CoCo Ichibanya Los Angeles Reviews
Food is phenomenal. I will say, the last two times I got take out… I did notice there was significantly less curry than there used to be. Like, it used to be filled to the top of the container, & now.. It’s giving bag of chips type shrinkflation. Now with 20% more empty space 🥲💔
We ordered the chicken cutlet curry, pork cutlet curry, and triple seafood curry, along with the keema fries. Everything was delicious, and the portion sizes were very generous. I really liked that they offer a wide range of spice levels and let you choose the rice amount as well. We had a great time overall, and the service was excellent too.
Great food, big portions. If you need to find parking, I asked ichibanya staff; it's called city center on 6th and it also says crystal spa parking pointing at it. It's near 6th and Mariposa, on Mariposa Street. They have a QR code you can scan to validate the parking, no ticket needed all digital.
Curry House CoCo Ichibanya of Koreatown serves up authentic Japanese curry like the best of them. The ambience is hip with clean/new furniture, Japanese pop music playing in the background, and a range of menu options that you can tailor to your tastes. I recommend a smaller number of spiciness at first, and then increase on subsequent visits. You can always turn it up with the spices at your table. They’re very friendly, the bathrooms are clean, and it’s almost like stepping straight into Japan with each visit. Gotta check it out!
I LOVE CoCo's Curry House! I've eaten at Coco's in Japan and Hawaii and this one holds up just perfectly! Japanese curry holds a special place in my heart and Coco's is the foundation of that fondness. I always get the Chicken Katsu with cheese and it is such a comfort food for me and hits the spot. At this location, the food tasted consistently like all my memories and we had excellent service...twas a satisfying experience. Thanks for being everything I expect and love...see you soon.
Mmm… curry. This food hits the spot after a long day, where you’d like a nice, filling plate of great curry. Or maybe you’re feeling nostalgic and miss that trip you took to Japan, where you had curry there for the first time. There are many ways to customize your plate. Lots of appetizers to choose from, too. I’m getting really hungry now after writing this out. Take-out and delivery is my way to go! I usually go for the chicken cutlet curry. I like to add cheese, sometimes even with cream and mushrooms. For spice, level 8 feels like the right kick if you’ve got a good spice tolerance (then again, subjective). Rarely do I order any level higher than that. Level 20 ain’t that bad, although I do end up sweating bullets when finishing the plate. Portions are quite filling. If you’re eating with someone else I do recommend adding an appetizer to have some variety together. And on that note, I think I’m going to order again soon. Lol.
My friend brought me here and ordered for us. I didn’t know the name of the restaurant or the plate we shared. I just remember really enjoying the food, and taking a photo of it. I had forgotten about this place until I saw the photos. I asked my friend for the name of this restaurant so I could leave this review. Atmosphere was clean and quiet, kinda trendy. And service was excellent. I hope to go back. 5 stars.
A review for Cocos curry is LONG overdo. I've set back doing it for so long because there's no way I could justify putting just how good it is within a short review. I always go with the Chicken Cutlet with vegetables level 3 spice, and it's always perfection. Nailed every time. Their curry sauce is absolutely delicious but pair it with the ginger and you'll get perfection. Choose the spice level at your own risk. I think level 3 is just right but most people I know go level 2. The curry itself is very rich in flavor but the spice level makes the dish. The Katsu chicken is delicious as well but without the curry, its just chicken. I always get regular sized portion. Its enough to fill me up every time. Have some water around. If you want to give a drink a try, go the Thai Tea. Its a pretty standard Thai tea, so dont expect to be wowed there.
I love this curry house so much. I have been going since I lived in Seoul, and the LA K-town location tastes exactly the same as the curry I had nine years ago in Korea! They do pack some heat; I had a level 4 spice and it was kind of spicy, still delicious. Pretty much everything about the dish can be customized- rice, toppings, spice.. cheese is always a good addition. The radish pickle is so dang good as well. The salad was simple and yummy. I love their nutty salad dressing. Clean bathroom and nice staff. Love this franchise!
Came on a Saturday afternoon it wasn't super busy so we had great service and the food itself was very VERY flavorful and delicious. They do focus on both Japanese AND Indian spices. They have a spice rating so you can choose your level of heat. Prices are VERY reasonable considering the area (most shops close by want to charge $30 for an entree while it's half the price here)
Amazing curry! Came here around 7:30p and it was fairly quiet--we got seated immediately. Got the pork cutlet and chicken karaage omelette and they were both excellent. You get quite a lot of food for the price and they don't skimp out on the meat. Would also recommend the keema cheese french fries. It's a different type of curry and equally excellent.
First time! Went for dine in, the food was delicious and delightful. I had the pork cutlet and omelet. The pork was crispy and tender, and the omelet perfectly fluffy. I went with the regular spice level on my waitress’s recommendation, but if you enjoy even slightly spicy foods, I wouldn’t hesitate to get the first couple levels of spice. There is spicy seasoning on the table if you want to add your own too, along with some delicious pickled things. They were some sort of vegetable, just not sure what. I also had a Thai tea, and it was great. I think they offer a jumbo size of it in a big glass mug, which looked very tempting. All in all, great food. Minor complaint on cleanliness in the dining area. The table and chairs and anything you touch are all very clean, but you can see neglect in other areas, stained walls, dusty ledges, etc. Major complaint, the bathroom. I can only speak to the men’s room, but whoa it was BAD. Floor hadn’t seen a mop in a while, toilet seat broken, I could go on, but I’ll spare you. Overall I really enjoyed it, unique delicious food. Just needs more attention on some cleaning.
Ordered a Pork Cutlet Omelet Curry with regular rice and regular spice. This is a nice warm comfort meal. The regular amount of spice is good even for those with a sensitive spice palate. You can go for more spice if you’d like and if you think your order wasn’t spicy enough, there are little spice shakers to add some more spice though it may not be as great if you ordered the exact spice ahead of time. The pork cutlet was a nice size and cut into good portions; I would have preferred it to be more crispier on the outside fresh from frying but the outer fried part was still nice. The pork inside was firm but has a nice qq to bite into. The omelet was the right consistency between soft and firm, cut apart very nicely every time. And the curry was nice and savory, served the right amount to be finished off between the cutlet, omelet and rice. Altogether, the presentation of this dish was very pleasing and simple in a way that made it feel like home. This location is in one of the most populated parts of Koreatown. It’s highly recommended to find other means of transport to get here. There is parking validation but I’m unsure where exactly to park as there are multiple lots and the validation only works for one. But the traffic is enough to deter people from driving here. If you’re able to walk to this location, it’s a great choice in the area. The interior is decorated with spices and signage of curry. The staff are quick on their feet and even at peak dinner time on a weekend, it wasn’t too hard to be seated but the place was nearly full.
This was my first stop after arriving to LA. I've had Cocoichi in Japan multiple times. This was a pretty close experience. I ordered it to go and it was packed very well. The curry was starting to separate after my short drive. I actually tried 2 other locations and this was my least favorite experience. It's still good, so I still recommend trying it out!
Came here for quick late dinner. We ordered pork cutlet omelet and thin sliced beef curry with chicken cutlet. We ordered regular amount for everything. I thought we were gonna need more rice but it was actually plenty. The curry was little watery than my liking but overall it was good. We also ordered Keema cheese fries and it was delicious. Definitely recommend this. The servers were nice but extremely swamped. They also validate parking but you must park in specific garage. You have to park at the city center on 6th and Mariposa to get 2hr free parking.
First time to the Curry House, the food was great! I loved how easy it was to order and the many options to choose from. We got our curry piping hot 🔥 definitely will come back to try out the omelettes. The only thing that was lacking here, was the service. We ordered a high level of spice and it got annoying that we couldn't find anyone to refill our drinks. We spent more time waiting than actually eating. Other than that, worth a visit!
The cuisine was satisfactory, comprising Japanese curry, which I found to be rather ordinary. The service was abysmal; the attendant was exceedingly unkind. I requested an additional plate, but she failed to provide one. Upon inquiring in the kitchen, I received a dirty plate. When I expressed my dissatisfaction, she violently slammed the plate onto the table and brusquely handed me two more plates, maintaining her rudeness throughout the interaction.
+editing review: Yoooooooo this must be a joke! I ordered fried chicken and minced beef cutlet... I am upset! The chicken pieces are ridiculously small, and it's just fried crumbles, not chicken! The beef cutlet is way smaller than before. So disappointed!!! Look at this, this is not chicken 💀 I eat their spicy to relieve my stress
