Tuyas Ferndale Reviews
We were so pleasantly surprised by how incredible this place was. Especially for a small, rural town like Ferndale. The chicken mole in lettuce wraps was the highlight: simple, fresh, and packed with flavor. We’re still talking about it and even want to recreate it at home! The food took a little time, but you could tell everything was made from scratch and with care. Totally worth the wait. Even the chips and salsa were fresh and delicious. If you’re anywhere near Ferndale, don’t miss this spot. It’s an unexpected gem!
I I am up in Ferndale at least once a month and I absolutely love Tuyas! The calamari is awesome, great fish tacos, and the lemon drops are the perfect blend of f sweet and sour. The servers are friendly and interacted with small my grandsons as well.
I love the atmosphere in this restaurant. The food is great. They have really nice outdoor seating so you can enjoy the nice summertime weather in Ferndale as you eat your food. A good stop as you checkout everything Ferndale has to offer.
I went there last year on vacation, and the food was so good. But especially the salsa. The fresh salsa that they give you with the chips, we were practically drinking it out of the cup. It was so good. We were almost embarrassed by it. But not quite. ☺️ I miss that salsa. Highly recommend.
The atmosphere was amazing, and despite it being busy, the waitress was fantastic and friendly. On top of everything else, the fish tacos were the best I’ve ever had. It was an incredibly positive experience in every way and we will definitely return!
Okay quite Amazed by this little place. Found it on date night while taking pictures. Cute and modern place with a pretty good selection of a menu but not quite as much as you would find another Mexican restaurants. You do have to pay for extra chips if you get any but it's worth it because there's salsa is the best I have ever had in this area! That says a lot cuz I've been I've been to every Mexican restaurant in this area. It's my absolute favorite food! I usually judge my Mexican restaurant by their chile rellenos but this particular place does not have them. I was even impressed by their prices because we walked out with a bill including the tip at around $60 that's including alcoholic drinks as well and a 10-dollar tip.
Excellent restaurant, super friendly staff and wonderful food. Can’t say enough great things about them. We will drive up from Garberville just to eat here and go back home. With it and everyone is super nice and always friendly.
Delicious! I love fancy Mexican food! Excellent, crisp, fresh. Chips are thick cut. Prices are reasonable for the quality -- I would expected the prices to be higher oddly. Fish tacos have a nice smoke flavor. Green verde sauce is killer -- super duper good. No full bar -- wine / beer only.
Four of us dined here for dinner and we all got a different dish and each one was delicious! I would definitely recommend the nachos and fish tacos in particular. We loved the freshly made tortilla chips and salsa. The service was fantastic and we were well taken care of. I would definitely come here again if I'm in the area.
Great spot with quality ingredients. Appetizers might not be the best bet but the entrees are really good. Beans and rice are very tasty. I always order the green enchiladas w chicken. The diabla shrimp might be too spicy for some people. Corn tortillas are excellent. They have some outdoor seating. Located right across from the post office, can’t miss it. Beer glasses seem smaller than the traditional pint size, but I might be too thirsty when I get there.
I got Chile Rellenos to go off of their special menus. Fantastic!!!!! Some of the best I’ve ever had. Fluffy, cheesy, fresh chilies, not canned. Yum!!!
Cute little spot, with kickass flavor. The Al Pastor is to die for, one of the only places in Humboldt that serves it with the pineapple, which is A++++ in my book. The lettuce cups with chicken mole appetizer is off the hook, such good mole sauce. Everything was really well balanced; the decor was cute with a rustic industrial fusion atmosphere boasting some local art, and the server was attentive, knowledgeable and friendly. Food was prompt and the presentation for everything was great. The deliciously savory cowgirl cocktail was like a mojito and mimosa had a lavendery baby. Will definitely make this a regular place.
Very cute and comfortable restaurant in beautiful downtown Ferndale. In the slow season wait for a table wasn’t a problem. Staff was kind in nature and tentative without being overbearing. My family which loves hot wings said the habanero wings were the best they’ve ever had! I had Al Pastor fajitas which were delicious. The menu looked underwhelming upon arrival but ended up being more than satisfying.
I had a super burrito and it was SO GOOD. My mother got three street tacos and she loved them, and my sister got chicken tortilla soup and she loved it too! There was a bit of confusion about my food, but other than that it was great.
Tuyas is, without a doubt, the best Mexican Restraunt in Humboldt County. It's a bit out of the way, but well worth the drive. Everything tastes super fresh. I love the chicken mole and the enchiladas. Even their super burrito has a distinctly fresh taste. Plus, if you're there waiting for a togo order, you can enjoy a beer in their attached cantina.
Great hidden gem of Mexican food. The chicken mole and blue corn tortillas were great!
The chorizo breakfast burrito was awesome! Everything was mixed perfectly—no random bites of just egg or just chorizo. Every bite had a little bit of everything, and the flavors were spot on.
Great fish tacos with cilantro cream sauce..choice of battered or grilled/ pan fried. Hubby got wings and a carnita burrito as big as his head..well, almost. Complimentary homemade style chips & salsa. Margaritas were excellent. Staff is friendly and on top of things. On the main drag in Ferndale which is a great Victorian town for strolling. I wish we lived closer!
We were staying in town for a week and decided to check it out. Spent the past year in San Diego and this place has been better than some of the places we’ve eaten. I had the carne asada burrito and it was delicious. Tender, flavorful, tomatillo was great... local beers for a good price. Service was spot on, the bartender was working the bar and whole dining room at the time we went in but had no issues with timing. We would definitely stop back in.
On our last trip to Ferndale, my girlfriend and I noticed this place and made a point to come try it out. Delicious food and good service in a nice atmosphere. Good margaritas and fish tacos and the starter! Sorry about the mess. I was very enthusiastic after a long hike and very hungry.
We came here for dinner. The restaurant looks so cool with a bunch of paintings. Their bar next door was filled with people. The fish taco is amazing!!!!!! They also gave up the tortilla chips for free (and you can ask for more) the chicken soup is warm and full of chickens! The Tazas is super cool. I never try those before. I also got magarita and it was good! The staffs were friendly too despite we are coming in late.
We had the best time at Tuyas. Service was great, margs were even better. The nachos were to die for. They allow dogs on the patio so we got to enjoy the town on a nice sunny day.
Fantastic experience! Lily is the greatest! The cocktails were fresh and amazing. The food was delicious! We can't wait to come back!
Ok, this place is quite the find in quiet little Ferndale! Stopped here and had two Asada Enchiladas and Chicken Taquitos both fresh and excellent food quality! Chips were super homemade crispy and salsa had just the right taste and kick. The outdoor sidewalk seating was very pleasant as the road traffic is light and downtown feels very casual. House margaritas were not from a mix and had decent amount of tequila.
We had an incredible lunch here at Tuyas! The food was excellent and our server was friendly and fun. Fish tacos were delicious and cheese enchiladas were great. If you’re in Ferndale this is a must visit !!!
Great service, and great food! Excellent for quick bites if on the go. They have a large alcohol selection. Prices are decent as the portions are HUGE. Everything was very fresh and absolutely delicious!
Excellent serverers very attentive. Food was delicious. Chips & salsa were very good. Horchata was great, not overly sweet. First time I've had Fried avocado, yum! Chicken mole was delicious.
Very nice sit down Mexican in the village with limited street parking. Had lunch on a weekday in late September for three, no waiting. Friendly service, nice high ceiling space, latin music, cloth napkins, large plates and nice food, with a few defects. Chips and salsa provided promptly and ordered drinks. Got a refill of chips as food arrived. Plates were not warm, tiny garnish of lettuce on combo plate, no sauce bar or bottled sauces, skimpy amount of jack cheese in quesadilla stuffed with lettuce, tomato sticky rice, and rellano had jack cheese. However, they provided hot sauce in small dish when asked. Room for improvement on presentation. Food was mostly fine. Nice spice in mole, beans were nice with a little mexican cheese sprinkle, corn pico was good, horchata was very good, shrimp street tacos had good shrimp, good poblano chili in rellano. Salsa and chips very good. Very nice thick and flavorful hot corn tortillas. Wonderful horchata. Would eat here again.
Super nice just had some medical issues so suggested the chicken taco salad. First off the chips and salsa were fantastic ! Service was wonderful ! Clean ! The taste is fresher than most mexican restaurants I have eaten at in humboldt. Different but in a great way !
Visited Tuyas for the first time while visiting Ferndale. Comfortable, inviting atmosphere. Friendly, competent staff. We ordered the chicken and mole, sopes and fish tacos. The food arrived pretty quickly after ordering, even though they were quite busy. The food was presented well on the plate and tasted very good. I can certainly recommend the three dishes we ate. Great service too.
We were looking for a lunch restaurant that had some healthy choices and I'm so glad that we stopped here. They have you chips and homemade salsa once you're seated. We ordered beer and a mango margarita. The margarita came in a pint glass which was a pleasant surprise. The shrimp ceviche came with chips which was demolished pretty quickly. For the mains my husband ordered the fish tacos. I got the beets, arugula and goat cheese salad with chicken as an extra. It was perfect!

I ordered the chicken mole and it was absolutely delicious. The sauce was rich, smooth, and perfectly balanced — you could taste the depth of the chilies with just the right hint of chocolate without it being too sweet. The chicken was tender and soaked up all that beautiful flavor. It came with warm rice and fresh blue corn tortillas, which made it even better. You can really tell when a restaurant takes pride in making their mole from scratch, and this one did not disappoint. Definitely a must-try if you love authentic Mexican flavors! Drinks were amazing 🥰

A cute Mexican restaurant in the middle of town. The food was delicious. A shout out to the chili Verde. The drinks were spot on. The poor waitress was by herself so overwhelmed and chasing her tail. I would definitely try the place again, hoping that staff was up to Parr.
Tuyas is now Tuyas the restaurant in its original location, and Tuyas Sports Bar . The sports bar is to the left, where a bakery? used to be. Tuyas was "full" when we arrived. We than ate in the Sports Bar. The Sports Bar doesn't have a bathroom, when I went into the restaurant to use the bathroom about 90 minutes later, I noticed a Reserved window table was still empty (about 30 min until closing)... so we COULD have eaten in the restaurant The Jalepeño Margarita was very strong and picante, a perfect drink. The fish tacos also were excellent. However while the salsas in a mariscos platter were tasty, the shrimp was overcooked. Our fried avacado appetizer was awesome.
Pretty good for the only Mexican restaurant in town. Tortilla soup is good. Chile relleno was good. The Mexican rice was good. The refried beans was not so good. The patron margarita was delicious!
Walked over from the Gingerbread Inn to grab dinner. While waiting for my food I had a Rum haha drink, it was good and the bartender was friendly, fast, and seemed like good company. However I grabbed my fish tacos and cashed out. The food was decent, worth the price. But not great and no queso dip. I won't stop back in for food. I forgot to take pics of my food but enjoy my drink pics. They have a fun bar vibe with several big screens to watch sports or TV. There's a restaurant side(next door really) too that I didn't experience.
Loved this little place. Consistent over time. Hadn't been in awhile. Nice vibe, affordable and in a beautiful community. Watch two pre teens posting there haul. So cute.

Service is excellent, nice vibe inside. Chips and salsa are some of the best that I've had. Unfortunately the chicken in the taquitos was dry so disappointing. May try another dish next time.
The food is great. I like the chimichanga and the chips and salsa are delicious. Service can be a little slow and you might have to go to the cantina if the main restaurant side is full. Busy is good though, it means the food is worth it. All around a great place if they seat you quickly and you don’t have to wait too long for food.
The restaurant/bar is cute and inviting. The service was great and we appreciated our server especially since we were a big group with two kids. However I was a bit disappointed with the food. Chips and salsa were good, but most of the appetizers we got were a miss. The avocado bites didn’t have much flavor. The shrimp in the ceviche was rubbery.. and my mom said the calamari she got was undercooked besides the breading. We were okay about it since we were pretty hungry, but left confused as to why the ratings were high. Maybe it was an off day. The margaritas were good and strong though, so I was glad about that.
We were looking to have some hot filling Mexican food this afternoon when we arrived in this town. We were served Salsa and chips. The chips were crunchy and felt fresh but the salsa tasted like a store bought or stale. I took a jalapeno margarita which came in a not-so-mexican small glass. It tasted great but the quantity was disappointing based on the price. I took the Camarones or A La Diabla. It came with butter garlic fried shrimp, rice , beans, tortillas and a ridiculously few pieces of salad(check photos). I don't know what the deal with salad was. I had to separately place an order for a fresh pico de galo (charged extra). The tortilla tasted fresh but the taste of the shrimp was a big turn off. It had a strong smell of fish (instead of shrimp) which is totally unusual. It was probably fried in leftover fish oil. The pico was fresh and the saving grace of this dish. My wife enjoyed her burrito bowl though. Overall i wasn't too pleased with the food here. It was less of a mexican taste and tasted more like a fusion. It was unnecessarily expensive.
This place had some tasty food. We liked the avocado appetizer the best. Unfortunately when they brought my food it was cold… yuck.. I waited but the waitress didn’t come check on us very soon. I decided to get up and ask the waitress if the food could be warmed up. She was eating at the host stand when I approached so just a bit awkward. My partner’s food was too hot and mine was so cold it seemed it had been sitting out for a while. After the waitress went to heat up the food in back the sauce was dried up and I was not very happy with my meal.

Way overpriced for mediocre quality food. The fish tacos were soaked in ranch sauce with canned corn Very small and paid $17 Also, she charged $2.50 for a side of hot sauce! Nope, will not be going back there
