Sam’s Place Los Angeles Reviews
The vibe here is warm and inviting, and the food truly impressed us. Every dish that came to the table was cooked just right and packed with flavor.
So reliably delicious. I don’t drink, so I come for the food — the steak, sweet potato, and wings are my favorites
Limited wine selection, but what we had hit the mark. About $15/glass. The sesame honey wings were really good & only heard great stuff about rest of menu. Great vibe with eclectic cassette tapes on the stereo and tasteful decor. It was lively in there and not pretentious at all. HLP now has a great little selection for wine you could walk to between Sam’s Place, Holcomb, Byron Blatty & Vinovore. Makes for a great Sunday afternoon.
Obsessed with this new spot. Amazing food with quality ingredients for a super reasonable price. Curated selection of beers and wine that pair perfectly with food. The pickle butter, sweet potatoes and wings were amazingggg. Love the option of indoor or patio too!
The vibes here are unreal. The pickle compound butter on sourdough was absolutely TO DIE FOR. 10/10 will be back very soon!

Beautiful bar with both indoor & outdoor seating. Service was quick and the staff really nice. (Especially Ezra!) Prices are a bit high but that’s to be expected of a place like this. The Japanese sweet potato was amazing and I love that they have good non alcoholic options. Good amount of street parking!
i feel like this is one of those rare places that exudes calm, does everything at a really high level, is never too cool, and keeps it friggin smooth. scotty and crew, nestled between the brick patio and the wood paneled walls, have found a way to slow down time with warm service, a strong food program, and a well-curated wine list. really special spot
Excellent, dimly lit atmosphere perfect for a date or a drink out with friends. Very limited menu with a large selection of wines, many naturals to choose from. The staff are very kind people and they’ve done a beautiful job redecorating the space. It’s been a few different cafes over the years, but Sam has earned a lot of popularity and we hope it’s here to stay
Great atmosphere and amazing food! All the plates we ordered were delicious and perfectly cooked. The sweet potato dish was a standout for us due to its unique flavor combo that works too well that we had to order a second plate.
The coolest wine bar I’ve ever had the privilege of coming into. Food was delicious and well priced and the wine/beer selection was stellar. Definitely would drive two hours for the pickle butter and steak alone.
I am so grateful this bar exists. A rarity and gem in LA. Perfect wine list, perfect food, perfect staff
This is a special place. Intimate setting, and delicious food at a very reasonable price. We had the herb salad, the Japanese sweet potato, bread & butter and the steak. Everything was amazing. The sweet potato and steak were the stand outs. We look forward to coming back and trying the wings. Only thing I wish is they had more NA options.
My new favorite wine bar. Very imoressed with yhe design and layout of the space, music sounded amazing. Menu was small and concise. Going to go as much as I can.
Very warm and cozy. Wonderful service. A gem in great upcoming LA neighborhood.
Packed on a Friday night- super quick service, friendly, incredibly tight wine list. 💯

Great little joint, friendly knowledgeable staff, fun laid back atmosphere

This spot is amazing! The food is top notch, the drink selection is fantastic, and the vibes are just great. Staff and decor are lovely. Really enjoyed every second I was there and will definitely be going back.
Early bird gets the worm! If you can, try to arrive right at opening to snag a seat. The place fills up fast. Honestly, you can’t go wrong with anything on the menu. Highlights for me were the sweet potatoes (still dreaming about them), wings, and shrimp. Can’t wait to come back.
Nice place, great small menu, good beer and wine.

Nice place, great small menu, good beer and wine.
the food here is incredible - legit every plate I had was delicious (wings, beans, sweet potato, the steak and bread). However, this place would greatly benefit with the use of a host. There will be 2-6 groups at any time desperately trying to find and fight for a seat and it’s highly uncomfortable. I had a lovely time with my friends but when I tell you someone was sitting in my seat before I even fully stood up, I mean it. It was a little wild 😅 Anyway, the food is totes worth it. I dream of the sweet potato drenched in tahini.
This bar is too cool to have anybody greet you or organize any process for seating people so if tables are full (almost always) you’re sort of left just hovering over people’s tables hoping they’ll leave soon. Such a funny thing for a place to be all about ~vibes~ and yet they don’t do the bare minimum of actually making the process of being seated clear or enjoyable. Hipster doofus behavior.
Listen i don’t usually leave reviews like ever so i hate to be that person but I really disliked the service here. I totally get that it’s bar service so no one is gonna really seat you or serve you but you really wouldn’t know that coming in and also, bar service doesn’t mean you don’t smile and acknowledge your customers! I almost felt like they begrudged me being there and when the food came they basically just tossed it on our table with not more than a word. Sure, the food is not terrible but for that price range and service? wild. tbh, I’d recommend putting your money in a mom&pop spot where the people working there do not resent your being there lol and you get at least one hi or smile

The sweet potato is good. Bartender treated me with total contempt. Nice wine selection
