Hughie's Houston Reviews
I went on a Friday for lunch, busy but the service was Quick inside looks nice and clean. I sat down and didnt wait long for my food to go. The Crispy Dumplings and Fried Rice were delicious.
Came here for the first time for my friend's BD dinner! This place was fully packed by the time we got here around 6:45 pm on Saturday night!!! Although the staff told us it will take 30 mins but we got our seats by 7 pm! My friends were telling me great things about this place so my expectations were pretty high and yes it was a good place!!! :) Since I didn't know I just ordered the fried rice but other friends did the speciality orders which were combinations of kale salads, seamed rice, seared tofu, garlic and onions!! I missed out but the fried rice was really good and I had no complaints of it!! Definitely will be back here for the speciality next time! Worth the time and money! And I like the vibe of this place! Keep up the good work!! Cheers 🥂
This place has plenty of seating inside and outside. The waitress was super nice and attentive. They have plenty of options for beer and wine, no hard alcohol. They have plenty of options for food, vietnamese and American. The food was absolutely delicious, all of the food had so much flavors and tasted fresh. Definitely will be back !
Awesome place I’ve been going to for over ten years. Great food, a mix of 2 of my favorite kinds of food - Texas traditional and Vietnamese. Great pho, great chicken fried steak and burgers, great banh mi and egg rolls, great stir fries, great French fries. It’s all good. A good number of craft beers, wine, and good service. Nice very family-friendly restaurant, owned by a very nice, friendly family. A Houston classic.
Love this place! It's reasonably-priced with the best shaken beef in the area. For $18, you get quality filet mignon meat with a kale salad and rice or on top of vermicelli and fresh vegetables (if you like fish sauce). The atmosphere is relaxed with a pub-like feel. Hughie's even has a kids menu with chicken tenders and fries if the kiddos don't want asian food. They have daily specials too. The full daily special on Tuesdays (the full wonton noodle soup) may not start until 4pm though. Check with them ahead of time if you're looking for a specific daily special dish that day.
My family and I have been going here for years and love this place! Everything we’ve tried has been incredible, and the service never lets us down! We had Ethan on the patio yesterday and he was so knowledgeable of the menu and willing to help my aunt with all of her questions, as this was her first time here. They earned a new repeat customer yesterday!
Placed an Uber Eats order my first time trying them and it was everything i expected. I order 2 spring rolls that were delicious and the beef fried rice. Looking forward to eating here again but next time we’re dinning in.
5+++ out of 5+++ Stars! Hughie's is the best! From getting to-go, to dining in, to Catering--this Team is where it's at! To-go is always wrapped up tight & sealed to perfection and executed timely & delicious. Dine-In is such a vibe with tons of screens, taps, amazing food, top notch service, and family friendly. Catering is above and beyond--with quality, fresh, distinguished dishes, and above & beyond catering care. Victor, the GM at the W. 18th location, made sure to make our companies Holiday Potluck perfection! He was early, everything was hot & fresh, all items accounted for, all flatware/utensils/paper products and sauces included, and he brought everything upstairs and completely set everything up for us! Seamless execution! Hughie's is a neighborhood favorite and a Houston staple for our team & families! Shout out to everyone at the W. 18th location and the Catering Team! Keep up the good work! Check them out, you will be impressed, and leave with a smile & a happy tummy.
My friend and I visited for lunch after hearing great things from a coworker. We ordered a grilled beef banh mi and a sautéed chicken banh mi to go and shared both. The beef was excellent and the chicken was good. Dying to come back and try more. The service, however, felt a bit chaotic. When we walked in, staff shouted “sit anywhere” from across the busy room. Two servers were standing together—after we told one we were there for a pickup order, the other repeatedly asked if we wanted to sit and whether we were there for pickup, even though we had already explained we were being helped.
Hands down, best chicken vermicelli I’ve had in years. Chicken was cooked to perfection with lots of flavor. Of course I added Siracha, fish sauce and Hoisin but I add that to everything. 😝 Traditional spring rolls were super fresh. 👌🏽 Will definitely be back to enjoy some drinks on their out door patio along with their good food. Highly recommended!!!
Very different! Good different, offered a wide variety of craft beers! Their lunch special was worth every penny, appetizer and entree for $15. I chose the spring rolls and grilled pork vermicelli(sub noods for salad, it was great) What's unique about this place is they offer not your typical hot oil, i has the ghost pepper hot oil with the perfect amount of of spice!!! They offer jars of hot oils for sale in the flavor of Carolina keeper and Trinidad peppers I would definitely return.
Quaint and casual neighborhood restaurant. There is a variety of food here from Vietnamese food to burgers. The Vietnamese eggrolls are very tasty. The burger is big and juicy in the fries are crispy and delicious. The salmon was cooked perfectly and so flavorful. The service was attentive. The parking lot is small but free. Have come here multiple times it’s great for a quick and tasty bite.
This place has made it to my top 10 favorites! We stopped here for dinner and left 100% satisfied. We ordered the Crispy Pork Dumplings, some of the best dumplings I've had. We ordered the sweet chili wings, they were so crunch and full of delicious flavor! Thinking about the wings makes me want more. The shrimp fried rice is also pretty good, the shrimp are huge and cooked beautifully. The egg roll was nice and crisp but could use a little flavor. The vermicelli was a large serving with perfectly cook meat. The beer is unique and there are plenty of options to try. The food was amazing, we will be visiting this place again and very soon!😁
I had always gone to the North Main location. This location is as good. The food is reasonably priced and very tasty vegan options. The shaking options seem to be the specialty. Chili lime sauce with a high sweet note.theres a full. bar and large craft beer selection. The set vice was friendly and prompt my Friend enjoyed the shaking chicken. A good first choice in an area chuffed with first choices. Ample parking eclectic building a former fast food place. The patio is dog-friendly. If your not ready for a restaurant yet curbside and take away options Revisiting great food decent house Cab . I had one of the vegan options seared tofu . My flexeterian the chicken and rice I enjoyed the spring rolls she enjoyed her chicken and rice A first choice for Vietnamese food in Oak forest.
My Hubby's favorite place to eat😂. Food is great I always get my usual fried wonton, skaken chix vermicelli and THAI TEA🤤. He loves his sweet chili wings and more adventurous on his meal than me. But his go to same as mine and he really likes the fried rice with crawfish and something else. Its only available on certain days but he really liked it😂. We highly recommend Hughie's!!
Update: Service was average. I’ve been coming here for 11 years now and I really do love this place. That said, my last couple visits in the restaurant felt a bit heavier — the food was much greasier and extra soy sauce was added to my shakeen chicken plate without me asking. Still one of our favorite spots, but maybe worth keeping in mind for folks with stricter diets or health concerns. Hughie’s is one of those places that just makes you happy. Their chicken fried steak is my absolute favorite—crispy, tender, and full of flavor. I never thought I’d rave about kale, but theirs is seriously so good. The shaking chicken and beef have so much flavor and just the right kick of spice. You can really tell everything’s made with love. The staff is always so kind and welcoming.
Hughies is known for their shaking beef and it did not disappoint!! My only complaint was I wish there was more of it in the vermicelli bowl... The plates had a lot more beef so I felt like the bowl was kind of lacking. The salad itself was refreshing and crunchy, perfectly dressed. The beer selection was great and the yuzu ginger had a great zing to it. Service is seat yourself and we were served very quickly. The country fried steak was large and absolutely smothered in gravy. They also have heaping portions of salad. It was hard to eat it all which is a good problem.
