Little Capo Edinburgh Reviews
It is Italian styled, but do not think straightforward pasta pizza etc etc. There are some gorgeous dishes, inventive, beautifully prepared and presented (eg sea bream crostini was exquisite). Staff incredibly friendly but really "on it" and decor & vibe perfect. Finally, wonderfully curated cocktail & drinks menu (again, roots in Italy but not as you'd know it). Top class, but really inclusive & friendly vibe.
We came for a special-occasion meal and everything was superb, from start to finish. The service was warm, knowledgeable, welcoming and efficient. We had olive martinis (delicious!), ham hock crostini, burrata with figs, steak, cioppino with hake, king oyster mushrooms with Jerusalem artichoke, plus desserts and a particularly delicious Italian dessert wine recommended by the bartender. Everything was wonderful and you could tell that careful attention had been paid to the flavours of every drop and bite. They've even mixed the music so that it's a fun backdrop but doesn't overwhelm your conversations at the table - amazing attention to detail! Now to come back and try more things on the menu!
One of the best and warmly received restaurants I’ve ever been to. Booked weeks in advance for my husband’s 30th birthday and so glad I did, they didn’t fail to make it special with complimentary champs 🥂 and were very attentive. We had a late booking 21:15 and I was concerned as it says it shuts at 21:30 but we stayed beyond 11pm (the last to leave!) as it was so welcoming and we were having a good chat with the staff. I LOVED the fact that they write down their recommendations for the area, too! We sat up at the bar after our delicious food and got chatting to the bartender and he made us a drink off the menu as per our request - very talented and evidently passionate about what he does - a rarity these days! Big shoutout to Ellen, Jordie(?) and the lovely bartender who’s name I didn’t get - people like this make a restaurant what it is!
Went there on Saturday night with my partner. From the minute we walked in the door we were made to feel welcome, our server was brilliant - didn’t catch her name but she was Australian and so lovely! The food was incredible, my favourite was the steak and my partner loved the cabbage. Would recommend to anyone looking for an intimate dining experience with incredible servers and unbelievable food. We will be back!
Had a lovely lunch for my mums birthday, the calamari and focaccia was amazing, the ciopino was very fresh, and the sausage pasta was also good. The service was really amazing, our waiter was so lovely! We were sadly too full for dessert, so our waiter brought a dessert spoon of the tiramisu for us which was so thoughtful.
I don’t usually leave reviews. But this was the most incredible meal, so I had to. Everything we got was immaculate - we got the burrata, the seafood soup, king oyster mushroom, the ragu, and charred cabbage. We didn’t know cabbage could be so flavorful. But the real highlight of this restaurant was the staff. Service was beyond stellar, all of the staff were so attentive, hospitable, and gracious. I accidentally forgot to mention no pistachios when ordering the burrata, and one of the staff overheard and very kindly immediately made us a new one, despite how this was my fault. They noticed we were trying to cut the cabbage with our forks and gave us a knife without us asking. This is the kind of place that anticipates your needs and goes above and beyond. 10/10 in food, ambiance, and service. I have no notes. Everyone needs to try this place at least once.
Had heard good things about here, would say booking advised. A lovely wee place with chilled music. We sat at the bar a tight squeeze but not important. The staff give great service welcoming and knowledgeable we spoke with a guy from Sydney originally, explained options available and recommendations. The calamari was cooked perfectly light with a rich dressing on the side .do feel needed a bit more seasoning but still tasty. My favourite was the steak cooked perfectly seasoned really well with a rocket and parmigiano salad. We have greens and potatoes on the side. Always difficult to find a perfectly cooked steak in Edinburgh but here is finally we found it! Try a cheeky cocktail a great selection. gem of a place and can't wait to take family to try, lovee the italain twist which I know my italian family will like as not many in Edinburgh can do authentic tastes..
Went as a second dinner, so unfortunately didn't have the appetite to experiment more dishes. The burrata was to die for--most interesting explosion of flavors and textures in a single bite: a bit smoky, spicy and sweet from the burrata, fig, and pistachios. The zucchini fries are usually straightforward, but especially enjoyed the distinct crunch. Also ordered a version of their old fashioned and espresso martini, which were the least exciting part of this culinary experience. The wait is extremely long (close to two hours on a weekday evening) if you make the mistake of walking in like we did. But it was worth the wait. The host helped to accommodate by bringing us our drinks outside, and he did his best to squeeze us in at the bar.
Went for lunch this afternoon and was honestly amazed. The service was absolutely incredible - I have never received service like it. The food was outstanding and the atmosphere was pure vibes. We were also genuinely shocked at how inexpensive it was for how amazing it was. Most places would charge you through the nose. For reference: Starter - Olives & Focaccia to share Main - Steak x2 Side - Crispy Potato to share Dessert - Tiramisu and seasonal special Total - £74.25 with service charge (£66) without 10/10 - would recommend (p.s. make sure you get some tiramisu at the end - it’s unreal)
Gorgeous place for a date night or with a group of friends. I would say it's definitely more of an adult scene and wouldn't take my children. The ragu and tiramisu are the best I've ever had, the focaccia bread and olives are a perfect addition and I also enjoyed a margarita which was just the way I like it. It's booked out quickly as it's the trendy place to be, so make sure you book as soon as the slots open up.
Found this place online and it did not disappoint!! From the moment we walked in the door the staff was so warm and inviting and the hostess even said happy birthday to my husband! Our server was so sweet and helped us navigate the menu and our order. The food was delicious. Everything from the sea bream crostini to the Gnocchetti with sausage was scrumptious! The space is cozy and charming too. We loved it here!!
This little place is adorable and definitely worth a visit . Food is excellent and all freshly made , with wines to go with each dish if desired. We opted for lunch at the bar which was very entertaining. Cocktails are very well thought out and staff are so helpful when choosing them 👏👏👏🥰
Me and my partner had an amazing time at Little Capo on Saturday night. We were immediately greeted and sat at a lovely spot on the bar. The service was honestly a 10/10; all the staff were so nice and attentive. The food was great. My steak cut so easily and was juicy and delicious, and my partners gnochetti was nice and flavourful. One member of staff gave us some good recommendations as we were going to Leith the next day. If we come back to Edinburgh, we will definitely return to Little Capo!
I’ve been meaning to visit for ages, so gland I finally found time! The food was great! Courgette fritters are a must! We also had some freshly opened Parmesan which was delicious along side my Pickly Martini. Finished with mushroom risotto for main which was perfect, on a salty side, but that’s how I personally like it. Sadly we don’t have space for a desert. The service was so friendly and warm, the interior is cool and stylish but also very comfy. We will defo go back.
a cozy and delicious find in edinburgh, just down the way from prince’s street. although we didn’t have a booking, we managed to secure a spot after waiting for about an hour (where they called and let us know to pop in!) so it wasn’t too bad. the food was delicious, especially that seabream starter. staff were attentive and friendly; they caught us googling ingredients and decided to step in whoops. overall, very cute date night spot in the heart of edinburgh city centre. would recommend
what a great place! admittedly we didn’t make a reservation but after a little wait they were able to accommodate my dad and me as walk-ins. the food was really quite phenomenal. we both had pasta dishes but somehow i only have pictures of dessert. i’m a huge fan of tiramisu and little capo’s was delicious! the lime cake quite nice as well.
Loved everything about Capo, from the building and the aesthetic to the handwritten menu. It is such a charming spot that really hits all the right notes. Reservations are essential, and I would say it is best for pasta lovers since most of the dishes are pasta based. There are plenty of vegetarian options, though it is more limited if you are lactose intolerant or pescatarian. The pea and leek risotto was a standout, and the Lunbroacos from Solco were incredible. Our friends raved about the martinis, and my partner really enjoyed the steak. All in all, a fantastic experience and well worth a visit. I highly recommend.
Absolutely delicious and unforgettable risotto, wide selection of wines and incredible desserts. Congrats to all the welcoming and attentive staff !
Absolutely loved the atmosphere! Warm, welcoming, and full of charm. We walked in during a busy afternoon yet fortunately managed to get a table, thanks to the lovely lady who attended to us. The food was incredibly delicious, the drinks were spot on, and the service was fantastic. Highly recommend it, and I can’t wait to visit again!
Had a lovely experience at Little Capo! The food was absolutely excellent—fresh, flavorful, and clearly made with care. Their drinks were just as impressive, especially the cocktails. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, perfect for a relaxed evening out. If I had to nitpick, I’d say the selection of meat dishes was a little limited, but everything else more than made up for it.
Had the calamari fries for appetizer, and risotto, pappardelle, and cioppino as mains. Definitely recommend the cioppino as the cod fish was super soft, and the tomato bisque was perfect to dip the focaccia into. Also loved the calamari fries (especially the salsa verde dip), which was seasoned perfectly with the crispy outside and chewy inside. Got the lemon and pistachio cake (cake of the day), which was a great finish. It tasted like a lemon+banana cake, though the pistachio taste was not as strong. I went on a Monday evening (8:30pm) and the restaurant was very very busy. The staff were helpful and friendly despite the rush. The lady who served us was super considerate and helpful with the drinks recommendation.
This little copa is little heaven. We sat at the bar and Robbie served us. He was great. Started zucchini frites. Batter just perfect and light. Tomatoe salad was delicious. Fried polenta and seafood bisque was so full of flavor- I feel that this would be a consistently good restaurant that would never disappoint.
AMAZING (!!!) food, I highly recommend this place (if you can get a seat)! The olives were a gorgeous start to the night, followed by delicious focaccia and burrata (the beetroot is nothing but perfection too). Pastas and desserts were, of course, brilliant. Great ambience and staff were all lovely
We finally found our favorite Italian restaurant in Edinburgh! From starter to dessert, everything was absolutely brilliant. Highly recommend the ox cheek pasta and tiramisu—they’re incredibly delicious. On top of that, the staff are friendly, making the experience even better. We’ve already rebooked a table for our next visit. We are looking forward to tasting other dishes.
I came here specifically for the tiramisu (my friend totally convinced me to try it 😂). It was quite crowded when I arrived, so I’d recommend making a reservation if you’re coming with a group. Since I came alone, I easily grabbed a seat at the bar. And once I tried the tiramisu it was seriously amazing! The cocktail was great too. I have a feeling the food must be good as well, so I’ll definitely come back to try it next time
Booked a table for friday lunch & we had an amazing experience! All the food we ordered was delicious, especially the olives & ceaser salad. The staff were also extremely friendly & helpful. We will definitely return if ever in the city again!
Had been wanting to come and eat here for ages and finally got it booked for my birthday. From the get go my partner and I loved it. The atmosphere was so cozy and welcoming with a great vibe. Service was fantastic (specific mention for Naomi whose personal touches made my birthday dinner that much more memorable, thank you) and so on top of things. Don’t even get me started on the food! The focaccia? To die for. I recommend everyone get it! We loved everything on the menu, both ready to come back and try the rest! Cocktails? Such a selection. I was lucky enough to have the Bellini and oh my god it’s my new favourite cocktail. Overall, fantastic. In every way. Thank you so much to all the staff front of house and back; our night was perfect🫶🏻
Beautiful & cosy place. Robbie was really nice and the service was fast. Let's talk about the food now : one of the best italian meal I've ever tasted (and I'm going to Italy a lot as well) - starter was "simple" but delicious, and the papardelle were absolutely amazing. Also, the price is totally correct, especially for the good cocktails. Highly recommended !
What a little gem! Was recommended this Italian and it didn’t disappoint! I’d also seen an influencer on instagram visit so I was excited to try! We sat at the bar which was lovely, we ordered pretty much every starter and a couple of mains. Each dish was just fantastic! I couldn’t even pick a favourite but the buratta starter and the zucchini fries were 🤌🏼 staff were all so friendly and accommodating too! Would highly recommend and will be back next time we’re in Edinburgh
I had a fantastic dining experience at Little Capo. The food was absolutely delicious, with authentic Italian flavors and beautifully presented dishes. Every bite was a delight, from the appetizers to the main course. The cocktail menu was equally impressive—creative, well-balanced, and a perfect complement to the meal. The staff were warm, welcoming, and attentive, making the experience even more enjoyable. Their recommendations were spot-on, and they made sure everything was perfect throughout the evening. Overall, a wonderful spot for an excellent Italian meal with great service and a stylish atmosphere. Highly recommend!
Amazing drinks, food and service. We were seated at the bar and had a few cocktails. The ragu was delicious and thoroughly enjoy a few shared plates (salumi included) and the atmosphere was smart/casual dining. Very classy spot, bartenders were super attentive and gave recommendations for cocktail bars to go to after. Will return!
This is a must visit when in Edinburgh. We went for an early birthday dinner before Hogmanay celebrations. It was busy, but the service was attentive. The food was incredible and reasonably priced. Portions are spot on. Drinks were delicious. There were 2 of us and we ordered 4 starters, 2 mains and one dessert to share and everything was spectacular. I think a reservation is necessary to avoid waiting.
I had an important business lunch here. Great interior, reminded me of places in Manhattan. Cozy and stylish in equal measure. The staff are super nice and as we were there the place really filled up. It was kinda squished at the end, which made service harder. The food was delicious. Innovative, fresh Italian. You will find no carbonaras here. It's Sea bass crostini and handmade hipster pasta. But it's not just style over substance. There's real flavour and thought gone into this food. We will be going back for sure. Highly recommended
My fiancée and I had just gotten engaged in Scotland, and Little Capo made our celebration absolutely perfect. Our local jeweler recommended it, and even though we didn’t have a reservation, the staff were incredibly kind and managed to squeeze us in. The food was unreal—easily the best we had in our 8 days in Scotland. And the service was on another level. Elle, our server, was amazing. She made us feel so welcome and genuinely celebrated with us when she heard our news. Little Capo should be at the top of anyone’s Edinburgh list. And if you get Elle as your server, you’re in for something special.
Best food, and best service we had during our time in Edinburgh. Will definitely go there again when I'm back, and already recommended the place to a couple or friends. We did need to reserve a couple of weeks in advance, and even then there was only place at the bar. However this was not a downside at all, I even recommend it!
i honestly don’t know where to start with this place… first things first, our incredible server, ben. working in hospitality myself, i have never come across such a kind, genuine and gracious gentleman. he completely elevated our entire experience. to feel so welcomed & at home in a restaurant is not something all can achieve - ben went above and beyond, totally nailing a relaxed and high quality service. food side of things - 10/10, no notes. genuinely no criticism for any dish. value and quality is clearly what this place is about!!
Had a great time at Little Capo Edinburgh! The cocktails were excellent and really well made. Izzy was a fantastic waiter – friendly, attentive, and made the whole experience even better. Would definitely recommend and will be back!
My wife and I both loved our meal at Little Capo this evening. Everything was lovely, faultless even. The food was excellent and the service was perfect. Not rushed, no lagging, really quite spot on. With the rise of food and drink costs, labor and rent, I would consider Little Capo very reasonably priced. Especially when taking into account the quality of the food, level of service and atmosphere . Little Capo will definitely be added into our Edinburgh rotation.
My girlfriend and I came here for a post valentines day meal, and it was so much better than we had expected. The food was amazing (special mention to the steak 10/10) and the staff made it even better. Ellen and Ben were so so accommodating and so kind the whole time we were there. They had great chat and were always making sure we were alright throughout the night without being overbearing. If anyones looking for a cosy funky date night spot with great accommodating and funny staff - this is the spot. We couldnt recommend it enough, thank you Ben, Ellen and the rest of the staff (especially the chefs!) for making our night so special. xxxxx luv u
Little Capo is a quaint little establishment on Howe in Edinburgh. They have received rave reviews online and even a recognition from Michelin. I was excited to try it out. I sat at the bar and was excited to try a few dishes. I explained to the bartender even though I was one person they could bring me a few dishes to try and let's pair them with some whisky. The first dish came and brilliantly paired. But then the bartender never came back...all the rest of the three dishes came together at once and weren't spaced. As I ate one the other two got cold. And we lost all sense of the pairing concept. It's unfortunate.... The food was great. The space was super for mood and character. But they lost touch with me on service. I'll give four stars...just missed on five because of service. 4 x 🍲🍲🍲🍲
Interior is lovely, although quite small and cramped, main walkway being narrow means people and staff constantly bumping into you, no space to move. The service was great, attentive and happy to answer any questions, they could probably have done with a couple more floor staff though. I’ve waited a while to dine here, being an Edinburgh resident we’ve all seen many people talk about this spot being 10/10 and a must visit however I felt it was underwhelming and a bit disappointing. The portions are pretty small, we got a mix of starters, mains and sides, some of them quite pricey for what they are. The raved about ragu arrived cold, pasta on the just-done side of al dente, we were hungry so didn’t mention the temperature. The Pea & Leek risotto was pretty horrible, just one gloopy homogenous cheesy paste, we thought it would have had plump peas throughout and tender leeks but guessing maybe they used them blended as the cooking stock? No vegetable flavour at all just very strong salty cheese. We had other dishes which were all very average. Finished with the Tiramisu, tasty but no real tiramisu flavour punch, tiny tiny portion for £6.50. All in all I more than likely wouldn’t return, I’m glad i’ve visited but left feeling underwhelmed and wouldn’t recommend it to friends and family.
In all honesty, would probably not recommend this place to a friend if asked. I went with my partner for dinner. We shared starters and pudding and had a main each. First the positive things: The ambience is lovely and the staff is attentive. The wine menu is also very extensive and the wine I tried was very nice. Sadly, the food was only fine, nicely presented but not worth the high prices, (except for the tiramisu which was excellent). What really ruined it for me was that as soon as we had stopped ordering, we were asked if we wanted the bill. Fine, since you can still stay seated we thought. But right after we had paid, we were asked if we wanted our coats back. It was pretty clear that they wanted the space back as soon as possible despite us having a reservation and having only been in there for little over an hour. Clearly you are only a valued customer while ordering and paying more money. Left a pretty bitter aftertaste to a otherwise pleasant evening.
Overall underwhelming. Food was ordinary and no surprises. The recommended sea bream starter was disastrous, just a tiny piece of bland and overcooked fish on top of regular bread. Food portions are unjustifiable considering they’ve raised the prices again within a year’s time. The mains felt like larger starters in regular restaurants, and the starter was the size of my finger. Steak in photo cost £20 not including service charge and there were 6/7 pieces each the size of a chocolate bar maximum…We spent near £70 in total without any drinks and only one starter (they recommend 2-3). The price could’ve been acceptable but sadly I walked out only half full (and that’s after drinking 2-3 glasses of water as well). Service was not worth the charge. The staff started speaking to us in a very cold and snobbish way after we said we didn’t feel like any drinks for a weekday lunch. No smiles at all and we were sitting at the bar in front of them the whole time. Keep asking us the same questions or removing our cutlery just after one person giving us new ones like the staff don’t even communicate with each other… The decor was nice but in the end just another pretentious restaurant trendy on instagram because the photos look good on social media…probably also owned by the same group of people who own most of the fancy/michelin restaurants in Edinburgh. We should probably all start thinking what local businesses we truly want to support…
