Barndiva Healdsburg Reviews
AMAZING top notch food! There is no possibility of being dissatisfied with your meal! Went in for brunch with my mom, no reservation, and we were seated immediately. I do recommend reservations though, it seems like this place would have busy days and the meal is enjoyed on the slower end. Atmosphere is wonderful and lightly loud(: I will definitely be coming back here with my sister, friends, fiancé whenever I’m in Healdsburg and will recommend 100% to anyone I can. The one negative I will say is the restaurant unfortunately seems to lack a good wait staff. At least the waitress helping us today. She wasn’t up to par with the amazing food and drinks. Automatic 20% service charge on the bill for sub-par service left me a bit confused to why this amazing restaurant wouldn’t have amazing waiters/waitresses. 15% would have been a more than generous amount for-this specific- waitress(I’ve had better service at Applebees) and I really do love tipping 20-30% to amazing service people, it’s one thing I stand by whenever I go out anywhere. It just felt like she knew she was going to get 20% so the quality of service didn’t matter? Idk, hopefully improvements will be made and I’ll update in the future! Do not let that stop you from going though, it truly was one of the BEST burgers I’ve had in my life, and I will soon be back. So happy I stumbled upon this place on online! Cheers!
Great restaurant at an accessible price point. Loved that the tasting menu had choices - each dish was great though. Very good service without being pretentious. We were able to bring my 10 year old nephew to his first set menu experience without it being intimidating- the wait staff was fantastic and the food approachable for a young foodie. Will be back.
The dishes I was served were delicious, well presented and would be hard to improve on. I thought the prix fixé menu was good value for the quality quantity and variety of food- though the dishes were entirely to my taste so for me there was no downside. Others could feel constrained by this menu format, of course. Ancillaries were unsurprisingly somewhat expensive- par for the course, perhaps, at this level of establishment.
Barndiva has a beautiful, relaxed environment from building to the menu to the staff. The food was amazing, the staff were so friendly. The brioche and goat cheese balls were really fresh and bite sized. Even though some things have changed, the best bits are still there.
For dinner, they only offer the set menu, and the service fee is automatically included. This review is for March 2023. The food was pretty stellar. Some dishes were very inventive, like the shellfish sausage, but maybe not perfected. Other dishes, such as the gruyere croquette, potato soup, egg yolk dumplings, all their greens and mushrooms, were both unique as well as amazing. The dessert tops it all off. Large portions of delectable treats that would be right at home on the Great British Baking show.
Delicious food, unique and amazing drinks. The staff actually got us to change what we wanted by their description of the food and they were right. The Chicken was amazing.
The Michelin star is well deserved. Original food. Delicious. Highlights locally available and seasonal ingredients. Modern techniques. Creative. Vibrant. Terrific service. Very memorable evening. Allow at least two hours for dining here for a table of two. It's one seating per night, so they're not racing to turn over tables. Food is made from scratch and takes a while. If you have to be somewhere, communicate that before the day of your reservation and make sure they can accommodate you. This isn't a quick dining kind of place.
The atmosphere was the best part of this culinary delight. The food was also exceptional! We celebrated our 24th wedding anniversary here and have no regrets...memorable evening. Staff all wished us well. Perfect night
We went for a late lunch. They are really watching the social distancing protocol including taking temperatures and cleaning hands.that made us feel comfortable and at ease. We had the fried chicken sandwiches, fries and a desert. The fries were barely too salty. A very good experience.
The old stalwart continues to deliver at a very high level. The chilled corn soup was a revelation and their extruded pastas are usually worth seeking out. Thoughtfully built wine list
I work at the Linen Company who services their linens. I'd been meaning to try them out for some time. Finally, last night, the guys I've been seeing for some time took me here. Wow, just WOW! It was amazing. The art gallery style situation was incredibly neat. So much to look and see. The staff was so very nice. We were on a date, I was quite obviously into the guy. The server found us a nice quiet table in the corner, even took away the extra seats and pulled the chairs so they were on the same side of the table. Very cute. They gave us a couple tastings of wine to start off while we were looking through the drink menu. They had so many selections, massively so. I'm studying to be a Somm, and they were quite education about their wines. All night, we were very well tended to. The food was stunning. Our waitress gave us great recommendations for food. It was ALL amazing. Truly a high bar on this place. The service/food/wine is unsurpassed. They even gave us a round of free drinks while we were paying. I got more wine in my glass that last round than the ones I paid for. They treated us very well. Aside from a glowing review. I will be going back soon! Thank you BarnDiva Staff for a great night.
I'm vegetarian and this month's menu (beet coffee risotto, chestnut truffle Agnolotti, and caramel semifreddo) was A+ amazing. Some of the most creative food I've had in a long time (flavors such as coffee, lavender, honey) and well worth the money, though I was skeptical before going in... Highly recommend!
All I can say is "wow"! Great food and beautiful presentation. The restaurant is immaculate and service was stellar. We ate outside on the charming patio because we brought our small dog...yes, PET FRIENDLY! They get a 5-star in my book just for being dog friendly. But seriously, this is a culinary experience that all foodies must have, and no I am not faking it, if you know what I mean, "umm umm ahh ahhh, put it my mouth, yes, yes, yes..."
We enjoyed a fabulous wedding at Barndiva! Guests raved about the hors d’œuvres and the beef bourguignon especially; the vegetarian dish was delicious, but less substantive. The desserts were fabulous--the bride had three cream puffs even though she doesn’t usually like cream puffs, but these were the best! The setting couldn’t have been prettier and everyone was friendly, easy to work with, and responsive. Five stars.
A wonderful experience. Beautiful outdoor seating among a well landscaped garden. Our table of three ordered the salmon, burger and shrimp scampi. All very delicious and fresh. The highlight was the citrus mousse cake which was heavenly. Staff very attentive. You must book a table ahead of time on Open Table and you will need your Mobile to order your food, the restaurant has very strict protocols to limit person to person contact.
2018 update: Continues to be delightful. The beat salad was delicious once again with a pistachio sauce. The halibut was outstanding with a perfect crust and the spaghetti squash with lobster had generous lobster chunks and flavor. Dessert was tasty the snickers macaron and although the caramel would normally add too much sweetness, they pulled it off just right. We were split regard the burrata but I found it just as delicious as in 2015.
Not only are the food and cocktails always to die for, the creativity of Barndiva has executed socially distancing in the most enjoyable experience I have ever had. Both times I have come here during COVID kept me smiling and laughing while staying safe, with great stories to remember. Thanks Barndiva for upping your game in a time of hardship and turmoil.
An unexpected and hidden gem. This restaurant is an oasis, especially in the days of COVID. We had to eat out in the garden, normally reserved for weddings and receptions. The menu was full of great tastes, familiar and new. They have an original craft cocktail program that is full of subtle flavors.
Aaron treated us to dinner last night at Barndiva. It was absolutely fabulous from the moment we walked in to the time that we left. My son Aaron ordered for us everything on the menu. We started with appetizers like 6 of them, lol then main entrees and then 3 deserts! I took pictures of only the main course. Everything tasted so so good! The staff was awesome, made us feel welcome and we didn’t need to ask for anything, they had it covered. We noticed the wire art hanging over the indoor tables, it’s freakin awesome! The shadow creates an awesome image on the wall behind it. The trees in the back were shaped to have arches and are stringed with lights, such a beautiful setting. I loved everything about last nights dinner experience. It’s no wonder Aaron fits in well here and it’s no wonder why they are a Michelin star restaurant. Stop by, say hi to Aaron and have a bite to eat, you will not regret it.
This restaurant is a great place to have a relaxing lunch or dinner with a friend with great ambiance. The staff was kind and attentive. I had the sirloin bacon burger and I must say it was probably one of the juiciest burgers I’ve ever had. The signature cocktails are unique and also really good. Parking wasn’t an issue for me mid day as they have their own lot. Highly recommended for a peaceful meal in a beautiful restaurant.
We had a fantastic and memorable dinner. I was a bit apprehensive, as there’s some mixed reviews. However our experience was flawless. All the dishes were good, standouts being the roasted duck and potage. We tried several (heheh) cocktails and while they are pricey, they are worth it. Service was professional, and the pacing of dishes was on point. We went at 8pm on a nice October Thursday, and the atmosphere was relaxed. Highly recommend
Great space for a wedding or fancy dinner party, food and staff are excellent and the space feels tucked away and intimate while being right in downtown Healdsburg.
Barndiva has been a favorite for years! The food is consistently amazing and the servers are always friendly and helpful in sharing tips on new and exciting additions to the menu. There is no better way to spend a nice afternoon than sitting out in their gorgeous outdoor space, enjoying a glass of wine and a nice meal. If you've never been to Barndiva, I hope you go soon. You deserve it!
This place just gets better with every visit. Lovely outdoor dining atmosphere. Prix fixe menu is wonderful with the wine pairing!
Barndiva was the perfect place for our welcome party. Honestly, it could have been a wedding on its own. The Studio Garden was absolutely stunning — lush greenery, soft string lights, and that quintessential Barndiva magic. It created such a warm, inviting atmosphere and truly set the tone for the rest of our wedding weekend. We hosted a two-part event: an intimate dinner for 30 with our wedding party and immediate family, followed by a cocktail-style celebration for around 100 guests. The transition was seamless. The service was incredible, and everything felt effortless on our end. The food was outstanding — we received so many compliments about how delicious everything was. The bartenders were excellent, knowledgeable, and added fun energy to the night. Guests raved about every part of the experience, including the cocktails. We did a few signature drinks and they all came out so well! Overall, Barndiva made our welcome party feel magical. It was the perfect kickoff to the weekend, and we couldn’t be more grateful to the entire team. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a place for a welcome party or wedding.
We had our wedding at Barndiva! Is such a beautiful space. The staff was excellent. We didn’t have to do much except book the place and they made our special day happen and it was more beautiful than we could have ever imagined. The backyard for the ceremony was perfect (pictured). To top it off, the food was excellent. We had many guests tell us it was the best wedding food ever. We had the we had the steak, which was insane, but many of our guests said the salmon was cooked to perfection.
We hosted our rehearsal dinner and welcome drinks at Barndiva, and it was absolutely perfect. We rented out the entire restaurant for our smaller dinner and then opened it up for about 130 guests for a welcome drinks reception — and from start to finish, everything exceeded our expectations. The food was fantastic (our guests were talking about it all weekend!), the cocktails were perfect, and the service was truly impeccable. The outdoor area, which is already beautiful, was styled with extra touches that made it look somehow even more magical. A huge thank-you to Susan, who guided us through the entire process with so much warmth, patience, and professionalism. She made everything easy and stress-free, which was such a gift during a hectic wedding week. We and all of our guests were beyond impressed. I would recommend Barndiva to anyone — whether you’re hosting an event or just looking for an incredible dinner experience in Healdsburg, it’s simply perfect.
I’m honestly surprised this place doesn’t have at least bib gourmand. The food is stunningly presented, absolutely delicious, and service is wonderful. We went after a day of tubing in the hot sun and our party of four thoroughly enjoyed our meal. The chicken tikka masala, the chicken, and fries were superbly executed. Really well-made tasty food. I didn’t try the food for the other couple but they gobbled it up - the burger and the trout. It looked excellent. We’ll definitely be back.
We enjoyed some amazing cocktails at the bar with Buck, who was so knowledgeable and friendly! Their infusions artfully mixed by Buck were so refreshing and unique! The Drink, BDs Manhattan, and You are Time were all stellar! The ambience here is amazing & we highly recommend! Thanks to Buck and the whole team for a wonderful experience!
Cannot recommend this place enough as a venue! My jewelry shop “falling for dainty” is located just across the street so I knew I wanted to have my wedding here. Their attention to detail is amazing. Susan, their event coordinator has the best communication and made the entire process so easy! The evening was magical and all the servers were so attentive. The grounds, the food, the customer service 10/10! Thank you!!!
I give this place a 10 out of 10! Took my friend here for her birthday and we had a great meal bottle of wine and fantastic dessert! I would definitely recommend this place if you're not in a rush! This place is meant to be enjoyed over a long dinner and nice conversation. My friend and I were able to do exactly that. We had a great evening. Thank you!
Amazing brunch 😋 can’t wait to come back for dinner! We ordered the fried chicken toast (it’s crunchy on the outside yet tender on the inside) and omelette (it’s very tender inside and sauce is so delicious that I had to order a brioche toast to soak up the sauce). I also ordered a belly rum shrub (beautiful and refreshing). Restaurant’s interior is very cool.
My husband and I had our wedding at Barndiva this past weekend and we could not be happier with our entire experience. Barndiva's in-house coordinator, Natalie, went above and beyond to make our dream wedding a reality. Since Saturday, we have heard from over 30+ individual guests that our wedding was hands down one of the best weddings they have attended due to the AMAZING food, great hospitality, friendly staff, and overall smooth experience from start to finish. Couldn't recommend Barndiva enough for a wedding, or even a simple lunch or dinner. We cannot wait to go back soon!
Amazing Restaurant, Ambiance, Wait Staff, and especially food! Great spirits selection, but ensure you have someone making your drinks who know what they are doing. Restaurant is a farm to table, and use creative colorful ingredients to accent your food. This is fine dinning, but not stuffy or pretentious. We bought our 3 younger kids, and they accommodated wonderfully. As you can see from other pictures, the decor is a mix of Modern and Rustic. I would highly suggest visiting this restaurant, when in Healdsburg. It is a couple blocks off the square. Reservation is also needed.
Great ambience, albeit somewhat pricey. The food is good, but perhaps my expectations were too high given the michelin star. The tots are whole small potatoes with delightfully crispy skin, and the breads were also delicious. But the other dishes seemed to be pretty normal. Tasty, but not memorable.
Service was great and place is cute. I saw on website they had 1 Michelin so was a bit apprehensive when seeing menu. Not sure if this is a different format that the 1 star restaurant or the same, but not sure this deserved a star. Food was good...we split a variety of items. Croquettes were the best. We enjoyed our time there and prices were good. Just confused about 1 the star as I don't think place warranted it but overall good experience.
Drinks were incredible, especially their Manhattans
It’s hit and miss for us. The starter( on the house) was very odd to my taste:pudding-cream brûlée with strong shrimp 🍤 taste. I could not finish my bite. The fist course from prefix dinner was pretty good if not impressive; the second- potato with cheese was a disaster- over salty cheddar dry harsh brown(?). The main dish and deserts were very good. Gratitude was automatically included, why?
We came here to celebrate my mom’s 80th birthday. It was good, just not the exceptional meal that we hoped for. Most of the portions were small, except for the chicken (which is huge!). Service was fine. It was Manuel who was the star of the entire experience. He radiates warmth and humor, plus he knew my mom from the old days at Bistro Ralph. That made her feel special.
Went here for brunch on a Sunday. Great food, great setting, great service. My wife has a duck confit -- which was tasty -- but the accompanying potatoes were a little underdone. I had the "filet mignon burger", which was really a high-end steak disguised as a burger, with fries disguised as potato chips -- very clever!
I went for brunch on vacation in the area. The building is well adorned and had a nice feel to it. The food was all excellent, I had the Croque Madame, which was excellent, along with fries, which met expectations. Everyone else in my group also enjoyed their food. Service was good, and it wasn't very crowded when we were there was no wait. My one complaint is that for a while we were under the impression that both restrooms were occupied as they both were locked, it turned out however, that they were vacant and someone had simple locked them and forgotten to unlock them. This was by no means a major concern, but certainly an annoyances for those who had to use the restroom. Overall, a pleasant experience I would recommend to anyone in the area.
Loved the food. Definitely worth a visit!! Service side has been hit or miss. Some staff has been wonderful, others less so. Was declined being able to taste two different wines (that are sold by the glass) before deciding… on my birthday no less. Was odd, we’ve done many times before and pretty common. Another occasion we had asked if we had ordered enough food for our party since some portions can be on smaller end. We had been told yes and the mark was way off. We are lighter eaters in general, but the dishes were hardly enough for one and was a busy night to order more.
I recently celebrated my birthday here and it was a great choice. It’s not fine dining the cottage core decor is a little pretentious the service is meh…but the food is excellent. You can tell the care and attention they put into each dish. The ingredients are fresh and some grown on their own farm. We tried many different dishes and I’d recommend them all. For starters we had the very popular goat cheese croquettes (delish - highly recommended for good reason)the winter salad (pomegranates, persimmons, greens….so so good) tiki masala and pomme frites were bothe delicious and for dessert the hazelnut puff pastry and strawberry sorbet. Barndiva is a great choice for a special occasion or just a nice evening with friends and family!
The outdoor patio area is family friendly. Enough space for kids to blend in, and my girl enjoyed walking around and looking at the water feature. We had the burger and fried chicken sandwich though the portion sizes felt small given the prices. Nevertheless, both were tasty. Do try the cocktails. The Bloody Mary came with some dehydrated tomatoes which was really interesting and delicious. This place is nice though on the pricey side - take note of the 19% service charge which does not include gratuity.
Beautiful outdoor seating with nicely spaced seating arrangements. Incredible burger and fried chicken sandwich but for $20 I’d expect at least a small side dish instead of ordering ala carte for sides. Nice lemonade too! Text and phone call ordering for a contactless restaurant experience.
Good but not great. When we arrived, we could not hear the hostess because the music was loud / she never made eye contact while speaking to us. Our table was wobbly, super distracting…. We ordered the steak dinner for two- French fries were too salty and offered without any sauce. :-/ The creamed spinach was amazing and the star of the ‘steak dinner!’ And steak was disappointing… they didn’t ask us how we like it cooked, the steak knife wasn’t sharp enough to cut a steak, especially on a wobbly table, and the light was so dark I couldn’t see where to cut the steak to avoid another mouth full of steak fat. I also wish they staggered the delivery of dishes as ‘fancy’ French fries are so much better piping hot, as is the spinach, and cold steak fat … ?
Came to Barndiva with high expectations; left disappointed. I was expecting a first-class dining experience, but that was not to be. The food and service were just OK, if that. A simple question to the waiter about a particular bottle of Cabernet led to a nearly comic interlude in which he immediately summoned the sommelier, who boasted he would find us the ideal wine for our meal, once we decided on the entrees, then disappeared. The starters arrived -- croquettes in some kind of savory honey glaze that were ok (a cheese ball is a cheese ball), a salad nicoise with mackerel that was good but so small a portion a mouse would have walked away hungry -- but the sommelier did not. Then he showed up, we told him our entrees (duck and trout) and he effusively recommended a wine to pair (a Bruno Clair Marsanny), and we said, sure. Then he disappeared again. He came by a few minutes later and told us they were still searching for the bottle. The Marsanny finally arrived along with another server, who was officious nearly to the point of satire, and proffered the bottle like he was about to pour a Chateau Le Tour. He poured and... Meh. Honestly, I've had $50 bottles of pinot noir far superior to this apparently well hidden $130 burgundy. Then the food arrived a minute later. My duck was good, but not $48 good. My friend's trout dish was similar -- adequate but hardly outstanding. And that was it -- just bird and fish, with no accompaniment. (The only side offered on the menu was mashed potatoes, hidden below the desserts.) The desert (a wine and chocolate combo -- essentially a rich mousse in the shape of a candy bar) was excellent. And the waiter comped us each a glass of a Sauterne-like dessert wine for their wine screw up. But for $350, we could have done a LOT better. Sorry Barndiva, not going back. And to the Michelin guide folks who just gave them a star: What in god's name were you smoking?
Group of five celebrating wife's birthday. Service was average and waitress seemed bothered by our questions about the menu. Food was not up to par with similarly vetted restaurants of reported quality. One of our party had duck which was cooked to a chewy texture. Hamburger was greasy and bun was soaked. Salads were fresh and excellent as was potato leek soup. Portions were small. Overall not at a level of restaurants at similar price points. We had all enjoyed The Matheson much more.
Beautiful place but the brunch was very underwhelming. I hope they offer lunch on Saturdays, as the brunch menu is limited. We were almost going to walk out because we didn’t have a lot of options. Ordered the green goddess salad- which at $20 was the most ridiculous, for a bunch of raw things that was put together. There was no flavor, and we had to make our own dressing on the side— had to ask for salt, pepper and honey mustard lol! The lamb burger was disappointing. The patty lacked flavor, and was very dry. Where are your flavors?!! The saving grace? The basket of croissants we ordered- fresh, flakey and buttery. So good. Everything else was disappointing and will not visit again.
Service did not seem on par with price or reputation. Ordered a $18 cocktail and when it was delivered, a fair amount was spilled onto the table by the server. Server commented on it but no one ever came and cleaned up the spill. So, each time drink was picked up it would drip. When bill was delivered, it was placed on spill and became soaked and almost unreadable. It was disappointing that the croissant and pastries were not available and we were not told until we ordered. My wife ordered the steak frites. Only after we had started eating was any ketchup/ dipping sauce offered. Also the hollandaise sauce on the steak started to separate which made it less appealing. The coque madame was well prepared and delicious. They automatically add 20% to the bill as a fair worker fee. I don't understand why they don't simply pay their workers more and set their food prices accordingly.
For a Michelin starred restaurant, I was veey disappointed. The sevice was non existent. Hostess drops us off at the table and that was the end of the service. We had to text our order in to get fed. No follow-up on how our food was or any contact. Covid was taken too far. My filet was cooked ok, but no taste of grilling, topped with onion mush and fries just thrown on the plate. No signs of love or presentation. My wife got the lobster salad for $30. It was pretty, but only 6 bites. Should have been on menu as a starter. Texted we were ready to leave and wanted our bill. Got a text back that they're are charging the card we used to secure our reservation, and helped themselves to a generous 19% tip. I have owned a large catering company for years and was really let down by this place. This is the first negative review I have ever written on yelp, as I think you should confront the restaurant about any concerns, as no one was interested in me at the table. Sorry I have to write this but I'm hoping this will help me move on from this experience.
We booked based on what we saw on the Michelin app. We were informed at a winery tasting the day before that they had changed their concept. Well, it was very underwhelming. The tuna tartare was good. Bucatini was fine and so was the fried chicken. We had two orders of the steak frites both ordered medium rare. One came medium rare and the other came medium well. We sent it back and then they gave us an extremely rare steak. Who gets a Michelin star, rebrands, and then can’t cook a steak? I don’t know. Best thing was probably dessert. Nothing was horrible but it was very disappointing.
Visited on Christmas Eve limited brunch menu. To my surprise they had a gourmet hotdog on the menu tasty a little too much sauce on the dog. My husband ordered a chicken toast which was tender chicken breast on a flavor toasted bread. The cocktails are amazing! Recommend reservations I over heard reservations could be a month out. Love the atmosphere can't wait to visit during the summer I bet it's beautiful outside.
Let me start with this is a 1 star Michelin restaurant. It did not feel like a one star. When I made reservations about a month ago, I told told them of my dietary restrictions. They called to confirm reservations day of and confirmed my dietary restrictions of no dairy, gluten or spicy. I was assured the chef could prepare something for me. Upon arriving to the restaurant, there is no coat check. Odd but ok. I informed the waiter of my restrictions and he said the chef doesn't like modifications. Finally he told me I could have the hamachi crudo with no serrano oil. After a few more times of saying the chef doesn't like to make modifications, we agreed on duck for my entree. My husband got the pasta and sea scallops. There was no desert for me to eat. I am shocked this place has a star. The attention to detail is not what I'm used to seeing. The unwillingness to accommodate people with food sensitivities also shocked me. The food was good but not star quality. The service was soso, I had to keep asking for my water to be refilled. The somm was the best part of the evening. So knowledgeable and friendly. He's the only reason I gave 3 stars.
Barndiva was highly recommended and we were really disappointed by the food. It is nothing special. We were disappointed to have spent so much on a meal that left us wanting more as far as flavor and experience. Service was great but it did not make up for subpar food.
Had a "later" reservation on a Sunday evening. It was clear the staff rather wanted to go home than stay longer to serve another table properly. The prix fixe menu was rushed through in under an hour. Apart from that, the menu was uninspiring and certainly not on par with that of a Michelin star restaurant. Maybe one dish was interesting, the rest was mediocre as best. As we were having dinner the staff were clearing the tables, cleaning up the restaurant for the night, and switching off the lights outside. Certainly not something that eludes a warm, hospitable, and welcome feeling. At a total cost of around USD 400 for two, completely overpriced and not worth it at all IMO. To add insult to injury, I had to point out the price of the bottle of wine on the bill was incorrect and not in line with the price on the menu. I wish we had tried another of Healdsburg's many options for our dinner on our second night there.
Honestly I’m confused how this place has a Michelin star. After being sat 10 min late, it took another 15 min for someone to even say hello. That was only the start of poor service all evening. Our water glasses sat empty for 5-10 min at a time. Our entrees took an extra 25 min to bring out. They decided to comp 2 drinks due to the long wait time. Now let’s talk about the food. It’s mediocre at best. Definitely not inventive, definitely not worthy of a star. Value is there but if you want an outstanding experience, goes elsewhere. There’s a reason this place is not reviewed well. I don’t know who they know at Michelin but it makes me seriously question their guides and reviewers.
I feel this food is trying too hard. The flavors were not there, produce bland, and although I believe fish should be undercooked it should not be raw unless it is sushi (it was trout). For the price, I’d much rather hang in the bubbles bar at Cyrus or just chill over at lo and behold - $150 per person plus drinks was NOT worth it. Finally the venue had great volume but a tad fussy and tired. So much potential.
I hesitate to leave this review. I had eaten at Barndiva twice before and my meals were exceptional. This time I booked lunch on a Fri at 2:30PM. My fault I didn't read closely enough (it was very unclear) but it seems only the brunch menu is served on Fri at lunch. We arrived at 2:00 early for our lunch and were welcomed. After that things went downhill. We asked for the full wine list they were hesitant. We ordered a bottle. I selected the soup and then the lamb. My guest the Reuben. Before I even finished my soup they bought our main courses. We finished eating and declined dessert but I asked for a double espresso. We still had more wine left. They brought the double espresso immediately and asked if we wanted to take the wine with us. I said no we wanted to finish it at the restaurant. We did as my espresso got cold (It was only 2:50 20 min after our reservation was scheduled to start). They asked if they could bring the check when they brought the espresso. I said yes. He forgot to include the espresso,. He informed we of that when I offered my credit card. I asked if he was asking me to pay for it in cash. He said no he could add it in. They had already included a tip in the bill we left nothing additional as we were hurried out of the restaurant at 3PM. They should never have accepted a 2:30PM reservation if this was such an imposition. This was far from the one michelin star dining experience we expected. And far below my previous exceptionally experiences at this restaurant. I was shocked!
My mom and I visited Healdsburg for the 1st time for her birthday, and Barndiva was our first dinner. It had been recommended by friends so I had high hopes. Unfortunately, expectations were far from met. It took a minute for us to get greeted at the door, which was fine but not ideal for such a nice place. Once we were sat it took so long for our waitress to come over I thought she might not know we were there. I will say, our waitress was incredibly nice, but also incredibly inattentive. I am a millennial and do not like to complain or bother because I worked in the service industry for a long time. Even by my standards, it was not acceptable. The original plan was to get a glass of white wine with apps and a glass of red with entrees. However, our apps came before the white wine did and then literally everything came all at once. There was no pacing or coursing at all. We got goat cheese croquettes, garden salad, heirloom tomato salad, and bucatini and they all came literally at the same time maybe 5 minutes after ordering. The heirloom tomato salad advertises "whipped burrata" which was absolutely non-existent and the whole thing was flavorless, even for tomato lovers like us. The pasta was super flavorful, rich, and delicious but a portion large enough for a 2 year old only, not a single grown adult, let alone for sharing. And it was $30. The croquettes were great and the garden salad was good too, just kind of standard. Since everything was rushed and served at once, we opted out of the red wine and had no chance to order it anyway. The restaurant knew we were there to celebrate a birthday but did not offer dessert or anything at all. After all that, we waited for the check for at least 20 minutes. Overall, this place has a good reputation and we were super excited and then super let us down. It seems maybe a bit out of date? Or like they prioritized other tables or guest experience over us? This was our least favorite meal experience in Healdsburg by far.
We were very disappointed by Barndiva. It came highly recommended by a friend and unfortunately the food and service did not live up to expectations. Service was very slow with no apologies or acknowledgement of the wait time (which was less surprising when we learned a 20% service charge was included in our bill). Our entrees took over an hour to arrive. We got steak frites and the burger. Steak frites were good but not exceptional. Burger was over done and had a strong horseradish flavor. Do not understand how this place got a Michelin star and would not recommend.
This restaurant recently moved to the building next door to the actual barn. We had heard that the vibe wasn’t the same but we decided to bring some family here anyways. The ambience of the restaurant felt pretentious. We were there on a Sunday at 7pm and it was mostly empty. Then again we were able to get last minute reservations for a group of 7, in hindsight that should have been a sign. The service leaves much to be desired. Our waitress (from the main photo) was rude and unwelcoming. The food itself was good but the portion sizes were very small. I don’t think anyone in the party left feeling full. I would not recommend this place.
Terrible service, food was sketchy...a couple of good dishes, but most were unsatisfactory. We could not believe this restaurant was given a Michelin star! The ambience was non-existent and our waiter brought the check while we were still eating.
Someone call Michelin and get their star back! Terrible service and lame atmosphere. We both ordered the burger; imagining the juicy, perfectly seasoned, gourmet burger from the last scene of “The Menu.” What we got was a well done piece of meat. The toasted buns were actually burnt on bottom. It was smothered in some sort of reduction that was basically sweet Gorilla Glue. It was so sticky that after the first bite I took a drink and my finger was stuck to my glass; it almost spilled. We had to eat the burgers with a fork. The fries were pretty good but they are ala carte; we ordered two sides of fries and server didn’t bother saying they were family size sides. The $100 bottle of local cab was exceptional.
This evening, I was with a group of 6 with a reservation for 6:45 pm. We arrived at 6:30 pm to find the restaurant at about 40% capacity. We were seated immediately and shortly after, an employee came and brought 6 glasses of water. Thereafter, we were completely forgotten for about 45 minutes after we gave our drink order. One of us was so tired of waiting, she actually ordered a drink at the bar and was immediately attended to. At 7:50 pm, more than an hour after our arrival, 6 tiny complimentary appetizers were served. They honestly were not good. We then proceeded to wait another 20 min for dinner to be served. It never happened. I spoke with the server who completely understood why we chose to walk out after paying for the drinks. I left the server a 20% tip as I don’t think he should have suffered for the complete ineptitude of the management. It was obvious that it never occurred to the manager, at the very least, that he or she should have at least made an appearance. I find this absolutely outrageous and unacceptable. We all remained cordial and courteous throughout this very unfortunate experience. I have close friends who own gourmet restaurants with whom I shared this incident. They both completely assured me that the manager involved would already be looking for another job
Not a Michelin-star experience, Food - not exceptional. Service - good mood but lack of attention to details as we had to pour ourselves the wine and water, the first course took a long time to arrive to the table. We had been in restaurants with 1, 2, and 3 Michelin stars where you can feel the quality of food and service, not at Barndiva.
