Mi Sombrero Houston Reviews
Always a good experience, amazing food, amazing service, even with a full house I sat down within 5 minutes, friendly staff
I’ve been coming to this restaurant since I was 13 and I am now 53. Live their # 1. I love their salsa and chili con queso. Lots of great memories.
Fantastic Mexican food, better than most restaurants I've been to, and very affordable. Good sized servings, great staff and atmosphere
What a gem! Mi Sombrero is what I hope for when I’m craving Mexican comfort food—fresh tortillas, spicy salsa and food that feels like a hug. It delivers delicious food with friendly service. My partner and I had the carne guisada and carnitas rancheras—generous portions and full of flavor. Can’t wait to try it again.
I can’t believe I’ve lived in Houston all my life and never eaten here since this place has been here for over 40 years. The food here is so flavorful and fresh and reasonably priced to boot. The staff is super friendly and welcoming. The decor is simple but comfortable. This place is a new favorite.
A hidden gem of a Tex-Mex restaurant. Delicious food, low prices, and the waitstaff are golden. It's definitely a hole in the wall, but definitely worth visiting. Laid back atmosphere and cheap food and beer. My first visit is definitely not my last. My highest recommendation, BRAVO!!!
Somehow, Mi Sombrero had missed my TexMex radar for a long time! So I decided to head over and check it out. I was not disappointed! First off, the chips and salsa. Fresh and warm chips if just the right thickness served with an amazing warm salsa which was a red brick color. Honestly, one of the better salsas I’ve had served with chips. Of course I had to get a combination plate. I got their number one, which offered two enchiladas, a queso doused tostado, crispy beef taco, rice and beans, and an avocado/guac salad. The guac was fresh and bright, simple recipe without a lot of extra stuff thrown in. You can definitely tell the beans are homemade and oh, so creamy! Excellent rice, cooked just right. The beef taco was seasoned well. The enchiladas were also good, but perhaps the least favorite of mine on the plate. Maybe just my palate, but the cheese made them a little rubbery. But excellent gravy on top and they offer them with fresh onion on top if you want. All this with endless, fresh tea! Service was prompt, friendly, and attentive. Automatically offered a “to go” tea with my leftovers box! Will be back to explore the menu further!
Another spot I will be coming back too. Popped in this little gem after the gym on a saturday morning because it's down the street. Walked in and was told to take a seat because the place was hoppin.…

Amazing Tommy's tacos. Yummy food. Looks like a hole in the wall but sooooo worth it! Been coming here for years and never disappoints. Friendly staff as well.
Great place for some great food and amazing service. Best salsa I've ever had and the Tommy tacos are always delicious. I've been eating here for close to 25+ years and it never disappoints.
Everything is good and staff is awesome \nCarne guisada tacos and Tommy Tacos are good. breakfast is perfect!
It was good food, not the best I've had. I judge by chips and salsa (really good), what kind if hot sauce they have on the table (Cholula- El Yucatan would've brought up the star rating) and beans & rice. They were good, but the fajita meat was under-seasoned. Service was fast and friendly. Price was fair considering market price for food.
The Huevos Rancheros were pretty good, for $6.99 you get 2 eggs, refried beans & potatoes (the bacon was $2.39 extra). The eggs were perfectly cooked over medium, the salsa for the eggs was a bit simple but it wasn't bad, the refried beans were delicious I believe they had lard & chorizo , the bacon was thick and delicious & the potatoes were good made fresh to order but they could have used some seasoning. Both the flour and corn were pretty good in this place I would recommend flour. They give you chips and salsa while you wait for your dishes and both taste tasty. Overall I would definitely recommend this place for their breakfast, the prices are good and the staff is very friendly and attentive.
Stopped in for lunch Saturday I've been on a menudo craze, trying to find the best bowl of menudo in Houston. When you walk in you find a place to sit and the waiter will come to you with menus and chips. I knew what I wanted so just asked for a large bowl of menudo and some breakfasts tacos. She informed me that the tacos come in order of two. The menudo came out promptly and it was piping hot. It has hominy and that's a plus, however the tripe was large and cut uneven. It was all yellow tripe, the taste was a little gamey. The chorizo tacos were bland and they didn't bring me any salsa. One big plus was that their corn tortillas were home made. I will come back and try other items.
First time here, located inside a small shopping center, but super busy. Restaurant overall looks a little run down but dont get fool by it. Food. was great, tasty and service spot on. Salsa might be great if they serve it cold, not temperature hot I'm not a fan !.but that is just my taste. Anyways flavor was excellent . I ordered the hamburger which cm with thick slices if avocados, tomato and lettuce. Patty eas tasty and juicy. French fries on the thick cut. Freshly made . The second dish was enchilada special, chicken wirh cheese and gravy. Not my favorite mex dish but to my surprise eas Gooood. Definitely will be back for more.

We order breakfast tacos at work at least once a week. Enjoyed by everyone. I recommend the Tommy tacos.

That's a little high price The food was okay the service is all right the place was clean it's been there a long time. They could use more dinner specials and more lunch specials.
Have not been back since pandemic . Quality of food remains good. Service attentive. The price has gone up tho.
Food tasted alright. Rice needed more seasoning - we added more salt but it was still bland. Beans were ok. Service was average. My water glass was never refilled. When we arrived, it was empty and…

Located in the heights since 1978 is Mi Sombrero. This spot is like 2 mins from my spot and it drew my eye. In a land of Salatas and Cavas, an old school joint in a shopping center with pot holes makes you go 👀👀👀. Parking isn’t that bad here lol just make sure your suspension is solid. We walk in and we sit down. A little Hispanic girl comes and takes our drink order (def doesn’t speak English) and then our server comes. I should’ve known when they don’t do single tacos, green salsa, and only have that Tex Mex red piss water salsa they give to white people that something was wrong. Fajita and Eggs 5/10 - the meat might as well have been jerky. Rubber. The potatoes eggs and beans were alright. Tortillas too. That meat is almost inedible. I’d say it might be salvageable with salsa but again. They only do the red soup water. My god. I don’t know how this place will be open for 40 years. Do yourself a favor and do your part to make sure it doesn’t by not going. Follow me on IG Eats_By_Puig
At a table of four, we only ordered aguas frescas… which tasted more like “tap water” than the Flavor we ordered. The flautas had older, awful-tasting chicken. The tacos were eye-catching because of their handmade tortillas, but the meat was dry, tough, and tasteless. The menudo was subpar. Tacos Tommy’s pretty bad meet too, we all agree! We paid the bill of a NO good quality restaurant. They talk about quality and authentic food. It doesn't exist there. Overpriced! Way too expensive for what it is. Definitely good for people don’t know other good Mexicans restaurants in the area!
