I had the Candelite BBQ Burger and fries which were both amazing. The pub cheese on the burger and the BBQ seasoning on the fries were especially nice touches!

Update The visit has improved service. Service is attentive promp. The garlic mashed potatoes are great with flecks of red potatoe skins. The Irish Pub burger is well seasoned. Prior review Ever since this fire house place was converted to a restaurant I wanted to go there. Now I had my chance. Atmosphere great, food good fresh vegetables on the burger. Burgers minimum seasoning, good flavor. The fries have perfect seasoning and salt levels. Negative server/bartender gave the check before the food is out! When ask asked if he expected payment before the food was delived, he said "people do i either way. Its last call at 9:45" This happened at 9:36. That would have made it one star. Then the food was delivered by the kitchen and we had to get our own silverware, S&P and ketchup. The bartender only returned to bring the check. Me dining partner asked why we had to get our own dinig accoutrements and he said he forgot. The industry standard used to be "treat the last customer the same as your first." I get it we were close the last call. But the gentleman next to us received his bill after we did. And ours was the second time, way to rush a first time customer. The experience could be way better. Maybe they make so much in wages, tips aren't needed any longer.

If I lived in Evanston, I’d be here every week. The charm of the restored firehouse is clear both outside and inside, and the happy sounds of people eating, drinking, and having fun greeted us as soon as we entered. The 14 beers on tap had a wide variety, including my faves — stouts, hazy IPA, and Belgian white. I got Son of Juice, the Maplewood hazy. Yum. There’s also wine and a full bar. My friend ordered a cheeseburger and I got the Barbecue Chicken Pizza; both were great! The pizza is deep dish but rectangular in shape, served on a 10x14 baking sheet (Detroit Style). I had lots left to take with me, and I ate it on the road the next day. We splurged on a Cookie Skillet for dessert — wow. So good. The outside patio, strung with white lights, looks like a really funplace to eat and drink when it’s warm. All in all, we loved Firehouse!

Outstanding burgers, some of the best sweet potato fries I've had. Really nice patio with cute lights and heat lamps that kept us warm in cloudy 40° weather. Excellent hot drinks, service was really good and fast.

Excellent restaurant, super friendly and attentive staff. Very clean interior and nice decorations. Dinner was very delicious. The flavors and portions are worth the price.

The overall ambience is very low key. The food was excellent, we ordered wings and the pretzels with beer cheese sauce and garlic sauce. The beers were excellent and the wait staff are pleasant and friendly.

I discovered that Firehouse recently changed ownership, and boy can you tell a difference! They’ve rolled out a new menu that looks great. I’ve been there multiple times in the past few months (which is several times more than before) and the food has been delicious each time! Kudos!

Food 5 stars Environnement 5 stars Staff 5 stars For the service and food (with their reasonable price) I have received there, this is a 5 star restaurant. I had fish and chips, steak, and a BBQ burger. They were just yummy 😋

Awesome food, really like the Chief Burger. Great bar with great service. Guinness on tap. Seating for family meals is also great. Always find friendly faces inside, can't say enough about the service. The staff is so nice. Great part of the community.

Love the food and the ambiance in this old converted firehall. Very relaxed and good food and drinks. Good service too. The “Susan’s Michigan Salad” is phenomenal. Burgers were very good too.

Came for lunch with my partner. The wait was non existent and we got a nice booth. Our server, Cece, was amazing. We had drinks quickly and she was very patient while we were trying to figure out what we wanted. The food was amazing. We got the Cubano sandwich and tried the chopped salad with Cece's recommendation. Everything was delicious. The veggies are all high quality and the give great portion sizes especially considering the price point. You should definitely stop by if you're in the neighborhood.

We liked everything very much, the burgers were juicy, the fries were great. The service was excellent. Will definitely recommend to my friends.

Spicy Jerk Chicken Tacos! These jerk chicken tacos seriously exceeded expectations! The flour tortillas were spot-on—soft, but held everything together like a pro (no messy taco collapse here). The chicken strips were grilled just right with this amazing little crisp on the edges, and that jerk sauce? Spicy, flavorful, and totally addictive. I loved the fresh cabbage crunch and the pineapple pico de gallo was such a good call—bright and sweet in the best way. I was expecting little 3-inch tacos but these were full-sized, generous, and super fresh. And let’s talk about the cilantro lime rice—so many places just throw some herbs on regular rice, but this one was actually good. You could taste the lime, the cilantro—it just worked. Honestly, I was a little nervous about the new menu, but this was a win all around. Fresh, bold, balanced… and now I want it again.

The place has a good vibe overall. It has a bar, indoor dining as well as patio seating on favourable weather. Beverages options are great. Also the food is good overall with some hit and miss. The spicy jerk chicken taco was beyond expectation, definitely recommend it.

Good Detroit style pizza, very friendly service, quite/quaint location. Loved that they had fire engine toys for kids to play with. Would go back again.

Everything was great! Tasty burger, great beer. Yes, it's not cheap, but definitely worth the money.

Good burgers. I especially like their Fish and Chips. I can tell that it's beer-battered. Tastes so good. Their staff were attentive and friendly. My only suggestion is for the kitchen to learn how to pack fried items for carryout orders so they don't turn soggy. Rather than immediately putting fried items in the carryout container, let them sit out for a little bit before packing them. Alternatively, perhaps the restaurant could look into using ventilated containers for fried items or simply cut holes in the containers. If Firehouse Grill can do this right, the experience would be perfect.

After years of just driving past, I finally came for lunch and was pretty happy with what we got. We noticed that the food runner had bit of an attitude problem, however our server (Cindy I think?) was really great! She was really on it with noticing kitchen errors before we even had a chance to say anything. Even went so far as to comp my drinks because a pizza re-fire takes a while… and after the second one came (still wrong) she suggested a side of crumbled bacon since it was all that was missing, this time. Service errors happen, but the impressive part is being ahead of the guests, and anticipating their needs before it even gets to be a problem. So kudos to her! I love a good pan pizza and was more or less surprised at how much I enjoyed this one. Definitely will be back!

This is hospitality at its best!...I made a Friday night dinner reservation for 2 on our way to a concert, and noted that we need to be out in time to attend. Rolled in a few minutes late and Delilah greeted us and confirmed the note on the reservation; sat us promptly and offered drinks to get things started! Our server, Ana B., came over to take over having gotten our request to rush, but enjoy the evening. Offering to get our salad "out 1st"... and how! Drinks and appetizer on the table in 5 minutes. We were able to ensure we were able to arrive on time to attend our event and everything was quick, not rushed. Excellent attention to detail. More than I could have hoped to celebrate the evening!

I've been using Firehouse for catering pizza at work events for a while now and they are consistently fantastic. Molly and Pat are very friendly, responsive, and easy to work with, and their delivery drivers are communicative and nice. I only get the leftovers so can't say too much about the taste (the pizza holds up well cold!) but the salad always looks fresh and the pizza smells delicious. They're more expensive than large pizza chains, of course, but well worth the money - supporting local, talking to knowledgeable staff, and the quality of the ingredients. Plus, they have more vegetarian pizza options on their menu than other places. They are very much well within the affordable price of catering and I have recommended them to colleagues in other NU departments. I've never attended an event at Firehouse but have been told the ambiance/atmosphere is a hit, and I absolutely believe it!

Stopped by for lunch. Grabbed a Jerk Chicken bowl and a Yuengling on draft. Maybe I waited 10 minutes for my food on a Thursday afternoon...tops. Can't beat the timing. Hard to know what this place is like at night on a weekend in the summer, but with the patio open, I imagine it's a great local spot, for sure.

Great atmosphere and good staff. We went for Wednesday night trivia which was a lot of fun! The $5 trivia drink specials can’t be beat! They have a really good variety of drinks and food options. I got the veggie delight pizza in the 5x7 size which was a perfect portion for one person. The pizza was pretty good. Lots of vegetarian options too.

The food here was very good. We stopped for dinner on a weekday evening. The place was kinda busy, but not overly so. Our server was very pleasant, though not completely attentive. Getting our selections from the kitchen seemed to take forever. I had the meatloaf sandwich and my wife had fish tacos. We would return, but would hope for more efficient service timing. I might bring a book,........or a jigsaw puzzle.

The Firehouse grill has an air of casual sophistication. The patrons varied from families to couple on dates. The food was really good we had jambalaya and vegie quesadilla with fries. The drink was tastey but a little small for 12. We had a regular coffee with one refill for 8. I thought 4 bucks for a refill out of line. The service was ok. Ill be back.

Great restaurant find; when I'm up in Evanston. Great atmosphere, really good food, nice outdoor patio, but it was rainy. Cocktails seemed a tad weak, but food and service were worth it. Definitely coming here again.

This was the hubby and I lunch date spot today! I love the ambiance. The food is very flavorful. My only complaint is that the espresso martini was not an espresso martini. The flavors were not balanced and had 3 espresso beans in it. For my husband boozy shake it was GREAT! We will return

I love this place. Plus they are SO EASY TO WORK WITH when you want to host a private event. Highly recommend for youth sports banquets and the like. It is not easy to find a place that is so accommodating and lets you use the AV equipment for free (to show game film or season slideshows etc.).

Food was great, but service sucked. We are pretty patient, but drinks took a long time, food (burgers, for crying out loud!) took forever, and waitress was not attentive at all. We figured she had more important tables elsewhere. We'll look for a different place next time in Evanston.

Initially ordered burger with what I thought fries come automatically. So I also ordered Mac n cheese. Turns out you don’t automatically get fries. So I wound up with two items costing $25. A bit pricey. Everywhere fries automatically come with the sandwich. Not here

This place has gone down the fire pole. Just had the most mediocre lunch there. The pizza used to be really good. The past two times we’ve gone, each was a step down. They used to use pulled chicken now it’s these dry overcooked little tiny chunks. The veggie pizza used to be loaded with veggies and had artichokes and more sauce and man it was good. Now it’s just same old stuff like an old tired Pizza Hut supreme pizza. Maybe the clientele likes that I have no idea. But it’s no longer worth the calories. On top of the toppings issue the music was just all kinds of loud generic jock rock like what you’d see on a “90s party rock CD they sell at a gas station off the turnpike. Both my wife and I were anxious to leave bummed because we lived off this pizza during the pandemic.

We sat outside and there were a lot of bugs flying around... but I don't blame them it is summer. The service was OK but they did not come to fill the water. The food was fine and the pretzel is very salty. After all it was an OK one time expiriens.

Decent Atmosphere, but Bar Service Needs Improvement. I sat at the bar, which had plenty of seating and a lively vibe, but the service left a lot to be desired. The bartenders seemed focused on filling drink orders for the rest of the restaurant, which made bar patrons feel like an afterthought. It took a while to place my order, and after that, I wasn’t approached again for a refill or additional orders. At one point, my bartender disappeared and seemed to be handling barback duties instead. As for the food, I had wings, coleslaw, and fries. The coleslaw was the standout, while the rest was just okay. Trivia night seemed to draw a crowd, so I can see how this could be a fun spot, but adding another bartender to better serve those sitting at the bar would make a big difference.

The food is great and the staff are lovely. It's just insanely expensive, and the last three times I've been here the kitchen got my order wrong, and I have an allergy, so that's a huge issue for me.

The burgers were hearty and delicious. Servers were friendly but I had an issue when we ordered the lava cake. This is a thorn in my side is. the menu advertises a chocolate “lava cake” and this is definitely not a lava cake. It doesn’t have any ooey gooey inside. When the server came to ask how the lava cake was, we were honest and said it wasn’t that good. She made a face and said she agreed. A warning would have been nice.

Had high hopes for this place, but was sadly disappointed. Spinach was way uncooked with Zero flavor. Might as well go eat wet grass, Seriously! Blackened Salmon where? Definitely not on my plate! Cilantro lime rice, maybe they ran out of the cilantro and lime because I was served plain ole white rice. Salmon extra small and overcooked. Mixed all ingredients together and doused hot sauces on table to make it edible. Dish seriously LACKED flavor. Corn bread, was not worth eating after one bite. We all love corn bread, just not that. Burnt fried chicken sandwich. Son ate around it. We left feeling underwhelmed. Prices were inflated for quality of food. Menu is lacking. We won't be back, and No, I don't recommend it.

Bad service. Decent food. Shame. We didn't get a refill on our water until we asked. The spinach we ordered was half cooked. No offer to get me another beer. Just here's your check. I helped myself to a to-go box, too. Save your money and go to somewhere else. SMH.

The food was bland and overpriced, the service was terrible even though we were one of only two tables inside. Would not recommend.

Pretty disappointing to be honest. We came in shortly after 9. Posted closing was 10. Multiple tables in the restaurant. We were immediately informed the kitchen would be closing soon and so we placed our drink, appetizer, main and dessert order all at once. Cheese curds and pizza were good. Mac n cheese was literally cold. Like not microwaved long enough. Skillet cookie which was the item that sold us on stopping in was way over cooked and not warmed enough to even melt the ice cream. The server dropped our check before all our food was even out then stared at us till we paid the check.

This place is awful. The pizza tastes like school lunch, the burgers are hard with stale buns, the chicken is rubber, the fries are oily and floppy, the cheese curds taste like spent frying oil, the service is slow, and the prices are high. This place is super close to me so I want it to be good but every time I try it again, it sucks just as bad. I'd love for it to be just mediocre but it's not even that. This pic is of the school lunch pizza. I ordered sausage and peppers, got pepperoni and peppers. They comped it. But it still sucks.

Burger was barely edible. Toppings were a flat out joke. I'm talking a 2X2 inch piece of Iceberg leaf. Not pieces of green lettuce. A single 2 inch by 2 inch whitish looking piece. Plus they gave me onions, which stunk up the entire bag and tomatoes. I specifically asked to NOT HAVE BOTH of those disgusting items on GrubHub. I took a picture and posted it. I recommend that anyone who wants to try here, save your anguish and move along. I've eaten better food at 4th of July cookouts to be honest. 2 Star.

Ordered a Moon Cheese Pizza from Mothership Pizza Evanston through GrubHub, associated with this business, Firehouse Grill. Never had a bad experience in the past from FG, though this is the first time ordering pizza from FG. On GH, the pictures associated with the menu offered on the FG website are of round pizzas - what I received was a rectangular pizza, not at all mentioned in the descriptions on the GH or FG websites; and nothing to suggest that the pizza received was the pizza that was going to be ordered/delivered. With delivery, tax, service, tip, order, and donation the total came to $28.00. The product received did not appear to be worth the product ordered, based marketing, advertising, cost/benefit analysis, engagement, development, and reasonable expectation. When on the phone with GH Service, the representative mentioned he had spoken with someone from Mothership Pizza/FG Evanston, and relayed the message that the only thing that Mothership/FG could do was to offer a 20% discount on future orders. This is not acceptable - if a business is going to offer a secondary product to the regular/established menu, the business should want to match or exceed other local businesses whose primary products are similar to its own, and with competitive price points. If you Google Search "Mothership Pizza," a completely different chain shows up in Tempe AZ, with no pictures. Though the selection at FG differ somewhat in name on the FG website, there are no additional photos on the FG website; yet on GH, similarly-named pizzas align with the Tempe, AZ chain. Super-sketchy. There was only (1) previous review on GH aligned with my order - screenshots attached of GH site, FG site, GH Reviews, Mothership Pizza Tempe site; and actual delivered product. There was only (1) previous review on GH aligned with my order and appeared to not be bothered. Listen - this was not a $28.00 pizza, in both comparative analysis and quality satisfaction with a known provider; the experience was confusing and disappointing; and ultimately both GH and FG need to iron out some PR/Advertising/Marketing/Engagement issues if the products offered and sold are to be trusted. All this from giving a chance on a "new" pizza purveyor....shabby. I totally get it - it's pizza that's been delivered - so why was it this complicated? Glad the refund from GH is pending. G'Luck ordering from this place again.

I took my mother there last night. We were actually looking to eat steaks, but there was only one steak item (flank steak). We had 2 burgers and one ice tea, our bill was over $50 (not including tips). The 1/2lb burgers were just ok, and we both got garlic mash potatoes for our one side. The garlic mash was terrible! My ice tea, had no ice, and I had to order a cup of ice. Overall just a disappointing experience.

Many years ago this was a staple in our rotation. We’ve tried several times in the last year or two, and are consistently underwhelmed. In addition to just ‘meh’ food and service, one of our family is vegan, and the options here have continued to narrow. Tonight he ordered the only item on the menu noted that it can be made vegan (lentil sloppy joe) , and ordered it as such. His order arrived with a bun that we knew to be not vegan from previous visits. When he asked about it, nicely, the first staff member just ignored his question, and the second just informs us, without any apology, that they don’t have any vegan option. Stuff happens, we understand - restaurants can be out of stock on something and servers can be uninformed. But instead of apologizing, making any effort to offer any other dishes that could be adapted, Firehouse just happily took the dish back and left one of our diners dinner-less. We aren’t complainers, so didn’t make a big deal of it, but one would think that we might be offered some sort of comp, or at least that we might get decent service for the remainder of the meal. But no contact from anyone until we had to ask for the check after sitting for some time. I think we’re done giving Firehouse a chance. ☹️

Been in this restaurant maybe 4 years ago. Always wanted to go back. What a fright. Place is run down. Dirty. My spouse had undigestable vegie sloppy Joe that was grains not vegies. I had grilled chicken salad. That was a pile of stuff thrown together in a bowl- no match, no rhyme. High-school or college age young man was attentive and check on us few times. I do not recommend this place as we live around cleaner and better foods to be eaten and served. Best of luck cleaning up this place and restoring to previous glory.

I am not from Evanston, but this bar was recommended after a night out dining in Wilmette. Initially, the bartender was great, but as the night went on, his energy became less welcoming. When I ordered my second drink, it tasted more like juice than anything else. I asked the bartender to add more tequila, and he responded with attitude, saying it would incur an extra charge. I was fine with that, but when I asked how much the extra charge would be, he told me he didn’t know what the price was at his workplace. I was not satisfied with his attitude or service, so like anyone would, I chose not to leave a tip. After leaving the bar, the owner came out while we were walking home in the rain and questioned us about not tipping and what was wrong. It should be clear that if you’re unsatisfied with the service, there’s no reason to tip. I have never been chased down by any staff before, I would NOT recommender coming here!

So, I feel like I have to give a 1 star because the food is so profoundly bad it’s actually impressive in a way? For a Cubano to have the actual worst pickles I’ve had in my life, a grocery store vlassic pickle would have had 100x the flavor in the pickle. I gave my partner a bite of one and she agreed, they taste more like just, slightly brined cucumbers than pickles, the pork tasted as if it were boiled, unseasoned. Just no flavor. The service was friendly, and even when we said the food wasn’t good, the server seemed to understand / be used to hearing that from patrons. It’s just sad because the servers are fast and friendly, the restaurant is clean and a cool little spot. But you will find significantly better food at your local grocery store than you will here. I feel like it would be all minor changes that need to happen to actually make the food good. Just things that I’ve never had to say like ‘the pickles were literally bland.’ And the pork has almost zero seasoning on it. My partner got the fish and chips which were heavy, over-battered, and over-cooked with the batter also lacking seasoning, and probably an undermixed batter if I were to take a guess. The fries were good though!

J
Jim James

Me and my partner were gumbo, and it was anything but a gumbo. This was literally some overcooked burnt roux there is no lick of any type of okra, celery, onions, or bell pepper. The things that are pretty much what is called the Trinity goes into a gumbo. The flavor was just literally better burned through with some old. I guess it was some roast or something we’re thrown in there and they said there were sausages. I didn’t get in a pile of bland rice. That’s all it is please do not waste your money on this item. Maybe other things at the store are good but this needs to come off the menu that it’s just this is just sad.
