service provided by your staff was both attentive and gracious. Every dish we sampled was a culinary delight, showcasing fresh ingredients and expert preparation. It was evident that a great deal of care goes into every aspect of your restaurant. We look forward to returning soon and recommending your establishment to others.
We had a truly wonderful dining experience recently. The service was exceptional, with our waiters being incredibly attentive to our every need. Each dish presented was a culinary delight. The pork chops were cooked to perfection, tender and flavorful. Similarly, the fish was incredibly fresh and prepared masterfully. For dessert, the souffle was an absolute triumph, airy and delicious. We highly recommend this establishment for its outstanding food and service.
My favorite French restaurant. It's no wonder they've been open for so long! I came here on the day before Valentine's day hoping to avoid the Valentine's rush. Turns out everyone else had the same idea. Nonetheless, the food was still amazing. Bread service was impressive and complimentary with the meal and served warm with two dips: butter and olive oil tapenade. I got the ribeye and it was very tender. Big shout out for the chefs who meticulously prepare the entrees and know how to balance out the flavors. The dish was not overly greasy or salty like the majority of Dallas restaurants. Souffle was delicious as well. I didn't try any of the salads or appetizers, next time!
I and twelve of my friends had lunch at Lavendou's recently. Robert was our waiter and he was very helpful and knowledgeable about the menu. Our food was delicious and everyone enjoyed their selection. The ambiance was delightful. My husband and I have enjoyed Lavendou for more than 20 years. It is our favorite restaurant. We know that we will enjoy lovely, romantic dinners and delightful lunches.
My favorite restaurant in the DFW area. Have been going there since 10 years ago. Have been holding my personal/business/special occasions in there. The food quality has never compromised.
We had great experience here . It deserves more than just 5 stars. Best 🇫🇷 restaurant in DFW. It was packed when I came on Friday so it always smart to make reservation. Food was top notch and they have a wide selection of wine. The staff is so friendly and knowledgeable.
Incredible place to dine! We absolutely loved our experience here...we came early on a Thursday and they definitely had a lot of diners inside and out which is nice.. The servers are always so nice and attentive here, Pierre was fantastic making the night even more special..Food choices just divine and always have excellent specials too..husband started with lobster bisque and then had the Duck, I had the escargot and the Dover Sole..Wow!!! The appetizers were just the right size and the entrees were generous portions and the food as always was incredible! The Dover Sole is my all time favorite and it's absolutely fabulous here. We've previously had the Branzino fish and the goat cheese salad..which are both excellent and the mussels are divine!! Have to definitely make room for a Souffle..we had the Grand Marnier...perfection! We also had an excellent bottle of wine too..Can't say enough good things. Also so great it's in our neighborhood and lots of easy free parking spots there.
We are enjoyed a lovely dinner and we will return! The meals were delicious! Very attentive service too.
The food was very good, especially the onion soup. The espresso martini was excellent. Some places make them too sweet but this was properly flavored with just a hint of bitter but smooth and very drinkable. My tournedos Felix Faure was very good. A very good mushroom, cognac, and cream sauce enhanced the flavor of the beef. The only reason I took one star away for service is because a woman kept asking us if we were ready box up our meals. Annoying! The atmosphere was good but lost a star due to the noise. All in all it was a very good experience though.
Never had French cuisine prior to today. This restaurant was recommended to me off the Seated App and had really good reviews. So glad we listened and took a chance by coming here to celebrate my birthday. The food was excellent. My hubby has the special, and the pork was so tender you didn't need a knife to cut it. I enjoyed the Duck signature dish, and was immediately brought me back to the thought of the fall and Thanksgiving dinner. The flavors were just right. We will definitely be back!
We were looking for something different, and for some reason French food was something we had never experienced. Lavendou stood out from an article we read about the best restaurants in Dallas, and the reviews confirmed this is a top-choice, authentic French bistro. Our reservation was for 6:30, and we were greeted by several staff members that looked eager to provide a good dining experience. We were seated immediately at the back of the restaurant which was beautifully decorated and very charming. The servers were attentive, friendly and informative. Our table was constantly being checked on to make sure we had fresh bread and water. Since we had been looking forward to this meal, we had already decided what we wanted. The French onion and lobster bisque were both incredibly tasty and nearly filled us up with such generous portions. We decided to go straight to the entrees. I was torn between the duck and the lamb, so the waiter suggested the lamb, and it was excellent. Apparently French food is all about sauces, which made the lamb even more enjoyable. It came with delicious ratatouille and potatoes. My wife had the sole filet and thoroughly enjoyed it. She let me have a bite which nearly made me ask to trade dishes. Our waiter cleverly had us lock in our souffle dessert decision before the entree, knowing we would be stuffed. However, we did not regret a single bite of the Grand Marnier. It was the perfect size to share and a exclamation point to the end of a delicious dinner. An experience worth the $200 after tip.
Wonderful food for restaurant week DFW! I had lunch and got the spilt pea soup, grille of lamb, and had a creme brûlée (desert off the menu) soup was warm and silky, delicious and beautiful green color!grilled meats were great, sauce was a red sauce, not too sweet but paired well! Service was excellent and my friend ordered a plain tea and the waitress made it just for him since they have a more fruity tea (which my other friend said was wonderful!) great RW lunch and would definitely go back to dine!
I would 100% recommend this restaurant for couples, or friend groups. I have been going here for about 24 or 25 years. Best French Food in Dallas. The food is superb. Yes it is pricey, but worth every penny. Service is phenomenal. Expect 2 hours from arrival to finish if you are doing dessert. This is not a chain where you are in and done in under an hour. Food and desserts are fresh made. I prefer to order my whole meal at the beginning and trust the waiter to select my wine. I just tell them if we prefer semi-dry, dry wines. Atmosphere is great. Nice without being stuffy or uncomfortable. Expect a minimum of $75 a person if you do all three courses. One had the duck with Pinot Noir and the other had lamb with Malbec. We both started with French Onion Soup and Finished with Chocolate Souffle. Each bite bursting with flavor even the most evolved foodie palette will love. 2 years after my initial review and still one of our favorite places for a nice night out. One again got the lamb. The other changed it up and got the Salmon though. We both had the Vouvray wine. Which is a favorite of mine grown in a small area of France.
This is the perfect location for a cute date. We had an early date here for valentines day and everything was presented in such a beautiful way. The finger sandwiches were very good, especially the cucumber. It was very refreshing with the house tea. The scones were very flaky and light but dense, paired very well with the handmade whipped cream. The best part of the tray was the cute desserts! The tiramisu was a touch too sweet for my tastes but overall was amazing! The staff is very friendly and accommodating. We had reservations for around 11 in the morning and when we arrived we were promptly seated and very quickly served. The staff was also very attentive to keeping the teapot full as well!
We loved it but… My wife and I visited for her birthday (although we didn’t celebrate at the restaurant). We enjoyed the atmosphere, staff attentiveness and the food. It was overall a great visit. However, we had a big piece of hair under the onion soup bowl (between the saucer and the bowl). Since it was under the bowl and we had already finished the soup, we didn’t bring it to the attention of the server. That being said, we thoroughly enjoyed every other aspect of our visit and will be back - hopefully to brush up more on my French language skills.
We visited this restaurant for Friday lunch without a reservation and were seated right away. However, we were advised to make a reservation for the weekend as they are always busy. The chef's daily special was a delightful three-course meal: salad, mahi-mahi, and dessert. The mahi-mahi was incredibly moist, and the red sauce was perfect. We also tried the Crêpes au Poulet Florentine. The crepe was amazing, with a delicious white sauce. The interior ambiance is lovely, and the outdoor patio seating is beautiful. Two thumbs up! By the way, they have high tea available for $26 per person and it’s by reservation only. I will definitely revisit again.
What an amazing experience for my first time in Dallas. I traveled to my country, France, the time of a dinner and enjoyed the most delicious food. Pascal and his all team are so lovely and will make you feel home. Can’t wait to come to Dallas for le Lavandou
It tends to be a little bit older crowd, and it's in a weird strip center. But if you are a foodie and love French food this is a must visit place in Dallas. I've been several times and never had a bad dish. The wait staff is very attentive.
Amazing atmosphere. Absolutely delicious food. And even better service. I went here with my sister and our waiter was Jean-Phillipe (JP), despite being so busy he was so kind and attentive to us and a very nice man. Service is top tier, I don’t normally leave reviews but because this place is so outstanding I had to. I would give it 6/5 stars if I could. 👌
Best french restaurant in Dallas. Delicious food. Classical french fare including escargots and frog legs. Impressive variety of choices. Even more impressive wine list. I was told that they privately import their wines ans spirits directly from France. If you have a sweet tooth, order a soufflé. They have raspberry, chocolate, or grand marnier liquor. For a full experienxe, cap your dinner with a cognac.
Wednesday RE: Our Next Wine Dinner with Raymond Vineyards, Buena Vista Winery & DeLoach Vineyards and their three winemakers!! You don't provide enough information to make a decision. What wines, vintages, menu and price ????? We have received invitations to other wine dinners that week and the week prior. We and our friends will attend one. We like Lavendou's food and tastings. We have purchased cases of wine at the dinners. But we don't have enough information to make a commitment to attend Lavendou's Boisette wine tasting dinner.. Please provide information ASAP. Thursday update: The next day Lavendou's provided a menu and pricing for the wine dinner. I appreciate the prompt response!
We’ve been coming to Lavendou for about 20 years and every time we dine here, it feels like home. The food has been consistently great throughout the years with the highlights being the French onion soup, escargot, wild mushrooms, sole, duck pastrami and the delicious profiteroles for dessert. We see the same welcoming staff and always great to see the owner Pascal always making sure everyone is taken care of.
Lavendou is as close to a real Parisian bistro as you can find in America. I would visit for the bread alone. The warm slices of baguette had a thin yet crisp crust and a soft flaky interior - they could only have been baked within the hour. The lobster bisque was perfect. It was thick, creamy and intensely flavored, with many chunks of lobster big enough to chew. The sole almondine was thin, moist and swimming in a buttery sauce. The abundant slivered almonds gave it a crunchy, nutty umami taste and texture. My companion raved about the classic presentation of escargot in a multi-well plate and the sole covered with crab. The pommes frites were also Parisienne. They were crisp yet soft and contained just the right amount of salt. The profiteroles were swimming in chocolate, and added the perfect finale to a memorable meal. As one would expect, the wine list is extensive, with a heavy emphasis on bordeaux and burgundy. Prices ranged from almost reasonable to very expensive. The service was perfect. Our waitress, Olivia, (named after her father's idol, Olivia Newton John) was always smiling. She timed everything perfectly, appearing just before we needed her and disappearing when we wanted to be alone. Her advice about the menu was frank, honest and descriptive. It was a Saturday night, and the place was filled to the brim, yet we were able to have a conversation without shouting. The bistro was run so well that I assumed that the owner must be hovering about the premises, ensuring that the staff performed perfectly. Sure enough, Pascal, the owner, came to our table, introduced himself, and made certain that everything was to our satisfaction. He must be a descendant of Napoleon, inheriting his flair for organization and motivation of troops.
What a lovely evening we had for our anniversary at Lavendoux French restaurant off Preston Road in Far north Dallas. It has not lost its touch after 29 years. Bravo..!! The place was full of customers on an early Saturday night. Excellent service, delicious food and a cozy elegant ambiance gave the place a magic holiday warmth and made for a great evening. Wishing you many more years of success.
It’s such a warm and cozy atmosphere! Everyone here is very friendly and attentive. The food was better than we expected. Our waiter, Jean Philippe, was very accommodating, attentive and loved talking to us about the menu. Nowadays it’s hard finding places like this gem!
We recently dined at this French restaurant to celebrate my wife’s birthday, and it was a pleasant first experience with French cuisine. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, and we noticed a mature clientele, which we took as a sign of the restaurant’s quality. The staff, from the hostess to the server, were attentive and kind, adding to the overall positive experience. While the food was good, certain dishes stood out more than others. The mussel appetizer was exceptional and easily our favorite. My wife loved the French onion soup, though I found it just okay, which likely comes down to personal preference. The prices were fair for the experience, making it a solid choice for a family dinner or date night. While not everything wowed us, it’s certainly a restaurant worth visiting.
Nice place overall. I wish the menu had more options, the cheese plate was a bit of a letdown, and we kinda regretted ordering it. The service was decent and surprisingly friendly for a French spot! That said, it didn’t feel all that French. Still, I’d go again.
The food was delicious, especially the escargot, which had a rich flavor. Dipping the bread in the oil was an extra treat. The pasta portions were just right, and I appreciated the generous amount of seafood. The steak was cooked perfectly to medium. The soufflé was well-risen and very soft, though a bit too sweet for my taste. Another dessert we tried was apples soaked in cognac with a crispy crust and ice cream, which I found even more enjoyable. Unlike many other restaurants that ask about allergies or food restrictions, this one did not, which was a noticeable difference compared to typical American restaurants. The servers gave off a vibe that made me wonder if they had spent time in France, as their manner of taking orders and serving was quite similar to my experiences there. While communication wasn’t difficult, their unique way of speaking and attitude had a distinct French flair.
Surprisingly, chef unable to achieve medium rare filet. Medium Raw Rare until medium rare..delayed my eating. $45
7pm dinner for a birthday celebration. Food was fantastic. We enjoyed everything we ordered. When it came to dessert, we all wanted souffle. The server failed to communicate they stopped serving souffle at a certain time. This was a huge disappointment. Took one star off because of the lack of communication. We settled for creme brulee, which was good, but not what the party wanted.
Went here for a birthday and my first “high tea” experience. The table settings, decor, and environment is so dainty and pleasant! We had tea (lavender to be specific), if course, which I enjoyed. We also had scones, zucchini bread, pastries, cucumber sandwiches, and chicken salad sandwiches (all pictured below). I wasn’t crazy about the food, but I think some of it may just be acquired tastes and I’m not used to any of the dishes. It’s a great place for intimate gatherings with girlfriends, or any of the women in your life. I’m glad I went. It was a change from the typical Dallas restaurants and bars. It was 9 of us total and we each paid $30 even.
Lavendou is a classic, traditional French bistro with great food. The staff is excellent and many have worked there 30 years. The decor could use a refresh, but with prices for food ingredients being high that can wait. French food served as it should be with simple sauces on high quality fish, chicken, beef and veal. They also serve high tea and we had a group for 16 with plenty of delicious sandwiches, scones, and other pastries.
Food off the menu was good. Not the best given the price tag. High tea was avg. Snacks were very avg. They need to keep refilling the tea pot. They don't stop by and check on you until you flag someone and ask them to refill. Pasta and French onion soup were good. Portions will be small (its a French restaurant). Felt too cramped and decor was too dark/gloomy.
This restaurant has been on my list for years. I lived so close by but would always forget. I heard it's one of Dirk’s favorite restaurants. I always say yes to traditional French cuisine because escargot should be on the menu. It was my birthday and that also meant restaurant week 🫠. I’ve long stopped going out during that time because the prices increased and the portions shrunk a long time ago. Alas, I’m still out for an adventure. It was crowded and buzzing so you definitely want to secure a reservation. I sat at the bar waited for my table and asked for water. The bar area was overwhelmed with making drinks as the waiter impatiently asked for drinks and I was lost in the fray. After about 10 minutes of waiting and attempting to cool off, I received some water but my table was ready. Sigh. There's an open kitchen and we felt it. The heat was severe along with all the bodies. Keep the water coming!!! I ordered the escargot and lamb chops. My friend ordered steak. The escargot was mid. I've had better at smaller bistros. They were small and had more butter than snails. I made the best of it using the soft bread to get more of the savory juices. The lamb chops were perfect and paired lovely with our bottle of wine. A half bottle was plenty so I wouldn't feel waterlogged. I was surprised there was no ambient music to mask table conversation from louder tables. Unfortunately, I knew that I would be incredibly full so I declined the dessert souffle that had to be ordered at the beginning of the meal. I wouldn't mind going again without a crowd to enjoy a meal.
For me, this was mediocre all around… french onion soup was a little on the sweet side, the lamb was not cooked consistently (some were well done and one pieced was rare), fries were “left over.” Crepes were good . Atmosphere was super cozy and ambience was perfect. Service ok.
Went for 75th Birthday celebration. Beautiful interior. We were seated immediately for our 5:00pm reservation. The waiter promptly presented menus for consideration and discretely allowed us to review. He then approached and took our order. He never checked on us after that point, in fact we never saw him again. He seemed to be the only staff there that had a full command of english. The french onion soup was delicious. Our main course, shrimp with scallops in a pastry was delivered by a different member of the staff. Presentation was beautiful however the shrimp was cooked beyond edibility. They reminded me of precooked frozen cocktail shrimp which had been put in the pan to reheat and cooked further. When a staff member asked if could clear our table we mentioned the shrimp situation. He indicated he did not understand english and went to get another staff member. Eventually a manager arrived and we explained the situation. She asked if she could take one of the shrimp back to the kitchen to which we agreed. She kept saying that she did not understand our issue. After a short while she returned and offered us additional scallops which we declined. She kept saying ”I don’t understand”. While we had told our original waiter that we did not want any dessert the manager brought a birthday cake which we also declined as we could not eat it due to medical reasons. Again the original waiter was nowhere to be found. The manager did give us a 25% discount on our ticket however we did pay the full ticket and a reasonable tip. It is unlikely that we will return.
