Masons Arms Frome Reviews
First time eating here, always drove past but never been in. Was given lots of recommendations to come here so we did & boy aren’t we glad we did! Absolutely incredible food, great prices & the place is lovely, a lot bigger inside than it looks. 10/10 … we will be back, probably over the weekend! Staff were also great, very welcoming! Thank you
Lovely meal last night. Food delicious, service good and beer excellent.
Frome’s best kept secret. Stumbled upon this gold mine by chance and we are so glad we did. As soon as you enter the Masons Arms you are treated like long lost friends. The staff are helpful and friendly and the atmosphere puts you at ease immediately. We ordered food (expecting standard but decent pub grub) but instead we were treated to the most satisfying, delicious meal. I cannot recommend this pub enough. If pubs needed a rescue plan-look at what the Masons Arms are doing because they are amazing. Paul….
Best roast beef I can remember eating . Great service too
Very good draft beer, mad goose recommend. Reasonable selection of food very tasty and well presented. 2 meals and four drinks £50 including tip
Ended up here by chance when looking for food and so glad we did. Staff were very friendly and efficient. Food was homemade and fresh cooked and great quality including the kids menu and the prices were excellent value. There was also some games, toys, colouring (with pencils not crayons) and books to entertain the kids and Mia was great at helping to distracting Hangry children who had a long day out. If we lived more locally we would visit regularly but would definitely go again if in the area.
We had the most amazing visit from the minute I walked in I asked for a table my friend was joining who had a highly disabled child we asked for somewhere quiet so as we wouldn't disturb over patrons when my friend arrived without my knowledge the staff had set up the ramp for them. They had no raised eyebrows that he was on the floor. The staff made us feel welcomed and part of the community which can be really hard to find so thank you for your kindness and being so welcoming. We run a carers group on the town so always on the lookout for places we can go
We had the most wonderful meal whilst away. We were celebrating our youngest son’s birthday and the touches that Maxine put into our meal were lovely. There was a banner on the table and a little candle in his desert. Such lovely touches. The food was fantastic, the hunters chicken was outstanding.
Thought we would pay a visit as we have heard good things from friends about the new management that have recently taken over. We were blown away by the outstanding service and welcoming we were given. Food was amazing, shout out to the new waitress too who couldn’t do enough for us!
We were served by Max, my friend knows her from a previous job and she has clearly carried over her kind and helpful service to here. Very attentive and friendly! The food looked fantastic and my friend agreed the ham hock was delicious, as were the honey sausages!
Took my wife to the Masons arms for her 60th birthday meal. Luke and his chef were fantastic hosts, and the food was exceptional. Will definitely be returning very soon. Would highly recommend
Whilst driving through Frome we stopped at this pub with our two children. We did make a quick last minute table reservation in case although it was quiet when we arrived. Very friendly welcome. We ordered two children’s meals and two burgers with a side of onion rings. Really good portion size, reasonably priced and the quality of the food was really good. Attentive waitress. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit and would recommend!
So welcoming and delicious food. They were kind enough to let us stay in our camper overnight too and the Sunday night quiz night was great fun. Thank you. Kate
Amazing food and service. Lovely atmosphere and staff were super friendly and helpful.
This was our first time eating out on Christmas day and I have to say what a treat it was, I had heard it had been taken over very recently and I have to say what a lovely couple, they made us feel very welcome along with the homely feel the pub gave us and the great food and great service it was spot on and we would definitely come back again.
Lovely atmosphere, very friendly staff , excellent service and fantastic food. It was our first visit, we were a table of 8 and will definitely return and recommend it.
Me and my friend stopped by for a cheeky pint and some chips, we had such a nice time and the atmosphere and staff was really friendly, cheerful, and outgoing. Will deffo be coming back again!
3 of us went for a meal this evening and it was amazing. All the food was delicious and incredibly tasty. The service was super quick and super friendly. We plan to return very soon. Thank you for the lovely experience!
We went on a Friday when they had live entertainment. The service and staff were amazing, and so was the food, could not fault it at all. It's always tricky finding somewhere that can accommodate allergies and they were able to do this without issue as well. Chelsea was amazing and a credit to your team, we will definitely be coming back!
Had a beautiful meal here tonight. Hadn’t booked but the staff were super friendly and made us feel very welcome. Would recommend.
Went for lunch with my husband - lots of choice on the menu and he had the best pint he can remember. The service was efficient and friendly - thank you Izzy for looking after us so well. We won't need supper!
Food was great, service was superb, just love this pub.
Evening meal with friends. Very freindly and helpful staff. The four of us enjoyed a great two course meal. The pub looks to have been well refurbished recently. Plenty of parking.
Didn't stop here but had a lovely evening meal was beautiful really enjoyed x
Just came back from a meal here. Friendly staff and great service. Really delicious food. Whole family enjoyed. Would definitely recommend!
Friendly staff, good food and decent portions. What’s not to like
Visited this pub this evening for the first time for dinner and drinks. I must say we had a great experience from the moment we walked in. We were greeted by welcoming staff, great selection of drinks and the best pork belly we’ve ever had! We were really impressed with the cleanliness of the entire place (especially the toilets) the atmosphere is the best we’ve experienced in the area. Exceptional food for a reasonable price. Friendly staff, clean cosy environment, log fires and dog friendly. If you’re looking for a homely vibe with a relaxed friendly atmosphere this is the place to go. Will definitely be returning time and time again! Update** had such a lovely evening returned the following day for a late lunch, had the chicken burger with sweet potato fries and the pie and mash. AGAIN, fantastic service, delicious food, got chatting with other patrons and the staff and all in all just a really lovely evening. Have booked for Sunday Roast. Even though a 20 minute drive away. Will be our new local!
Stopped in on the way home from holiday, we have been looking for a pub like this for ages great layout, Superb service, well kept beers and a quality menu. The landlord was superb and very hospitable, with treats and water on hand for the dog. It took us a while to decide on food as there was a good selection and priced very well indeed. Settled on scampi and the schnitzel both cooked exceptionally well decent amount of tartare sauce with my scampi no thimbles of sauce here!! Surprised at the negative reviews for food and pricing, if you're passing and want a decent plate of food and a very nice pint, you could do loads worse than stopping here!
Zoe and Blair are the new owners.. Great people, friendly and welcoming. The log burning fire is just the ticket for these cold winter months The Masons is everything you could want from a country pub... The new publicans are busy putting their own stamp on this great looking pub. Photos show its clean and inviting with fantastic outside spaces ready for the warmer months ahead.
This is a great little pub. It was perfect for our group of ten to gather and enjoy time together. Great food and great service.
Lovely friendly atmosphere to this pub, walked from The Lighthouse B&B approx 1 mile away. Good food and drinks reasonably priced. Very welcoming staff. Cold night, no taxis. One of the locals offered us a lift back to the B&B as the route back was in complete darkness Definitely a 5 star 🌟 review
Popped in for lunch today with my mate enroute home. A lovely warm welcome, nicely furnished and very clean. We had fish finger baguettes with skin on fries. Very tasty and beautifully cooked washed down with a couple of pints of Neck Oil. All for £40, excellent value, great service and an all round great pub. Will be definitely going back. Thank you to all the staff for making us so very welcome.
Food was absolutely beautiful. Will definitely be back. As a meat eater I hight recommend the plant based burger
I visited this pub 4th Jan 2024. I came with my four year old son and I could not recommend this place more. The staff were so helpful and friendly, they really helped me with my son too. Making sure we had games etc. We had a lovely meal, reasonably priced. Would highly recommend! (haven't left a review for the rooms as I did not stay in their facilities)
Went here today for lunch and the 4 of us and our labrador and were all very impressed. Staff (MIA and Anna) were very attentive and made us feel like part of the family and had a good laugh with us. Food was very good value and home made, I had the pie which was great and really homemade, plus we had schnitzel, fish cakes and haddock all cooked perfectly and no complaints. This is a really well run, friendly pub that serves good home cooked food. I think the negative comments are not a fair representation of the Mason so ignore! Thanks Team Mason we will be back!!
Lovely warm staff that create a welcoming environment! Food was absolutely delicious and we will definitely be returning when we are next in the area
Lovely pub! We stayed in their car park for free in our motorhome and went in for a meal. The food was super tasty which lots of flavour.. hats off to the chef! We sat there like lemons for a while wanting to pay not knowing we had to pay at the bar, never the less a friendly local pub that made us feel very welcome! Thanks for the stay too 😊
Took a wrong turn & found this place. What a happy accident. Best food of our holiday. Best mixed grill in a long time - so tasty with a peppercorn crust on perfectly cooked meat. Burgers & chips tasty & well presented. Sevice excellent even double checking order wasn't due to allergies ( it was due to fussiness). You can tell this nice looking pub has atmosphere. Best to book as so good. Will come again.
Great pub, great meal and lovely staff. We stupidly forgot to book somewhere for Sunday lunch on Christmas Eve, but this place came to the rescue and the chef agreed to squeeze us in. We were so glad he did as the meal was fantastic. We will definitely be back next time we're in the Frome area.
We had a really lovely evening out at the Masons last week. The steak pie was amazing, really meaty and my partner had the Cambodian curry, he said the meat was really tender and thoroughly enjoyed it. The staff on shift were all friendly and there was no waiting around for drinks or service. On the whole we had a nice experience. Not too sure why so many bad reviews, we have friends who regularly eat here and they were the ones who recommended it to us. Maybe people just need to be kinder to the people trying to keep the pub trade going. We’ll definitely be back again. Thank you all for a pleasant evening oh and for the brownie… lush!
Wonderful food, freshly cooked, very tasty. Service with a smile. Lovely atmosphere. Highly recommended.
Had three meals at the Masons Arms during our weeks stay at a nearby cottage and every meal was exceptional, the staff were all friendly and professional and there was a great atmosphere. We all said we can’t wait to return.
**Update 04/12/2024** Food is much better now, as is the service Sunday lunch here is ok. I've had better and I've had worse. Service was friendly though and we were not kept waiting. I thought that Sean or Shaun, however he spells his name, was very pleasant and enthusiastic. I did particularly like the fact that you get a huge gravy boat, not a poxy splash of gravy like those posh places. Bad point was that there were no dairy free puddings.
Had an amazing visit to the Masson arms today. The food was delicious and reasonably priced. The staff were so accommodating with my son who is highly disabled and in a wheelchair full time and we’re warm, friendly and inviting. Will definitely be visiting again very soon.
Friend & I had 7pm booking at Masons Arms. Made most welcome & service good. We both chose Venison Casserole with herby mash & veg, the venison was tender, tasty & in a rich gravy. Came with fresh carrots & cabbage, thoroughly enjoyable. Mash was fine though perhaps not 'herby', veg all good quantity. Great selection of desserts & wine. We happily relaxed over our meal, never rushed by staff. I'm certainly going to return, good menu, pleasantly unpretentious & welcoming pub. Also looks good place for quiet drinks too. Thanks to staff at Masons Arms.
We did not stay here but had our Christmas meal here a small group of 4. Lovely pub and staff very friendly and I believe they have recently taken over the pub so very new here. We had to pre order our food online but you can’t adjust it afterwards so I tried to contact them by phone and just couldn’t get Through to them and no email address to be able to contact them directly Either Had to wait quite awhile for our Roast Turkey dinners to arrive ( not busy) Not enough room on the table for how they wanted to present their food which was all in different serving bowls instead of on the plate or in fewer bowls to accommodate the space on the tables which maybe they can look at going forwards. The first thing we noticed was the CHRISTMAS ROAST TURKEY DINNER came with a salad on the plate, which we find quite bizarre for a roast dinner!!!! The sliced Turkey meat was very dry as if it had been hanging around under a hot lamp. There was No stuffing or cranberry sauce to compliment the roast turkey dinner. No Brussels sprouts which were on the menu. But this could Just be a few teething problems as being new to the establishment. After saying this the roast potatoes, parsnips and carrots were delicious as was the Yorkshire pudding. We were very grateful for the leaks in cheese sauce as we could spread this over the Turkey and that was very nice. They provided very nice Christmas crackers on the table for each person. All in all I would go back in a few months time and hopefully See some improvements once they’ve established themselves.
Food was lovely, but was quite disappointed by the reaction from the female member of staff when I asked about the classics deal, she reacted like I was stupid to ask saying "its a new menu today, absolutely not". The deal was advertised on the website so I do wonder if it should have been available and she was just wrong. Either way, it was advertised as being available and this should have been looked at. The new menu change seemed to cause quite a stir and all the locals and bar staff were talking about it and how much more expensive everything was and how much less you were now getting for your money. This was quite off-putting especially when the staff joined in, but towards the end it was quite funny hearing a local say for the 20th time "and if you want a dressed side salad that's an extra £3.50" The man who served us was great.
Had a very nice, freshly-cooked lunch the other day. The barmaid was very friendly and helpful and the draught beer was great. With easy parking - and motorhome stop-overs allowed - what more could you want?
Everyone in my group enjoyed their food but I ordered a vegan roast dinner yet it came with a yorkshire made from milk and a serving of cheesy leeks. Also my pumpkin wrapped in filo pastry was full of spicy chickpeas. Who wants spicy food with roast veg and gravy? Not a good pub for vegan food but everyone else was happy.
Stopped here for lunch on the way home from Center Parcs. Dog friendly pub for food. Food was very nice, good value for money compared to other local businesses. Staff were friendly and helpful. Knocked a star off as there is no baby change facility, I had to change our baby in the boot in sub zero temperatures, which soured the experience slightly.
On the Internet, it said any meal and any drink for £11 per person. When I paid, it was priced at the normal rate total £26. The size of the meal was small very small, Our 9 & 7 year old grandchildren have more on there plate's then we were served. WOULD NOT GO BACK
Just had a meal . One main came other didn't turn up, as we finished first one ask about other, And said it be 5 mins . So that point decided to leave still charged us the meal cost. Also the main we did have was not of great at all . Terrible place and service didn't even try to make better disgusting..
Absolutely awful if you are looking for a meal. An hour from ordering to starters arriving - soup and prawn cocktail not particularly hard to plate up! When the waiter cleared our starters we were surprised when he asked if we would like our mains. We should have taken this as a hint to say no! Mains arrived after a long wait - pie and chips and a chicken burger. We had also ordered onion rings which were forgotten but arrived 10 minutes later. They were swimming in oil and inedible. The pie was dry. The gravy was like brown unflavoured water. Not even sure it's possible to ruin chips but they managed it! They were tasteless and dry. The chicken burger was below average and dry. Don't know what it actually tasted like because it was covered in garlic mayo. We weren't asked how our food was so no opportunity to feed back, especially as we had paid on ordering - clever idea when your food is terrible. We left after just a few mouthfuls of food. £50 down and still hungry.
Took my grandchildren for a meal at the mason arms tonight to say we were very disappointed at the size of the meals is a under statement. My 6 year old had a kids meal and I feed my cat more than what was on her plate and my grandson had a full size lasagne and garlic bread and we got charged £2.50 for two tiny slices. As we have eaten there before as we live local I thought a nice place to take them how wrong was I we won't be returning
I booked the table for 2pm, 3 days ago aware today was a bank holiday, We got here at 1.45 and was allocated a table and bought drinks. At 2.10 pm I went to the bar to order food, as no one had taken our order, and was told the kitchen closed at 2pm. We are a local business that recommends this pub to our guests. We won't anymore and we won't be back.
As per the other reviews. (We didn't read them unfortunately. We only popped in because we were running late and this was the first pub we came across.) Wait time for food was unbelievable! The couple opposite had been waiting 45 minutes for theirs. Our food was hurried and in my opinion, the meat was undercooked , the vegetables microwaved and the food tasteless. We couldn't eat it and walked out! My advice. Don't, just don't!
We were very disappointed with our lunch today. We had booked to meet good friends who we hadn't seen for some time. We felt the standard of the food was well below expected and pictured on your website, and the quantities served were inadequate. The few chips served were dried out, the fish dry and overcooked, the steak was dry and overcooked and a side salad limp and well past its peak. One positive was that the waitress was friendly and helpful. It was difficult to complain at the time as our friends were treating us. We felt so hungry when we left that we stopped off to buy a snack on the way home. This is the first time I have ever written a negative review as I am not a person who looks for things to complain about so I am very sad to feel the need to voice our disappointment.
