We went on a night where we were the only customers. It was a nice surprise. We did a tasting of chef's choice. The food was amazing. It was amazing to try some very new things, and the plating was beautiful. The flavors were harmonious and I was quite surprised. My only complaint is that for 4 people, we did not leave full for $75 a person. Each of the dishes before we're for 4 people to share.

This place is amazing! Best meal I've had all year. Did the tasting menu with the wine pairing and everything hit perfectly. Staff is great and super friendly. Couldn't recommend it more.

Wow. What a surprise. We tried the no reservations option. Savory food brought out (chefs choice) till you are full. For the three of us it worked out to a 7 course meal.

Attended the soft opening and got to enjoy their inaugural tasting menu. The first of eight dishes, the Jicama Tetela, Prawn Carpaccio was the start of a delicious experience. The combinations of textures and flavors flowed nicely from one dish to the next. Some of the seasonings all of which were made in house, were new to me and honestly wanted some to take home! Every course was presented beautifully with generous portions. The husk cherry, stroopwafel with foie gras was the last course and a perfect way to close out the delicious and filling dinner. Hard to choose a favorite so I hope each one makes it to a future a la carte menu. The service staff were all friendly and en pointe always attentive without being being intrusive. We were seated at the counter with direct view to the kitchen and it made for an interesting backdrop to the great meal. The ambiance was thoughtful, casually refined with beautiful textures, colors and mural artwork. Located on the corner of Franklin and Travis near the theater and court districts, with pay parking lots and metered street parking. Looking forward to my next visit already!

Barbacana is such a great new spot in downtown Houston. The vibe is amazing—cool atmosphere, great music, and it really feels like Houston. The wine recommendation was perfect, and the food was incredible. We did the tasting menu and left completely full and happy. Can’t wait for the à la carte menu to drop so we can try even more. The staff was super friendly and attentive, and they made the whole experience even better. Definitely coming back soon!

Lovey experience at Barbacana. We went for our anniversary and the service, food and drink were exceptional. Very creative dishes. Wagyu carpaccio, a vegetarian dish for the wifey that looked like a play on ramen and was delish. Pork collar and some amazing desserts and cocktails. Highly recommended!!!

I just had the pleasure of dining at Barbacana, and I can confidently say it was one of the most memorable meals I’ve had in Houston. From the moment I walked in, the warm yet modern ambiance set the stage for what turned out to be an incredible culinary journey. Chef Christian Hernandez’s menu is nothing short of spectacular. Every dish is thoughtfully crafted with bold flavors and an impressive attention to detail. The Prawn Carpaccio was delicate and refreshing. Each bite showcased the chef’s creativity and passion for sustainable, Houston-inspired cuisine. The service was just as remarkable as the food—attentive, knowledgeable, and genuinely excited to share the experience with guests. And the wine list? Absolutely fantastic. With 70 carefully selected options, it’s easy to find the perfect pairing for every dish. Whether you’re celebrating a special occasion or just want to treat yourself to something extraordinary, Barbacana is a must-visit. I’m already looking forward to my next meal here!

We came to Barbacana for our anniversary and were seriously impressed. The chef’s tasting menu was the way to go — each course was distinct and thoughtful. The curry course was especially unique, and the Texas wagyu was perfectly cooked and full of flavor. Pastry chef Priscilla’s corn-based cake was a real highlight — unexpected and excellent. Shoutout to Jake, Matthew, Michael, Ziad, and Christina for making it feel personal and relaxed. Small crew, top-tier experience. We’ll definitely be back.

First and foremost let me say, all of the photos are taken from videos. My apologies for not truly capturing the moment. But honestly, how could you with food this good. Every time they dropped a dish we were so eager to dive in. Hands down one of the best diners I've ever had! We quite literally had everything on the menu. The only thing not shown here is two desert options we had and the chicken which was probably the best chicken I've ever had at a restaurant. I never order chicken at a restaurant but this chicken is highly recommended. The snapper, pork, duck everything was impeccable! I mean they replaced my napkin maybe three times throughout the diner. Talk about incredible service. Barbacana has all the ingredients to become a Michelin star restaurant. Wishing these guys all the best. We will definitely be back soon. Can't forget to mention we brought our 6 month old daughter and they staff was so nice and accommodating.

The most spectacular place to dine! Went here for Valentine’s Day, and everything was perfect from the hostess, waiter, food, drinks & ambiance. There wasn’t one thing we ate or drank that we didn’t enjoy. 10/10 place and would recommend for a date night any time. 👏🏼🌹

The atmosphere is amazing from the moment you walk in. It’s a very sophisticated and warm place which made our dinning experience top tier. The wagyu carpaccio was heavenly, the braised lamb ribs delicious unlike anything I’ve tasted. My favorite however was the peach semifreddo. It’s like dying and going to heaven. I felt like I was biting into the perfect peach! I wish this restaurant the best and will definitely be coming in again very soon!

He was super attentive - food was on point - so mad I was so busy stuffing my face and engaged in conversations that I didn’t snap pics of the food. Recommend the duck !! And waygu carpaccio, snapper. Ambiance is perfect for a lovely evening amongst good friends.

Barbacana is such a great addition to Houston’s dining scene. The food is excellent with really creative, thoughtful dishes that feel elevated without being overdone. Everything we tried was full of flavor and beautifully presented. The restaurant itself is gorgeous—warm, stylish, and perfect for a night out. Definitely a spot I’d go back to!

Had lunch here Thursday, the food was amazing! What I was impressed with was the different varieties of food (we ordered the "No Reservation' menu) and the very creative taste profiles of each dish. Highly recommend.

Went to Barbacana yesterday for a work event with passed bites and WOW — the food was incredible. Every bite was packed with flavor and I kept going back for more. The shawarma and tomato toast were absolute standouts — so delicious and perfectly done. And the desserts… out of this world. I loved the strawberry shortcake and the Earl Grey tea cookies (so good!), and even the brownies were amazing. And that’s saying a lot because I’m not usually a big dessert person. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and memorable. Can’t wait to come back!

We recently hosted a client dinner at Barbacana with a party of 10 and the entire evening was outstanding from start to finish. Chef Christian Hernandez put together an incredible experience. Every course was thoughtful, beautifully presented, and delicious. The wine pairings were perfect and reasonably priced. This was a culinary experience, not just a client dinner reservation. The service was just as impressive. The staff did a great job walking our table through each course, explaining the ingredients and pairings, and keeping everything running smoothly for a larger group. The pacing was spot-on and the attention to detail didn’t go unnoticed. Chef Hernandez brings the experience of someone who has worked in Michelin starred kitchens, and it shows in every course. If this is the standard he’s setting at Barbacana, it wouldn’t surprise me at all to see the restaurant earn that kind of recognition soon. It was a perfect evening for our team and our clients. We will absolutely be back.

Been to Barbacana a handful of times for both work and leisure, needless to say only have good things to say about this place. The food is truly one of a kind, Chef Christian really sets the bar high and his experience is showcased in every bite. Food like you’ve never had before, at least here Houston. I would recommend this place for anyone who is looking to try real good food that isn’t an imitation of another restaurant in the city. Everything here is original. Great to impress out of towners!

The service is exceptional. All staff are friendly and attentive. Went for lunch and it was not busy. I got the duck confit bao buns and the butternut squash. The food is just absolutely excellent. For someone who can't tolerate too much heat, the food is perfectly balanced. My only complaint is that I wish I could've eaten more but the portions were so reasonable and for a very good price. I did end up getting the fig crostata for dessert and it was superb as well. The pastry is just so flakey and delicious. And I loved the spices matched with the fresh fig. They also have a pretty good cocktail program as well. I am very excited to try every single dish. If this place was next to me, I'd be there 3-4 times a week.

Amazing spot. The food was fresh, full of flavor, and came out fast. The staff was friendly and actually paid attention, which made the whole experience even better. The place has a warm vibe, and everything tasted like real care went into it. Easily one of my new go to restaurants. Highly recommend.

Delicious cocktails (even when I ordered off menu). Food (foie gras tart, duck breast) was delicious. Save room for the Korn ice cream dessert (and thank me later). UPDATE: 2nd trip was every bit as good as the first. I think the Denver cut steak was even better than the duck.

Barbacena has an exciting menu with a large variety of flavors. We had a great time but I felt there were some execution errors. The tuna toast with the sardine was absolutely awesome. That was my highlight of the night! The duck was also fabulous! The only complaint I had is that the wagyu steak was chewy like it was not rested long enough and seared off right. There was a piece I couldn’t eat. Maybe just a bad cut. The spring peas were good but overpowered by the greens. Service was great and the reserve wine pairing was good. I’ll wait a while before I try it again though to see if the kinks get worked out.

Interesting experience here. Was excited to grab a drink here after receiving some disappointing news. Ordered a glass of bubbly and got the lightest pour I’ve ever had. I asked the waiter about it and expressed that I’d had a hard day, to which he didn’t acknowledge or correct. It was an easy fix. I wouldn’t return here or recommend it. As someone that hosts up scale experiences, you simply fix it when a customer is dissatisfied.
