Malombra Dongo Reviews
Following our usual approach of choosing restaurants away from crowded tourist areas, we discovered this gem. The chef personally attended us, and with only one other table occupied, the service was very attentive. He was friendly and considerate, suggesting we order only a few dishes instead of many. While he could have encouraged us to order more, he opted for a fair and thoughtful approach, which we appreciated. The flavors, cozy atmosphere, and careful service all felt authentic and homemade. While we’re not experts in Italian cuisine, everything tasted genuine and well-prepared. We highly recommend this place!
I loved this restaurant, it is super cozy, the owner provides such an amazing service, it made us feel like home and the food was absolutely delicious. We will be back soon! Grazie mille!!
The food was sooo special and delicious, everything fresh and homemade. Also the service was perfect, Piermario is a very very warm hearted and friendly person, as well is his team. Thank you so much! Hope to see you again soon!
This is a perfect place to experience local cuisine, cooked by someone who is passionate about cooking and local produce! Very friendly host and staff! The dishes we tried were delicious. The veranda has amazing views too!
Great hospitality, very special and excellent dishes Owner proud of his cuisine and enjoys explaining of them. Real enjoyable experience
Passionate chef, delicious fresh food and such a nice atmosphere. We were welcomed with open arms and got a wonderful menu - even vegetarian. Thank you so much!
At the ending of my long Italy trip we had dinner here. We had a menu of freshly cooked delicious dishes. It was fantastic and a great experience. Mario is a cook as how you’d wish for. He and his team do a wonderful job. I can totally recommend his restaurant and hope he will find many clients in the coming years!!
It was the perfect experience. We had a special dinner to celebrate the wedding of my sister. The evening was filled with incredible dishes and a lot of different flavors. The owner Mario was so incredibly proud to present us his food and it filled us with so much joy to watch him talk about his passion. In one sentence, it was the perfect evening with perfect food and the most lovable cook. I would have given 6 stars if possible.
This restaurant served really tasty, authentic Italian food - which was very different to the usual pasta and pizza you see everywhere. The owner gave us plenty of attention and was happy to explain each of the dishes we wanted to order. Just to mention, the service was slow but that was perfect for us as it gave us time to digest our food properly before the next course. For dessert they recommended a lemon and basil ice cream which was so unique but really tasty!
We had great food, risotto with asparagus, carpaccio with parmesan and almonds as starters and main course whitefish with potatoes and strawberries for dessert ... all delicious. Only the serpentine drive takes a while - but it's worth it.
The best food I’ve been eating in a very long time (and I work as a chef). For me this restaurant feels like coming home. The artichoke salad with carpaccio was incredible, we ate it two days in a row. Mario, the chef, sat down and told us the menu of the day which I really appreciated. He made a lovely meal for our daughter and it was a very welcoming place for her, there is a swing in the garden etc. If I could I would go here every week. Don’t wait, go here today! Thank you!!
Best meal we had in all of Lombardy. Chef/owner is present and passionate about his food. Truly local and absolutely delicious. Stunning views, extremely low key atmosphere. Away from the crowds. Go here!
We were extremely fortunate to discover Il Malombra on our trip to Italy + Switzerland. Each dish was crafted with such painstaking thought, subtlety, and care. No two dishes were alike in flavor palette; all were delicious. Our favorites were the minestrone, fried fish, and affogato. If that weren't enough, the owner and chef, Mario, is absolutely delightful. He was gracious to accommodate our large party size at a relatively late hour, and was not daunted by the large quantity of dishes we ordered. Mario would personally explain the story behind each dish as it was served — down to the choice of a particular herb or vegetable (or fourteen vegetables, as it turned out for minestrone) — with such evident culinary artistry that we felt as if we were in a Michelin star restaurant. Be aware that it can take a while for dishes to arrive, and that is good and expected — Mario is crafting each dish as you wait. Prices are extremely reasonable. Don't be sad that you missed this!
This charming restaurant on the mountain offers not only stunning views but also an unforgettable dining experience. The tuna steak was absolutely incredible, and I had the chance to try a non-alcoholic gin and tonic that was unlike anything I've ever had before. The desserts were just as impressive—the lemon tart was hands down the best I've ever tasted. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, and the service is outstanding. The chef even came out personally to share the story behind each dish, which added a special touch to the evening. An amazing place, I highly recommend it!
This was one of our favorite experiences on our entire trip in Italy. Mario, the chef/owner extraordinaire, is extremely knowledgeable and talented when it comes to food and people. He took the time to tell us about each dish, how it’s made and where the ingredients came from. Theres no paper menu here! He cooked what’s in season and what he has readily available. It was so fresh, so delicious and so reasonably priced. It’s is a jem you will not want to miss!
We dined here twice in two days. Food, hospitality and location are sublime. Chef cooks with mostly local ingredients and tries differents kinds of dishes. We were blown away by the quality of the food and friendliness of the chef. It’s a great combination to do a hike in the area with a lunch and diner here. Thank you for the special moments ❤️.
