Grand Sichuan Hudson Yards Reviews
A great and delicious Chinese spot. Exactly what you'd expect plus a little flavor.
I usually eat shrimp with garlic souce and the first time I ate the best chinise food this place is amazing.
Very good Chinese place! Super clean and fresh vegetables, and the beef is excellent!
Great place for Chinese food. Food is delicious. Can't go wrong with any of the plates. Staff is friendly. Lunch specials are great option.
I enjoyed the chicken with eggplant. I ate it and bought the same order To Go. My partner enjoyed the Beef Chun Fung!
This place has amazing food and a reasonable price. Make sure to get the soup dumplings, eggplant with pork, and other meaty dishes.
The food was very good, unusual flavor combinations and nice level of spiciness. The service was very good and the prices reasonable.
These reviews must be for the older location on 9th Ave. at 24th St. This branch (if it is the same chain) has a high-tech Chelsea modern decor, snappy service, and some very hot, very authentic dishes (try the beef tendons in hot sauce, for example.) I don't understand what the other reviewers were complaining about, unless the restaurant at the former location has gone way downhill: it used to be very good, and the decor and service were OK.
We were there 5/26/13 and had an amazingly good vegetarian dinner. I look forward to returning the next time we're in NYC.
You should try sauteed dried string beans with minced pork and salt and pepper prawns. Also shredded pork and dried bean curd
Delicious! Order extra extra wontons w/ chili oil to freeze.
The food isn't bad and the price is decent considering the are its located in. The lunch specials are worth it at least.
First time here and it was awesome, the service is pretty good and the prices very good too, you can have a seat or take home the experience will be good.
the food is good, the price is reasonable, and the place is clean with two separate bathrooms~
My favorite Chinese food place. Love the mung bean noodles, Dan Dan noodles and the spicy shishito pepper dish
Very quick and friendly service. Food was fresh and tasty. Nice and quiet restaurant.
Delicious Hot food, and service is fast. I ordered the Chicken and broccoli. Warm, inviting, and busy atmosphere. Filling and right of the lunch menu, I paid less than $10.
I got a delivery of the general tso's chicken with a wonton soup and vegetable fried rice. Everything thing was delicious (the wontons were a bit under stuffed but the broth was still very good) and the delivery was quick. Great place if you want to quick Chinese food.
This place is a little pricer than your traditional take out spots. But worth it. Get the cumin lamb, it's fabulous, try the soup dumplings
Very homey food and atmosphere. Family run (I think) Chinese restaurant with very kind staff members and great food. One of my favorite places in the city.
This crew knows the business. Their food reflects skill. The people here smile while solving your problems. This spot offers an original experience. This place has all angles covered.
So good! The Sichuan fish fillet soup is everything.
A door to the world of Sichuan cuisine in Manhattan As a remote lover of Sichuan cuisine, you know all these Youtube foodies, right?, I was eager to visit sooner or later Sichuan place. This redtaurant is called Grand Sichuan Eastern and it is located Greenwich Village part of Manhattan. This Chinese place won me over with its delicious food, attentive service, and reasonable prices. It has simple yet tasteful decor, featuring geometric patterns on the walls and a few traditional masks and hanging fish figures. Nothing screams that this is a Chinese place, without feeling overbearing. Just hints. The vast menu was impressive, boasting a wide variety of Sichuan dishes. Vast means there are 278 separate dishes, I kid you not! The spiciness of each dish was conveniently marked by pepper images, making it easy to choose something to suit our preferences. Our first dish was the pork soup dumplings, which were loaded with broth and expertly crafted. You bite one side of the dumpling and fill it with vinegar sauce - this gives a whole new dimension to the range of dumpling tastes. The juicy and flavorful dumplings were an instant hit. Next up was the Sichuan wonton with red oil, which we ordered with a spiciness level of one pepper. Although it wasn't particularly spicy, it still had a pleasant kick to it. The dish was more like a soup, with a generous amount of broth in the soup plate. My daughter opted for the crispy salted and pepper prawns. Although there was a slight mix-up with our order, the dish we received was delicious, featuring big, juicy prawns served with a healthy portion of vegetable salad and a bowl of rice. The lunch for three, including sodas, came to about $60, which I found quite reasonable for the quality and quantity of food. It's worth noting that the restaurant only accepts cash or debit cards. I highly recommend Grand Sichuan Eastern for anyone looking to explore Sichuan cuisine. Even if you're not a fan of spicy dishes, you'll find plenty of options to suit your taste buds. Don't miss out on this not so hidden gem in Manhattan!
I took a chance on this place and I'm so glad I did. There aren't a lot of good, authentic Szechuan places in the city, but this one checks all the boxes, plus a few extra. I love that they advise they can make anything as spicy as you like, and don't give you that skeptical look that you might not be able to handle it. I told them to light me up and they did. Portions are huge; my meal could have easily been shared by 2, but I am a lonely, hungry gal so it suited me just fine. Very vegetarian friendly; I can't stress this enough. Whereas most places I only have 1 or two dishes to chose from, this place had several including the chef's selection/specialties menu. I felt very seen. I'll come back for sure; a true hidden and tasty gem!
Very good lunch special the shrimp with garlic suace was very tasty the staff was very attentive and freindly
Excellent Sichuan food. Authentic, casual, humble, great prices. Very sweet staff! I'll be back next time I'm in the neighborhood.
This is my go-to Sichuan restaurant for delivery. The Mapo Tofu is extremely spicy and delicious--some of the best I've had in the city (although heavier than Han Dynasty's equally spicy take on it). Great hot and sour soup, as well. If you're looking for some authentic Sichuan delivery, this is your spot.
This is my go to spot for Lunch. Good food. Great service. The double cook pork is delish!!
The lunch service was fast and delicious. I got the beef with spicy pepper and egg drop soup, it was great. They take credit card, which is a plus. Highly recommend
After seeing some of the reviews, I was skeptical but this place is AMAZING!!! The pal’Thai is deliciously spicy, the ginger scallion beef is incredibly crisp with a rich deep flavor. And the orange chicken is the first orange chicken I have ever had that was (1) just freshly made with a crackling flaky crust and (2) tasted like actual, real orange. Delightful and will absolutely return!!!
We’ve lived around the corner since early 2000s and have been ordering our take-out and sometimes dine-in from here for as long as I can remember. Always enjoyed and still enjoy. A simple and pleasant hello from the staff and the food is tasty. Mapo tofu is our fave!!
The fish and pickled cabbage soup is just phenomenal. The generous size and quality of ingredients really impressed me: fresh ginger, lots of vegetables and an ample amount of perfectly cooked light fish (flounder?). I can't stop thinking about it... Will be back soon!
Staff friendly and welcoming. Atmosphere a bit sparse but ok. Food excellent and more traditional. No deserts but there are sweet options to end a meal on if wanted. Will definitely go back.
I was shocked to find my old standby of 18 years closed (Grand Sichuan, 9th and 23rd); this was nearby and a good option. I'd eat there again
We have been going here for years every Friday for lunch. If you love spicy Chinese, this is your place. Only reason for only 4 stars is the service is hit or miss
Hot and delicious Sichuan cuisine. Crunchy green beans were fresh. Dumplings and Peking duck were pretty tasty too.
A regular here, for it's across from the Joyce. I kindly suggrsted they remove Duck from the menu, since they never ir it anyway.
Very authentic food, at least that's what I thought. Server was very friendly. Overall very enjoyable experience
Good chinese food, the lunch special is nice, wish they had something similar for dinner.
It was nice, actually. It was good food and a good ambience. They were friendly and fast serving.
I didn't have much here just the Pork Lo Mein and pork soup dumplings the flavor of the broth in the soup dumplings left a little to be desired but still was very good and tender. The pork Lo Mein was Pork Lo Mein it's kind of hard to mess that up
I have had some of their lunch specials many times, which I would take home. Not bad tasting at all & they're reasonably priced too. Friendly service.
Impossible to find great chinese food in midtown manhattan? Apparently not. It doesn't stand out along 8th avenue in Chelsea, but this is definitely not your typical take-out chinese. Good variety, great taste, and spice!
Nice place, good food... I go there probably 2X a month with some of my coworkers after our district meetings. Its quit and cozy for a peaceful meal.
Obviously this is highly situational, but I had great service, especially when it was just the one girl at the counter serving on a rainy night. That wasn't any issue for her or I, the food came hot and ready to be devoured. That said, this place is authentic as it comes. Keep in mind that if there's one thing they're really good at...its the sauces.... And dumplings, specifically, the Chendhu ones. No real complaints, but no place is perfect, and like that rainy night, nothing ever goes as planned, except the crispy beef and bell peppers.
Some of the dishes here are pretty authentic. The cold noodles and cumin lamb were very tasty, but the rest were kind of downhill. The scallion pancake was too soggy and the spicy diced chicken was mostly breading. It was also pretty pricey for Chinese food but probably due to the location.
Really enjoyed this Chelsea staple, but a spot that hasn't lost its sparkle. This is very good Sichuan food. Not the best you will ever have, but still very good. Loads of authenticity in the menu, with fish taking a prominent place amongst a lot of options. They also have all your standard US-Cantonese American dishes. Our selections were a Spicy Fish with Bean Curd Flower, sauteed Pea Shoots with Garlic, and Pumpkin with Scallions and Ginger.
I really enjoyed a lot about this place as it’s a clean and peaceful environment, the staff was pretty nice, and the food was absolutely tasty! I was stunned though that I had to pay a bit extra than expected for using an ATM card, but at least it wasn’t too expensive. I’m only around this area occasionally, but sometimes if I have the budget and craving Chinese food I come here and I could recommend this place for many others.
Wife and I found this restaurant while walking down 8th Avenue and looking for an Italian restaurant and not wanting to wait 30 mins for a table. Excellent food, but if you like spicy ask for dish to be extra or extra-extra spicy!! Definitely on the list for our next trip to NYC.
I finally made it here today for lunch! They have an awesome lunch special menu where for $10 you can get an entree, a spring roll or crab rangoon and a drink. I tried the sweet and sour chicken and it was delicious. The service was fast and the location is nice and chic! I will be coming here when I want a great quick lunch.
This restaurant is worth the visit. A little on the pricey side but, the dishes are well-prepared, tasty, and plentiful. Soup dumplings have always been great, cold noodles are tasty and you'll likely enjoy most of the dishes. Decor is modest and there's plenty of seating (if you can sit by the window, you'll have front row seats to an exciting dinner experience).
Honestly.. I'm really happy with my order. I usually just get vegetable lo mein because I'm super picky with meat. But I decided to order the orange chicken lunch special and I was not disappointed. The chicken is white meat, super flavorful, decent portions, and the price was amazing. My co-worker got the general tso chicken and it was also amazing. By far one of my favorite new chinese food places. Delivery was fast, food was still nice and hot!
Wow, was I impressed. We walked into a really nice looking restaurant that was empty and served some of the best Chinese food I've tasted. Fresh, deep and rich flavors, and colorful plating are just a few ways to describe the dishes served here. You could tell the dishes were authentic and the friendly staff made a point to serve up large portions and keep us full. We ordered all sorts of extremely spicy dishes and wow did they live up to the hype. For instance, the spicy sauteed beef had a heat to it that made you go slow but that heat itself had a wonderful rich flavor, and don't get me started on the Mapo Tofu! Wow! I was truly blown away and all my expectations exceeded. I'll definitely be coming back!
White tablecloths topped with white paper match a nice white and red decor and dim atmosphere. No fancy frills of garnish but flavors seem fairly authentic. I was surprised to see more exotic proteins on the list like lamb, pork blood, etc. Easy to seat groups here. Appetizers seem a bit pricey, but perhaps understandable for location. Server changed plates between courses. Brown rice is available.
This fiery spicy restaurant is a bit unexpected along the blandness 8th Ave row in catering to Chelsea boys. The restaurant was revamped with a more ‘modern’ interior and fine diningesque with table cloth and napkins. The extensive menu with choices of pig intestines and frog you might only find in Chinatown that might cater more to the Asians than the Chelsea population. The pork soup dumplings are good but skin is slight thicker than the more crafted one you might find. You have to ask for the tea which doesn’t come standard per table. We started with the mung bean noodles in chili sauce. It less noodle but chucks of agar like in a tart chili sauce. The pork dumplings were quite good but the ‘soup’ inside was a bit inconsistent. My friend bit into one where the broth came out like a burst dike. The chicken in chili looks spicy with all the chili peppers but don’t let that scare you. It is all looks. The chicken fried nicely and tender. The peppers added some heat but more in flavor. Grand Sichuan Eastern is a good pick if not wanting to head to Chinatown for some decent food. The service is much more pleasant and slightly more upscale than you get but the prices seems reasonable.
Food is incredibly mid. No flavor
Tasty and inexpensive Chinese eatery in Chelsea. Friendly and competent service. They have an A hygiene rating (I don't eat at establishments with grades below A).
I wish I can give this restaurant a 5 star. But, my food wasn't good. I ordered the sesame chicken and it taste as of they had use ketchup to make it. However, the cold noodles were good.
Pretty authentic for Sichuan in NYC. Not every dish is slathered in brown spicy goo. The decor is quite comfortable and contemporary for Chinese Resto's in the downtown area. Service is caring and you won't be rushed.
The Lunch Specials are a decent value. Overall, the food is average. The customer service is lacking. The woman who regularly manages the front desk and register could care less when I pick up food. She doesn't offer greetings or say thank you, and oftentimes barely looks up from her phone. She behaves as if customers show up to serve the restaurant.
7/3/17 - The mung bean noodles were balanced with the right level of vinegar, black bean, and peanut mix. The tendon was also nicely done and not too seasoned (MSG). The Beef Tendon & Tripe were flavorful and seasoned just right. The fish fillet in hot oil was nicely prepared with flaky texture to the fish, but the flavor was mostly in the vegetables in the base. All in all, not a bad spot. The staff is friendly and attentive.
Food was bland with no defining flavours and over cooked meats. There are a dozen better Chinese spots to go to, avoid this one.
I told them crispy general tso chicken . They gave me what they wanted to give me. They also didn't give me a fork. Too expensive for them not to listen
Food was good but the portions for the price is small, small, small. If you like restaurant hoping for a meal, I suggest Grand Sichuan. A dinner for two should be an $80.00 investment. Service is good.
With so many Sichuan restaurants in the city, this one just doesn’t make the list of places at which you should eat. The food isn’t bad, per se, but it’s not exciting. We got a variety of dishes, and all of them tasted similarly mediocre. For instance, the duck was so mild it was nearly chicken. There were hints of Sichuan spices, but for the large part, everything was basically soy sauced. After a few bites, eating became simply a task to stave off hunger, not an activity I could really enjoy.
It's a good place. I can order what I want, even if it's not in the menu. The woman who used to takes phone orders was cool with it, however, I stopped calling in because the woman who followed her would go into a tizzy over my order. So I just stopped ordering from them.
Really bland food. Ordered garlic chicken, it had no spice and no flavor.
The food I ordered was decent. Didn’t like the take-out menu prices were different from the sit in menu, although I didn’t mind. After eating and paying the waitress return with the receipt, and asked about which gratitude percentage am I to choose. I didn’t receive any special treatment, the waitressed didn’t come to check on me frequently, I only reserved a glass of water..so I find it difficult for me to give gratuity if it wasn’t earned!
The food used to be great here. We were told with absolute conviction that it is the same chef - same as when? Is there only one chef who works here all of the time? The cold sesame noodles were my favorite dish and used to be sublime, but they are no longer good. I was first given noodles that tasted like old peanut butter, and sent them back to then receive noodles too spicy to eat. They wouldn't remove them from the bill, even though they were not really edible. The main dish was similar to the past. Overall, as the dishes are expensive, and decor is basic, it's not worth it to eat here unless the quality is high. Going back to one of the other Chinese favorites.
Not worth it. Way too overpriced. Rude customer service. This place acts so cheap. It kills them to give you sauces, napkins, and utensils. Things that cost nothing they want to cry over. Even the cheaper Chinese food down the block are way generous. Spend your $$$ elsewhere. I even received an empty fortune cookie wrapper. Like who does that? I understand why this place is always empty. They treat people nasty.
If you like bland food this is an okay place. But if you like flavor and want your money’s worth then I wouldn’t recommend. The food is expensive compared to other Chinese restaurants that have better tasting food. I am not a fan of the food at all and wish I had gone to another location. Also the workers have an attitude problem, it’s not my fault you guys don’t understand well. Would I eat this food again ? No.
Service was bad the lady up front got mad because we didn't tip "enough" more was added on the card when we looked later on don't go to this place
Paid $18.18 for sweet and sour chicken with white rice ( over priced) and it was cold. They are a regular Chinese take out like the ones in the hood . But in the city and better looking. Will not go back and zag at what's so grateful about this place
In the middle of my meal a baby roach appeared on my table. Plus my shrimp wasn't cleaned properly. And my soup was bland. Avoid this B rated restaurant.
My experience dining here wasn't all that great. Found a plastic-y substance in my rice, but the waitress insisted it was the fried egg in the fried rice. I won't be eating here again.
Horrible delivery. Food was disgusting. Ordered crispy shredded beef. Should have been call soggy shredded mystery meat.
Order chicken broccoli to go , then changed my mind &’ dined in. As I’m eating the guy gonna say to leave a tip on the table, like what? He didn’t give me no type of service for me to leave a tip. This has happened to me a lot especially in buffets but it’s obvious that I gotta leave a tip, but why do they always gotta ask for it ? Makes me not even wanna leave a tip.
I called first to ask if they had lunch specials on Saturday and they said yes. When we got there a little later (2 pm), they told us they don't have lunch specials. had to spend 35.00 for two orders of slop. My son got diarrhea as soon as we left. Last visit there
Ordered through Uber eats tonight. Sadly took a few bites and had to discard. The food is just terrible. Oily, bland and lacking flavor.
I ordered beef with tofu and a couple of tofu pieces were rotten its like they cook with old food and don't throw away food that has spoiled I guess that is why their pricing is acceptable you get what you pay for I bought it to attention of mgmt and they spoke with Cook then came back to me and did not apologize or give me a discount just gave me my bill like nothing happen Never again eat at your own risk
Food wasn’t well cooked it was raw then the dude try to force me n my coworkers to get a tip we wasn’t having it, the dude in there was being ma loud so we just left bad service their was also a good amount of flys around the lights and going around me and my boys food never again.
Service was good ..I got take out but the food was horrifically awful I felt sick afterwards aswell. Don't ever get the chicken tso. I should have went to panda express 🤮
Ordered Szechuan Pickled cabbage Togo. Received boiled cabbage with chili oil. Called when I got home and realized what I received. They responded with that’s what we have. (Not what I had in the past) This place has lost its charm. Not good anymore. Don’t bother. (Sorry to say used to be good)
This will be my first and last time. The old lady at the front desk has such an attitude with everyone inside. And you have a question about the menu she just might kick you out. Food took over 25 minutes to come out, and only 3 tables were full in the whole restaurant. All that for my food to come out wrong. Never going back
We entered through the door and received no attention. Then, when we asked for the menu, they rudely asked how many of us there were and treated us poorly. There were four of us, and one of us needed to use the restroom. We were discussing leaving because of the mistreatment, and when we left, they started an argument with us because one of us had used the restroom. Terrible customer service.
Not a very welcoming/understanding establishment, the place was empty i paid for my food on my lunch break only told i could not sit and eat there without tipping the waiter prior to receiving my food or being allowed to sit. Now the pricof my food alone was 14 bucks for chicken and broccoli ive tasted FAR better. If you want good Chinese food check out ANY spot in Brooklyn i promise you. Its half the price you wont be disappointed, and there is no tip required.
The cold noodles were ok tasting but a VERY small portion, and no garnish such as scallions, cucumber or cilantro. It looked like that they absolutely did not care about the food they put out. $1 worth of noodles for $11. The Hot and Sour soup was incredibly bland and almost like jelly with too much cornstarch. The Chicken with garlic sauce was supposed to be spicy but was just drowned in a way too sweet sauce. Worst of all, I got a piece of chicken that was raw!!! When we told the server, they feigned ignorance then said they’d let the chef know. Spoiler alert, they did NOT take it off the bill. This is my local place and I’ve been eating here both in person and take out for many years. Mediocre food is bad enough, but I can’t afford to also get food poisoning from raw chicken. I will not be back.
Good local spot. The food is ok and the service is fair. Handicapped accessible entrance and seating. Unisex restrooms are available. Conveniently located in the Chelsea district and easily accessible by train, bus or walking. Street parking is available. Oh, by the way, my friend got food poisoning after eating here with me.....
Used to be one of the highest rated Sichuan restaurants in the country. The food was excellent! NOT ANYMORE! Hot & sour soup was like glue and inedible. Had to throw it out. Orange chicken that used to be amazing, dry as a bone, flavorless. Prices went up, quality went down. And very unfriendly service to boot. The simple Chinese takeout Golden Wok a few blocks up has surprisingly surpassed them now in much better food.
It was the worst restaurant experience of my life. Big NO. The food was horrible and I got food poisoned. I would never recommend this place to anyone again ever. Skip it. The service was horrible. The staff was rude and slow. The food was cold and the presentation was messy. No bueno. Pictures proofed, GRADE PENDING.
DO NOT EAT FROM HERE!! I bought chicken and broccoli with white rice and I found RAT POOP IN THE RICE. I called the restaurant and she told me that she doesn’t want me to go back because I would scare off the customers!!! But I still went back because I wanted a refund (which she gave me) and she smelled the rice and jump (because it had a smell to it as well) . Now my stomach is hurting . SMH this will get you sick !!
The worst... the sesame chicken taste like Heinz ketchup and its not crispy at all and its way over priced for the quality of the food. Probably could have made this myself . Your better off ordering from your local Chinese takeout and pay 8$ than this .
We ordered from here but the food had no flavor so we won’t be ordering again and it’s a shame
Ordered pork dumplings and spicy chicken w Chinese broccoli. Delivery through Grubhub. This was by far the worst food I’ve ever eaten in NYC (not just Chinese or Asian). I fail to understand how this place has a 4-star rating. Dumplings were made of flour that felt like play dough ; they were closer to burritos than dumplings. The meat inside was very dry and tasteless. The chicken felt like rubber and the sauce was ALL SALT. There was zero flavor, leave alone spicy. We threw everything into the garbage. A completely horrendous Sunday dinner. Oh and yeah, I cooked mildly spicy food and ate that after, so I know I haven’t lost my taste or got COVID.
I would give 0 stars if I could. I went to this establishment on my lunch break. I was in the mood for something soft, after a dental procedure, the day prior. Lo Mein came to mind. I've passed by this establishment many times throughout the day and thought "why not"? I was treated terribly as soon as I walked in. I begrudgingly placed a small order. When handed my order, I was given open plastic utensils (normally they come in a closed pouch), in a to-go bag. After asking for a new set, I asked to dine-in. I was told that I could not dine-in, even though the place was empty. After reluctantly allowing me to stay, the hostess, angerly, pointed to a table that would have sat me in direct sunlight on this VERY hot day. After what felt like pleading for a better seat, I finished my small meal and asked for a way to properly dispose of my leftovers. I was told to take my garbage with me. When asking for clarity, the hostess pointed to the outside of the establishment shouting "no tip, you throw trash outside!". This has left an INCREDIBLY bad taste in my mouth (no pun intended). I work at a near-by health facility and will allow my coworkers to know of my experience at this establishment.
Had chicken with Garlic sauce the food is average at best. The chicken had little to no sauce. There are better Chinese food places in the city. They also forgot all the other sauces (duck sauce etc) Also the portion size is small compared to the other Chinese places which has been many.
