Hana Kitchen Isla Vista Reviews
Their bowls are super good for their prices! Tacos are also great on Taco Tuesdays.
The food is tasty, filling, fairly priced, and generally healthier than many other options in Isla Vista.
The food is good and the customer service is not bad at all. The wait time can be a while but it's worth it.
Cheap place to get meat-rice dishes (and some others more) in the IV. That's really all there's to it - accessibility, rice dishes, and being somewhat cheap.
First time when I went there, I doubt that the food would be good, but this not only changed my view, but also I go there everyday!! :)
We just arrived to Melbourne after 14 days cruise around New Zealand very friendly and professional service the food is spicy but yet very tasty and enjoyable for people who like little kick. The venue is clean very personable and pleasent the service is very friendly and professional
I don't generally like chicken, however the chicken is amazing!!! Rice and veggies are great as well! A real value as you get a lot of food for your money. Highly recommend!
The food is pretty good and rather affordable. Felt pretty healthy too. The guy that helped out my group named Juan was super cool and very nice. No complaints
I love this small place in IV! Used to go there all the time when I studied at UCSB. Especially love their teriyaki chicken box and boba tea. They have a TV and they always play Mean Girls haha.
Soooo good! My first bite into the vegan tacos and I thought it was grilled chicken! My meat eating friends told me it was seitan and showed me the texture difference. I've been vegetarian for 11 years and these tacos were on the top 10 list of best vegan tacos.
Most amount of food in IV for $8.50. I'm 5'11 225 lbs and I lift a lot and I barely finish the medium chicken order. Really fast on non peak hours. However be warned that they take like 20 min on the weekends at night
Gone here countless times since my freshman year. Portion size is well priced (mini bowls especially) and is often times more preferable than an $8-10 meal elsewhere. Can get crowded at times and boba is alright, but overall definitely a good place to make yourself a regular.
Great chicken bowls, and there Tacos are delicious!!! They are busy but the line moves fast and they get your order out quickly. Cashier's are always friendly
Hana is an Isla Vista staple! Their chicken and beef bowls are a go-to of mine. They make eating healthy convenient for the entire day if you opt for the regular or super sized bowls. Their selection of sides is awesome too, I always get green onions and sometimes the creamy orange sauce. Hana has a peaceful outside dining area where you can enjoy your meal with friends, although I normally take it home just because my friends dislike dining in public. The service is in my opinion impeccable, always polite and respectful, and the waiting time is only as long as it is busy. If you’re looking for nutrition, look no further and visit Hana Kitchen!
Chicken Bowl with Green Onion + Guava Slush with Boba = Great Choice
This is probably my favorite place to eat at in Santa Barbara/Goleta. I always go here because I’m in love with their beef bowls! It’s soooo good! It’s even healthy because it comes with a bunch of vegetables! My favorite part is their boba. I always get the mango slush with boba pearls, and I get them to make my slush without any tea, just water. The last time I went here, the guy seemed like he didn’t care about his job at all. He was in a bad mood lol. Anyways, the inside is sorta dirty. The wait is long if you don’t place an order online beforehand. Sometimes its really busy. I definitely recommend it cuz I love their beef bowls and boba! I will keep coming back!
Had fun with granny and my aunt the food was good and the service was good too
I just ate here again in 2020 and wanted to update my review. As a vegetarian I love this place; I cannot make this "fake chicken" at home although I wish I could. The mixture of the "chicken", rice, cabbage, and spicy cucumbers is just perfection. The black milk tea is also amazing! The older lady who was working the register was not very nice or helpful but that didn't take away from the food. My review from 2 years ago: Vegetarians favorite place! This is literally my favorite eatery ever. Wish I could eat here every day!
Well priced juicy chicken. Not seasoned much so make sure to put lots of spicy mayo on the bowl you get then it’ll be really really good. As of February 2023 this place is hands down the best place in Isla Vista in terms of bang for buck.
I came into Hana’s and I just loved the environment. The cashier that took me was incredibly kind and just made my day, I believe his name was Salvador. I was a new customer and I was very nervous about trying the new food but he immediately made me feel happy to be there. I will definitely come back after this experience. On top of that the food was absolutely delicious, can’t wait to come back!
Super fresh, great quality food for cheap. Service is generally quick, but lines can get pretty long at night because it’s super popular. I love their drinks and I can’t get enough of their spicy mayo! Definitely my go-to in Isla Vista. :-) Tip: try coming during the day or placing an order through the app for pick-up to beat the wait times!
Relaxing atmosphere and cute furnishing. The food was delicious, healthy, affordable, and served quick. A nice place for a college student to get something to eat late after the dinning halls have closed.
Lovely Place. I love the food over there. You get everything in your chicken box. Was there nearly everyday. You‘re able to go for more teriyaki, soya and siracha sauce if you want to. Free water and drinks. Miss this place in my hometown!
Great food at a good price!! Walked in and placed orders for the Vegan Beef/chicken bowls. Love that they have vegan options. Loved that they tasted good. Definitely will be back when I'm in the area.
Love it! Great tasting food and great price. Easy and fast. The vegan "meat" is pretty good. I always take the mini size bowl, which is a plenty of food.
Highly recommended for chicken or beef boxes (bowls). I go here nearly every time I'm in Goleta. Their "sauce sides" are a must, so try the spicy mayo and teriyaki sauce. It's outside seating on concrete tables and benches, but there's usually some shade to be found. And be sure to try their boba tea!
The tariyaki chicken is insanely delicious. You can tell the special tariyaki sauce is home made is amazing! Tastes completely different from bottled ones. The slightly charred bits on the chicken also adds another interesting flavor profile to the dish. The black milk tea also tastes very authentic. I can’t recommend this place enough. Everyone should try!
I want to buy this place many times and did not know that they had cuisine for vegans I have come here twice already getting the vegan chicken rice bowl which is pretty spectacular thinking that they have vegan food on the state walk out here this is amazing paired up with teriyaki sauce green onions cucumbers and also the lychee boba tea with the bull with pearls if you can find them on a night with the boba pearls

Good portion for the meat. The flavor is good.
Great quality food, great service, javier was very helpful and accommodating definitely one of the reasons im coming back.
great service. Love the food. Cashiers are very respectful and welcoming. Love coming here. Favorite spot in IV.
The food was very healthy, flavor filled, and the condiments gave a great accent to the chicken and beef! I would love to come back soon! Aiesha
I graduated 2014 and I still come back to this place any chance I get. The people serving are super friendly and the service is fast. Food is delicious as usual 🤤
Great quality and quantity. Quick and nice service. Multitude of toppings to choose from. I come here often and it’s always tasty.
Teriyaki Flare in a Taco I tried the chicken teriyaki mango taco, and it was an impressive combination of flavors. The chicken was perfectly cooked, with just the right balance of teriyaki without being overwhelming. The mango was incredibly fresh, ripe, and had a perfect firmness, offering a sweet and decadent contrast to the savory elements of the taco. Weston and his team provide exceptional service, going above and beyond to ensure a great dining experience. Their welcoming atmosphere makes enjoying a meal in their outdoor seating area even more enjoyable. Thank you, Hana’s Kitchen, for your outstanding service.

Cooking behind the wall makes me very but I enjoy their bowls alot. The tacos are good too.
Got mini chicken bowl because they were out of beef :( but it was nice. The portion was more than enough.
Awesome Asian fusion food for a good price and cool setting. Sometimes the wait for food can be a bit long.
Good food, decently priced. Chicken is a lot better than beef.
Great food but a long wait without a lot of people in line.
Don't come here if you're in a hurry. Super sizing your bowl is hit or miss in terms of quantity. Food is what makes it worth it. I really like the vegan chicken.
Hana Kitchen is a more hip and slightly healthier version of yoshinoya. The beef bowl is pretty good, and the mini size is plenty. 1 star off because the food was meh, and the inside of the building was sort of unkempt.
Really good food for not bad prices. There is pretty much always a wait and some of the staff don't really seem to care that customers are waiting. Overall a good place to get food though.
The food is alright. Sometimes i get paranoid that the chicken doesn't have a fully cooked texture but I haven't gotten sick lol good boba too.
Nothing fancy but their rice bowls are satisfying and you get a lot of food for your money. Nice sauce bar. Good boba tea too.
The meal was dank. It smacked and hit the the spot. Dude at the register however was not welcoming. Gave me an attitude w everything and seemed like he hated his job. All in all, i would recommend.
The vegan chicken at this place is so amazing, you'll think they made a mistake and gave you the real thing. I'd elevate this place 5 stars if they'd add an option for brown rice.
Ordered dinner online for my family for the 1st time (IV location). Arrived home missing an entire dish. No apology when I returned to get my missing meal. That's the reason for my service rating.
Their vegan chicken is amazing. Generally they have a tendency to burn the meat, and sometimes the chicken is not cut well and there are gross pieces - this is why I go with the vegan option now. A good standby, fresh veggies, delicious sauces. Their boba is pretty good.
The food is always delicious, but some of the staff seem easily overwhelmed. Also, they seem to be plagued with constant Internet issues, forcing them to only take cash sometimes. However, don't let this stop you, Hana serves excellent food.
Take out counter with mostly outdoor seating. The Hana Kitchen can be a great place to grab a quick asian style 'bowl' over chow mein and rice Depending on the crowd situation (wait can be really long for a take out place when it is busy, which is often the case at lunch or dinner time). Protein options are beef, chicken or Vegan (grilled Tofu) and you can get Mini, Regular or Super sized. The Regular is a pretty hefty meal while the Mini is a good more moderately sized value price option. Don't forget to finish off your bowl with extra sauces or spices at the condiment bar before you go. Never tried one but the Super is probably suitable for two adults. The wide variety of Bobo drinks are super popular for a treat as well.
The beef bowl is good, but it sucks to have gotten food that was obviously made for somebody that ordered it before me two times in a row. Sure, it’s a waste of food to not serve it to the next person that ordered the same thing, but it sucks to get get cold food that has been sitting there that was made for someone else. I’m in the area quite often, and was hoping that this place could be my go to spot to refuel
The food is good. If you get the vegan option, it's pricey, and in my opinion, only worth going to once a month maybe, solely from a price standpoint. It takes a while for your food to come out--which isn't a bad thing, it just means your food is prepared when you actually order it. I really like the ginger, spicy mayo, and teriyaki sauce they have available. I've gone before, right when they opened, and they didn't have, I believe any beef available yet, which is weird, because if it's an option on the menu, it should be ready to be ordered when the restaurant opens. Other than that, I've never had any issues here. It can get a bit crowded, because it's really close to UCSB, and if you're eating the non-vegan options, it's reasonably priced. But, that's not an issue, because there's plenty of places to sit and eat in IV.
Was craving a chicken teriyaki bowl and this place hit the spot! This location is near UCSB campus, in trendy Isla Vista. This is a no frills establishment…self serve ordering system, quick service, outside dining, but delicious food. Great stop if you’re in the area!
The vibe is neat and is in the UC-Santa Barbara area. It was busy with many college kids. The food was bland but the portions were large. I suggest the spicy Mayo and the teriyaki sauce to being in some flavor. It's honestly no frills but was decent. I ordered the super size online and my box was labeled regular size so I'm fairly certain I got took. I won't make a special trip to come back.

Should you go get food here? Are you drunk? Eat here ✅ Are you sober? Don't eat here 🚫 Are you something in between? Flip a coin 🪙
if this is 3 month ago I will give 4 star. but hana just keeps increasing their price with less meat in meal. but still a place if you dont have time and just want to have asian food (though I wont call it asian food)
Its alright, the food is a little too greasy and definitely a little whitewashed (I mean it is near ucsb) but it still tastes alright. I don't think it was worth that long wait though.
It was alright. Food was good, but it's the type of stuff you can make at home too. Ran out of several proteins pretty early in the night.
Most of the time the food is amazing. Three stars because their online ordering is terrible and I've never had them answer a single phone call. Ever. Food is absolutely delicious though.
How to imrove: - make chicken less dry (Adding sauce helps) - I want cut vegetable medley, not thinly cut lettuce - Switch to thicker sauce (current teriyaki sauce runs too easily and pools at bottom of bowl) - make the rice stickier Price is a 5/5 for the local area :)
Just had a pretty disappointing order. I got the super chicken with more veggie/less rice and there was easily 5x more rice than veggie. After a 40 minute wait, I would hope the order is correct. If I wanted a half pound of cooked rice I would have stayed home. Since I order from here semi-regularly, I was hoping I could get one of the coupons they send out to repeat customers. I tried to call but the phone line doesn't work. Hoping this place adjusts to the school year starting and is back on their game soon... It'll be a few months before I order here again. Previous review: Quality food at a good price. Taco Tuesday is a slam dunk.
One of the best boba places in a 3 mile radius of IV, *for the price*. Their variety of drinks is lacking but what they offer is quantity and budget. The prices of the drinks are lower than the average Los Angeles area cost for the same size :) They have served me spoiled milk in my milk tea before, it was not fun v_v They have nice semi-enclosed outdoor seating :) Their beef bowls are quite tasty.
It always out of stock. ( no caps or lids) they should let customer know that they are out of those items a front. Other then that great food
Honestly, would be a great place if they didn't run out of everything 3 hours before closing.
Very limited selection of food and not worth it if youre vegetarian. Better off spending the money somewhere else.
I really like the food but they get my order wrong everytime. They have huge signs that read " masks required " yet the workers dont wear them or they wear them under their chins.
NEVER ORDER DELIVERY FROM HERE. Unless you want cold food two hours after ordering, that is. After several attempts, I’ve given up on this place entirely.
Some of the food was badly burnt. The parts that weren't burnt were okay. We also asked for less rice, but it seems our request went largely ignored. The chicken was pretty good, though.
Food is decent, staff wasn’t too friendly though. They also don’t accept cash which is quite annoying and overall just a stupid business decision. Really hope more places don’t start doing this.
Called to see if they do phone orders. They respond with hello. That's not the proper way of customer service you should answer with "Hi thank you for calling Hana's kitchen how may I help you" I even thought I called the wrong number. I showed up and the same lady who answered made the same mistake when someone ese called. I orderd my food, but I realized I didn't have enough money on my card. Fortunately I had a couple dollars on me which would complete the amount. I asked the cashier if I could pay with card and the other half with cash. She refused saying she "doesn't know how to do that". She didn't even bother asking a staff member if they could help her. Please make sure you train your employees correctly because I wouldn't want another customer to have to go through the same. All restaurants wether fast food or not will take half card and half cash. Unnceptabble!! Bad customer service.
You’re paying $18 for some spicy mayo and rice, Just grab a bottle for yourself at a grocery store for like $5 instead
I only like their beef bowl and they're out of it half the time. I usually get an iced passion fruit green tea, no boba with it. The food is great. The bad rating is for the bad customer service I have received on separate occasions. The cashiers aren't on top of things. I ask for to go and the they don't give me a bag, napkin, anything. I have to request it again when I actually pick up the order and get this look from her unapologetic she hands me a bag, etc. They also refuse to pick up their phone. I was calling to place a pick up order and to check if they had beef since they run out but they let the phone ring forever. I call back and they immediately hang up on me. Then when I arrive, surprise! They ran out of beef. A waste of my time.
Visited this evening at 8 pm. The hours say that the location is open until 12 am. I ordered a regular beef bowl/plate to go. The cashier served my food with the container opened. No bag. No napkins or fork. No sauce. I couldn’t order a drink because they had all the machines turned off. The guy at the counter was being short and huffed and puffed when I asked for a bag and some sauce. He never asked me if I was eating there so not sure why he just assumed. I was there with another person who didn’t get food so not sure how he assumed that we were there to dine-in. The entire experience was weird. The food was cold. Just weird. Weird weird weird. I actually like Hana Kitchen so this experience just didn’t do it for me.
My experience was the opposite of some other reviewers. The young woman serving was pleasant and helpful. But the food was not to my liking. I asked if there were any choices that would avoid a lot of fat. She said that the beef is boiled so that would be a bad choice. And the chicken meat is from a fatty part of the chicken. So, I opted for the vegan version. The vegan "chicken" managed to have the flavor and consistency of chicken fat! The only way I could eat it was to remind myself that it is really just tofu with that horrid texture. The vegetables were mostly just overcooked cabbage. No broccoli or any other tasty vegetables. Under that was white rice. If you are desperate for food in Isla Vista you might be OK eating here. Right now many of the restaurants are closed so I was desperate for something new. I will add that as I was leaving a young man sat with his butt on the table where I had just been eating. I seriously doubt that there was anyone to wipe the table down after he left. I did not count that in my rating, but it was a bit unsettling.
The vegan chicken was the worst vegan chicken I've ever tried. The super chicken was also not great. The chicken burrito was really nice with an interesting flavor.
The food is okay, but with each progressive visit the staff competence just seems to get lower and lower. 3 out of 5 time I went there the card reader was broken and one could only pay with cash. Today I ordered a box to go, which I have to bike home. I got a ripped bowl, which made the box impossible to close. When I told the clerk, she smirked and did nothing. Good food but repeated disheartening experience makes me hesitant to go there again. Would rather get Wendy's or something.
Gave me the wrong order. I ordered a beef bowl and got a chicken bowl. Also didn’t include the sauces. Disappointed

Food sucked. I feel sorry for those college students having to eat mediocre food. The so call topping bar is a disgrace, no selection. Props to the staff that have to make face for the low quality food.
This place is seriously the worst! I have ordered 3 times from there and every time they forgot an item. I call the number and they never answer! I have ordered through 2 delivery apps and same issue every time. I don’t think I will ever order from here again!
The super box is over priced for the amount of beef you get. The beef is very fatty and looks similar to thin strips of bacon.
very dirty place. I saw a mouse coming out from the kitchen. Bad service. long waiting time. I give up my order and get my refund after seeing a mouse. Never come to this place!!!
I never thought to write something bad about this place but today I went to this location to buy Chicken bowls, I was eating and I found 2 hairs on my bowl and the chicken was burnt.
Incredibly low food quality and taste. They just dump the ingredients in a bowl and hand it to you. Staff were 100% stoned. Unsanitary kitchen.
This place always runs out of beef, chicken or boba. Honestly it's really frustrating because I've had my orders cancelled 4 times in the past 3 weeks.
Their chicken was never cooked all the way when I went there. I waited an average of 30 minutes every time and it's not worth the wait, especially if your foods going to be undercooked.
I AM BEYOND DISGUSTED AND DISAPPOINTED !!!!More than halfway done with my boba (slushed strawberry) I find this pincher bug inside my drink, I nearly swallowed it since I was drinking from their straw. WHICH MADE ME SICK TO MY STOMACH AND PUKE. This place was always a go to restaurant/fast food for my friends and I, sometimes even family! But I don't think I can ever go back to this place ever again! The manager took hours to give me a call regarding this problem. Never again!
Hana Kitchen used to be good and always full of people. Now the food is bland and it’s a shame. Also the restaurant lacks customer service.
Absolutely BURNT chicken and always missing items when placing an order online. Thought I'd give them one last chance but the food was horrendous. Save yourself the trouble and go elsewhere
Got the spicy chicken bowl since it's supposed to be chicken breast, at least that's how the Downtown SB location serves it. It was chicken leg meat like the regular chicken bowl, and it was cold. It's just upsetting to pay more for something and not get it
Had their beef bowl last night and it was flat out awful. The beef was a very cheap cut (like pot roast) and the veggies were 90% lettuce with 2 florets of broccoli thrown in. Reminded me of this place down in Long beach called yakisoba which churned out greasy Asian fare. Apparently other dishes from hana kitchen are much better (judging from all the praise) but that beef dish was so revolting that I wont be going back for seconds
They are notorious for getting orders wrong & I have tried to give them second chances but they always mess up my order. The last time I ordered with them i asked for a vegan beef, but they gave me opaque looking intenstines instead. DO NOT GO HERE!
DESERVES ZERO STARS. Probably one of the worst spots in IV Everytime I go there's a problem and then the 'boss' is there tonight when I go to pickup food and after waiting 25 minutes for a mini chicken bowl that was UnderCooked and Raw, I get a "I'm sorry, have a free drink" from the person in charge who went outside to smoke a cigarette while people waited extra long for their food. This shows how much the owner cares about the customers. This place has no vibe and has gone to trash unfortunately. Hopefully the leadership can learn to do better
Will never order online for delivery again. Placed order through Hana app from IV location and they wait until 10 minutes after the expected delivery time to call to tell me they have cancelled my order and they don’t deliver to my area. Blamed it on some update to their order program. Why wait 30 minutes before telling me you weren’t going to fulfill my order?! They said the food was prepared so now being pregnant, hungry, and irritated my husband offers to drive there to pick up the food. When I went in I was told I had to pay again because they refunded when the cancelled the order. Ok fine whatever. But then to top it all off the food was already cold by the time I got in the car to start eating. Wasted my time and my money for food that has to go in the microwave unless I want to eat room temp chicken. Don’t order from here unless you like eating cold rice. Horrible customer service, will not ever be retuning.
Mess up order never answer the phone and the girl is rude!! where is the customer service and why don’t you ever answer your phone! I ordered a super beef and chicken bowl you forgot the chicken!!!’ On top of that I got a metal piece in my bowl that was from some object in the back the use and almost choked!! I have the piece and will be contacting the health department! Here is the pic of the metal piece in my bowl that I almost ate. It was covered in grease an I’m freaking out and disgusted because I don’t know what it’s from or what it came off of!
The foods good but I put no rice, or vegetables in this beef bowl and everytime they keep adding an insane amount of onions and still charge $14

It’s dirty inside—lots of flies will welcome you. The cashier, a young Hispanic guy, was rude. He noticed it was my first time ordering. I had four items: three medium boxes of the veggie chicken bowl and two mango tacos. He just handed me all four boxes. I asked, “No bags? Am I supposed to carry all of this with me?” He just smiled. Then I asked if there was any sauce I could mix with it. He said, “No, we only give sauce for online orders.” Is that even true? He wasn’t very approachable at all. I even asked if I could buy the sauce, and he still said no. The food wasn’t good. Don’t be fooled—it may seem like a good dinner spot, but it’s not.
