Dimitri's on the Lake Dunkirk Reviews
We booked the banquet space and menu for my sister's funeral reception. The staff was welcoming, respectful, and responsive to all our needs. I was very pleased with the service and would highly recommend this banquet facility.
Loved dinner at Demetri's On the Lake. No wait for a table on the deck, and we only saw three bees / yellow jackets despite the heads up from our hostess. Mackenzie took care of our drinks right away and gave us time to peruse the ample menu and daily specials. That of course compelled me to go overboard with food, but I loved every bit of it. Started with their loaded potato soup, then had the Wednesday Wings Special, ten for $5.00. (You MUST order wings when you're this close to Buffalo. It's written into the New York State constitution. Look it up.) My son beat me to the punch ordering the Buffalo Tator Tots, but that didn't stop me from getting my own. The menu has TONS of options, especially if you like Greek food like souvlaki and moussaka. I was tempted, but opted for the fried scallops, which tasted even better looking out over Lake Erie. My son had the Texan Burger with Onion Rings, BBQ sauce, tomatoes and lettuce. My wife and daughter are less adventurous and went with very generous helpings of chicken fingers and fries, but we all walked away with leftovers for tomorrow. It was just what the doctor ordered after a 7 1/2 hour drive with sporadic torrential downpours. Now, I'm going to drift into a food coma and dream of hot wings and sticky fingertips while the Mets spank the Braves in Atlanta.
Everything we've eaten there has been great! No complaints at all. There is a wait for your food at busier times, however the wait is worth it! It is a little more difficult when we bring our grandkids but we were able to occupy them by letting them go out onto the deck to look at the boats on the lake.
First off, what an opportunity it is to run a restaurant in such a prime location. Dunkirk doesn’t have a lot, but it does have the pier—and that alone raises the bar. Frankly, Dunkirk deserves better. The food was mediocre at best—nothing I’d be excited to share or recommend to a friend. On a more positive note, the service was good; the staff were attentive and kind. Unfortunately, the atmosphere left much to be desired. The décor and lighting felt straight out of the 1990s, with a tired and outdated look. Entering the restaurant from the street, we had to walk past the kitchen—and frankly, the smell was unpleasant. It was an instant turn-off. I understand how difficult it is to run a restaurant, especially these days. But maybe this just isn’t the right team for such a valuable space. The expectation for excellence at this location is high—and rightfully so. Please, do better.
Unfortunately this is some of the worst food I've had at a restaurant (besides the fries which were amazing). The patio is nice but while you can see the lake at the end, most diners are surrounded by parking lots and motor oil smell from the cars and boats. They were out of several of the dishes I wanted to order and the ones we did finally get were just loaded with cheese and had little flavor. We also saw a server-in-training being talked down to by the server training them.
The food is served in large portions at reasonable prices. I went on a busy Sunday during the lunch hour and received the experience that I expected; full dining room, timely service, good food. One thing that makes this restaurant stand out is the fact that if sitting at a window seat, you can look out at the pier/lake Erie while you eat. A very pleasant dining experience. After finishing my roast beef sandwich I left feeling full and satisfied.
This was quite disappointing. We got here at 5:40 we waited 10 mins before drink orders, there were only two other occupied tables with a combination of 6 other patrons in the restaurant. We didn't get food before 7:10! We had to request refills. The appetizer was soggy because of the grape leaves juice. Food was passable. The hamburgers were way overcooked and chewy. The tadziki sauce looked like they repacked someone's used container. The place is in disrepair and disorganized. We were driving thru and didn't see anything else open for a while when we looked it up. So we tried it. We would have been better off with fast food. Service was non-existent. $90 for a family of 4...no thank you. Growing up in a Greek area in Michigan, this was nothing of quality.
Ordered chicken finger sub for my nephew. See attached photo: the chicken was raw. That's dangerous, irresponsible, and utterly unacceptable. Imagine biting into that before discovering the fact that this was breaded raw chicken. When called the person who answered the phone stated that since it was through door dash that he couldn't do anything about it. Unacceptable and will never go there again. But future consumers be wary and at least check your food before taking your first bite. Who knows what you'll be getting...
Made an order fried chicken and order of chicken tenders. Took bite from fried chicken and a long gray hair was cooked into the breading. Will call to talk to manager. Received call from Shirley about 30 minutes later. She was very rude to me on the phone and was very upset about me posting review. I told her I would speak to Jamie tomorrow because I didn’t like the way she was speaking to me. She claimed she was the owner and Jamie was not. Won’t be returning if this is how they interacted with paying customers.
I know it’s the 4th of July and staff would prefer not to be working; I get it. But, when the staff groups together at the counter and just complaining about the customers. It’s unacceptable. This place had sub-par food with my Greek Salad being wilted lettuce and the gyro just burnt to a crisp. Sent it back and didn’t reorder. Yuck. Other members of our party had dried out pasta like they it had been heated up in a microwave. The building is falling apart and the restrooms are like walking into a truck stop with urine all over the seats (the smell - gross). The outdoor tables being held up by napkins. It’s a great location downtown, but the owners need to take a hard look into their business. Don’t go here - unless you prefer a bad experience.
We were passing through and stopped for dinner, a party of 4. First off, the salads came with the meals. The roast beef was salty and was like slices you buy in a deli. The mashed potatoes were big chunks in the form of paste the vegetables were hard, the steak was dry and over cooked. The server asked if I wanted a box and I told her no, and I didn't like it. She never offered anything else or to speak to a manager. I went to pay, and asked about getting something off my meal because I didn't eat much of it. The girl got the manager and she did nothing to make it right, not even an apology. She said she sold the same roast beef to 20 other ladies and they loved it. Well those ladies were either family or paid to say that because it was nasty. The bill was $93 and because I had to pick something up to eat somewhere else. I didn't tip. The manager was worse than the server and didnt care about our bad experience. I wouldn't go back there again if you paid me. Save yourself the hassle and go someplace else. I wouldn't be surprised if they go out of business.
Long wait to be seated, not greeted. Family in front left shortly after we arrived. So not sure how long they were waiting. Hardly any people there. Waitress was nice but seemed rushed. Got our drinks and waited and waited to put in out order. Waited close to 45 mins before our very simple food came out. All of us were out of drinks. Food tasted fine. Wished it didnt take so long and no one checked in. Old decor and sticky looking place. Beautiful spot by the lake but just very outdated.
