toast bakery cafe Los Angeles Reviews
What a gem! This place is the best!!! I was craving a ham & cheese croissant and they made it for me no problem and omg it is the best I’ve had in LA. The owner Josette is from France and is always in making sure the quality is perfect and her customers are happy. This is a true neighborhood spot that deserves all the support.
Toast Bakery Cafe is a quaint cafe, it’s a Los Angeles staple for brunch on 3rd street. Every time I’m on 3rd it draws my attention, outside seating is comfy and your not on top of each-other if you know what I mean. Service was friendly and knowledgeable. They are known for pancakes and toast, but the savory menu did intrigue me as well! So that’s what I ordered the stuff french toast, if you love banana budding and caramel and sweet it’s your go to! But I would consider this more of a sharing meal for your table! Cause just alone it was good but I wouldn’t want it all for myself! Overall, vibes were good and I’d definitely come back, gotta try more beverages and maybe try that burrito!
The Stuffed French toast was tasty. (It is served with a nut topping, which I skipped) I also tried the Key Lime cheesecake, which was delicious and light, with a more deli texture and taste, which I really enjoyed. Not too sweet or heavy. I will definitely go back to try other menu items next time.
Amazing food and service. The owner was super friendly and hospitable. An example to be set for all restaurant owners. We'll definitely come back.
The Food: The bread and spreads were top notch! The pesto bread was the best and cooked fresh. Both the pesto spread and the jam was made on site so it was super fresh. I had the eggwhich and fruit which hit the spot. The fruit was fresh also. The potatoes were a little lackluster in regards to crunch and flavor. The service: The servers seemed nice and helpful. We did have to ask for napkins a few times before we finally got them but it wasn't too bad. I would say service was 4.5/5 for that one reason. Location: of course the parking is difficult in this area but if you can find a meter (which is not exceptionally difficult on a Sunday morning) then you can park close to the location. You can choose to eat outside or inside. If it's a nice day, eating outside can be a pleasant experience. I would definitely recommend this for a breakfast/Sunday brunch location for a small group or couple.
Breakfast was delicious. The portion sizes are really fair and they have some of the best fruit that I have had in a long time. Everything we ordered was cooked well, and they have a lot of great options on the menu to choose from. We arrived at 10 AM Saturday for brunch and were able to sit down right after arriving. Parking in this area can be tough at times but I was able to find metered parking a half a block away. Our server was also pretty quick and all the food items came out fast as well. We ordered the Eggs Benedict, which was terrific, and the French Toast, which also was delicious. The portion sizes are really large, and as mentioned, the fruit side was especially fresh and tasty. We ordered lattes as well which I recommend because they really give a large portion, and it had a great flavor to it. Overall a great breakfast, and I would recommend to anyone. I plan to be back in the future to try other items.
Standard, basic breakfast/brunch spot. Loved the location on 3rd and plenty of outside seating. Service was prompt and food was okay. The portobello omelet was the best. Salad was good too. The 3 mini cheese burgers were just ok but the fries were good. The ultimate breakfast burrito was NOT good. It had too much potato and I couldn’t taste anything else. Otherwise, it was a good place to grab a quick brunch.
Love, love, love this little corner spot! I always sit outside and enjoy people watching while enjoying a good meal! If you're easily star struck don't come here because ur bound to run into someone but no one ever really makes a big fuss because those people, also just want to enjoy their meal and their "me" time. And one must respect that too. But service is great and food selection is good too. I love TOAST!
The food was beyond our expectation, the staff made the experience more enjoyable with their friendly and professional attitude. Especially Bill who recommended the best on the menu with honest opinions regarding the food. Everything we ordered was amazing and tasty. All thanks to the staff who made this visit memorable in specific, Gustavo. Would highly recommend this restaurant.
Good brunch spot that has hearty portions and comfort food favorites. The atmosphere is casual and lively, especially on weekends. Warm service, but waits are common. The portions are OK in size and the price is OK for what you get, the food was served on time and fresh. I’d come back when I’m in the area.
Very cute bakery/breakfast spot. The service was excellent, waiters were very friendly and food was out quickly. The portions are huge. Ordered the banana chocolate chip pancakes and thought they were good but a bit dry. The avocado toast was delicious and came with a nice salad. Do recommend.
I was excited to eat there after I saw the reviews online. Unfortunately I had a bad experience there. My server not only took a while to come give me a menu and take my order. My food was deliver by a different server and on top of that my sever never came to ask how the food was or to refill my coffee the busboy was the one that refilled my coffee on top of that they never came to even give me the check I had to ask for it to the busboy again. Another server who wasn’t the one the room the order came and finally gave me the check. Coffee was really good and so where the pancakes, eggs where le a little dry but good overall. Service was a deal breaker for me
This was my absolute favorite brunch place for many, many years. As the many reviews can attest, it was great food and value. Unfortunately, sometime in 2024, Chef Josette Leblond purchased this somewhat iconic LA eatery and ruined it. Half the menu is gone, prices are at least 50-60% more than they were, quality is non-existent and the long-time servers were replaced with busboys with iPads. What was once a consistently packed brunch spot is now basically a ghost town all day long. Really sad and shame on her for ruining this place. Attaching a photo of my $22 "gourmet breakfast."
I was let down by this spot. The food is just sub par. IKEA has better tasting food unfortunately. The bacon was old and precooked. The pancakes were over beaten and rubbery with minimal taste to them. The eggs tasted decent. It’s hard to mess up eggs. Ordered over easy and got more of an over medium/hard. One of the waiters shirt smelled like a dirty mildew mop and it was difficult to want to eat with that smell. My stomach turns thinking about it again. I do not recommend this place. Even even if there’s nowhere else to eat.
They changed ownership. I used to come here for the croissant french toast. It was amazing. Now it’s just a little bit of croissant on top of a regular french toast. They brought the cream 15 minutes after they brought the food, and did not tell is that they were bringing it, so by the time it arrived there was little food left to eat it with. The coffee was meh, and yet still cost $7 I’m just sad that one of my favorite places is no more.
First, servers were kind, sweet and hospitable. The chef, however was terrible. My partner and I got our food around 45-50 minutes after ordering. We sat in front of the chef’s window. We saw her cooking food for a couple that arrived about 20 minutes after us. My partner ordered an avocado toast. The bread was cold, the presentation was horrible, the greens looked welted - I mean it was bad. The french toast was soggy and undercooked. The chef didn’t come out to apologize either. The servers were doing their best though. Lady, this is not how you treat your employees or your customers.
