The Whale's Rib Deerfield Beach Reviews
We were away on vacation and our cousin recommended this restaurant. It was awesome. Food was terrific and service was excellent. Our server Gale and the manager made sure that we had a wonderful dining experience. Everything in the photos tasted great. I especially enjoyed the broiled grouper.
What a fun, yummy place to eat! There's enough on the walls to keep you entertained until your food gets there. I had the shrimp scampi pasta and I'm telling you it was beyond delicious. My husband had mahi mahi and the portions were generous, it was seasoned well and every bite we got was eaten. The salads that came with our meals were fresh and our wait staff was attentive and personable. We'll definitely return any time we're in Brookside. The location is great, just a block off the pier.
Have always loved this place and will always love this place. Quick & casual seating, GIANT menu, some of the best made-in-house potato chips ever. Raw seafood is always fresh tasting and served well. Will always stop by when in town!
This place is amazing. 2 must are Fried rock shrimp and the key West Sandwich. Either with minor grouper. The rock shrimp was amazing taste like baby lobster tails but peeling the hard shell is a bit of a pain but worth the work. The Key west mahi sandwich is still by far the best Fish sandwich I have ever had , and I've had them all up and down the Florida keys. The bun is a little sweet but the Swiss cheese, coleslaw and the thousand Island dressing make this sandwich Devine. The restault gives you old school dive bar vibes but make sure you use the valet service because the parking on street is pricey.
Love this place! If I ever come back to this area I will eat here again. I had stone crab legs, which were very reasonable and fresh! The first and chips was also delicious - I loved the grouper ones, so tender! Service by Ashley was great, and Tasha at the front made us feel so welcome and even talked to us after our meal!
Whales Rib is a Deerfield staple! Amazing fun atmosphere with great drink options and tons of fun food options and TVs to be entertained! The Whale Fries are to die for!!! Any of the seafood are fantastic options. Recommend the Grouper sandwich
My favorites here include the Dolphin Key West sandwich, blackened, with Whale fries, extra Whale juice; the rock shrimp and the lobster bisque. Today I went with a blackened grouper wrap. Delicious as always - The Whale’s Rib is a Deerfield Beach institution for a reason. Don’t miss out 🩵 IG: @backward_traveler
Had the snow crabs, as always very delicious. Great seafood spot. Great blackened mahi mahi sandwich as well. Restaurant been there in like forever, always busy. A Staple every visit. Beach vibes with excellent ambience and service. Average pricing wont break your wallet.
Outstanding! The food is excellent and the service staff works like a well-oiled machine while remaining amazingly calm. They are super busy for a reason, and we'll worth the wait!
It's a great pretty historic for ma since have been going almost my whole like. It's just by Deerfield Bch. Peir and beach. All kinds of shopping around. I highly recommend going to Island water sports. It's a real cool vibe rustic. Food is all amazing..Don't forget to get extra whale sauce. Oyster are blue point right now. So good. Can't say one thing wrong. I haven't been down to Deerfield in a few years so It was a must stop to meet a friend I haven't seen since I was maybe 23. So nostalgic.
We come here very often. It is one of our favorite spots. Today I had the grouper fingers. They were delicious and so much food I could not finish. My wife had the Tuna and she loved it. I love the chips and the yellow mustard house sauce they have. Its great on everything! Whales Rib never disapoints! We love this place.
Very good crab legs & prime rib. Love the large pitchers of drinks so you dont have to ask for refills. Food was hot and very tasty. We will definitely be back.
Fun night, great atmosphere! Food was delicious! Best grouper I have ever had! Frozen margaritas were very refreshing!
Delilah was so great she made our experience so amazing and we will be back because of her!! Also the seasonal valentines cocktail was so good!
Saw the location was featured on the Food Network’s Triple D. I ordered the lobster bisque as a started and it was very rich with perfect lobster flavor. For lunch we ordered coconut shrimp and mahi-mahi fingers. The batter was thin with lots of fish. Both dishes were tasty as were the dipping sauces. My wife was bummed that the whale fries were homemade chips. However, she quickly overcame the feeling as the chips were large, seasoned well, and came in large portions. The honey mustard dipping sauce was a great accompaniment for them. The key lime pie finale was perfect. Great crust. Highly recommend!!
Excellent food. Whale fries (chips) come with their own dipping sauce (whale sauce). Great combination. The blackened dolphin sandwich may be the best fish sandwich I've ever had. Our server, Delilah, was fantastic. Great personality and is very attentive. If you visit The Whales Rib, ask for Delilah to be your server!
So this place was AMAZING ! I want to thank LIZ our bartender/ waitress for the absolutely wonderful service , the most beautiful smile and the most infectious personality and individual could have . I hope you see this . My boyfriend and I came to the Deerfield area for Fourth of July and I had never been before . We originally had plans to eat somewhere else thinking we would not be able to get into Whales rib. Well thankfully the atmosphere and hospitality at the other food establishment was so awful that we ended up waiting for a table here anyways . From the moment we walked in I felt welcomed and I felt like everyone in the building was having a great time . It felt very dive bar but with charm , and I LOVED THAT! The margaritas were on point, my pasta was absolute perfection . I had the seafood pasta with the butter sauce and garlic . The pasta was very fresh tasting and the sauce wasn’t over powering . Just enough garlic ! Had this pasta around 9 pm so I’m happy to say it was amazing regardless of time of day. The calamari was out of this world. Thank you for such an amazing experience and wonderful atmosphere . I will 100% be back next time I’m in town . Whales rib is conveniently located near the beach and also many hotels if you’re going on vacation. An Uber ride cost 5 dollars from the hotel.
We got the seafood sampler and all the seafood was cooked to perfection. Not dry or chewy. Best seafood I have ever had at a restaurant. Drinks were amazing and great prices
This is the best seafood restaurant in Florida it is unbelievable my name is Acen and I am a food critic I came to this restaurant under cover and tried the most popular dishes, like old bay Shrimp and fish dip and many more. The fries are insane if I would pick a restaurant to come to I would choose whales rib. We are so grateful for whoever open this restaurant and my. Tik tok page is @foodreviews093
Best restaurant on Deerfield beach. I sat at the bar, and there were 2 female bartenders. They were attentive and fun. The food was amazing! I've been coming here forever. I had the blacken dolphin key west sandwich. (Which is the best sandwich ever!) I even took a cup of Lonster bisque home....delicious!
Great beachside pub style restaurant. Great vibe, friendly staff from the GM to all the wait staff. The food?? Well, one of the best Mahi Mahi sandwiches I ever had and the Lobster Bisque… I didn’t yada yada over that!! lol Thank you to our server Daz who was friendly and always smiling. He took care of us from the beginning. We will be back!!! The guys from Montreal…
We enjoyed the fresh seafood dishes at the Whales Rib, It was recommended to me by a friend who has his son in Deerfield Beach. Sam, our waitress is very friendly. Bartender service was good and the ambiance of the place, however rustic, was such a good beach vibe. I ordered the lobster platter. It was delicious!
Always quality seafood and iced tea. Menu is seasonal, so the rock shrimp and stone crab claws aren't always available. Rarely you park at the restaurant, but safer to park in the garage and not have to be trapped in the traffic to come back around. We had the seafood pasta and it was garlic buttery with plenty of variety.
Did a pickup order. Had an interaction with about 7 employees casually. Everyone was so polite and was trying to make sure I was taken care of. The food was on point and honest with sizable portions. Outstanding top to bottom.
First time here. Had a Lobster Sandwich and my other half a seafood pasta dish. Also had raw oysters. Recommended by a friend to go and eat at, this is a must go place. Not big, sometimes long waits but we ate at the only two places that have no wait if you are patient, the raw bar......or the regular bar. Great drinks and awesome prices. Go for it. No disappointments on food, service or atmosphere. Awesome area to walk around also. Right near the beach with other top rated restaurants and you can walk the Deerfield Pier for a buck afterwards. I'm a native to Florida bu longevity and own a business close by. Well worth the drive.
Bailey- awesome service! Mgr. Kelley- perfect hospitality! Food- amazing. Service & Wait time - impeccable. Worth the wait. Both seating accomodations are great. Inside- Air Conditioned. Outside- calm Ocean breeze. Covid conscious place. Come see Bailey & Kelley..... You will love it!!!
Hands down THE BEST service we have had on our trip so far, and honestly, easily in the top 5 for best service I've had in any dining establishment. Daz was our server, he was fun, engaging, very helpful, made great suggestions, let us take our time, was very attentive but not overbearing. We were cracking up the entire time. Drinks we had a chardonnay and a rum punch type drink that my mother in law loved! We shared conch fritters (my 11 year olds fave so far, slight spice, declicious dipping sauce, cooked perfectly), a burger (shockingly good for a seafood restaurant!) Seafood platter (VERY good scallops and Mahi Mahi, clams/oysters good but not as good as the fish, stuffed lobster was also fantastic) and whale fries. After hearing the description for the whale fries, we were sold. Similar to ribbon fries in texture, but soaked in vinegar before frying. The whale sauce is similar to a honey mustard and had us fighting for the last of it. One of my main rules when traveling is that we don't eat at the same place twice, but we may have to break that this trip! Definitely worth checking out if you are in the area, and worth the drive if further out!
Went due to a friend who lives locally recommending it. Did not disappoint! Calamari was excellent! Very lightly breaded and just tender enough. Absolute biggest shrimp I've ever seen for a shrimp cocktail. Coconut shrimp was the most crisp and lightly breaded I've ever had! We're both seafood lovers and this place is a must. Drinks were okay. Not super stiff not virgin either though.
There’s a reason this restaurant can pull a 30 minute wait time for dinner on a Tuesday - they have delicious food! Their signature Key West sandwich has tons of perfect flavors and textures, I got it blackened and it was delicious. Their house made chips with the Whale Juice are also delicious! Can’t wait to try more of the menu.
I keep coming back, and the food and service are consistent here. It is nice that they actually keep someone in the parking lot to keep people from parking there that are not eating there. The quality and the food are always consistent and never a disappointment. I love the Key West Grouper. This is a place that I keep coming back too.
This was a very oceanic atmosphere and I loved the decor. Lots of families here on a Sunday around lunch. Food is great value for how delicious it is. The clam strips were good and pretty big. The tuna sandwich was also excellent. The service was nice and quick. Our waiter was awesome. The parking lot guy was anti-social but that’s no big deal. It’s right next to Flanigan’s, so you can always go there for drinks after your lunch! Definitely going back here to try the raw menu.
Wandered in for lunch and had a wonderful experience. Scarlett was an amazing waitress, the conch soup was fabulous, the tuna sandwich was great. The manager even came by to chat it up. Would highly recommend.
I love whales rib….but I love it even more now because of the server we received during our last venture there! Daz was absolutely amazing, treating us with the upmost respect. Making jokes and making us feel like we were at home. I’ll be coming back a lot more
The food was excellent. I was really impressed. Had grouper fingers with their version of potatoes which was like homemade potato chips. The grouper was really good I never had it before it was tender and Flaky with a slightly buttery flavor. The portion was really large I was surprised and the price was excellent. By the way they have dolphin on the menu but it turns out it's not really dolphin, according to them it's actually mahi mahi. Dolphins are mammals and mahi are fish so I don't know why they insist on labeling it that way. Plus on a personal note marketing-wise seeing the word dolphin was a turn off. The drink portions (non alcoholic) are large. Which is super convenient. Definitely coming back to eat here.
This restaurant is our go to whenever we come on our annual trip to Florida and once again didn’t disappoint with service or food…shoutout to server Ashley who was so hospitable and manager Claudio for both going the extra mile, it was my friend’s first time visiting and they made her first visit very special, so appreciated. Sorry to those who didn’t get the great food they’re usually known for, usually it’s top notch! In the pic was the seafood pasta we shared and we got the whale fries (homemade chips)
The Whale's Rib is a nice, beach-vibe restaurant, located in Deerfield Beach, FL, and recommended by the locals. It wasn't too hot and we sat outside to enjoy the view. Had the Norwegian Salmon and wahoo (market price was $25). Also had homemade conch chowder, their World Famous homemade Whale Fries (thin-sliced potato chips), homemade Cole slaw, and house salad. Everything was excellent! Entrees were hot and fresh-tasting. Whale Fries were outstanding! You should try these! For dessert, had key lime pie and Reese's peanut butter cup cheesecake. Service was great as well and the food was brought out quickly. We arrived just before 5PM to avoid long lines later. They do not take reservations. Technically, they have parking, but it's limited and they park your car for you because they have to really "shoe horn" those cars into tight spaces. :-). We went with Public Parking that was just down the street a bit. Cost there was $4/hour, so we ended up paying $8 to park. Much easier than other options. The Whale's Rib is highly recommended! You need to check it out!
Shout out to Delilah, the MVP of our night! Friendly, funny, and totally on top of everything. Drinks never went empty and the vibes were immaculate. The Stuffed and Baked Dolphin was elite! We’ll be back just to sit in her section.
Delicious food. Excellent service. Bailey, the manager, works exceptionally hard to make sure every patron is taken care of and feels valued. At any number I doubt she’s paid enough.
Fell in love with this place on the first visit and had to come back the next night for more!! Can’t go wrong with the whale fries and dolphin key west sandwich. We also loved the stuffed clams. Might have to come back a third time before our trip ends!!
The food, atmosphere, a service (shout out to our awesome server Daz) were all amazing!! I definitely recommend the lobster chowder, the conch fritters, which come on top of a basket of the whale chips, which are a must! The sauce that comes with the whale chips is addictive. (Whale chips are hand cut fresh potato chips). The conch fritters are the best I’ve ever had and we get them everywhere we go because we are Florida locals. My daughter got the fish fingers as her kids meal, and it was hand, battered fried grouper, and absolutely delicious!!! You have to try the Key West dolphin sandwich! Holy cannoli, it was delicious. (if you want to see the “Diners, Drive ins, annd Dives” episode, it’s season seven episode five.
I love the mahi dolphin sandwich it's so amazingly good portion size is great and the food is so fresh! Always love coming back here every time I visit as a tourist from Michigan:-) I loved it even more when I lived here LOL
Looking for another restaurant we got lost and arrived here, at the entrance they received us super, being the only Latinos in the place we felt at first a little uncomfortable because the waiter served us well but as with a hurry and half lying down, since we started to ask him that he saw that we uploaded the ticket there he changed a little attitude, my husband wanted meat it was spectacular and the appetizer super, and I think the owner goes for the tables asking if everything is fine. We'll be back
Good grub. The Whale Fries, which are more like chips, are the best, especially when combined with the whale sauce!! And the garlic rolls are 😍. I only wish they offered better salads. They're still fresh tho. And it's a little more expensive than I want it to be, but you're really paying for service, ambiance, and mostly the fact that you're eating good quality food by the beach. But still one of our favorite places. Took MIL here for some good FL seafood and she loved it. Yum yum.
This was our 4 visit and it was amazing! Our servicer was friendly and attentive. The three meals we had were all fish and were delicious. Love the famous whale chips. Highly recommend.
Good food cool atmosphere. The oysters and king crab legs were good. The shrimp pasta was delicious too. Service was very good. Staff was very friendly and courteous. We visited this restaurant on Saturday with a party of six and we only waited a half hour for a table. All of the seafood was delicious.
This place has great food. The fried grouper fis sandwich was FABULOUS. It was seasoned nicely, a big piece of fish, and the bun was soft. What a great sandwich. The fried clams..delicious. Their potato chips are thin and seasoned just right. You get a lot of them, so eat up! This place is a hidden gem for good food! I'll definitely go again!
For those who like fresh and well-prepared seafood, I recommend it here. My husband loves oysters and I love mussels, especially when made in tomato sauce (also fresh tomatoes). In two days I tried three places and without a doubt this was the best seafood and oysters I ate. The apparently old place, with a different decoration, scattered car plates from different places on the walls, but very cozy and the food is great,
it's a spot which gives you an old timey beach town restaurant vibe. food was surprisingly good. oysters were clean taste. fish sandwich was a hit. whale fries is just a basket of home made chips. some of chips were a little bit too oily for me. over all, a good place to eat if you are in the neighborhood
My husband(A US Coast Guard and Marine Veteran) and I randomly stopped in as he was craving a clam chowder and we wanted to try out a new spot... and we LOVED it in here! Thank you to the owner and management, as well were welcomed in by walls full of Marine and Veteran Memorabilia that honored Veterans for their service and sacrifices. It was a no brainer that it was meant to be we stopped in to eat. Highly recommend the Clam Chowder, Lobster Bisque, hot peel-and-eat shrimps and the Rockin Shrimp Appetizer! Impeccably delicious!
Dazs was amazing! He gave some great food recommendations & made our first time visiting the restaurant a great experience. I loved the scallops he recommended & my fiance loved his shrimp scampi. We will definitely be back when we’re back in town!
Went to the Whales Rib today. Live in Coral Springs and haven't been in that area for a while. Glad we stopped and had lunch. Had the fish dip, conch chowder, dolphin finger's cole slaw and my wife had clam strips with the Rib,'s waffle chips, which are home cooked and were still warm . Everything was delicious. What really impressed me that there were 2 managers on duty while we were there and each one of them stopped to make sure we were pleased with the meal. Lastly, our waitress Gayle was awesome.
Great place to have a seafood meal paired together with their specialty drink Bloody Mary with Shrimp ( mine was spicy as requested) . Tess was my server, great personality and very accommodating. I started with the Lobster Bisque, delicious and Caesar salad, then enjoyed the Seafood Combo…half stuffed lobster, scallops, oyster , dolphin with Whale Fries & tasty honey mustard sauce. Yum! Finished off with Key Lime Pie ! The owner even stopped by to ask if everything was ok! Fantastic Birthday meal. Thank you so much! Definitely plan on coming back!! PS: the parking attendant was very polite as well. A gem of a place !!
Our first visit here and was seated right away on a Saturday night. The ambiance is just a chill, comfortable place. We ordered: 1) Yellowfin Tuna Sandwich $15 - tuna was small, buns were huge; would probably be better off with chicken or bigger fish size to match the proportion 2) Snow crab legs with two sides $25 - 2 clusters and we got the baked potato and Caesar salad; good and simple 3) Dozen Steamed Clams $14 - 1/3 of them were sandy (** please don’t forget to soak them several more times **) aside from that, clams were good picks 3) Conch fritters included with whale fries $14 - thinly sliced fried potatoes were addicting and comes with a small side of whale juice, which is their homemade honey mustard. You normally wouldn’t hear someone say gimme that whale juice but ey… gimme a jug of that whale juice, please Food came out quick and service was amazing. I have to compliment this: Every single one of their staff were very efficient and consistently attentive to all the customers. I saw such great teamwork, it’s impressive. Great job guys and def recommend!
We stopped in for a quick drink and am appetizer (the onion rings were SCRUMPTIOUS!). Liz was it server at the bar and she was hustling! Amazing service. Probably best service of the whole weekend. We definitely recommended this place. Thank you Liz for making our stop it so memorable.
Fun kinda keyzee feel . Everything was excellent, dolphin sandwich, steamed clams , chowder and bisque absolutely amazing! Service was top notch . The only thing i didn’t enjoy as much was the rock shrimp. In the past i found it amazing this time i felt like it wasnt the same maybe not as fresh. But everything else was amazing. Still give it 5 star because everything was perfect, besides the rock shrimp. Stuffed baked shrimp was really good .
Wow wow wow! Great restaurant, staff are extremely well trained and well worth their tips! The GM (Rick maybe) made us feel extremely welcome in a busy restaurant. Loved all the food we ate! We ate plenty and the sea food was great, with the jumbo stone crab and lobster a key highlight. The Wale Fries are great too of course! Can’t recommend this place enough!!! It’s a must try!!
Four of us had lunch here today and it was amazing! Food is delicious and fresh. From the guy in the parking lot who did an amazing job organizing all the cars, to Ashley who took such good care of us, made great recommendations (especially the black beans and rice) and was an absolute delight, to Trevor, who checked in on us and made sure our dining experience was perfect...and it was! The whole team at this restaurant was top notch. You should be very proud. Thank you all!
Aimee is 1 of the best bartenders I've ever had in my LIFE! I WAS GREETED RIGHT AWAY! My drink was served RIGHT AWAY! She asked me if im hungry RIGHT AWAY! CLAUDIO the manager was SUPER COOL! Amanda the bartender was absolutely PERFECT! AS A high class waiter I HIGHLY recommend this place!
One of the best restaurants in the city, I almost don't want to give it a good review for fear of the wait times getting longer, but they deserve all the business they can get. The food is incredible, the wait staff are always kind and extremely helpful. I'd recommend this restaurant to anyone even remotely close to it. There is a reason Guy Fieri showcased the shop on his TV show. I'd recommend the clam strips and dolphin key West sandwich, but really the whole menu rocks.
A short walk away from the beach. Great food, good service. The rock shrimp are delicious if you've never had any. Just make sure you ask what size they are. The smaller they are, the harder they are to open and a little more work. The fish sandwich no matter what type of fish and blackened fried are grilled. All of them were delicious. Whether you're going by yourself. Or you're going with a group of friends. It's worth going!
Excelente el servicio y el sabor espectacular la sopa de Clam chowder esta muy buena y el pescado es fresco
Las mejores papas, el mejor sándwich de pastrami, la atención, TODO para repetir!!!! Graciassssss!!!! ❤️
Super friendly workers! We sat outside and enjoyed the atmosphere. My expectations we're quite high with regards to the food. However, I was a little disappointed as I did not think it was anything that's spectacular. We ordered the stuffed dolphin entree, the tilapia entree, and the children's hot dog. We all agreed that the hot dog with the whale fries was the best of the three meals.
Good chips in the fish and chips (not fries but homemade chips). The fish in the wrap was kinda overcooked though - think it was the blackened grouper. Honestly I would’ve given this a 3/5 but I liked the chips. Bloody Mary wasn’t great. It was missing a lot of spices. I’m really disappointed in that because it is described as “world famous”. It barely had any celery salt on the rim and it was watered down - looked light red instead of red. Def a dive good for a casual lunch. Cute divey sea themed decor.
My wife and I stopped here for dinner. We had the Peel and Eat Shrimp for an appetizer. I had the Blackened Mahi Mahi with homemade chips and my wife had the Lobster Salad Sandwich. The Peel and Eat Shrimp was excellent. The Blackened Mahi Mahi was good however the filet was too thin. My wife said the Lobster Salad Sandwich was just okay. Service was great.
Very cozy spot just steps from the beach. Great selection of seafood and regular pub food -- both deep fried and not. I enjoyed a tasty blackened mahi mahi sandwich, and their lobster salad sandwich was also a hit. But the star of the show is the Whale Fries that may look huge, but is easily cleared off. Service is super friendly, and prices are reasonable. Would not hesitate to return.
Un gran Lugar, me encantó, buena atención, los calamares con las papas una delicia. A great place, I loved it, good service, the calamari with the potatoes a delight.
Excelente restaurante. Muy buena atención, cerca de la playa. Tiene estacionamiento propio.
Los lugares americanos generalmente televisores, hamburguesas. Da la sensación de estar en key West. Las placas dan nostalgia
Unfortunately my favorite for all our family and friends here for 30+ years has gone down hill big time. From the moment we sat at our famous wooden bench seating/booth we are greeted with the nasty French’s (disgusting) ketchup bottle on the table …realized the Rib has begun to cheapen out and cut corners. Oh boy. The wahoo fish sandwich was equivalent to a catchers glove - frozen dry and awful. I gave it a shot normally getting my mahi or dolphin sandwich which my son had and was great. Dolphin fingers appetizer was good on the fish however there signature “Whale fries” that come with this basket of normal goodness, was disappointing as those whale fries which are like sliced potatoes were soggy stale tasting and tasted like plastic, and were cold - almost like eating plastic artificial food, clearly not the same potato and some different type of funky oil… ? Not good and clearly a big changes made. Again, no Heinz Ketchup to make it even worse not available to even attempt to experience these well fries like I used to dip with The service was very good (Jessica)… fast friendly ; the manager Chase was also awesome, and apologized explained all the changes they’ve had since moving to a new distributor/order guide . Just way too many food changes….place was fairly empty - Flanigans next door was packed. Their Signature “whale juice” (honey mustard) fortunately was the same for now though given out sparingly to save $ of course. This once exciting beach legend destination was a very disappointing food experience and not worth it for the $59 ($72 including a tip) wed eve dinner for 2 - no drinks or dessert. Bummer.
We went here twice during our stay. The first time we both had the grilled grouper wrap. It was overcooked and really bland. The beans and rice and coleslaw were good. We shared the whale fries (homemade potato chips), and they are fantastic! Today we had a grilled chicken wrap and blackened mahi mahi wrap. Again, both overcooked and bland. The service was great during both visits. This used to be one of our favorite spots in Deerfield Beach, but we probably won’t be back.
Been going to the Whale's Rib for over 20 years. The staff is hands-down amazing from the parking support personnel to the wait staff. When we walked in tonight to our table, there were so many people in the front room, plus the Christmas decorations and the super loud and awfully teenybopper music and football in the screens - there were 1000 points of clutter and none were in synch. The vibe was completely off and overwhelming Plus with so many people stuffed into that front room it was hot and congested. The service and the food were great, but the vibe has changed. They were playing 15 year-old pop music for little girls in a place that's filled with license plates, fishing memorabilia and rustic signs. It might be me, but I just didn't dig it. My family agreed that of all the times we've been there. This was kind of the worst experience and we might take a break or not return. Sad for one of our classic favorite family places of all times.
I was really looking forward to trying The Whale's Rib, but I was actually left quite disappointed. Let me start off by saying, the staff here is stellar. From the waiters to the employee running the parking lot, everyone was super friendly and lovely. The main problem lies with the food and the beverages which are the main part of any restaurant going experience. We ordered the Blackened Shrimp, Rock Shrimp, the Whale Fries, the Rockefeller Oysters, and the Grouper Wrap. To begin with, the Whale Fries are nothing special at all, they're just simply potato chips and pretty mid ones at that. Both shrimp dishes lacked any substance and the portion sizes were quite small considering the prices here. The Grouper Wrap was probably the best thing we had, but again, it wasn't anything spectacular - it was just alright. There are many better spots that offer fresh seafood in the area where the food has way more flavor, is much more presentable, and overall better use of your money. Even the Bloody Mary here was very lacking - it was just straight tomato juice and ice; it lacked any alcohol, nice garnishing, and quality. I would best describe The Whale's Rib as a privately owned Bubba Gump. The decor inside is pretty cool, so it has that going for it. I feel like this spot is extremely overhyped.
I do want to say that the price for what you get is extremely good. The decor was cute in a tourist destination kind of way. Our server, Melissa, was very helpful and did an excellent job. That being said, the food itself left a lot to be desired. I went with a group of friends so we all had to try each other's dishes and the only thing any of us even liked were the crab cakes which were actually delicious. The conch fritters were more like mushy, bland hushpuppies, the fried clams were hard and flavorless, the whale fries were soggy and unsalted, the chicken sandwich was more lettuce than chicken, and the chicken was bland and you could tell it was frozen. The dolphin key west sandwich was ok at best. Again, way more condiment than than fish though.
The food was ok. The service was alright. Unfortunately, the server stated she could not change any sides, not even for an additional charge. Hmm, as a server with a computer, you have that option to enter anything that you need. ( I know). But if that’s the policy I’d suggest that you change it to acquire more customers. Food was nothing special. Bread was burnt. Sides were minimal. This seemed to be more of a bar type food. For the area , the atmosphere needs improvement. People were friendly.
Sad this place has gone down hill. Rock shrimp were tiny. Fish was overcooked and not fresh, fries were raw. It was a complete miss. Hope they can figure it out. Management was unbothered.
Same atmosphere, service was fine, food was not what it used to be. I've been eating here since the early 90's and always loved the whale fries and the sandwiches. I would get the turkey or the dolphin key west. Now, the quality isn't the same. The whale fries were the absolute biggest disappointment. At one time they were whole sliced potatoes like homemade chips, and some were crunchy, some were still bendable(softer). Last time I went, they were thin crunchy broken chips, no where near the same. Not sure if I got the bottom of a bag, but even the texture was thin salty and lame. Not what it use to be. Everyone said that once the tv show covered them that they just went down the tubes. I drove from Jupiter to Deerfield for an errand.with the purpose of stopping in and getting a bite to eat. I can say I may not bother going back, certainly not worth the drive. Its too bad. For years this was a favorite.
Unfortunately, my wife and I had a horrifying experience at this restaurant. The service was poor. Our server was a lady, and she was lost, confused, and really nervous. It took a while to get out drinks. Then the food came, I've ordered the 'Wahoo fingers' that came with whale fries. Everything was swimming in oil, I took a single bite and could feel the oil dripping. The fries were right under the fried fish, and they were saggy because of the oil excess. I couldn't eat my food. My wife ordered the lobster salad sandwich. She said it had no flavor, and after the third bite, she started feeling stomach sick. We had to leave the place right away and when we got home she was very ill. I almost took her to the hospital, but we were able to make with over the counter medication. So, never again going to this place.
Whale’s Rib – Disappointing Experience Due Entirely to Management Our family had one of the worst restaurant experiences we’ve ever encountered, and unfortunately it was driven almost entirely by the manager, Joe. Our first interaction with Joe, “manager”, was when I tried to inform him about a serious situation in the parking lot: a customer backing into another car and then driving away, while the parking attendant actively tried to avoid dealing with it. Rather than taking the information seriously or showing any concern, Joe acted dismissive and made it very clear that I was a nuisance for even bringing it to his attention. It was troubling to see a manager show such indifference to a potential hit-and-run occurring right outside the restaurant. Things only went downhill from there. We were quoted a 30-minute wait, which turned into over an hour. During that time, we noticed multiple outdoor tables sitting empty. When we politely asked if we could be seated outside, Joe came over and immediately escalated the situation. He raised his voice, spoke to my wife and mother-in-law with open sarcasm, and treated us as if we were being unreasonable for simply asking a question. The conversation that followed was, without exaggeration, one of the worst interactions I’ve ever had with a manager. It took nearly five uncomfortable minutes of condescension and attitude before we were finally seated — not because Joe handled it well, but because we endured his behavior long enough to get there. At that point, the damage was done. A restaurant experience is about more than food, and when management behaves this way, it overshadows everything else. As long as Joe is employed as manager, I will be avoiding this place entirely and making sure friends and family know about the treatment we received. No customer — especially families — should be spoken to or dismissed the way we were.
Disappointing 😢. Frozen fish. All our grilled fish dishes( grouper, wahoo and salmon) came out dry and hard. Not edible. One person returned and asked for another and it was the same. The chips and rock shrimp and service was good. Too bad because we were all looking forward to it based on passed years of friends recommendations.
My husband's yellowfin tuna was delicious tonight I ordered the chicken the role was like trenched the liquid from the pineapple or ham don't know the chicken was so so thick I could not even it it. Won't be going back there. But my waitress Ashley was a sweetheart
Seemed nice and priced right then turned out not great. Waited a long time for Takeout Order . Disappointed. Mahi very "fishy." Definitely not fresh! Mahi should never taste fishy ! It was as fishy as old trout. You're definitely was MSG in the food because I am allergic to MSG and I started to have a mild familiar reaction. Bread was dark like German bread ok ...Asked for butter and tartar . wasn't in the bag....then as I decided to risk eating it ....Broccoli had spoiled mold ! Butter as a melted tasteless tub of grease next to the fish I asked for butter on the side, real butter Idk....they acted like I was asking for too much. I was over charged told they'd throw in a side charged for it and rotten. Obviously chose the wrong restaurant kicking myself for not going next door.... this was a rare one time occasion .....(rarely if at all) treat myself) .. waitress disappeared and seemed a bit tipsy not to happy about this mess .Miss the old days of fresh made. Pray I don't get food poisoning sick! Small are the chance of getting refund...I bet tomorrow I will call and complain and ask for a refund. Moment of treating myself to a sandwich was kind of special. Yes my stomach not feeling too hot after a few bites ...don't recommend this place at all ...go elsewhere until they clean up the kitchen.
Skip it. A Thursday at 11 am had bar top seat. 1 other customer and it was the bar ladies friend. More important to discuss the lives they were leading rather than the customer. Went down the street to Lucky Lou’s and had drink and food order in super quick.
