The Chequers Hook Reviews
A fantastic little pub with low ceiling but packed with history and atmosphere. Good selection of beers and food on the menu, and a large outdoor dining area. I would recommend if you are dining indoor on a Friday night to make a reservation. The baked cheese was a great starter, and the fish n chips perfect.
Excellent service Delicious food Dog friendly It was a lovely pub to visit They did a fantastic job in serving a group booking Clean toilets and two sets of, at both ends of the pub and restaurant. A lovely outside setting A recommended gastro pub Shaded areas if required for dogs outside The chequers is set in a lovely country location to go for a walk either after or before dinner Free parking in a fair sized car park
We were so happy to find an open place on Sunday evening. The vibe was great and the staff friendly. It was pretty full and busy which is always a good sign. We had 2 courses each with a drink and coffee afterwards and spent abpu 35 Pounds each. It was worth every penny....the food was delicious, beautifully presented and a pretty good sized portion. I'd love to come back....
Really enjoyed my first visits here, had a fab breakfast in a great setting with super lovely friendly staff, my friends have recommended returned for the Sunday roasts as apparently these are also amazing! I will definitely be returning thank you!
We chose the Chequers for an evening meal to celebrate after our register office wedding ceremony with a small group of friends. From the first contact the staff were extremely welcoming and helpful. We were given a private area to eat in. We were asked if we wanted to decorate the area - in fact we were too tied up with other arrangements to do this, and when we arrived we found that the staff had done this for us, including personalised messages. We were really touched by this. The food and service were excellent, and good value for money. Particular thanks to Charlotte and Laura who were our main contacts.
Excellent excellent food and a very friendly welcome. Service was excellent also. Was recommended to try the Beef Wellington and we were not disappointed. The best I've tasted by far . The whole experience was 1st class. Will definitely be going back . Highly recommended.
Great location, 5mins walk from the back entrance to horse shoe lake so perfect place to finish off a nice walk. Lovely and comfortable outside seating overlooking a local cricket ground. With blankets and cushions offered for extra warm and comfort. Lovely, welcoming and friendly staff. The food is absolutely delicious and there's a great choice of specials. We had the Hake which tasted so fresh and full of flavours. The Korean style potatoes were a complete delight to taste and explore and the soup to start was mouth watering. The staff really went beyond the call of duty to make our experience amazing, we wete their to celebrate me passing my degree and it was the perfect place to it. The wine was delicious and the beer range was varied. Nothing like a refreshing hogs back tea after a long walk. The prices were reasonable and even though there's a road close you hardly notice its existence, I highly recommend it.
Had such a lovely experience here this afternoon with my best friend and young son this afternoon for my birthday. It was a beautiful sunny day, the service was excellent and the meal was very tasty and cooked to perfection. I highly recommend this pub and will be returning. Thank you!
All brilliant here. Lunch , yeh it's just great here, food really good , atmosphere just right , staff awesome, breakfast is also spot on , real ales , this pub is all you need.
A great place to eat and meet with friends. I’ve had family dinners and dates. Yesterday’s lunch was taken over a long afternoon. So nice to be able to relax in a place like this
1st class service, beautiful surroundings, sublime food. Worth every penny. Defo our new fave place to eat out. Thankyou so much!! Quick response from the staff due to a car & bicycle accident just before we left....well done.
Amazing roast dinner today and such lovely friendly staff. Outside seating area is great too. Made my day when they came around offering extra roast potatoes and Yorkshire puds too! What a bonus 🌟
Nice gastropub with good choice of food. Staff were really friendly and very engaging with our child. The interior was well laid out with a good amount of space between tables. The food was better than it often is in these type of pubs. What was particularly impressive is that they offer to make any child dish as a smaller version of the adult version. This means there is so much more choice than the often very limited children's menu. There is a reasonable amount of parking but it was full shortly after we arrived. Not sure if there is other parking nearby. Highly recommend.
Excellent Friday lunch Pub was much quieter than expected (a bonus) Service, by Laura, was exemplary Good choice from the specials menu (items not listed below) Photo is my starter - Crab & LeekTart with poached egg
We had yet another fantastic meal at The Chequers at Eversley. Becky our waitress was very attentive too & interacted with us. I was a chef myself in the late 1980's then front of house & progressed to Managment too. Just one comment The salt & pepper 's were either empty or pepper in the salts! We swapped on other tables & the others were all the same!!!!!!
One of the best Sunday Roasts ive had in the UK, absolutely massive portions with all the taste, also loved the pudding and potato top up service! Lovely cozy pub.
Loved all the food. Will definitely return if in the area again 👍
I asked for an iced coffee, even if it was not on the menu they were more than happy to make me one,and it was delicious
Lovely delicious food in a nice environment.
Great food and atmosphere. There was a singer outside on night we were in and our food was lovely.
Good date night at The Chequers, went for the lobster which unfortunately wasn't available but had the crab instead which was very tasty. Staff were all very accommodating and friendly, atmosphere was brilliant.
A lovely proper pub atmosphere in a beautiful setting. Helpful friendly staff who looked after us incredibly well. Even with my fussy requests they were kind and patient. Thank you 😊
Such lovely food!! Especially the sticky toffee pudding. Would definitely recommend :)
Great atmosphere, lovely staff, fantastic food. We were a party of 12 and all the food came out together & always hot! Good variety of food very tasty. Staff were funny and efficient. A place with a long history that the staff are happy to tell you about.
Absolutely outstanding roast, super accommodating for a meal with a newborn baby and lovely atmosphere with very attentive staff!!! Will be returning soon 🙏
Fantastic traditional pub with modern sensibilities. Food and service is brilliant. Perf ct for cosy winter nights by the fire or warm summer days in their lovely beer garden
Lovely place, staff are great and I've never had a bad meal here, can't go wrong!
We were received well upon arrival and immediately seated to our table. The food portions were generous and the quality of food was amazing. The waiting staff, Freddie, Lucy and another young lady were very attentive and friendly. Really enjoyed the ambience.
Sunday roasts are absolutely amazing! Service was really good and the armoured was good, nice sunny day and the team were very friendly and attentive, even came back with a check back board with extra Sunday trimmings too, would recommend. Served by Laura, Freddie and Amber
Great food and atmosphere! The drinks came out a bit slowly, but only because they had an issue with the order printer. This is a MUST visit. I absolutely loved the steak pie! The chicken schnitzel and burger was also delicious 😋
We recently hosted our daughters 1st birthday party in the chequers outdoor space. The communication, booking, on the day support, food, staff were all 5/5 service. Thank you so much for helping us celebrate. I would highly reccomended booking with the chequers for events.
lovely sunday roast and lovely that they brought round extra roast potatoes and yorkshire pudding's
Didn’t catch the guy behind the bars name, young Aussie bloke with a mustache. He was very friendly and helpful and made us feel very welcome. Starters came out super quickly and were really good. Little wait for mains but not too long. The hake and chips was spot on, really crispy batter, delicate fish cooked perfectly. Chips lovely. I’m guessing the tartare sauce is made in house and it was delicious. Very good food and will definitely be back
You can’t go wrong here. Beer is good. Food is good. It’s a regular staple of people in this area and highly recommended. You can have a great family meal here or a romantic dinner. It’s a classy place and a focal point of the area. Even cool people go there as well, young, old and it’s a really nice place to eat/drink at. It is more expensive than other places but really quality place to be. Oh and they do breakfast as well.
The staff are welcoming, attentive, polite and friendly. We went on midweek evening. it was a quiet time of the place, with good numbers of people coming for a meal. We liked our foods. I wish they had more variety of soft drinks with less sugar in it to choose from. The sourdough bread taste was different from the ones I usually get from M&S or Lidl. In general, we enjoyed our foods and their warm service. Thank you. I would highly recommend it to others to visit and try the foods.
Booked here for my mum's family celebrations. Nice cosy pub helpful staff enjoyable food and daily specials board we all enjoyed roast dinners and came around with extra which never seen before! The car park is extremely busy so this needs some improvement for the future especially in the autumn / winter months!
Great local pub, good range of larger, ale and Guinness. Range of red and white wine. Food smells good will have to try next time. Great Xmas tree
Very impressed with the cozy area we got just for us. Good music, great atmosphere, wonderful service and the food was delicious. The pictures says it all. Will definately book again!
Nice venue, good decor, pleasant staff. Menu reads well unfortunately the end result doesn't live up to expectations. Lacked flavour and finesse.
Loved the low roof beams. Good atmosphere. Nice mix of people. Great fire place. A rad English pub
We had a great evening there the meal was nice the sea bass l had was very nice and the staff very helpful, just one problem the nibbles ordered arrived at the same time as the starters it did not spoil the evening.
I visited for lunch today with my family. The menu is definitely priced at the gastro pub market. I had roast dinner which was nice but a bit disappointed with the very small roast potatoes. There wasn't enough gravy either but to be fair the staff offered us more gravy and potatoes but it was unclear whether this was at an additional cost. My daughter had fish and chips and I tried the chips and they were cooked nicely. For desert I had sticky toffee pudding and although the cake was nice and moist there was hardly any toffee sauce. A small jug on the side would have been a nice touch. Overall it's a nice pub, staff were very attentive and nice interior. I have to be completely honest there are other gastro pubs in the area that provide better food in my opinion.
Very good in some ways but spoilt when my drink didn't arrive for 10 minutes whilst food had arrived Very Swiftly.
Went for Xmas lunch Food was tasteless - prawns Dry - sea bass Coffee - very bitter
Good full English breakfast and good coffee at a price. That was four years ago and I'm still a local here. I've not had breakfast here since then. I tuned in to say I can not recommend the fish and chips, honestly it's tasteless. I made the mistake of ordering it again after promising myself I would not 3 months earlier. No change, it tastes like water, expensive water.
Unfortunately our favourite place let us down today. We had to wait nearly an our for starter which was not very hot, the fish I had a few months ago was delicious, not so today so much batter not a lot of fish.did not stay for dessert. Most disappointing as a friends birthday. To top it all not impressed with the lady who served her attitude not good, so disappointing….
Not the best Christmas roast meal I've had to be honest. Last year was much better. Portions could have been bigger, hotter and the lack of Yorkshire pud... Chease cake wasn't great either, tasted better from Costco.
Drove 60 miles to meet a freind for breakfast. It was busy so happily waited for a suitable table but it took 15 mins to get cleared. Asked the waitress if it was table or bar service. She said she'd come back and take our order. 10 mins later we went to the bar to order. Breakfast arrived and the poached eggs were hardboiled, the bacon was undercooked but the sausage was fantastic. Unfortunately, the plates were cold so the food became cold quickly. Tried to complain but no-one was round so had to go to the bar. I was told we would get more eggs but as the rest of the food was cooling we said no and please adjust the bill. Ordered more drinks, only one came so had to go back to ask again. Went to pay the bill and was told £3 had been taken off the bill which I queried so another £3 was taken off. So disappointed with the whole experience.
Food awful . Pork on the specials board . Really tough. We should have complained, but just decided not to go there again
I'm afraid to say that after a really nice meal a year ago my recent return was awful. I ordered the steak and ale pie for £19. For that price I was expecting a home made pie. What I got was a commercially made effort with a crust like cardboard. Reheated mash potato and few spring greens. Awful.
