Last year about this exact time I bought a 6 pack of beers for $6!! Also ate some great food after a trek up to lone pine lake! Honestly I might be back in a few weeks to do the same thing again! Save me a corona!

Great experience at the store. We ordered a breakfast there thinking we would need two meals. The lady there who gave us a bunch of great advice said the pancakes are huge and suggested only one order was needed. Wow, the pancake was huge and along with a bunch of bacon as a side the two of us had enough food for two meals with one order. In addition, the area there is wonderful! She mentioned a waterfall on the other side of a pond near the store. We saw a small waterfall near a bridge but the spotted a much larger one about 100 yards to the right. It was spectacular particularly for the time of year (September) when we visited.

The Portal Store is more than just a shop, it's an experience. We rushed in from Death Valley and made it with just 3 minutes to spare to get in on their epic pancake breakfasts. The lady up front was a bit grouchy about this, but we got our orders in quickly and she apologized for the grumpiness, because the cooks won't crack an egg after 10am. Fair enough. The food is mostly standard stuff, but the portion sizes are fit for a black bear. We ate outside, surrounded by the best mountain and forest views you'll ever see while eating pancakes. The store also carries a variety of apparel and trinkets to commemorate your accomplishments on this mountain.

The food at Whitney Portal Store is always fantastic! We stopped here after finishing the High Sierra Trail recently, and had the burger and fries. It was one of the best burger/fries I've ever had, and not just because I only had freeze dried food for the past 7 days. It was a perfect burger, with lots of bacon, and the fries were cooked just right. I've eaten here several times, and always looks forward to coming back. They also have excellent service, and you can eat in a nice outdoor setting among the trees. By the way, the store has a nice assortment of souvenirs too!

We ordered burgers and fries after hiking Whitney and man they hit the spot!!! We also came back the next day to try the big pancakes they had. The portions here are generous but perfect for before or after hiking Whitney!

Excellent pitstop before and after summiting Mt Whitney. Make sure to rent your bear canister(s) and purchase a trophy apparel for conquering the tallest mountain in contiguous US. Prices are as expected as the only store in Whitney region.

Whitney portals is a fantastic place to go and spend the day with your family. The Whitney portals café has delicious food. We had their cheeseburger meal and it was delicious. The people at the portal are always so kind and courteous. It’s fun to watch the hikers come in from the trails and those who are just starting out. My mom and dad used to take us there. My wife and I took our kids there and now they take their kids there. It’s just a great place to go and spend the day.

No matter how hungry you are, even if you are a group of 10 just get one pancake. It is huge, the three of us, very hungry hippos could not even finish the 10% of it.

The store staff were very friendly very knowledgeable. The 1st time I was here was in 2002. The second time was 9/5/22. I wish I could come more often. My dog and I hiked to Lone Pine Lake. Highly recommend. I camped at Lone Pine Campground.

After hiking Mount Whitney, nothing beats a big burger, fries, cold drink, and ice cream from the portal store. I’m so glad they were open when I finished the hike. It was great just relaxing on the patio in the evening, talking to other hikers and enjoying the mountain view. They have a nice selection of souvenirs and last-minute hiking essentials, too. Just be sure to get there before 6:30 pm, when they stop taking food orders!

This place is iconic. It needs no review. The owners have catered to Mount Whitney, Muir Trail and PCT hikers for nearly 35 years. Lots of miscellaneous hiking gear and snacks as well as burgers.

If you’re finishing the John Muir Trail here, you’re gonna want to stop and inhale some food. Good thing the kitchen is open! Grab yourself a burger and/or huge plate of fries with a cold drink (and ice cream, if they haven’t run out by the time you descend). Great set of Whitney/HST/PCT/JMT merch, too. Great service. Shout out to Tammy, hero of the Portal. Thanks for all you do.

Very clean shop with outdoor seating for anyone to enjoy. Well stocked with camping and hiking items as well as touristy tchotkes. Food there is supposedly perfectly tasty after a long hike albeit pricey. Live it up!

Grabbed burgers, fries, beer and soda here after completing the Crescent Meadow to Whitney Portal trek. The food is a little pricey, but it is freshly made and cooked - and tastes great. Can't beat the location, either. In short - worth it. The store has a great selection of pins, patches, stickers, and other swag to commemorate various hikes and outs through Whitney.

Honestly, any food tastes good after finishing a Mt. Whitney hike! I was super happy with food selection and my group feasted after we all made it down. I got the patty melt and it was pretty good, but the fries were delicious! Great selection of gifts and items to buy as souvenirs, but would love to see some more healthy drink options in the fridge.
