Cafe Brussels Houston Reviews
This was an amazing little place. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The food was great. This place is low key and very deceiving from the outside.
We had a wonderful time at Café Brussels in Houston’s historic First Ward! Walking in felt like stepping into a cozy restaurant in Belgium, with its vintage decor, classic bar, and even a little Manneken Pis. The Moules Curry and a perfectly chilled Duvel transported me back to Belgium, bringing up so many wonderful memories. My husband and I shared the vegetable platter (plat de légumes multiples)—a perfect blend of flavors. He had the Steak à Cheval, a Belgian classic with ground beef patties and fried eggs (he chose scrambled). The frites, served with authentic Belgian mayonnaise, were spot-on! We finished with the Waffle Liégeois au Spéculoos, a real treat! What made our experience extra special was the warm and attentive service. Our server’s suggestions were perfect, and I enjoyed chatting with the owner, Catherine Duwez. Merci, Catherine, for the warm welcome! Café Brussels is a rare find: authentic food, cozy ambiance, and truly kind staff. We’ll be back soon!
Fantastic laid-back atmosphere with amazing music. Definitely recommend the Brussels Burger (Bleu cheese burger) my husband said it's the best he has ever. Great service too. We will be going back frequently!!
I’m so happy I discovered this place — it instantly became one of my favorite cafés in Houston. Stevie was our server and gave fantastic recommendations. I had the chicken sandwich, and my companion ordered the soup of the day (carrot), and both completely exceeded expectations. Each dish had a subtle complexity that felt thoughtful and intentional — the kind of food you can tell was actually cooked in a real kitchen, not just assembled. The atmosphere is cozy and welcoming, and the staff genuinely cares, which makes such a difference.
Catherine and her crew never fail to create a wonderfully welcoming experience when you dine here. The mussels in white wine and garlic are to die for and don't forget about the perfectly crisp frites to go with. There’s many reasons why this place has been around for so long. You'll see!!
This place is a true gem. Look no further for your favorite spot. Amazing food, great variety of beer and top service. PLUS it makes you feel like you're in Brussels! I am happy to drive from cypress any given time!
Truly phenomenal experience dining at this restaurant. Employees and owner demonstrate exceptional customer service that is quick and very attentive. The food quality is also equally phenomenal, every option was well seasoned and cooked to perfection. The inside decor looks like your old school European cafe, perfect choice to give off a cozy vibe for cold days. There is parking in the back of the restaurant, though make sure you park in this restaurant’s reserved spaces. There is also a back door here so no need to walk all the way to the front entrance.
Before my husband passed away. This was always our favorite place! My husband's father was from Belgium and the mussels here are as wonderful as the ones I've had in Belgium. The owner is an amazing person. We love her. We watched her walk out front and feed a homeless veteran a big breakfast. She is kind, fun and serves the best food. In fact. I look forward to going there again soon! Just great! Merci for helping us make good memories there sweet lady!
Fantastic little cafe! Went for dinner service on a friday, parking is in the back and shared by three businesses, so it was a bit difficult to park, but it was well worth it. The escargot (order of 6) were delicious, the garlic butter is great on the bread ;) so make sure they don't clear it off your table after. I ordered the Moules Catherine tasting sampler, while my girlfriend got the Bouchée de Poulet. Both stellar! They have a fantastic beer selection, I recommend the St. Bernardus Wit for a bright, light, delicious drink. For dessert you can't go wrong with some profiteroles, they are served with ice cream and a very rich dark chocolate syrup. Will definitely be returning to try their lunch menu! Also, the owner is a gem, hard at work serving tables and taking orders which in my experience is quite rare.
My husband and I stopped by this cafe for a quick drink and bathroom break. What started as an impromptu visit turned into a memorable experience. We had the chicken croquettes, chocolate moose for dessert, and sample flights. The bread was freshly baked and perfectly crunchy, and the service was impeccable. The staff was very attentive and gave great suggestions. It was my first time trying croquettes, and they were some of the best comfort food I’ve ever had. I can’t wait to come back.
Went here for Sunday brunch. Wasn’t crowded and got seated immediately. Enjoyed the decor and the general ambiance. They have an extensive beer menu, but just got some coffee this time. Ordered a croque madame - enjoyed the food very much. The dish was filling and I did not leave feeling hungry. Would like to come for lunch/dinner service next time.
This is my favorite restaurant to go to. I have been going here for over 13 years and the food quality and atmosphere has not changed. The owner works her butt off taking orders, cleaning tables, delivering amazing French/Belgian food that makes you want more. My favorite dish is the white wine mussels as an app, Chicken Cordon blue as the entrée and the chocolate mousse for dessert. Get the chocolate mousse!!
I like everything about this place. The service is amazing and everyone is so nice there. Everything I ordered there was very good. I specially like the scargot. I love other dishes as well. The waffles with Belgian chocolate is to die for. The ambiance is European. Oh yes, they have variety selection of beers. The best of course the Belgian Beer.
I visited this Belgian restaurant with my family for my birthday, and it was an unforgettable experience. From the moment we arrived, the service was outstanding—friendly, attentive, and truly top-notch. The food was simply exquisite, with authentic flavors and impeccable presentation. Every dish was prepared to perfection. The drinks were also amazing, perfectly complementing the meal with delicious and well-balanced options. The location is excellent, making it the perfect spot for any occasion. Without a doubt, the best choice in the city to enjoy authentic Belgian cuisine. We will definitely be back!
Oh my word! Do yourself a favor and come here to eat. The nice is great and service amazing (thank you Kayla)! We got the Chicken Sandwich, Onion Soup (even if you’re not a fan of this normally, you’ll be converted by this one), Steak Heche’ (oh my yes) and Mussels Escarot (what a presentation). Beer menu is great and there’s a decent wine selection. It’s a little bit of an art gallery too so that’s fun! Parking in the back and plenty of room. Went on a Sat at 12:30.
We have tried their brunch and it was a good value. We loved their snail, complimentary bread with butter, and above all, try their Belgian waffle!! It was our favorite of all time!! Will go back justfor that. The ham which left something to be desired due to the texture not creamy. Good service and easy parking.
The food is good here. Relatively authentic Belgian taste (don’t expect flavors in West european food). But I will definitely give a star less for a bad service. Everything’s take too long, barely getting any attention from the staff, instead you will get low key attitude. To be fair, this is also authentic European experience… Place itself is cute and has cool interior design.
The mussel sauces were clearly pre-made and nothing special. The fish I was served was honestly the worst fish I’ve ever had. I asked for the check immediately after the first bite. The staff simply brought the check without asking if there was an issue, which tells me they are used to this and are fully aware of how poorly the fish is prepared. If you don’t want your evening ruined, don’t go.
