Asteroga Alehouse Herkimer Reviews
Excellent food and drinks..great specials.. server and bartender was awesome!!
We drove out to Herkimer last night for our son’s travel basketball practice and needed a place to grab dinner and relax while we waited for him to finish. We were hoping to find something decent… and ended up finding a gem instead. Asteroga Ale House was exactly what we were looking for. The service was fantastic, the atmosphere was welcoming and comfortable, and the portions were huge. I ordered the prime rib sandwich, and it was absolutely perfect. We also got the beef nachos, and when they brought them out, they basically covered the entire plate. They tasted just as good as they looked. This place checked every box for us. Great food, great service, and plenty of it. Safe to say we’ll definitely be coming back again… and probably bringing friends next time. Tip for anyone going: bring your appetite!
Absolutely love this place. Jessica was our server and she is the best! Couldn't ask for better, more friendly service from someone. I'd give her 10 stars.
I frequently visit this little bar restaurant whenever I’m in town. The food is delicious, the bar is clean and the staff is always friendly kind and curious. Every time i go there to eat they are always busy yet somehow Jess never seems to miss a beat. It’s really quite impressive because she manages to work the bar and wait tables running back and forth without letting your drink go empty. The food is delivered as soon as it hits the end of the bar and you’re never left waiting. The kitchen staff is always fast and on point, a never a disappointment. Hands down I would highly recommend this diamond in the rough for some American bistro style eats.
Never been there before but we had gone to the Utica zoo and then decided to get something to eat and we found this place, food and service was great!!! seriously, definitely plan on going again it's worth the trip ❤️ prices were very reasonable ❤️
I had the best and possibly the largest salad in my life, topped with the most flavorful moist tasty grilled chicken. I couldn't fit my leftovers in the container! Great service, cool place, friendly people nice town. Reminded me of the place I grew up. Will visit again next time im in the area.
We had a burger, fries and 10 chicken wings... Great food, nice place. We happened to pick this place while driving from New Hampshire to Ohio. Good choice
Maxine was our server, she was super from start to finish! We had several dishes from the Calamari to the Italian Burger to the Bacon Cheddar Burger, Roasted Red pepper Gouda bisque, Tuscan chicken panini, Buffalo Mac and Cheese, the Everything Wings were to die for BTW and the taco salad. The guys had some craft beers and the blackberry strawberry cider. Great atmosphere and place to stop while traveling through..... Service top notch, food even better!
Asteroga. A very fine establishment that is a bit of a hidden gem in Herkimer. I have visited here countless times now. I strive to see consistency in a restaurant environment, of which Asteroga delivers. They come up with very unique specials that are always delicious. I love me a good burger and Asteroga has many different ones. One visit I tried their "sliders" which were really three smash burgers packed full of brilliant flavor and talk about juicy!! Another burger I tried was the Cowboy Burger I believe they called it which was a burger, onion rings, fried pickles, and pulled pork all one sandwich. I could hardly smash it down enough to fit in my mouth. The flavor of it was phenomenal, everything blended together perfectly and melted in your mouth. One of their weekly specials is Taco Tuesday where they offer $3 tacos for dine in customers at a certain time on Tuesdays. Let me tell you, for cheaper than you can get a taco from Taco Bell, you can get one at Asterga which is astronomically better. Wonderful flavor and packed full of meat with some lettuce, tomatoes and other toppings. Let's get to the wings. You want some amazing wings at below market price? Head down to Asteroga on thursday wing nights where they have 75cent wings or on Sundays during football season. The wings are so delicious I will order them even if it not during these days because I am craving them. The only thing I wish they had was fresh cut fries. The fries they have now are pretty good, but nothing beats fresh cut and if anyone could make them really well, it would be Asteroga. Despite having a bar, Asteroga is sill an amazing spot for the family. I go there a lot because of the inviting atmosphere they have every time I walk in. I can sit down, put my stresses aside and enjoy an amazing meal with amazing service. I have gone there both with my family as well as with buddies at the bar and every single time I go in, I have an experience that makes me want to come back time and time again.
To start with Jessica was a great waitress. Good personality, efficient and helpful. Just happen to swing by for wing night. These wings are top of the list as far as the wings I have tried elsewhere. I got 20 extra crispy and hot. The flavors and spice were perfectly balanced and tasty.
Very funky little Restaurant and Bar with a great tap selection! Nice variety of IPA, domestics, porters, etc. Wait staff was excellent, and the food was classic American, it did have a very cool original spin! Soft pretzels and cheese were very good, and the wings were perfect! Sandwiches were generous and delicious. Will certainly be back when we are in the area again! Good music and atmosphere!
Stopping in after bike riding to cool off and grab a bite. Both the Waitress and the Cook were on top of their game and served up a mixed platter of cheese sticks, onion rings, waffle fries and chicken tenders with four sauces (ask for the Zinger sauce if you like it hot). Perfect for two. Had a 0.0 Heineken which is really good and my wife enjoyed a local Cider, that was equally tasty. Will definitely come back next time we are in the area.
I have to say today was our last time at Asteroga. We’ve spent thousands here over the past 6 years but everything has just gone downhill. They have some sort of “boozy shake” listed right on top of the drink specials (strawberry/chocolate for Feb, mint for March, now “peep”, etc) and every time we come, they don’t have ice cream to make it. I end up getting a water when I wouldn’t mind paying the $15 for the shake because it’s actually good. The wings have been horrible (our fault for thinking they’ll get better). Today, we got half wings? Mini wings? Not sure what to call them but $18 for 10 wings and 4 out of 10 look like the photo? That’s awful! We asked for all flats and were told no because the owner is there. We ended up with ALL but ONE wing and 9 drums and this happens every time. I wouldn’t mind paying extra for the flat wings too. The pretzels (3 for $10) are now microwaved apparently. Fruit flies are everywhere! I’ve said it before, but this time I mean it. I’m not going back! Oh, and if I find the photo of the last time we got wings, I’ll have to post it. It was indescribably gross!
The place is clean and attractive. Prices not bad, food edible. We got takeout. The person on the phone got irritated and hung up before I was done talking. They said 35 min, it wasn't ready, we had to wait 15 more min. They didn't give us my wife's chowder. I caught it before we left. She argued with me, and took 10 more min to put it in a to go bowl and give it to me. The fries, coleslaw, and chowder sucked. The seafood was adequate. Not going again. :(
I ordered a Tuscan Chicken Panini from Asteroga House tonight and this is what I was served. When I complained I was told “we don’t even have a panini press”. Then why on earth do you have a panini on your menu? Larry the cook also refused to remove it from my bill, so I paid for something that I didn’t order or was even able to eat. No offer to make something else, nothing! Bad business just lost an entire family of frequent diners. Now I’m headed to Sorrento’s in Ilion where they know how to cook and how to treat a customer.
