Chopan Kabob House Houston Reviews
Both elegant and subdued, this was my first try at Afghan cuisine and I loved it. The teka beef kabob was tastefully seasoned, and had a surprise tang to it, which paired really well with the brown rice. The location is moderate in volume too, which is always much appreciated.
This was my first time attending this restaurant and the food surprised me with how good it was. The lamb was extremely tender and the staff were constantly walking around to make sure we were ok. Everyone was very friendly and professional. The floors were very clean everywhere even while the restaurant was crowded. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for good food.
Our go-to place when we want some Afghani food! Their food is always consistent.. The bolani, kabuli pulao and chapli kabab are 10/10!! Highly recommend.
The eatery is located in a very convenient spot in the ranch area. It was easy to find, and there was ample parking. The atmosphere inside was clean and comfortable. Overall: If you're looking for an excellent halal meal with great service and an easy location, look no further than, highly recommend for birthday parties or any kids events.
Do I have enough words to praise their food? Lemme try. This is the sort of place where everytime, after having dined, I have returned with a distinct gratification. The gratification of the sorts of home cooked meals but from a different culture. The spices and flavouring is closest to authentic, ambience humble and friendly, even if not most luxurious, staff cordial and options limited but who needs too much when you can't get enough of what's already offered. Oh and the pricing is decent. Not expensive at all. (I just wish they prepared Aush someday as they don't usually do that😃). Our favourites there are Chapli Kabob and Shorwa...also Maza Maza Dessert - brownies served with scoops of vanilla ice-cream liberally splurged with chocolate sauce and nuts. Do not forget to treat yourself next time you're in Sugarland in case you're looking for the most scrumptious authentic Afghani food served with a dash of simplicity.
It's good but not great or something I would specially come back for. Lots of parking, friendly service. Mantoo pasta base was a little tough, bolani was fresh and nice, Chapli kababs, charsi and beef boti were decent and naan were very good and fresh. 4 star option. Tip: Order kababs without rice and eat with naan.
Chopan Kabob House made for a wonderful meal and experience all around! They have a very spacious dining area and most importantly, delicious and authentic Afghan food and kabobs! I started my meal off with Bolani (a flatbread stuffed with potatoes and leeks served with a fresh yogurt dipping sauce). For entrees, I enjoyed the Chopan kabob plate with rice and the combination kabob plate of Chapli kabob and Teka beef kabob served with a fresh, warm naan. My favorite were the Chapli and the Teka - super tasty and juicy! All the food is prepared 100% halal as well. The restaurant is beautifully decorated with lots of authentic Afghan artifacts and a beautiful display of Afghan rugs. Chopan Kabob House also has a beautiful and big private event space that can hold 60 people - perfect for your next private event!
Once again, not much to say. I got the Finni, the Quabili Palow, the Borani Bademjan and an appetizer order of Mantoo. The only thing that was actually GOOD was the mantoo (I was pleasantly surprised). Everything else was just par for the course. The Quabili Palow was "just" saffron rice on lamb (with a distinct lack of flavor), while the Borani Bademjan and Finni had such overwhelming tomato and pistachio flavors, respectively.
Edit: We really love this restaurant, so we keep going back, and we even recommend it to our family and friends when they visit. But the last two times that we ordered for to-go, the order was a mess. We ordered Tandoori Chicken and Quabili Pallow. The Tandoori chicken was fine but the lamb shank with the Quabili Pallow was cold and it felt like it was frozen for a long time. The first time, I brushed it off, thinking it was just a one-time mistake since we ordered near closing time. But shockingly, the same thing happened when I ordered Quabili Pallow for to-go a few days later. Just to clarify, we pick up the food and eat it about 20 minutes later, so it shouldn't be that cold. I'm not sure if this only happens with takeout orders, but it definitely shouldn't be happening at all. Previous Review: I love Mediterranean food. So whenever I get the chance, I try Mediterranean food. Chopan Kabob House is an afghani halal restaurant. We have tried their kabobs, those were very tasty, fresh, and juicy. Last time we also tried the Quabili Pallow which comes with lamb shanks and yellow basmati rice. The portion of the food was large enough and the taste was delicious. The customer service was great and the price is reasonable.
Owner, thanks for your reply. Please see my photo’s. We are not confused by the location. It is definitely your restaurant. The man came out from the kitchen. The voice of the woman that we could hear on the phone spoke Farsi. A language we understand. There were no other dinner’s. He was a youngish man, wearing a baseball hat. To describe him would sound generic. Perhaps a general conversation with all employees would help. As a business owner myself I am very conscious of the behavior of my employees towards my clients. It ultimately reflects me and affects my business. Thank you for your time. We enjoyed our dining experience here in terms of the service provided by the waitress and the quality of the food. The restaurant was empty and we were the only diners on an early Monday evening. Ordinarily I would have given a 5. The only reason I did give at least a 3 is that the restaurant owner doesnt deserve to be punished by the ignorance of an employee. Here is our disappointment. The cook came out into the restaurant, walked over to the window by our table and was talking on the phone to a female. Maybe his girlfriend... who knows. In very clear English he said he hates this country! He used more colorful language than I have described it as. He made sure that we could hear him very clear and repeated it to be sure. This turned our stomachs and ruined our dining experience. Let me be clear. I'm Australian and my partner is from Afghanistan. Both of us are immigrants and love our lives here. This should never have been spoken where guests could hear it, if it had to be spoken at all. It's incredibly offensive and not at all appropriate. To the owner of this restaurant, we won't return, unfortunately. We hope this information is well received and you are able to attend to it the right way.
The atmosphere is nice, but the interior design and setup are still quite basic and feel more like a newly opened restaurant. The food is acceptable, but the flavor is not particularly impressive. Considering the quality, the prices are very high and do not seem reasonable. The service was also very basic, and more professional service was expected. Note: For dining, it is better to choose a place that offers better value in terms of food quality, pricing, and service.
Despite the old adage about avoiding empty restaurants, I decided to try this place. Unfortunately, my instincts were right. The restaurant was deserted and uncomfortably hot upon entering. We pointed out the temperature to the waitress, but she only mentioned the air conditioning was already on, offering no solution. Of the four dishes we ordered, only the appetizers were palatable. The chicken curry was awful and appeared stale. The chicken tandoori with rice was excessively dyed and had a strange, squishy texture, making it inedible. The accompanying rice was bland and completely flavorless. Overall, it was a disappointing experience I won't be repeating. The service was also lacking; we had to request plates to eat out of. A significant improvement in customer service and food quality is needed.
Hated the service tonight! payed 109 for a meal, was "shushed" because an event was happening and they were recording...so why did you open the restaurant to the public?!!!! Lamb chop looked disgusting like it was the left over and they kept shutting the door to the room they had to "hide" us in because we were being too loud....I expected the manager to comp our meal because they kept making us whisper...like I would have stayed home and saved my money had I know I was going to be mistreated. Our waitress was very understanding and it's not her fault...where are you at manager??? not one apology nothing!!! disgusting customer service I do Not recommend you give them your business...I have never felt so unwelcome in a restaurant but this place took the cake! Save your money and keep driving by this place because they do not care about customer service and hospitality at all...I expect my refund asap!
