Okumura Encino Reviews
I stopped by this restaurant to grab lunch right when they open and it was the best choice. I was their first customer of the day and found parking easily in the plaza this restaurant is in. I got seated quick and handed the menu. I went with the teriyaki beef bowl and it came with miso soup along with salad. The miso soup was good and the salad was fine. I also ordered the yellowtail with green onion roll as well. My food came out quick and it was delicious. The teriyaki beef bowl was fantastic and filled me up. The Yellowtail roll was amazing with the spicy mayo sauce. Customer service here was amazing and I would come back.
Overall I loved my experience at Okumura! From the ambiance and attentive service, to the high quality food, everything was truly fantastic! However, it was a bit odd coming in through the back of the restaurant since I parked in the lot. Could use a more official entry podium in that area to help with the confusion. We ordered the Sashimi Combo Dinner, Okumura Special Roll and Seaweed Cucumber Salad. Food items filled the table within minutes of ordering, starting with the miso soup, which came out piping hot and had a deeply rich umami flavor that didn’t rely heavily on salt. The side salad was well dressed, with a nice acidic punch and not too much oil, but didn’t feel particularly Japanese flavorwise. The salad mix and vegetables themselves were pretty basic and not great quality. Granted the ingredients are out of season, but it’d be worth having a winter specific salad that honors what is grown this time of the year for peak taste. The seaweed salad on the other hand was absolutely delicious with a nice balance of sweet, acid and nutty flavors and crunchy texture, plus it was served super cold. The fish itself on the sashimi plate was outstanding. Incredibly fresh, especially the salmon, which was like butter. It was so good, I didn’t even want to dip it in the soy sauce. The Okumura special roll also blew my mind for the opposite reason, as it had an intense burst of flavors and multiple textures in the best way. I loved how the spice created a layer on my entire tongue, yet wasn’t overpowering, and the onion on top added a sweet and savory taste with a nice crunch. Then you get to the middle and have a great combination of crab and tempura shrimp and fish on the outside. I mean WOW what a roll!
Great food with amazing staff. They get busy so expect wait times. Their fish is very fresh. Staff are friendly. Definitely try their Rainbow Carpaccio and Yellowtail. Edamame as an appetizer.
This place is a 100/100 honestly speaking. Amazing food. Amazing service. The staff is ALL so nice!! So respectful. So HELPFUL. I honestly was so impressed by the restaurant. I came with my wife and our 2 month old babies!! The ambiance is definitely family friendly! Our server Paige and server Assitant jose were so attentive. Always checking in. Insuring we were good. Our chefs Edgar and Ramon also would check in on us. Ask us how the rolls were. Asked us about The sashimi. My wife had a glass of wine. I got drunk off water. The water was probably tap but it tasted amazing LOL. We ordered 2 rolls and 1 sashimi. I don’t know the naw of them. The server picked.
Okumura has always been one of my favorite restaurants. I first ate there when it was still the owner chef and his wife attending to customers. The food is great and well thought out. We always have the salmon skin salad and the surprise we had was with the amberjack carpaccio. I will order that again.
If you’re looking for a fresh, authentic, local sushi place to dine in or takeout, this is the place to go! The seafood is always fresh and prepared well, would recommend getting the miso and shishito peppers for appetizer. The house salad is very yummy too. They have a wide variety of Japanese beer and saki. Great service and welcoming staff.
The sushi is stellar. The chefs are spectacular and truly gifted at their craft. Recommend everything on the menu. Literally. Thanks for the hospitality.
Yum, yum, & yum!!! I had such a pleasant experience here on a Friday night with my bf. Being a extreme sushi fanatic, I was glad to be able to dine out, while chewing on great quality fish. The snapper sushi was our favorite, but the yellowtail carpaccio sashimi was also delicious with the yuzu ponzu, and the salmon special sashimi with the truffle!! Who am I kidding, everything was amazing!! The servers were also very friendly and accommodating! We will definitely be back very soon!
Very tasty high quality sushi. Some of the best service I've ever had. Not a fan of the cucumber salad, but it was definitely an interesting experience. Favorite was the kuro dai (black snapper). Picture is the halibut.
The "omakase" is awesome! Must try the uni/ikura chawanmushi! Friendly and attentive wait staff eager to help! The owner is funny too! :-)
Hadn't been here in a long time, amazed to see that they continue true. Delicious sushi, to this day the best I've had. Didn't have a reservation and didn't have any issues getting seated.
Nice clean please with good food
Easily the best sushi restaurant I've dined at. Oftentimes you'll see them cutting sushi right out of the fish so you know it's fresh and you know it's what they say it is. No clandestine fish substitutions here. Very highly recommended!
a little pricey but the food was worth it. Their Poke salad is a must have.
Loved it! Great sushi and a nice atmosphere. Loved their rolls!

High end authentic Sushi restaurant here in the Valley.
This is my go to sushi spot in Encino. High quality nigiri and great rolls
This sushi restaurant serves the highest quality and most delicious sushi every time my wife and I eat here. The consistency of the taste and quality of the fish is easily a 10 out of 10. The staff is extremely friendly and the service is top notch. This is our number one go to sushi spot in all of LA hands down. We have tried many other highly rated and hyped sushi spots, as my wife is a major sushi afficionado, but this place is at the very top of the list for both of us. It is the measuring stick for all other restaurants. If you haven't eaten here you are doing yourself a disservice. You have to eat here, you won't regret.
This was my first visit and my Sushi Chef's Ramon's 3rd day and it was absolutely perfect. Ramon made a piece of fish that melted in your mouth like candy and when there wasn't a dish to match my favorite combo of Yellowtail and citrus on the menu he made one up for me that knocked the whole experience up a notch. Not to mention the prices are exceptional for the quality of food and service. Your only disappointment will be when they are closed and you have to go without or somewhere else. Come here for a 5-star LA experience with great prices to boot. Well deserved high ratings. Perfect for me.

Our new sushi place. Never going anywhere else. Black cod sushi and garlic lemon rolls are incredible. Spicy tuna delicious. Service is wonderful.

The place was clean, the service was great, the staff was respectful. The decor was simple. The sushi was great. I order the hot sake as well and it was a decent quality, the server was super helpful in recommending rolls and was really attentive. I would recommend this place for anyone who wants really good atmosphere and food.
For a Thursday night, Okumura is lively and there is a buzz of energy as if this was a Friday night. The ambiance is eclectic and maybe even a hint of art deco. I love the use of reclaimed wood to bring the warmth. As for the food, I ordered BSCR (Baked Hokkaido Scallops on California Roll) and Chicken Teriyaki. The portions are very generous even though they're $20 and $24 respectively, and you get a lot for your money. Be sure to come hungry! You also start with a good salad and delicious Miso soup. The soup is Light, hearty, and has just the amount of saltiness. The BSCR is a classic staple with baked Scallop (from Hokkaido), mayo, masago eggs, and green onions on top of California Roll. There is a soy Teriyaki and cream sauce flanking the sushi, and they really elevate the sushi. The scallops have excellent textures balancing tightness without chewiness, and the California rolls are cool and crisp. The Chicken Teriyaki is pretty good, even though the chicken itself is a bit bland and dry. But no matter, the real star is the Teriyaki sauce. This can't be just some random store-bought brand because there's a nice complexity with its sweetness, lightness, and hint of tanginess. Sure the grilled veggies aren't going to knock your socks off, but overall, it's still worth the bite.
Bright open and modern dining area with the sushi chef set up in the middle. Staff are welcoming and fish is fresh. They have lunch specials!

This place is a hit but I don't see the reason the place was empty and it still took 30 minutes for me to get seated and another hour to get my food (it was good) and the staff did not like her job and was kinda rude over all the food is good but I probably am not coming back
