I have travelled the world extensively over 40 years. I ate at all restaurants ranging from pop & mom’s to Michelin three stars. This is my honest review of the restaurant Le Deck at Hotel Baron Tavernier in Chexbres, Switzerland. A wonderful culinary experience in an exceptional setting! This restaurant, perched above the vineyards with breathtaking views of Lake Geneva and the French Alps, offers both refined cuisine and impeccable service. The staff was warm, attentive, and highly professional, making the experience even more enjoyable. Our meal began with beautifully fresh crab meat, delicately seasoned with citrus and light spices, highlighting an elegant play on textures. The fried quail that followed was outstanding, featuring a rich, well-balanced sauce that complemented the dish perfectly, accompanied by thoughtfully prepared sides. We also opted for the perch fillets from the lake. While the flavor was excellent, I found them slightly over-fried, and a simpler preparation might have better showcased their natural taste. That said, the dish was still enjoyable, especially with the deliciously grilled baby potatoes served alongside. Overall, a fantastic dining experience with stunning views and sophisticated flavors. A place well worth visiting for both the food and the ambiance!
Amazing food and service with the best view you could imagine. Perch fish was excellent - best I had in the area. Cheese plate also good. Desserts fantastic. Wine pairings were ok. Service was wonderful. Would definitely come back!!
I planned a mid-morning bike ride to a noon lunch at Le Deck. I requested a table outside and they were able to make that happen. Every aspect of the experience was fantastic. My server, Marion, was fun, attentive and patient with my limited French. I went with the 5 course lunch. Three of the courses were exceptional - the smoked tuna and octopus, the lamb and zucchini and the olive oil roasted apricot dessert. I will definitely be back.
I had an early lunch on the terrace of this upscale French restaurant a beautiful Wednesday in mid June of 2025. You have a rather limited choice of perfectly executed dishes including vegetarian options. There are some discrete attentions to details, like napkins with a buttonhole allowing you to protect your expensive Hermès tie if you would ever wear one these days. The wines by the glass are well chosen and include some unusual proposals like a Traminer from Javet & Javet on Mont Vully north of Lake Murten that also houses farms producing the black rice that was served with my char. A beurre blanc including trout and lump fish roe accompanied the fish. Our pleasant waiter tried to convince me I had herring roe but you don't try that trick with someone who has eaten fermented and fresh herring roe for many decades... Overall, a very pleasant meal with prices for food and wine on the high side. This is at least partly compensated by the magnificent view over the lake, probably the best you will find in any of the many restaurants on the northern shores of Lake Geneva.
The environment is very nice and the vineyard view is beautiful. The food tasted very delicious and the chefs were of a very high standard. I really like the berries on the meat. It's so sweet and special. The white wine here is very nice. The waiters were also very warm and I enjoyed their service very much👍🏻
Beautiful terrace overlooking the vineyards, the lake and the mountains. We came here after a long hot walk and it was exactly what we needed. The wine & champagne here are great as well. There are comfortable seating areas as well as your regular high top tables! We could have spent hours here just looking at the views and hanging out. It was truly stunning.
Such a stunning spot, enjoying coffee with a breathtaking view of Lake Geneva 🩵
Amazing experience! Beautiful views, delicious food and gluten-free available! We had the multi-course chef's selection and everything was delightful. The wait staff was so attentive and kind as well. Highly recommend to anyone visiting the Swiss Riviera.
Such a beautiful experience to visit this restaurant in all aspects !! The location , food and breathtaking views !! Would surely go back again when visiting Switzerland 🇨🇭
Restaurant with breathtaking view, excellent food and outstanding service. It worths each paid penny. Generally the atmosphere is very relaxing. Summertime they have a terrace at which unfortunately you can’t book a table. For me it is the best place to be on the lake side.
Amazing restaurant with a fabulous view over the whole of lake Geneva There is a 4 or 6 course tasting menu (4 course is plenty since portions are big) or an a la carte menu Definitely try the crispy tuna pizza, the veal tartare. As for wines they have some excellent local wines
It really is a 5 star dining experience. On a nice day the views of the lake and terraced vineyards are exquisite. All three courses we ate were beautifully presented and the flavours were exceptional. The service from the staff was top drawer. Overall a highly recommended experience.
We visited the restaurant for lunch. The view is absolutely beautiful. We ordered the fish dish called Perches du Léman and it was really delicius. The service was formal, professional and very good. The restaurant gave us a desert for a compliement, too.
Me and my parents came here for a nice dinner. The service was amazing, as well as the location and the view from the restaurant. The waiting time for the food was short, and the food tasted really good. The only problem are the prices, which were a bit too high for some items, so be prepared for that. Other than that, amazing experience, great food, definitely recommend!!
Diana is very kind and she recommend well!! I find best wine and cocktail here :) chadonney that she recommend is amazing! I wanna buy bottle if I go to carry easily, also tomato brugetta dishes, it was so good too, Thanks to her I have good memory Laveux also passion fruit cocktail is awesome! I drunked from afternoon because of delicious wine and cocktail 💕
Amazing view, nice cocktails. Gives me a holiday kind of vibe! Recommend it especially on sunny days when all you want to do is look at the view and sip on a nice, fresh cocktail! Also offers some good snacks to go with your drink. One suggestion would be for the staff to be more flexible with seating (at the moment if you are sitting at a table they do not allow you to switch tables in case one with a nicer version of the view becomes available).
Breathtaking view. You can sit here for hours and not get bored. Did not go to the restaurant but we sat outside for drinks. Pretty good drinks and appetizers
About the menu "6 plates" I am not a restaurant critic, I am a Ukrainian who works in the UK in a warehouse. What can I understand about haute cuisine. Right. Nothing. But I don't regret a bit that I spent my salary for two days (or three) to try it. It's magical. This is a flavor fair. It's worth a try. Someone went to great lengths to create this magic. Thanks a lot. Separate top marks for the service staff. The young guy was just a darling. And view 😍
We lived in Switzerland between 2008 and 2016 and never missed an opportunity to take family and friends to Le Deck to enjoy an aperitif or evening meal. Spectacular views of Lac Leman and the Alps. Beautiful ambience and comfortable seating makes for a perfect evening. Don't be surprised if the car park is full. Park in the near by village of Chexbres. This place is a must see. The sunset and water feature make lasting memories. Friendly staff, great service.
Really nice view of lake. Service and atmosphere is just great. Food was also good. Really like the salads, caviar table and the fish they served. Definitely recommend here.
Great view and foods especially the service was awesome. Ms Sevinchi speaks almost all the languages which made it easy to order with my Russian friends.
One of the best spots in the Lavaux region. The best rooftop/terrace overlooking the vineyards, lake, and French alps. Fantastic during the day or the night and even more breathtaking during sunset. Easily accessed by car, walking path, bus, or train.
The view, the view, the view... and good cocktails, local wines + ham & cheese plates. This pairs perfectly with the golden hour experience. Could be a little bit crowded. Patiently wait in the line, no reservations accepted for the bar (only for the restaurant).
It was awesome. I have read mixed reviews and my husband and I are both good cooks and enjoy good drinks and wine and we were thrilled at every turn. The ambience and views speak for themselves. I started with a fresh strawberry daiquiri that was one of the best drinks I have ever had - we asked what kind of rum it was, because it was so good. The stand out courses were the gruyere puff pastry, the pasta with mushrooms, and the filet of aged beef. There were surprises delivered before and after the meal that were equally exquisite- especially the cold soup. This place is superb- oh and I almost forgot the staff! They were attentive, charming and knowledgeable. Just the best!!!
Perfect views! Super friendly staff! I couldn't believe how nice they were! I even thought at first they had me mistaken for someone they know but they turned out to be genuinely friendly and helpful! Just thinking about their Burger is mouthwatering! Definitely will head back there many more times.
Highly recommend booking a table for lunch or dinner here if you can! They have a restaurant area and a lounge area, both have incredible views. I don't think you need reservations for the lounge area, but beat to check. The food was lovely and service was great. Really worth a visit
Fantastic views of the lake and vineyards below. Quite a trek to get up there if you’re walking (very steep hill - not far in distance from the rest of the town though). Definitely worth it though! Good selection of drinks. A bit pricy, but not any more than one would expect. We came mid afternoon on a Friday and it was pretty busy but we were able to get a seat with a great view. Service was good and attentive as well.
Wonderfull place. We went there for a wedding and stayed at the hotel. I can only recommend this place. From the welcoming, the aperitif with the astonishing view on the rivera (the best view of the lake for me), the restaurant and the room... every thing was just perfect. A special thanks and big thumbs up to the chef at the restaurant.
Le Deck is a place to visit in Lavaux well known for its glass terrace giving a breathtaking view directly over vineyards and lake Léman. There are bar places and a restaurant, the last one should be called to book a table well in advance. We visited the restaurant in October 2020 and the quality and taste of the meals were simply top. The staff was very attentive and friendly, my 6 y.o. got things to draw and play with and a free ice cream of his choice, he was happy. Very clearly a recommendation from my side to visit this place. Plan enough time to enjoy this unique view over one of the most beautiful landscapes in Switzerland 💙
The place is incredible. No matter how good your camera is, it just won't do justice to the breathtaking view on the lake and the Alps. Waiters and waitresses are excellent, menu offers nice choices of mostly local food. Come preferably for lunch during weekdays and, time permitting, enjoy your afternoon on the outdoor patio. Budget is above average but so is the experience. As long as it's not a foggy day this is something you'll neither regret nor forget
The steaks were one of the very best steaks I had and is one of the best experiences in my life. The view showed the mountains of France and was a dog friendly atmosphere. This restaurant had plenty of space and has also an outside space. The staff was always asking to serve you something, they were very kind, plus they would always recommend the best things that would serve you. The atmosphere again was very chill and calm with the music too. I hope this would want to make you eat this restaurant!🤤
A wondrous location and the perfect light bite lunch This is such a wonderful spot for a light lunch on the outdoor terrace. The view of the lake is wide angled across to the mountainous French side notwithstanding the cascading vineyards at your feet tumbling down to Rivaz. It transports you into dreamland. It is so uplifting and the fact it provides light bites is a bonus if you do not wish a more formal side inside We have returned twice this August as we cannot say enough about the fried calamari - small bodied calamari not larger bodied squid lightly tempura and importantly tender accompanied by skin french fries fait maison. The first visit was after a walk through the UNESCO vineyards of Chexbres below the restaurant
Marvellous lake view, great food, but on sunny days the windbreakers limit air circulation on the far part of terrace. Prefer the high table by the decorative pool!
beautiful views, recommend to reserve ahead of time for the restaurant (indoors with a air-conditioning) otherwise you'll end up eating at the deck with snak/bar food.
Beautiful view and nice atmosphere over the terrasses of Lavaux. Cocktails are good and there is the possibility also to accompany the drinking with some ardoises (meaning, some plates of cheese or charcuterie). It is a nice place for a fancy apéro or even dinner. It is usually very popular, so this may lead to some parking difficulties, although there is a reserved parking for the clients. A bit overpriced with respect to a normal lounge, but it is ok, as the view is really worth.
The outdoor area. OMG the view! What a fabulous location. Good service. The woman manager was phenomenal. Limited food selection. If you are staying at Baron Tavernier, you can skip the line waiting to get in. The indoor area. The view loses a lot at night due to the very reflective glass, but the food is wonderful. The service was impeccable. My girlfriend has some serious food allergies and they accommodated her perfectly. We liked it so much, we ate dinner there two nights. Don't miss the outdoor deck for an afternoon drink or the indoor dining room for a great dinner.
Best ! It was magnificent experience in le deck restaurant ! We ate really well here for breakfast and lunch ( definitely will come back)! their service is impeccable ( especially with baby) and the staff professional and friendly in the restaurant. ! Amazing view and perfect weather we had ! Merci beaucoup Et belle continuation
Vistas increíbles. Chardonnay incomparable.
Beautiful spot with an absolutely stunning view over Lake Geneva and the vineyards of Lavaux. That alone makes it worth the visit. Service is friendly and efficient, and the food is good with great presentation. You mostly come here for the view, but everything else holds up nicely too. Parking might be an issue so make sure you prepare in advance your visit. The Lavaux vineyards are part of the UNESCO World Heritage sites and rightfully so. I'd suggest you enjoy a glass of local Chasselas to make your experience authentic. Santé!
We came for drinks and enjoyed some finger food—calamari, hummus, and French fries—all very tasty. But the real highlight is the absolutely stunning view of the lake and mountains. A perfect spot to relax and take it all in!
Restaurant is inside, it doesn’t give refreshing atmosphere, bar is better. Food is ok. Portions are very small. Staff is smiley and nice. Prices are weirdly high. View is very good. I suggest visiting to have a drink and finger foods in the bar, and enjoy the atmosphere. *~*~* Thank you for your comments 🙏
My wife and me went to have dinner there. The location and view is mind blowing. The bar lounge area is really nice and staff member are amazing! We had our issues only with the staff member in the restaurant. Our waiter wasn’t on that level where you would expect them to be. He took the order and my wife told Told him that the beef should be well done. He answered “No problem” When he served the beef menu it was not well done and answered my wife “Well done is complicated” It’s an answer you cannot accept. For me they served the wrong menu. He said no problem and left. After 5 minutes he came to me and told me “It’s complicated” and it would take another 20 minutes. I think that the professional level is not what it should be. Also the jokes he did were more inappropriate and you had the impression you were in a local restaurant in Spain. However food was really nice!
Gorgeous views! Really amazing. Service was not so good for such a restaurant, but quite acceptable. Anyway you just look at the lake, the wonderful light and the unforgettable Alps in the background and suddenly everything seams less important!
You cannot beat this view! Food was delicious and wine was very good! Be warned that there is a strict rule for everyone to order one main each. Staff were a bit pretentious but it comes with the place. All worth it for the view - especially sunset!
Absolute stunning view over Lake Geneva and the surrounding vineyards in a very classy atmosphere. Unfortunately, there were some negative aspects that cost them one star - one (this is not their fault) it was a super hot day and the fact that there is umbrellas and everything is glass covered it felt like a greenhouse. The second and in my opinion more relevant negative point was the way their ice cream gets served. Since it was a hot day we decided on ice cream and we got the Mövenpick Icecream in a plastic container like you can buy them in a convenient store. This brought the otherwise so classy image of this place down unfortunately.
Best view ever! Outrageous prices for what it is. A “filet de perche” for over 50 CHF is not acceptable even with this view and setting. Staff is not flexible. They presented the menu of the day while were still reading the menu and chatting with our friends. When we ordered, the waiter said we missed the timing and the menu couldn’t be done anymore because of 15min. Won’t have dinner too soon again… luckily there is still the terrace to enjoy the view for an Apero.
A visit to the Deck terrace (not the restaurant) to admire the stunning view and taste some of the amazing local wines with a very curious American client. I reluctantly give it 3 stars because giving it 5 would be dishonest, even though I wish I could. Here's why. The view is indeed breathtaking. Even after around fifty visits, still as impressed as ever. The staff is delightful, truly. The service is of a hospitality school: charming but laborious. This means you need some tolerance. Sometimes, a little helping hand, but a good sense of humor easily irons out those small issues. The trainees work very hard. So why only 3 stars? Situated in the heart of the Lavaux vineyard in Switzerland, the Deck offered only one vaudois white wine, not even from the neighboring vinemakers. The rest of the wine list consists of foreign wines. No Saint-Saphorin, Calamin, Villette, Epesses, Lutry, or Dézaley. A little surprised, I opted for an Œil de Perdrix or a Dôle Blanche, but the poor server seemed lost, offering only mediocre French rosés. Whispering Angel? Forget about it, my good man! The establishment has clearly taken a turn, likely directed by a French person who appears either ignorant or disdainful of local treasures and catering to passing by tourists. I decided to diplomatically bail out with my bewildered client. We drove down through the vineyards towards Rivaz, where is the most charming little wine stand, offering local wines. The person there treated us to a tasting with plenty of details and anecdotes, along with some excellent bread! My client now with stars in his eyes: "Now I'm really in Switzerland, thank you!" (His father's bomber, damaged after a raid over Milan, had landed in the area). The Deck, for photos, is beautiful, really, but it remains a 3-star experience. Sorry. Management, get your things straight.
Personally, the views are great and you can stay cool from the sun with a lovely breeze and shade under the big parasols. However I haven't had quite as bad service in such an expensive restaurant before. There was a 5 minute wait, which is standard for Le Deck because its a premium location. We were sat down and everything was alright to begin with. The waiter was quite rude in not allowing us to move closer to the glass for an unknown reason. The reason we asked to move because we needed one extra chair and it just seemed easier to move than ask for a chair. The waiter eventually through my best friend asking the waiter twice to get a chair for us so I didn't have to sit on a stool. Our drinks order was taken, and drinks came shortly after. However the second round of drinks got lost somehow even though we were about 5 metres from the bar. We were talking amongst ourselves then realised that we hadn't received them after about 20 minutes or so. Eventually we got them with no apology but a little more wine in some glasses. I noticed that a lot of staff were standing around and not doing a huge amount to be honest considering how busy it was. Also from my friends who live in Lausanne. They are very particular to wealthy customers over the normal customer. That is quite rude. Quite a few things need to be ironed out and fixed. You should not pay extortionate amounts for drinks and view but rubbish service. The 3 stars was because of the location and view and I am being generous as this was my first time. Even my friends were saying how poor the service was and they have been there many times before
The Tapas in the Deck was inedible. Pizza from the coop frozen and not properly cooked, cakimari Wass horrible chewy and inedible. Never eating thee again. Beautiful view. Such a shame. Dispute many owners, none can run a restaurant.
The views are lovely and the outdoor terrace is the biggest asset this bar/restaurant has. However, the customer service is hit-and-miss. Some of the staff are very nice, some are rather petty. For example, we arrived midweek at 13:40 for a coffee and the lady made us go away and wait until 14:00 when the lunch menu was over. The place was empty at the time and it was raining, she could have just seated us at one of the many many empty tables?!
You will have to wait for two hours to get a steak.
View is stunning and food was good but the service was SO bad! From the moment we entered we felt like we annoyed them. Not a smile, and slow as hell.
Meal was not special, chicken was served totally cold. The lady at the table text to us ordered the same and also complained about the cold chicken dish. Desert was beside the look not satisfaying at all. In Conclusion, the food was totally overpriced (we paid 190 CHF for 1 starter, 2 main dishes, 1 desert, 2 glasses of wine) and not enjoyable. However, staff was friendly, view is great.
Food is delicious, everyone is kind, tje view is amazing, but 2 stars for François who really needs to learn to be kinder to customers.
We sat on the deck outside. The view is beautiful. But the food quality is below average. Cocktails are good. But the food is not worth the money.
Nothing to offer (or should not offer) beside the beautiful scenery. Worst food in my life. My family almost got sick the moment we put the mullet in our mouths. Even the fish Gollum had would have been better. Even the guests from the next table were sniffing the dishes as if the fish tasted weird. Salad was okay but both the fish and the lamb dish were terrible. Servers did not even explain the food while serving most of the time. The scenery is amazing but even the music choice was inconsiderate and the speaker quality was bad. Not even to mention how overpriced it was. I had the signature menu. "Do not come" as Walter said to the guy who killed Hank.
Most horrible service, we’ve faced in Switzerland so far. They asked us to leave even when we had ordered drinks and some nibble bites. It’s not our fault that they had limited vegetarian options which didn’t even look appealing. They were quite racist, rude and impolite. Especially Francois.
A great view, but mega unfriendly staff, well below average quality of food and super expensive menu! It is pity as they could turn such place to a marvellous spot with a better management, a bit of smile on face and reasonable prices.
Very poor service. Very slow and so inefficient. We have to ask several times to the waiter and the waitress to take order and we were waiting for a while for the assigned waiter to come. His excuse: I was busy. Yes indeed! we know that, we saw you chatting for a while with another waiter. It took 20 - 30 min to take order, then another 20 - 30 min to be served! A personal couldn't even speak either French (the official language of that region of Switzerland), English nor Swiss German (another official Language of Switzerland). The view is undeniably beautiful, but the place was very disappointing because the personal was unfriendly and inefficient. I recommend to go for a hike in the Lavaux and skip Le Deck. Not worth it at all. There are other bars around.
The service was terrible; we waited for a long time without anyone coming to serve us. Even for small things like asking the waiter for the WiFi password or a napkin, we had to wait a long time. Furthermore, the restaurant discriminates against Asians. There was a table of Americans who made a reservation even more spur-of-the-moment than us, yet they were seated before us. Such poor service completely ruined the view of the restaurant. I advise all travelers to Monstrax, especially Asians, to stay away from this restaurant.
We ate here in the indoor part on Le Deck's terrace. Unfortunately this was without doubt the worst dining experience we have ever had. We've eaten everywhere from top class restaurants to local family restaurants around the world and this is by far the most ridiculous and awful experience we've ever had. We all ordered the chicken with potato mousse. The "chicken" was two of the tiniest chicken wings per person that we've ever seen.....there must have been less than 20g of meat on the plate. My cats eat more on their plates in the morning. The potato mousse was a liquid, it was so liquid it couldn't be eaten with a fork, a straw would have been more applicable....and to make matters worse it was slathered in their bitter green olive oil, making it disgusting in taste. Our children left their food...we were left with a bill of 230 francs for 4 plates of chicken....each with only 20g of meat and potato that couldn't be eaten. Oh don't forget the carrots.....no that was 1 little "end" of a carrot, less than 1cm long. It felt like a joke...like we were on a TV show with cameramen about to jump out and admit it was all a stupid joke on us!!! Except it wasn't funny at all. AVOID AT ALL COSTS. Do not waste your time or money on this restaurant.
