Jun Won Dak Los Angeles Reviews
Pictures don't really do it justice - this is the most tender, flavorful fish I've had in a long time. Perfect with rice. I usually struggle with bone-in fish but the bones were very easy to find and discard. Side soup was also very good, tastes like a healing comfort soup. Called before we came to ensure seat availability since it's a tiny place
Excellent Chinese restaurant with consistently fresh, flavorful dishes and generous portions. Everything we ordered was hot, well-seasoned, and clearly made with care. The menu offers a great variety of classic favorites and house specialties, making it easy to find something for everyone. Service was friendly and efficient, and the food was ready quickly. A reliable spot for both dine-in and takeout — we’ll definitely be back.
Went to 5 other very popular korean restaurants on this trip and this place had the best korean food we tried. Coming from NJ Bergen county, we thought we had good korean food but this area is on another level. The Samgyetang and black cod was insane, didn’t talk because it was that good. Super hole in the wall, only has 2 tables for dine in but Jeff was extremely nice and hearing his story was inspiring. Must try korean food in LA
Tried the Samgyetang and Eun-Daegu and both were incredible and truly authentic! This place is such a hidden gem and definitely gives that hole in the wall vibe in the best way. You can really tell the owners care deeply about the food they serve and take pride in their dishes. I love that they only have four items on the menu, it shows how confident they are in their specialties. I’m already planning to come back the next time I’m in LA!
One of the best no-frills restaurants i have ever been to. Just amazing food and nothing to distract from it. Had the dakdori tang, was surprised that it was a whole chicken so bring a friend to eat with you. All of the portions seem to be made for two. Although I would not want to share any of the two year fermented radish so over to you. I am pretty sure I will have leftovers for maybe 2 meals. It’s rated as a Michelin spot and you can see why. I will definitely come back. I want to try the braised beef next time.
Great food and service. It’s a small restaurant that does mostly takeout but we were fortunate to grab a table and enjoy some amazing food. Everyone was super kind here and they even shared some pears with us for the lunar new year at the end of the meal.
OK Junwondak is such a ktown gem!! You can tell it’s a small business ran by a family (son & mom) who really cares. Everything tastes super homey, clean, and just really well made. Their braised cod (은대구찜) is honestly one of the best I’ve had. Very tender and the sauce is amazing. I love that they only have four things on the menu- it shows how confident they are in what they cook. It’s not pretentious at all, prices are fair, and the portions are great. I’m usually pretty selective and don’t go back to most restaurants, but I’m determined to try every single dish here.
Had one of the best meals of my life here. Amazing Korean food that feels like the most exceptional home cooking. Ran by the Chef Jeff and his mother with limited staff this is normally a to-go only spot and there’s only one table for reservation. We were lucky enough to sneak in between reservations and got to sit down and enjoy our meal. Chef Jeff treated us beyond kindly, making us feel at home and we shared a great conversation. The food is on another level, the atmosphere was welcoming and comfortable, and I respect Jeff’s values towards his sourcing and methods of preparing his ingredients to ensure the highest quality. I have never had a meal quite like this one. Thank you!!!
Amazingly focused dishes that are delicious. The owner Jeff is so friendly and welcoming. We'll be back again!
Delicious! I had the honor of meeting the Chef Owner. He was so kind and authentic. Generous servings! I ordered the Soy braised Black Cod and Whole Chicken Ginseng Soup. Both dishes are delightfully layered with rich, warm seasonings. The chicken and the fish are buttery soft, fall-off-the-bone tender. The vegetables are well marinated. I loved the house kimchi. This is food for the soul ✨️ The to-go food is also thoughtfully plated, with excellent to-go utensils. Jun Won Dak is my new favorite restaurant in the neighborhood!
Mostly a take away set up, but you can call ahead to book the one table on site. We feel super lucky to have booked the table on our family trip. You feel like you are in the chef owner's home, with the amazing service and the soul satisfying meal options. They import select ingredients from their contacts in Korea, so as to assure an authentic and best quality experience. The flavors when they fill your mouth let you know this is the real deal. If you get the chance, have a chat with the personable owner. We will support this mom and son restaurant whenever we are in the area.
The phrase “hidden gem” gets overused a lot in LA but there’s no other way to describe this place. Called ahead to reserve one of the two tables, and while on the phone the owner Jeff asked if we’d like to put the order in on the phone so they could start cooking it since it takes about 30 minutes to make. We arrived about 20 minutes later and he greeted us warmly and sat us down, quickly bringing out the banchan followed by white rice and ginseng soup to start. After a little while the main event, the galbi jjim came out, and Jeff cut it all up and took out the bones table side while chatting with us. It was absolutely delicious in every way. Less sweet than the version at a more popular local place that we’ve been to before. Perfectly balanced. Such a great price for a massive portion, with above and beyond hospitality. Jeff, you’re the man!
Definitely love this restaurant and I have recommended it to several of my friends! My gf and I ordered a chicken and a fish, and the chef split the chicken to two bowls for us, so thoughtful! The fish has a tender and delicate texture, with a flavor that combines a hint of spiciness and a touch of sweetness. The broth is rich and flavorful, and there’s plenty of fish, making it a satisfying dish. Also, the chef and his families are so friendly. It’s a small restaurant but probably the best restaurant in Ktown!
Four signature dishes. We tried three! We loved every one of them. The owner is super friendly and nice. The plants and flowers in the restaurant make the space so cozy and lovely. The food is BEYOND INCREDIBLE!! The portions are SOOO GENEROUS! All my friends are very happy with this place. ^___^
January2025: First time here after Google searching best galbi-jjim in LA, and boy was it! It was savory delicious - had deep soy flavors accented with sliced jujubes and pine nuts, making for a gorgeous presentation. The menu is limited (only 4 items), which I bet means they prepare each dish with a lot of love and heart. I'll be back to try the other 3 items, for sure. It's a small mom and son-run take-out only joint, so call your order ahead.

I am quite picky about food, but the samgyetang here satisfied me enough. It was my first time trying samgyetang here today, and it was savory with tender chicken meat. The jujube, ginseng, and chestnut inside blended well with the broth, providing ample satisfaction. The portion was generous, enough for two people even for those with smaller appetites. However, it's a bit disappointing that the space is cramped and there are only two small tables for dining in the store. But don't forget, this place specializes in takeout.

Great spot! Limited seating but we got there early so took all the seating (3/4). We came for the eundaegu jolim but got the samegye tang and dakdori tang as well. All of it was amazing and have to come back for the galbi jjim next time!
I saw a recommendation for this restaurant on Xiaohongshu. Everyone said it was the most delicious Samgyetang they had ever had. The soup was incredibly flavorful, the chicken was tender, and the flavors of the jujube slices, chestnuts, and pine nuts blended perfectly. I had a whole bowl. I came with my boyfriend, and the owner was very considerate, helping us divide the soup into two bowls. For those with smaller appetites, half a bowl is enough to feel full. It’s unbelievable that $24 is enough to fill two people at a Michelin-recommended restaurant! The owner and their family were incredibly warm and friendly. Dining in such a cozy restaurant was truly an honor. I highly recommend this place to anyone who loves soup!
Jonathan Gold recommended place for the soy-braised black cod dish ($40, not cheap but well made, good portion). Fed 2 ladies and my 2 toddlers who ate a ton. Even tho it was a tad spicy for them but they loved it! Samgyetang broth served with dine in only, but the place specializes in to-go with 4 items on their menu. They have a 2 top table in the front, and a 4-top in the space next to the kitchen, behind the cash register. So it was like a chef’s table experience with the main cook and her son, a la Buca di Beppo Chef’s Table! So great chatting with them about the history and evolution of their restaurant since the pandemic. I want to try their galbi-jjim next, I saw it and it looks like it feeds 3 adults. The Samgyetang broth was amazing, I will get that next time I need some major nutrients because it has wood ginseng and lots of minerals. (Feeds like 1 hungry person). You could call ahead to reserve the 4-top chefs table. Or the 2-top.
One of my favorite spots! The braised cod, beef, samgyetang chicken soup you cannot go wrong with it. Tender, flavorful, you can really taste the love, respect, and pride in the food. This place is a gem and the beloved mother and son behind this institution are true stewards of Korean cuisine and Ktown!
This is one of the best dining experiences we've had in LA! It is mainly a takeout place but you can call and reserve one of their 3 tables in advance to enjoy their fresh dishes on the spot. We had the braised cod and samyetang which were sooo tasty and nourishing. The owner and his mom were very sweet and attentive.
Forget sun nong dan. The galbi jjim here is so good. I had it to go though for reference. The meat is very tender soft and flavorful. Big chunks of meat. the portion size is for two people. I’m coming back.
The food is made with love, the quality is unmatched, and the portions are generous. Jeff is a saint, and his mom is the most discerning quality control a restaurant could possibly have. I can’t say enough good things about this wonderful food and the people who run it. Simply the best

Incredible food, amazing family run restaurant. The best Korean food I’ve had at a restaurant. The cod dish is a must have and all of the sides are homemade and seasoned perfectly. Lovely owners and the freshest food I’ve had in LA. I’ll be back.
I ordered the Dakdori Tang, and honestly it was terrible. The chicken pieces were unnaturally huge, almost turkey-sized, and more importantly, the chicken smell was extremely strong and unpleasant. I could not eat a single piece. It smelled so bad that I had to throw the entire dish away. It honestly felt like this was not freshly made, more like it had been cooked earlier and reheated. Either way, it was completely inedible. I will never order from here again, and if you are thinking about ordering Dakdori Tang from this place, do yourself a favor and do NOT order it
