My Canh Restaurant Garland Reviews
This is a true grandma-style restaurant with big portions perfect for sharing. If you’re looking for that authentic wok aroma, this place has it. It’s a hole-in-the-wall spot, but packed with flavor. The older staff have been here for years and they provide genuinely great service. Definitely a place I’ll come back to!
Delicious, great value food! The price is amazing and the quantity is great for the price you pay for. Everything is perfectly cooked with perfect seasoning. Got: combination fried rice, fried fish fillet with black bean sauce, beef flat noodle with sate sauce, crispy salty squid, and salty deep fried pork chop. I will be coming back MANY more times and trying out more of their menu. This has become my family's new favorite Chinese Vietnamese restaurant. Update: ordered more food to go and still just as great as the first time. The quantity is a lot and they even provide white rice! I got: Peking pork chops, beef flat noodles, and stir fried fish fillet with vegetables. Everything was delicious and I'm gonna keep coming back for more.
This is THE SPOT for authentic, delicious, and right priced Chinese food in town! Haven’t had a single dish we didn’t like. They accompany both big and small parties and can get pretty busy on the weekends so make sure to come early. They also have a drive thru window if you know exactly what to order (no menu sign outside). The interior could be more updated however the food is great!!
It is definitely one of those old school Asian restaurants. You walk in you see the aquariums of fish, crabs, and lobsters. You have the old school tables that are slightly stick to the touch, but are clean. Waitresses were super nice and helpful, asked if we wanted more veggies and offered an additional item. The food was fantastic, honestly probably the best food out in Dallas that reminds me of home, haven't found a better place yet... But I am very happy with this place.
Super solid authentic Chinese food. Good for late night Chinese-food cravings as they're open late! Definitely a hole-in-the-wall. The place is super old and dated. Food is a 5/5 though. My Canh was my go-to for salt & pepper squid and pork chops. I am a huge fan of the crispy squid. It is definitely the BEST crispy squid around. I always have to order it when I go here. As should you. The fried pork chops are also deeeeelish. I really like those sesame balls they give you when you're done with your meal as they are super cute and yummy.
My brother and I found this place by chance and it's our absolute favorite place to eat. The food never disappoints, no matter what we order, and our usual waitress is always friendly and helpful. Its hours of operation are also super convenient since we tend to eat dinner really late, so if you're a night owl like us this place is perfect. When we first tried My Canh's, we had a mission to try every fire pot on the menu and we ended up loving each one. Since then we've branched out to other dishes on the menu and nothing has disappointed us yet.
Not the best looking restaurant from the outside but people who have been here knows their food. They are authentic Chinese food. Lots of stir fry selections. They open late and have late hours as well. Staff are friendly some smile more than others 😬 Lots of seating. For larger group, they do have several larger tables. Recommend you call to reserve for larger group. The atmosphere is always loud and noisy when lots of people. Not much of decorating. You come here for the food but would be nice if it was a nicer dining hall. We had 19 and was seated in 2 large tables.
Authentic and affordable Cantonese flavors in a no frills setting. They shine in stir fried, fried and saucy dishes over the steamed dishes. The veggies were fresh too. The pork chops in XO sauce were delicious . Pork chops fried crispy and flash stir fried over the sauce in a wok. The crispy pig intestine were clean tasting and cooked to perfection. This is a whole in the wall offering authentic and old school Cantonese dishes that are become rare or fusions into upscale cuisine. If you are looking for a fancier environment, get the food for carry out, they packed ours very well.
Well it’s definitely humble, but the food was indeed cheap and pretty tasty. A little weird that they don’t seem to have traditional appetizers like egg rolls, ragoons, or dumplings. Just get some wonton soup and an extra noodle dish. Speaking of which the wontons in the wonton soup were pretty awesome, broth wasn’t spectacular, but I’d order it again. Soy sauce chow mein is exactly what I wanted it to be. Good texture, good flavor, good portion. Would order again. Also tried the chicken in black bean sauce which came over wide rice noodles. Noodles were good, sauce was okay, chicken was okay. I was least impressed, but I’d like to give another protein a shot and try something spicey before I pass judgement. Great hole in the wall place (even though it’s a standalone building). I’m sure I’ll be back.
6/30/25: What I Ordered: 1. Fried Shrimp with Cheese 2. Crab Meat with Fish Belly Soup 3. Braised Bean Curd with Vegetables 4. (Sea Cucumber with Abalone: cancelled - The owner failed to read the list of what I ordered sent to him days ago and so I learned they do not have sea cucumber and only have enough abalone for one table. I ended up with a dish of stir fry abalone with vegetables for my table and the other table had stir fry squid in kung pow sauce. 5. Clams in Black Bean Garlic Sauce 6. Orange Beef 7. Young Chow Fried Rice 8. Chef's recommendation: Steamed Chicken in a savory soy sauce *Sweet treat from the owner: The owner treated us with fried sesame glutinous balls and some sweet watermelon. It's been years since I last came here. The son of the original owner took over the business. What I recommend: Friend shrimp with cheese Orange beef Steamed Chicken in savory sauce Clams in Black Bean Sauce Notes about the other cuisines: 1. The crab soup here is by far the most liquidy (lổng) loose crab soup I have tasted. 2. Braised tofu with vegetables in white sauce just lacks flavor for me compared to the same dish offered at other Chinese restaurants I have tried. 3. The abalone was somewhat chewy. 4. The Young Chow Fried Rice I used to love here has changed. The smell, taste, and flavor of the rice has changed a lot. The rice is just too dry from what I used to get often. 5. The Kung Pow sauce with the squid did not impress me. I find the Kung Pow version at Zhang's Kitchen to be addicting and the best version I have tasted, with the robust tangy citrusy spicy flavor I do not get here from My Canh. For some reason, the stir fry dishes today makes me feel like the restaurant ran out of cornstarch powder.
Well, it has been many many years since my last visit. What a disappointment! The best dish was the veggie. Everything else was either not fresh or no taste. The catfish in the hotpot was very fishy (meaning not fresh); the deep fried pork had no flavor: chicken meat was overcooked… sorry won’t be back
