The Huxley Edinburgh Reviews
One of the best breakfasts had whilst away - we stayed at Rutland hotel and apartments bed & breakfast and breakfast was served here. Really impressed with how much choice we were allowed, enough that you didn't repeat dishes everyday unless you wanted - the hash was the best! Staff were all so friendly, welcoming and even on one very busy morning (they seem very popular generally) they still accommodated us without any issues
We walked in at the restaurant for lunch without reservation and had a warm welcome from Stuart who accommodated us very well, he promptly took out drinks order and gave us suggestions on the menu, we ordered the mac & cheese, the beef burger and the burger soup, everything absolutely delicious. My dish was the soup, I was a bit skepticall but happily surprised with my order (it was so good that we came back 2 days after and ordered the same dishes again). As a person that works on hospitality I can say that service was spotless in both visits and we would definitely return and recommend it to our friends. Great job from the kitchen team and FOH. Thank you!
On a very busy Saturday night just after Christmas. We were well accommodated Service was outstanding. The place was buzzing. Great selection for a vegan. Food was outstanding
Visited for a few drinks while having a mini break in Edinburgh. Managed to get a window seat and looking onto Princess Street. Warm, comfortable and inviting environment. Staff were attentive and friendly. Cocktails were lush. Initially only wanted a couple of drinks but ended up ordering the three small plates from the menu, I am so glad we did! They were all yummy! The beef Wellington tacos were amazing! Will definitely return on our next visit to Edinburgh
We had a delicious meal at The Huxley. Fish & Chips were excellent, fish was cooked well and the batter was fresh. I finished with a chocolate brownie, the icing was slightly too sugary for my taste buds but the actual brownie was the perfect temperature (not too claggy). Atmosphere was also good, a varied selection of music. Our waitress was very pleasant and friendly. Our dog was also allowed in, the calm atmosphere helped him chill out on the floor.
One of the best breakfast spots in Edinburgh! Perfect location on Princes Street, cozy atmosphere, and amazing coffee. The smashed avo on toast with salmon was delicious, and the French toast was heavenly. Definitely a place I’d visit again.
We ate breakfast at this place 3 days in a row as we were staying in the hotel above. Each day the food was delicious and the atmosphere was beautiful. Highly recommend this place for breakfast.
We had breakfast here twice and absolutely loved it! The French toast with bacon and maple syrup is to die for. The eggs Benedict with salmon are a true work of art — and taste even better than they look! Highly recommended!
The smashed avocado was so delicious with the fresh salsa verde and my partner enjoyed the Huxley hash so much that we went back the next day and had exactly the same thing. Lovely place, great decor and lovely picture windows to watch the world go by.
Delicious Angus bacon cheeseburger, fries & cider. Separate gluten free fryer. GF bun didn't disintegrate as they typically do. Cider crisp and tart. Waiter very helpful, attentive & friendly. Wonderful view of Edinburgh castle.
Very friendly, but slightly unattractive service, great food, great atmosphere and view. Recommended!
One of the best breakfast I had in Edinburgh. Reservation is recommended.
Our best breakfast in Edinburgh! Lovely staff, excellent food and nice atmosphere.
Came here with the wife, popped in for lunch bite to eat. Passed many times and for no reason, just never came in. Always go to George street for drinks and eats. From the moment we walked through the door, we felt very welcome. The staff were welcoming and had big smiles to welcome us. Showed us to our table and took a drinks order. On the return asked our food order. The food arrived and was pipping hot and have to say, very tastey. There are tables up a stair from the street level, but plenty on the same level. Chairs are very comfortable, only slight thing is they are a little lower than normal for eating food. But that’s a bit pick. It was ok! I’m sure it’s a nice place to have a drink, and you can sit and watch the world pass by the windows. It’s Edinburgh prices, but worth it for the quality of food. Would we come here again? Definitely
One of the most delightful spots in all of Edinburgh! In just two days of being in the city, I’ve already visited this café-winery five times — and for good reason. The service is outstanding, and the staff, especially the managers and supervisors, are incredibly welcoming and attentive. It’s a rare find where hospitality, atmosphere, and quality come together so perfectly. Highly recommended, and I’ll definitely be coming back again!
Started and ended our 3 week trip in this delightful restaurant! Skye was wonderful - friendly, helpful and kind. This place will hold a special place in our memories of our holiday here.
Lovely spot right in the center of Edinburgh with such lovely staff and an extensive menu! Our waitress, Deima, was SO accommodating, upbeat and eager to make sure we had a great lunch experience. I had the superfood salad (add chicken) and my friend had the burger — both pretty good! The s’mores sundae was a fun way to end a lovely meal.
Second time being here, food was amazing, all of the staff is super friendly and the prices are reasonable! 10/10 would come here again
Stopped in for an early breakfast and was pleasantly impressed. The atmosphere was cozy and relaxing, complemented by beautiful views of the surrounding historic architecture. We ordered the Full Scottish, Eggs Benedict, and French Toast—all exceptionally well-prepared and flavorful. The service was friendly and efficient, setting a positive tone for the day ahead. A highly recommended spot for breakfast in the heart of Edinburgh.
We did have coffee the 2 days stay in Edinburgh, love the atmosphere, to stop and relax for bit, trying the food next time in Edinburgh for sure, as did look great!
The coffee is amazing 😍 love it. Breakfast was great. I had a brownie which I found a bit too sweet... but the service I outstanding. Recommended 100%
Nice breakfast selection and yummy, too. Price was reasonable, and the view from where we were seated was lovely.
The Huxley offers a fantastic breakfast experience in a chic and inviting setting. The Scottish Breakfast was generous and packed with authentic, rich flavours, capturing the essence of traditional Scottish fare. The Eggs Benedict Royale impressed with its perfectly poached eggs atop a tender base, all enveloped in a luscious hollandaise that brought the dish to life. The cappuccino was smooth, with a well-balanced blend that rounded off the meal perfectly. Ideal for a relaxed yet refined breakfast in Edinburgh. A thoroughly deserving five-star experience!
Very good breakfast and the service is also excellent! The Avocado was just right , amazing. The green smoothie was one of the best one I ever had, so delicious! If you also want to have a view of the castle make sure to make a reservation! Would come there again for breakfast!
Had a quick drop off for lunch and cold beer 🍻 food was served very quick and tasty and the staff were nice and friendly
Every time that my wife and I visit The Huxley is a wonderful experience. The staff is so polite and attentive and the food is delicious. This time, Gregor took excellent care of us and made sure that every detail was perfect. Thank you!!
I wish I knew the name of our server so I could mention him specially! We went for a lovely lunch and drinks on Six nations Saturday on 14/02/26! Naturally a very busy day with a buzzing atmosphere. Our waiter was fantastic, so friendly and right on the ball despite how busy the venue was. Absolutely top class from him!!
We were up last week from England for the rugby, obviously the day was a bit gloomy for us until we had a few drinks in here to cheer us up. The bar staff were amazing and made us the most fabulous Expresso Martinis, but the waiting staff, especially Stella, did an incredible job under very busy and challenging circumstances. Will be back soon!
Fantastic lunch yesterday with my friend. It’s the first time we’ve been to The Huxley, and I would highly recommend it. We had a lovely table by the window, overlooking Princes Street, which was very comfortable and cosy. The food was hot, beautifully presented and delicious - you couldn’t ask for more. Our Server, James, was very warm and welcoming and very attentive. He is an asset to your establishment. We’ll definitely be back!
Came at 4pm for food and drinks with 4 girlfriends this Saturday past (29/11). I was first to arrive a little before 4 and was welcomed and shown to our table by Jane who was very friendly and smiley. She recommended the Cherry Pie Christmas cocktail which I ordered while I waited for the others. The cocktail was delicious! The music at the time was also great! My friends and I shared a mix of small plates and sides and all was lovely- especially great as 2 veggies at our table so still a good mix of food for all.
A lovely place for brunch and watching the world go by. It also feels very female friendly if that's something that is important to you. Brunch is good quality with offerings that are slightly different from the norm without being "out there". Coffee is good and the service is friendly and attentive. Plus, if you get to sit in a window, you have the hustle and bustle of Edinburgh life to observe. Recommended.
Has chill pub atmosphere, with great seats and amazing staff. We had the battered haddock and the brisket sandwich and they were both amazing. Would definitely recommend.
The best breakfast/brunch in Edinburgh hands down! We were swiftly greeted and allocated a lovely table right in the middle of the restaurant. Service was swift, and I must say Stella was absolutely amazing with us especially me who had an allergy. Not only did she take the time to care about my order, she thoroughly explained the matrix to me and even offered to ask for a manager to come to me if I wanted. Additionally, as some of us wanted to remove items replacements were offered free-of-charge, something which most places do not offer! Breakfast was soon served, and it was superb. I really want to thank all of the staff at The Huxley, you are all amazing, we will be back!
Absolutely fabulous experience for breakfast this morning! Cannot fault any aspect - food was amazing and service was outstanding from all but Stella who looked after us was exceptional- what a lovely, friendly and courteous young lady - truly a professional. Go here for great food and a truly lovely Scottish welcome 💯
Came on recommendation from friends & wasnappointed. We had three full Scottish breakfasts, the haggis in particular was excellent, my wife had the french toast with banana & Nutella, the portion size was incredibly generous. We also ordered coffees that came with a piece of tablet each which was very fun. The restaurant itself is very comfortable & colourful & our server Jack was very charming. Would definitely come again.
Went for dinner. Food was good - unfortunately everything is cooked in the same fryer so one family member (due to fish allergy) was unable to have any fried food. Brisket sandwich, Angus burger, fish and chips, tacos were all very good quality. Servers didnt write any of the order down and messed up one item - all was fine in the end though. Atmosphere was great, good music choice and very calming. Would reccomend, thanks for accommodating the dog as well.
We had a lovely dinner at The Huxley and thoroughly enjoyed both the food and the atmosphere. We ordered a selection of dishes to share including the vibrant superfood salad, indulgent halloumi fries, mac and cheese bites, and the creamy corn dip—each packed with flavour and beautifully presented. The crispy chicken burger was great too and a big sized portion. The kids were equally pleased with their meals, especially the macaroni cheese and fish taco, and they finished off with rich, gooey brownies for dessert. Everything was fresh, tasty, and generously portioned. Our server was warm, friendly, and attentive throughout the evening, adding to the relaxed and enjoyable experience. The decor was quirky and inviting, creating a fun and welcoming vibe. All in all, it was a delightful evening, and we’d happily return for another visit.
Food was great, the view as well was amazing. I ordered a caramel latte which was nice (Should have mentioned extra hot though). The Scottish Breakfast was really good. It's just the service was too slow for us even though the restaurant wasn't crowded. All in all, a nice breakfast experience, will come again!
I read the good reviews so I thought I would come and have my breakfast. After I was shown to my seat, it was 15 minutes before they took my order. I was about to walk out when the lady finally came to take my order. Once my order was in, the food didn’t take long to come out. I had a Carmel latte, which arrived warm, not hot and was stone cold by the time I was finished it. The eggs Benedict was nice, and satisfied my moaning tummy. A nice decorated cafe with a great atmosphere, I can see its appeal.
We ate here on our first night. We thought the menu was relatively limited and didn’t have a huge selection. What we got was nice.
The good was quite good and the atmosphere was very fun and entertaining. Worth a visit. The fish and chips and Mac n cheese were delicious!
Great vibes, good cocktail menu selection. The food menu was different from what I had seen online. Went with the fish tacos, unfortunately a bit over salted for me. Service was a bit slow but was at the lunch rush. Was surprised with a 10% service charge for the first time in town. £23 for tacos and a cocktail
Went for dinner after work a while ago. Didn’t have a booking but managed to get a table despite it being busy. My cookie dough pudding was so good! Would recommend for a quick bite to eat if in Edinburgh.
The staff was very accommodating. As the person that steamed the spinach put way too much salt. It was after 1230, the waiter checked with the kitchens and they happily prepared more. I just hope it was olive on the spinach but I would have preferred it steamed for around four minutes and add a wee bit of decent salted butter. The music was great we luckily arrived in time to get a window seat. I will never choose the vegetarian of a Scottish breakfast as the lorne sausage, black pudding and the veggie banger had flavour and so did the pudding but they were very dry and they were sucking the moisture from my mouth. So I recommend to trial a proper veggie breakfast with real vegetables. But great idea just not my thing. The mocha coffee was great and the poached egg and mushroom was cooked to perfection but I would have preferred another portobello mushroom rather than the very salty and over fried potato bread. I have had better potato bread or whatever it’s called in other establishments.
The Huxley is a fun restaurant with many indoor and outdoor tables, with the former surrounded by comfortable chairs and loveseats. The food is delicious, especially the soups and the burgers. The service was rather slow, but perhaps this is just by American standards and may be normal for Europeans.
We were pleasantly surprised by this place. Being nearby the castle, we were expecting a tourist trap, instead this was a very nice restaurant. They gave us a table with the view on the castle and church, it was great to have dinner looking at this amazing panorama. I recommend the small plates mix, it was enough for 2 people to feel full. We also indulged in a dessert, which for me was the best part of the meal. Try the butterscotch brownie! Bit pricey, but worth it.
Went in on 21st Dec my partners birthday for a lunch before a concert at Usher Hall.Booked for 1pm as concert started at 3pm. Arrived at 12.50. Was told table was not ready and to order drinks at bar. Place was busy but not overly. 10 past 1 was shown to table and given menus. 2 min later girl came over asked if we were ready to order. No. We needed a few more minutes.A few more minutes not 20 minutes. 1.35 went over to bar asked if we we could order food please! Said would send someone over. Another 10 min someone came over and we ordered food and 2 soft drinks. Soft drinks arrived quickly. We then sat until ten past 2. Still no food. My partner called waitress who was passing. She said she would chase it up. She came back said sorry was delay as was problem in kitchen! Its now 2 20 and concert starts at 3. Asked for bill for drinks and left. Terrible experience. Went over to Shakespeare pub and shared a plate of nachos before concert!
lovely breakfast, environment; everyone was super kind and helpful, thanks so much! Edit: I adjust service and my score to 1 unfortunately. We came one day later since we loved the place and the manager didn't accept us in the place, didn't have guts to tell it personally but used the personnel and personnel looked stressfull during the shift. A food and beverage manager should do good business, shouldn't make his personnel nervous rather than cleaning table during the rush hour. Very unprofessional manager and attitude.
We were very much looking forward to having breakfast here but were denied service. The space looked relatively busy but there were quite a few empty tables - and a couple offered to give us their table as they were on the way out. We were happy to wait but were not given the option… I understand if they were waiting on prior reservations but her reasoning was that they were too full on the other side of the restaurant which didn’t seem to make any sense.
The service was very disappointing. The staff came across as unfriendly and arrogant, which made the whole experience unpleasant. The food was average and nothing memorable. After the meal, I tried to order a coffee, but getting the staff’s attention was surprisingly difficult. When I finally managed to order, the wait was so long that I eventually had to leave without it. No matter how the food looks or how attractive the restaurant is, poor service and attitude can completely ruin the experience. Unfortunately, this place did exactly that. Definitely not recommended.
