Top Sushi Leticia Reviews
An extraordinary experience from the time we walked in until the time we walked out. More people need to experience this. Absolutely top quality fish and top quality service. Not only our waiter, but it seemed every employee was extremely educated on the menu.
The restaurant looks very nice and has an excellent view. We got the 9 course tasting menu, which while expensive I think for the quality was priced appropriately. The service was quite good and the waitress was fairly knowledgeable, not quite Michelin star level, but at the price point I think it would be hard not to be very satisfied. The per glass sake selection was somewhat limited which was a little disappointed. If we wanted to get a bottle there were a lot more options. Specifically it would have been nice to have had any nigori by the glass. The mixed drinks we got instead were good. The bathrooms are two floors up and that floor isn't air conditioned as well, which while not a huge deal wasn't ideal. I don't think there was valet parking available and on street parking is very limited although there was a parking lot not too far from the location. Overall a great restaurant, particularly at that price point, but with a few fixes they could hit an even better tier of dining, although I'm not sure if there is a market at that price point that might require. We really liked it and are likely to return.
My husband and I celebrated our anniversary here last night and it was quite the experience. First impression of the outside was beautiful. The gold letters of OTARU against that deep blue siding was really captivating. Their doors operate on a button system instead of pulling or pushing. I've never seen this in a restaurant before. Pretty cool. When you enter the restaurant the host offers to take your coat. We respectfully declined, but really appreciated the gesture. That set the tone for me. I knew I was in good hands here. We immediately were taken to our table next to a breathtakingly beautiful panoramic view of Pittsburgh. It was quite the scene, especially with the rivers being frozen over. We were served with waters and edamame upon being seated. Our waitress, Angela was really spectacular. She went above and beyond to make us feel comfortable and informed with everything on the menu. She even gave us a tour of the menu and explained everything in detail. She shared what her favorites were on the menu as well. Because of that, we were confident in what we wanted to order. Our food came out in such a nice, timely manner, we didn't have to wait long for the next course. Angela also explained everything that was brought out and later asked us what was our favorite out of the sushi we tried. She was very attentive, knowledgeable, warm, inviting, and respectful. The food was so uniquely delicious, incredibly fresh, and authentic (I assume as I've never been to Japan). Angela informed us that the fish is shipped from Japan on a bed of ice almost daily. You can't beat that quality! For our anniversary we went all out on the menu so we paid a pretty penny, but you can comfortably just meet a friend here for some orders of sushi and not burn a hole in your wallet. It's a great place for any and all occasions. We highly recommend Otaru. :)
The best Japanese restaurant in Pittsburgh if not the best restaurant in Pittsburgh. We went for a special occasion. The food is fresh and well-prepared. All of the courses are perfectly balanced. The table selected a series of appetizers and the Otaru course plus a few hand rolls and drinks. There was not a single bite or sip the table did not enjoy. The staff was all very courteous and go out of their way to make sure you have a great experience. Penny, helped us lock in a reservation at the perfect table for us -- a nice treat for an occasion or celebration. The waitress (name evading me) was incredibly attentive and did a great job walking us through the menu and explaining some of the taste/textures of different fish. Most importantly, if you love good Japanese food you will notice this too: The rice is perfectly seasoned. All-in-all, this is truly a five star experience for a fair price. I would recommend Otaru to anyone. It may be the best restaurant in PGH at the moment.
I reserved for my daughter’s birthday and while we didn’t get a window seat as requested, you still have a really unfettered view of the city from the first floor. It’s worth going anytime, but had an especially nice ambiance at night with the city all aglow for the holidays. Angela was our server and endeavored to not only answer any questions, but to make the dinner an experience. She is a consummate professional, giving just enough attention to your needs/questions without being intrusive on your meal. I also appreciated that she asked about any food allergies and tailored her presentation for both of us, based on our preferences. She helped guide instead of pushing, so we were getting what we wanted/liked. I’ve never been terribly fond of raw fish and now understand that what I’m really not a fan of is mid or bad sushi/nigiri. I opted for the Black Miso Cod with that distaste in mind, and while it was incredibly delicious, after trying two pieces, I really think I could have eaten nigiri all night. To say the fish is “fresh” is an incredible understatement. This is how fish should actually taste - not the frozen/thawed, refrozen fish typically being served in landlocked areas. You can tell the care, attention to detail, and quality that you are receiving. Everything is delicately balanced and layered with often delicate flavors. I wish I had taken more pics to share here but we were having such a good time and enjoying the dishes so much that I only took a few. The presentation is as tasteful as the dishes themselves. Highly recommend the Sakura Samurai and lychee martini, although the sake paired with the experience was carefully curated and absolutely some of the best sake I’ve ever had. The “experience” is course after course of really lovely and unique sashimi, nigiri, and other dishes that I’ve never seen or tasted before. My descriptions won’t really do it justice as I’m a novice to the cuisine. But as a consummate lover of exquisite flavor profiles, the “experience” delivers. The tiramisu and matcha ice cream were a pleasant surprise, as they were also excellent. Overall, if you like sushi, sashimi or nigiri, and even if you don’t, this is the freshest spot to have it in Pittsburgh. If you love and appreciate sushi etc, Otaru is unquestionably the best place to treat yourself. Thank you for making our celebration special. We’ll be back!
We had an amazing time at Otaru. Definitely the best sushi I’ve ever had! Our server, Angela, was very knowledgeable and super helpful when we had questions about the menu and couldn’t decide what to get. My favorite was the salmon and ikura hand roll, but everything we had was delicious. This place is a must try for anyone who likes sushi.
Perfect anniversary date. We reserved a table in advance and were met with a delicious meal and friendly staff. The favorites included the Sakura Samurai cocktail, the Tartar, the Godzilla Roll, and the Sashimi platter. Honestly this was the best sushi rice I’ve ever had, so we got two bowls of that as well. Cat was a lovely server, we were glad to hear her recommendations and bond over our love of quality food.
This is truly a high-end sushi destination and, with many other places closing recently, it may very well be the best sushi spot in Pittsburgh. The fish is exceptionally fresh, the presentation is refined, and the flavors are authentic. Combined with outstanding service, it’s absolutely worth a visit for any sushi lover.
OTARU is officially my new go-to spot for sashimi and nigiri. We started off with the shishito peppers, rice crackers with salmon, and the tuna and salmon tapas as appetizers, and everything was incredibly fresh and delicious. For the main event, I tried the spicy tuna, scallop, and shrimp tempura hand rolls—each one was fantastic. We also ordered the Godzilla Roll, which is their only more traditional multi-piece sushi roll (it comes with five pieces). It was nice to have that option, though it didn’t quite measure up to the standout single-piece selections. We also loved the unique sake serving device that kept everything perfectly chilled. To finish off, we had mochi for dessert. It comes as three pieces, and you can pick from a variety of flavors. We chose strawberry, mango, and matcha, and loved them all. Overall, an absolutely fantastic experience. I’ll definitely be coming back!
I visited OTARU on a Saturday with an advanced reservation for one. The service from start to finish was amazing with my server explaining the menu well. The food came out quickly and was all delicious. The hand rolls were delightful and the black miso cod was perfectly cooked. Overall, a wonderful experience and I would go back.
We had such an incredible experience - I truly couldn't wait to leave a review! From the moment we were seated, Garrett made us feel like family. He was warm, engaging, and full of great recommendations! The three of us ordered what feels like half the menu and shared it all - with every bite being better than the rest! The Yellow Tail Jalapeno and Salmon Takaki were truly stellar... The octopus balls and Chawanmushi added to the comfort of the night! Diving into the sashimi portion though, was exactly what I needed!!! It was the highest quality - and variety of fish that you don't come across often. Several pieces came "composed", with a hint of truffle pate or yuzu pate etc. and were designed to enhance the flavor of the fish instead of just covering it with a sauce. I ordered seconds of the Amberjack and Toro... And probably could have ordered thirds! My only regret is not getting dessert. Thank you for a fantastic night!
Been here twice now and had an incredible experience all around both times. Everything feels so well thought out and elevated - from the atmosphere, to the drinks, food of course, and even the dishware. I highly recommend getting the treasure box of sashimi if you are not doing one of the course meals. Also don’t skip out on the mochi for something sweet afterwards. It’s the best mochi I’ve ever had! Big thank you to our server Angela who is incredible at her job!!
Fabulous! We went for our first anniversary and the experience was flawless from start to finish. We got the full omakase experience with a bottle of sake for me and the premium whiskey flight for my husband. The sake was served in this incredible apparatus you can see in the video that kept it cold and attracted quite a bit of jealous glances! My husband was blown away by the whiskey flight - I wish we could remember what the lightest one was because we would love to buy a bottle. Every course was better than the last, the fish was all incredibly fresh and meticulously prepared, and they brought us a complimentary tiramisu to celebrate our anniversary which was so sweet! The entire experience was enhanced by our fantastic server, Angela. She was extremely knowledgeable, patient, and attentive, and made the evening perfectly special and memorable with her humor and excellent recommendations. The only notes I have are: there should be purse hooks under the counter and the tasting menu was a bit light, we would have like to have been a bit fuller. Overall fabulous and we can’t wait to return!
Absolutely amazing experience from start to finish! The food was incredible - every dish was flavorful, fresh, and beautifully presented. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, with incredible views that made the evening feel even more special. We celebrated my sister’s birthday here, and the staff made the evening memorable. The service was friendly and attentive. Highly recommend this spot for any occasion or just a great night out!
Angela was a fantastic server. We had called a table last minute on the phone for a party of 6 and they were able to accommodate us so well. The quality of the fish was phenomenal. So happy the Mount Washington has a sushi spot. The vibes and ambience were amazing. Def a great spot for a date.
Dinner at Otaru on Mt. Washington in Pittsburgh was an unforgettable experience! Tucked away behind the iconic black and gold doors, this “hidden in plain sight” gem features two beautifully decorated floors—an inviting sushi bar on the top and a cozy alcohol bar on the lower level. Each floor boasts a serene ambiance with only a handful of tables on each, offering a light, airy feel and stunning views of The Point and Acrisure Stadium (it will always be Heinz Field to me). A special shoutout to our fabulous waitress, Angela! Her extensive knowledge and friendly demeanor made our evening even more delightful. She was not only animated and personable but also a fantastic storyteller who kept our table tidy and plates cleared. Her vibe was on point and added to the calm yet celebratory ambiance of the evening. We’ll definitely be requesting her next time! And the food? Absolutely incredible! Fresh sushi shipped in daily from Japan provided a unique texture and flavor, unlike anything I’ve ever experienced—truly a culinary journey, not just a meal. If you’re able to take this magical tasting exploration, please get the edamame as an appetizer along with some pork bao buns and tempura bao buns, and as part of the main entree, a treasure box, where you’ll get to taste all the aforementioned “just flown in” seafood. The greens under the sushi (I posted a pic of our empty box) took me way back to my grandmothers garden.. it was SO fresh. Add some hand rolls to your main meal and… chefs kiss!! It was perfectly balanced, leaving us satisfied but not overly stuffed. While Otaru is on the pricier side, the quality is top-notch and absolutely worth it for a special occasion dinner. 🍣❤️ if you are looking for a dining experience, where with every bite, you close your eyes and are transported to some magical place, then definitely make your reservations at Otaru!
This place was straight up amazing!! The view over the city was incredible, and the food was outstanding. It was super clean and the whole atmosphere was incredible!! Amy our bar tender/server was awesome!! She was very informative and helpful. We went there for our anniversary dinner and she was sure to take care of us!! She was very knowledgeable and made awesome recommendations!! I highly recommend Otaru, this is probably the best restaurant we eaten at in Pittsburgh. Very unique!!
AMAZING food, view, and service! If you get Garrett as your server, you’re lucky. He was so kind and went over the menu with us in detail. I love sashimi and went with the Treasure Box, which was insane... so fresh and melt in your mouth soft. My husband loved the Beef Udon and his Wagyu Hand Roll was delish. We were celebrating our wedding anniversary and were given Mochi on the house! Everything was so good, highly recommend for any celebration. :-)
Without a doubt, this restaurant offers one of the best views of Pittsburgh. The cozy interior, designed in a traditional Japanese style, creates a comfortable and inviting atmosphere. As for the cuisine, it's hard to judge for now-perhaps my expectations were too high. It might be worth a second visit to form a final opinion on the food. On my return visit to this restaurant, I had the chance to explore more of the menu - and I was thoroughly impressed. The quality remains consistently high, with well-balanced flavors and thoughtful presentation.
What an incredible meal. The food was superb, the ambience was beautiful and the star of the show? Angela. She really made our valentines dinner special. I have never been so educated on what was being brought to the table. She told us how fish was flown in every day from Japan, and all the love that goes into the dishes before they come to your table. I know you go to a restaurant for food, but we would come back just to experience another part of the menu with her.
HIGHLY RECOMMEND!! Angela was our server, she was awesome. She knew the food and drink menu and made great recommendations which we ordered and were delicious. The fish was super fresh, the tuna toro was like butter! Amazing views of the city. Anyone heading there to dine will not be disappointed
We tried the tasting menu as it was our first experience. The sushi courses (only 3/9) were very good, although the tuna hand roll was bland. The appetizers and cooked dishes were bland or underwhelming. There was a shrimp dish that particularly fell flat with chewy small shrimp you could defrost yourself at home. There is a very difficult to eat intensely sweet tomato dish in the middle that you can’t cut with your spoon and is overly sweetened. Drinks have a long lag from the bar despite it not being too crowded. Views are of course gorgeous and it truly feels like that’s what you’re paying for. Service was excellent with a very knowledgeable and kind server who really knew the details of each dish. When most of the dishes fell flat (outside of the sushi really), it was sad because the server’s explanation each time got us so excited. It’s very pricey for the quality. The cooked salmon dish they brought was also particularly disappointing- with overcooked fish and a bland sauce. I sincerely recommend they take a look at their tasting menu. They should heavily favor sushi vibes as those were the highlights.
My first time at this restaurant was with my husband, and the experience was quite bad. The waiter's service was good, but the food wasn't great, and to top it off, we found a hair in the ice cream. Luckily, we only ordered one dish (OTARU experience) , because otherwise it would have been a terrible experience, especially considering the price; the overall experience was very disappointing.
