We walked into this restaurant on our rainy Saturday afternoon to be greeted by warmth, friendliness, and a very homey atmosphere. Kim quickly allowed us to choose a table, proceeded to serve drinks and make a very honest and bold recommendation. When asked, what's the best thing on the menu? She said, if you close your eyes and point anything to the menu, you'll land on a winner. Well, she wasn't wrong! The three of us all had something different and everything was very tasty. We started off with the smoothest baba ghanoush I've ever had in my life! It was dotted with a beautiful olive in the middle. The presentation was comparable to a lot of high end restaurants, but with Mom and pop prices. We started with a greek salad and then I enjoyed the Chicken Scalappine and it was light, but satisfying. After finishing off with some baklava, I perused the market items and found some "hard to find ingredients" for a Persian dish that I would like to make. Although we were the only ones when we arrived, by the time we left two other tables had parties seated. Made me realize that I was late to the party on this hidden gem in Denton! I would definitely recommend checking them out.

Green Zatar is truly a gem! The food was absolutely amazing, and you can really feel the love and care in everything they serve. It’s a lovely family-run business, and the hospitality makes the experience even more special. The atmosphere is incredibly cozy and charming, beautifully decorated with so many Middle Eastern and Persian touches that make you feel right at home. I tried the Bakhtiari and the gyro — both were among the highest quality I’ve ever had in the U.S. The flavors were authentic, perfectly balanced, and unforgettable. Highly recommend whether you’re a local or just visiting Dallas. This place is a must-try!

Popped in for a bite to eat on my way somewhere and had a very nice experience here. I'm a vegetarian so I ordered the Vegan Vendura. The veggies and rice were cooked to perfection & the seasoning made me smile. It came with a non-vegan sauce on the side and the waitress warned me in case I was vegan. However, it was yummy as well and enhanced the food even more. The Persian iced tea was also very nice! You should check out out!

Food was amazing. My only request is that the portion of vegetables is slim to none but a ton of rice. I’d love to see them provide more vegetables with the chicken kebab entree.

Delicious food and beautiful quaint restaurant. Perfect for a family outing, date night, meeting up with a friend, or a work gathering. The owners work incredibly hard and their dedication shows. They are the nicest family you could ever meet. They really treat you like family when you are there. It’s a privilege to have this gem in Denton!

Family owned and operated by the sweetest couple. A rare owner/chef, wife/waitress combo. It’s a path for survival for them while creating a memorable experience for the lucky customer. Family recipes bring generational Persian flavors.

Green Zatar Mediterranean Restaurant in Denton, TX is an absolute gem! From the warm welcome and attentive service to the cozy, inviting atmosphere, everything feels authentic and full of heart. The food is simply outstanding — fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented, with standouts like creamy hummus, crisp falafel, and perfectly seasoned entrées. Every bite tastes homemade with love, and the generous portions make it even better. A beloved spot in the community, it has been a favorite dining place for foreign students at UNT University since 1995. This isn’t just a meal, it’s a wonderful dining experience that I can’t recommend enough!

Green Zatar is our favorite restaurant. We drive 30 minutes to eat the some of the best food we have ever eaten and to say hello to the nicest family who owns it. Our favorite is chicken souvlaki and hummus. Ali always comes out to ask if everything tastes good. The atmosphere is so nice and calming. We absolutely love it!!

Heard about this place by a few Denton natives and had to try it! Food was phenomenal and the service was amazing. The Spana Kopita and Baba Ghanoush were delicious but the chicken biryani was THE BEST! It was so tender and flavorful! I will definitely be back!

Used to visit this place when I was a student at UNT 1997-2000. It used to be called International Foods then. Went back last week after 20+ years with my family and the food was as good as it was 20+ years ago. Even the owner who i used see in college days was still there albiet with a beautiful and graceful white beard now 🙂. Excellent food and friendly service. Clean and family friendly. Chicken souvlaki is my favorite and the falafels were one of the best i've had.

Found this little gem by luck. I wanted some good Mediterranean food and everywhere I looked, Green Zatar kept popping up. It did not disappoint! First of all, I loved the decorations to this place. It was quiet, cozy, and very inviting. Customer service was excellent, food was filling and full of flavor. Pricing was good for their generous portions. A special thank you to Nadia who went above and beyond with her customer service. Thank you for your recommendations! Hope to come back soon!

They make the most delicious kebabs you can eat in Dallas. It's a very clean restaurant. I loved the taste of the food.

Just pure perfection. When you walk in, you’ll be amazed by the beautiful art on the walls and the grocery’s so evenly and perfectly placed. This impressed me from the get go. Then whenever I was sat by the very nice host who was also our waitress. It was such a pleasant greeting. Then we order the Zatar (DUH) and a chicken sandwich. Both were absolutely delicious and filled us since we weren’t too hungry. I got a Mediterranean Coffee which was so rich and bold and delicious, they gave me the cutest creamer. The owner also walked around and asked how everything tasted which is SOO considerate. Just had a blast. GO HERE! You won’t regret it!

Incredibly nice people! Wonderful atmosphere, they were willing to share their story about the immigration experience and how their children are doing :) Oh and the food is A tier.

Very sweet, homey mom and pop type place. My expectations were exceeded with the quality of the food. Will definitely be back. Presentation was ok, but then as soon as you tasted the food, it was like wow…this is so good. The vegetarian platter was excellent. They also make a great tzatziki sauce! A byob spot

Delicious food in a friendly atmosphere. The vegetarian sampler plate featured homemade dolmas. The Persian tea was excellent. They also have a small area to buy specialty foods, including a black cardamon tea. The restroom is not easy to find. Ask a server to guide you through the kitchen.

The restaurant has a nice ambience, and the food was very tasty. We tried the Chicken Biryana and Chicken Souvlaki. My only criticism would be that I thought it was quite pricy for the amount of food received, compared to other larger restaurants. This is a mom and pop shop type of restaurant, so I would imagine it is more difficult for them to absorb the rising prices of meat.

i’ve always wanted to try this place out, and finally got to. i got the shish kabab and dolma for takeout. i didn’t ask for the price when i ordered, neither was it told to me on the phone. it is also not on their website. but i didn’t think much of it until i was about to pay. $40 for shish kabab was definitely unexpected. the food was delicious though. the meat was good quality, the dolma was actually really good and not too sour like some places make them. it’s not a bad spot and what i can only presume are the owners are an older couple who seem to have been here forever. very friendly too. price wise, it’s not the value that i expect, but the food is good.

Seafood Mahi Polo Seasoned tilapia sauteed with bell pepper, mushroom and onion. It was good! Seasoned just right and not salty at all. The falafel was cooked to perfection! Fried just right to where it was soft too. I've been to other places and their falafel was hard as a rock. The Spana Kopita – Baked Puff Pastry stuffed with Spinach, Feta Cheese & Spices was good too. Definitely will be back! The owners are vers nice and sweet. Good customer service. If y'all haven't tried them you definitely are missing out on good food! 😋

The food was very delicious, fresh, and well prepared. The set up of the restaurant and the atmosphere was wonderful. Our waitress was nice but seemed to be in a rush to hang out on her phone 😅. Overall we enjoyed our experience at this restaurant. We thought the entree prices were a bit steep for what we were getting compared to other local Mediterranean restaurants. 😊

We ordered 2 sandwiches, a side of falafel and an ice tea. The bill was $43 plus tip. Definitely wasn't the worst greek food I've had but was nowhere near worth that price. Service was provided by the owner/manager and was fair for a light lunch crowd.
