SOL DE ORO Lake Placid Reviews
Great food, great host, we ve got the peruvian first one recommended and was excellent! With kids or without, this place was a perfect choice! Host offered for our group with kids, games and house sauces. Also, place is clean and welcoming. I highly recommend it!
I sat at the bar. Had an excellent Peruvian beer, the empanadas, the ceviche, and the lomo Saltado. Everything was amazing. The food was hot, well prepared, and delicious. Chris, the server, entertained me with stories of Lake Placid while I ate. Highly recommend.
What an incredible meal after a long day of skiing. First of the fresita margarita is perfection — the little bits of strawberry were what I needed. We ordered the Lomo Saltado and Chaufa and left feeling STUFFED because we couldn’t stop eating. Great vibes all around
This is the only Peruvian place in Lake Placid and the food was soooo delicious. Everything was cooked fresh and looked and tasted amazing. Would recommend the Roast Caufa and the Beef Lomo Saltado (I’m obsessed with french fries). I got the drink the Pisco Sour and wow it was the perfect combination of sweet citrus and spices. Will definitely be going back.
This is a family run restaurant with a nice atmosphere. The menu is pretty diverse with everything from Mexican fare to Italian dishes -however what you should order is the Peruvian food. Its authentic and literally tastes homemade. It was delicious. Service was friendly and fast.
It's a family-run business with a good mix of food! Great for people who want to try something new and for people who are less adventurous. The mother cooked an amazing Peruvian dish called lomo saltado. I ate every bite! We also got a great chicken panini there. Very friendly service there. Highly recommend!
As a fellow Peruvian, I found the food to be authentic and as delicious as my late mother's home cooked Peruvian dishes she made as I was growing up. The service staff was friendly and attentive. Our food came out quickly and was well presented. The portions are large and you may have to take some home which only extends the culinary experience even longer. I especially enjoyed the Lomo Saltado and Ceviche. We all ordered a bottle of the Chicha Morada and even ordered 4 more to take to our hotel. I would highly recommend Sol de Oro to anyone looking for a delicious meal in the Lake Placid area.
My family and I have been coming to Lake Placid for nearly 30 years. We’ve seen dozens of restaurants open and close throughout our years here. There is definitely a lack of diversity when it comes to food in this town, so we decided to try Sol de Oro as we get a bit tired of American and Italian food. We were surprised at how empty the restaurant was on a Friday night, considering the restaurants on the busy part of Main Street have 45-60 minute waits MINIMUM on weekends. There was only one other group in the restaurant which isn’t always a great sign. Our waiter (cannot recall his name unfortunately) and his family are working tirelessly to provide a great experience for their customers. He took the time to educate us on the variety of Peruvian dishes they have to offer and even was very knowledgeable about gluten free dishes as a few of us are celiac. He explained his mom is the chef and puts a lot of love into the dishes, which we learned was absolutely true. Everyone in our group that ordered authentic Peruvian dishes absolutely loved it. Two people in the group ordered American dishes which they weren’t THRILLED with, but we told them it’s because they ordered wrong at a Peruvian restaurant! It’s easily become one of my new favorite meals in the town, and I wish I could bring in more clientele for them, as they absolutely deserve the attention/business. I look forward to our next visit there, and will encourage anyone I can to give it a try! I ordered the Bistek a lo pobre and two people ordered the arroz chaufa and both dishes were 10/0!!!
Came here with my husband for dinner and it definitely met expectations! We didn’t experience any issues during our visit and were greeted upon entering. Our server was friendly. The atmosphere was unique in that it was a sports bar vibe mixed with a Peruvian restaurant. We shared the Bistek A lo Pobre and enjoyed every last bite. The food was what we expected for a sports bar and overall hit the spot!
We came across this restaurant while looking for places to eat in Lake Placid, and we were very pleasantly surprised with the quality of the food and the friendliness of the family that own the place. Their menu offers a variety of American and Peruvian dishes. We have only had the Peruvian dishes and they are hands down amazing. From the Pisco Sour, to the Ceviche, to the entrées of Tallarin Verde and Ribeye steak with rice and beans- everything was top notch. Service was impeccable as well. Every time we come to Lake Placid, we make sure to eat at Sol de Oro. Would definitely recommend for quality food and good vibes. Edit: We came back the next day to watch the Bills game because we just loved the atmosphere and the welcoming, friendly vibe, and we ordered more Ceviche, beef empanada, and wings. For drinks we ordered The Amazon and The Loon and they were both exceptional. We're so glad we found a place that offers not only good food, but also good drinks. On top of that, amazing hospitality. We'll definitely be back the next time we're in Lake Placid!
I'm very confused about the reviews on the restaurant. It should not have this many stars. My husband ordered a steak that came out gray, like it was microwaved. He ordered medium rare, but there was no pink at all. I ordered a fried rice dish that was dry and overcooked. Like it was all cooked up already and microwaved and given to me. Really horrendous food. The server was apathetic. He thanked us for choosing the restaurant but acted like this was also the last place he wanted to be. Don't waste your money and a vacation meal here
I have no clue why people gave such good reviews. Maybe I came on a bad day. I had a burrito with chicken. The chicken was rough as if it was old and the whole burrito didn’t taste well. So half way I opened it to see what I was actually eating. Decide for yourself. The answer from the manager that we said that everything was excellent when asked, is total nonsense. Nothing was asked. And if asked I would definitely tell it. But the big leftover portion gave enough away (I thought).
