The Greyhound finchampstead Reviews
About a week ago we visited the Greyhound prompted by a recommendation from another walker we spoke to on our circular route from Horseshoe Lake. We were not disappointed, great food, great service and great atmosphere - what's not to love! Highly recommend and definitely somewhere we will revisit on our next walk in the area.
Had a lovely experience at the Greyhound yesterday. After leaving a different pub after not receiving good service, we came without a booking and were seated straight away. Our server Laura was attentive, funny and friendly. Food was lovely and cooked to a high standard and made my mums birthday a lovely evening. Thank you Laura❤️
This is my go to restaurant when I visit my best friend who lives locally, and every time we visit we have the best time 💓 From the excellent food to the excellent wine list to the always warm and attentive service, nowhere beats it in the area. Our visit last night, when we invited our partners to join us for once, was no exception 😁 Thank you 😊
Visited on Friday 6th February, had two main fish courses from the specials menu and both were excellent. The service as ever was brilliant with very friendly and efficient staff. Will be visiting again very soon. Thanks for a wonderful evening. Sarina and Andy
I can find no fault in this lovely establishment at all! A beautiful building inside and out to start with. We had a booking for 3 and had had to change the time because of traffic which was no problem at all. The staff were very professional and friendly and showed us to our table outside. The choice of food was excellent and we were told they had a fresh fish delivery that day so I chose the lobster for my main and I had the goats cheese and asparagus tart with poached egg to start. The food is of very high quality and was delicious. For dessert I had the vanilla cheesecake with strawberries and they kindly wrote happy birthday in chocolate around my plate. If you have a special occasion or just want an excellent meal this is definately the place to go.
We had a joint birthday celebration and the staff were super attentive from entering the premises to our departure. We had a chat with the barstaff on arrival and settled in before being taken to our table where Tom was exceptional. We had the Sunday lunches (Pork/ Beef/ Chicken). Portions were generous and the side dishes were bottomless. Beautiful roast potatoes, carrots, cauliflower cheese, pigs in blankets, gravy .. the whole works Simply sumptious. Highly recommend.
I and a friend dined here on 20th January '26 as we do every few months. The food as always was exceptional and we were warmly welcomed y the Restaurant Manager Johnny, as indeed we were by all the staff we encountered. This truly is a gastropub without the sky high prices particularly when offers are available. The combination of service, food and atmosphere make a list an experience, not just a lunch.
We went today for a festive Sunday lunch. The food was excellent? Bottomless sides and fantastic roasts. The staff were attentive and friendly, excellent service. Fantastic lunch, great atmosphere and everything was quick despite it being incredible busy.
I don’t often leave reviews but have to say I had a meal in the dining room tonight with my family and it was exceptional. High quality, amazing flavours, and all beautifully prepared. Highly recommend.
I had a very nice experience at The Greyhound. The place is clean and cozy. The staff are friendly and polite. I was offered gluten-free options, which I really appreciated. The food was delicious and well cooked. I didn’t wait long for my order. Prices are reasonable. I enjoyed my time there and would recommend this restaurant.
Booked here for a birthday meal and checked reviews prior and certainly lived up to expectations. Ordered a few snacks to share for starters. We all Ordered beef Wellington x 6 as sharing between two it was cooked amazing and all sides accompanied this perfectly. Friendly and helpful service and manged to have table in pub as we have dog with us. The puddings were ok bit disappointed compared with mains. Lovely family celebration dinner and certainly pub to recommend!
Nice bar, good beers and a lovely restaurant area. Excellent food, tireless service and a banging wine list. A great evening, well looked after, and good value for money.
Wow....I'm not sure you'll find a better roast dinner locally, this has definitely set a new standard for us. The staff, especially Tom were all very welcoming and extremely helpful, and all set in a great atmosphere. The Chefs Sergio and Albie clearly understand what it takes to deliver incredibly delicious food consistently. Don't be put off with how busy The Greyhound gets it's busy for a good reason. It now comes very highly recommended. YOU WONT BE DISAPPOINTED.
Been to the Greyhound a couple times, had a fantastic service every time. Food is always great and they have a great wine selection! Highly recommend for an evening meal or a drink in a nice atmosphere.
Superb! The food, service and general atmosphere is fantastic, would describe it as casual fine dining more than a pub. Children’s menu needs some work, but staff very accommodating with my sons fussy requirements.
Really lovely meal. Menu was a little different from usual pub menus which was great. Service was very attentive and friendly. Good choice of wine. Overall lovely evening
We thoroughly enjoyed our impromptu visit to this lovely place. The decor make the Greyhound very welcoming and stylish creating a relaxing and cosy ambience. Three bar area is just perfect to enjoy drinks, snacks and a chat with friends. The restaurant is very well laid out and has character. Most importantly the food was absolutely excellent. It's refreshing to see a menu which is both seasonal and clearly has been given some thought. Interesting, well balanced dishes make it really difficult to choose what to order. I suppose that's a good sign for a great restaurant, you just can't wait to go back and try other dishes. Everything we ordered was exceptionally well presented and packed with wonderful flavours. The quality of the service was outstanding. Our waiter, Alistair looked after us really well. He was highly professional. His knowledge of the menu meant he was able to describe with authority and in detail each dish. Attention to detail was clear throughout, from the food to the service. The Jerusalem artichoke, truffle and almond ricotta starter was an excellent combination of flavours. The other starter was just as tasty consisting of smoked goose breast, rilette and chutney. For main course the shepherds pie served with a lamb cutlet was absolutely sumptuous. An open tart of pumpkin, chicory, ceps puree and finished with grated Old Winchester cheese delivered in both flavour and texture. We will definitely be back soon to make sure we try some of the other dishes as well as the very appealing dessert menu.
Wow what a place this is. The bar and restaurant are lovely and modern. It is light and airy inside, with a very modern feel. The staff are frendily and polite. The food is exquisite and to die for. This is a must visit place for food lover's.
Beautiful restaurant with a stunning outside area. Great food and fantastic service 😊 Vegetarian roast option was delicious 😋 Only improvement would be to make the menu clearly highlight the vegetarian and vegan options 🌱
We’ve tried a good number of pubs for Sunday roasts around Wokingham/Berkshire and none have matched today’s at the Greyhound! The loveliest service from every member of staff there…chatty, funny, welcoming, helpful, attentive without being pushy…absolutely perfect! Then the food….stunning! Yorkshire puds the size of our heads, pigs in blankets, perfect roast potatoes, lovely veg, meat (we had a selection between us) done to perfection. Too full for a pudding each but a couple between us showed us that the desserts were as good as the roast dinners! Then they brought out a brownie with a happy birthday message for my husband too as an extra little treat! The pub itself is also very attractive. Without a doubt, the best Sunday roast we’ve had in Berkshire for a long, long time!
Undeniably delicious food and wine, roast dinner is one of the best we've had and the wine pairing supported by the waiter was spot on! Great atmosphere, with natural light & wood surroundings. A place not to be missed & will happily come again! Compliments to the front house staff & chefs!🥇🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
Fantastic! Food was outstanding. Really pleasant atmosphere. Would thoroughly recommend.
Attended one of the special dinner and wine tasting events on Friday evening. What an amazing evening the food easily matched that of a top class London restaurant. Wine pairing to the food was excellent. Will be back
Gorgeous Sunday dinner, beef was so soft and melted in your mouth, veg all so perfect and bottomless. Lovely staff and atmosphere. Best ever!
Very nice food and wine here.. Was our second visit and we still like it. It's out in the sticks but worth a visit.
Went to this pub with some friends on Monday. As someone who doesn’t drink often I find it hard to find something that tastes good to me. Luckily Hattie who was working the bar was so helpful and actually made my night!
Lovely pub for a Sunday lunch. Great portion sizes, and the meat was delicious. Good range of beers and local English wine. Service was very attentive and helpful with our little one and the pram. Good value for money as well.
My elderly cousin and myself enjoyed a light lunch on Monday and the food was outstanding and the helpful staff were extremely kind and understanding of our mobility problems.
Awesome food and great service. Visiting on a Monday night we were surprised at how quiet it was however the staff didn't take this as time to relax or do other jobs and were super attentive. The cheeseburger was amazing and the small pot of rich gravy on the side for those who like to dunk was delicious. We were glad we skipped starters as the chocolate mousse and strawberry cheesecake sunday were outstanding, we walked away stuffed! We'd not been there for nearly a year but will be certainly heading back, especially as the Sunday roasts sounded great.
I've never been to the establishment before soi didn't know what to expect. What i got was exceptional!! The food was delicious and arrived quickly, the service was excellent, the bar staff was extremely friendly, with a really nice environment and atmosphere. I highly recommend giving it a try!! 👌🏽😁
Very very impressive. Lovely atmosphere that somehow manages to get sophisticated gastro-pub and local boozer (done posh!!) in to the same pub. Excellent menu - verging on fine dining but down to earth enough that it’s not pretentious. Lovely wine list. Attentive swift service. It’s not cheap - £140 dinner for two with booze. But it’s worth it. Will be back.
We visited on a bank holiday evening. Fantastic service all through the meal. Pretty location - has good parking. Wine excellent. Food wise it was ok. Desserts good. Menu very different. Presentation very good. I would think dishes are better other days. It was a last-minute decision to go there based on past reviews. We had not dined out for quite a while and did find it expensive. It became a birthday treat.
We went for brunch, the outside and inside of the pub are gorgeous! Especially the outside in the sunshine!! Today as its wintery we were inside, staff were super friendly and accomdating, prices are a little steep and for the brunch menu I would prefer a few more classic choices as it felt like more of a lunch menu than brunch. Overall however its a lovely pub and the staff were fab, worth a visit
We had a fantastic lunch this week, made all the better by the wonderful hospitality from Rachel, the manager. The roast chicken and the flat iron steak were both cooked to perfection and both utterly delicious. The only reason for the 4* are the prices which are a little on the steep side, although they do do a 2 course menu for £27 or 2 courses for £32. To top it all, they serve the best coffee in the area, worth a visit just for that!
Nicely decorated pub, clean and the garden looks nice. We were asked to order before a big group arrives. However the food does still takes a longer than expected time to arrive. Food is ok nothing spectacular. The Yorkshire pudding looks nice but it is quiet hard at some places. The nutroast that I have was not pipping hot.
Was excited to spend my birthday at the Greyhound as the food is very good. However everything else was off and we had a horrible confrontation with another group of diners. Apparently my mother had called them up to remind them it was my birthday - they did nothing to mark it but it’s a busy Sunday so that was not a big deal. However, we asked for a bottle of water three times and no one brought one - they could have sold us another bottle of wine if they had bothered to ask if we wanted more drinks given we were celebrating. We had to aggressively flag someone down to get top ups of the bottomless roast sides and when my partner asked if the plant based cheesecake contained soy he was told that the maitre de “didn’t get involved with what goes on in the kitchen” - great to know if you have a food allergy. Meanwhile the table behind us was incredibly noisy and literally throwing roast potatoes across the table at one another. This ratcheted up a level when we were waiting to pay the bill so we decided we couldn’t wait and went up to pay at the bar. As my 75 year old mother walked past, she said to them that they should keep the noise down for other guests. Next thing we know the three men at the table are circling round her at the bar confronting her for her comment and shouting that she’s a narcissist. Thankfully my partner was there who shielded her and tried to diffuse the situation - the staff did absolutely nothing. We were left badly shaken and in tears. Thanks to the nice paying customer at the bar who tried to help us. While I realise the staff are not paid enough to get in the middle of a fight between a 75 year old woman and an adult male in a UFC hoodie and his mates, they could have asked them to go and sit down and keep the noise down for all the other paying customers.
★★☆☆☆ 2/5 Only stopped for drinks. The bar team were friendly and served a cracking G&T (nice to see a couple of local Berkshire gins on the shelf). But two things took the shine off: 1. Bye-bye village shop, hello darts. I was really looking forward to browsing the little on-site shop I’d heard about, only to find it’s been ripped out to make room for dartboards. 2. That “FREE BEER” sign… Up close the small print reads “alcohol-free beer”. A cheeky joke, sure, but it felt like click-bait and killed the mood. Decent staff and good gin can’t quite outweigh the gimmicks, so it’s a reluctant two stars from me.
Ordered Sunday roast. Meat was chewy. Yorkshire pudding was crunchy and burnt. Pig in the blanket was hard. Potatoes were dry and over cooked as well.
The pub is clean and very attractive. The staff were very friendly and attentive. However, the service was shambolic. Too many servers were involved in serving one table, so mistakes kept being made. Food arrived for our group over the course of over half an hour. Sides arrived long after people had almost finished eating. The vegetables were cold. The Yorkshire pudding was hard, cold and tasteless. I ordered the roast beef and I would have been ashamed to have served my portion to a two year old. Two tiny slivers of beef - half of what would make a decent sandwich. To charge £26 for that is offensive.
Great food just don’t sit in the bar area, your be mobbed by customers waiting for tables standing right next to you while you eat, had a party of 14 people stood staring at us eating our meal , and another 6 people with their arses pointing at us stood directly in front of us, way too close!
This is a pub we visit regularly and used to be our favourite but unfortunately the service we have experienced the last two visits has been dyer! We were left waiting for nearly 30 minutes to order a drink. More staff are needed and more staff that actually know how to make the cocktails. No clue why you have a 2 for 1 on cocktails every friday if you have staff that don’t know how to make cocktails and don’t know how to make them in a timely manner. Please do better because we would like to return one day!
Went to get some light pub snacks after picking up the boy from school at 1515hrs. Decided to finally try the Greyhound as all the signage for sandwiches and snacks had sounded like a good place for exactly that. Sit down outside, menus all laid out ready. Asked where to place an order for food outside and the waiter points me to the bar. Get there and they say kitchen closed at 1500hrs. Waste of time.
