Oh wow. The best bowl I ever had. We were visiting Lubbock for the first time and found this place. Had the chimichurri bowl and it was delicious, every ingredient tasted fresh, and guess that's why it takes a little longer to get your food but it's worth it. Skip the other chain rest that starts with C and come here.

The one in Dallas is still the best for me, but these are good too!

I’m pretty sure those two tacos I had today were the best I’ve eaten. I don’t mean to be too controversial, but I think the food here is better than Torchy’s. It doesn’t have the same atmosphere - it’s a little smaller and more casual - but the flavors are off charts amazing. Service was also great. The guy taking orders was friendly and helpful.

With all the food places it was hard to decide but so glad we landed here. The taco combo is a great value and the food was amazing! The house margarita is a must and don't get me started on the red velvet cake! What are you waiting for?

Some of the best tacos I've ever had. I've never seen a taco menu like this which includes both regular tacos as well as unexpected types like chicken tikka, fish and chips, or chicken and waffles tacos. I got a 2 taco plate with rice, a drink, a chicken tikka taco, and a mexi-cali shrimp taco. All of the food looked and tasted great, and I felt like I definitely got enough food for my money. it was fast to order, fast to get out food and it was nice sitting outside on the shaded patio with music playing on the speakers. I will definitely be back here again many times in the future.

Velvet Taco is one of my favorite places to eat. Good vegetarian tacos. Very fun and creative menu of taco options. The red Velvet cake is a bonus. Also serves beer and other alcoholic drinks.

This place is awesome. I got the grilled salmon tacos with chips and guac for $12.80, WHAT... $12.80... my wife got a veggie bowl and loved it. Had to give it 5 stars. The dude at the counter with the bandana taking orders, etc. Really good.

We ordered two combos, one with the smash burger taco and the slow roasted brisket. I loved it!!! The second combo was my husbands, he got a the chicken and waffle taco and a buffalo chicken taco. He couldn’t eat the buffalo chicken taco because of the sauce. But no problem! The staff was quick to find something else he likes and they gave him another taco for free!!! My son order the kids tenders and he was content. My daughter ordered the kids chicken taco and she enjoyed it as well! The food was delicious and perfect amount of portions!! If you know what your usually go-to food choices are, this place is supper easy to pick and enjoy 😇 I will definitely visit again soon!!

Food is exceptional. Small dinning room so atmosphere is a bit lacking. Defiantly not a place for a large party. Service was good. When they call you to get your food it’s with a spin. You do have to clean up after yourself. I will say this is the best place in Lubbock for tacos! I will be back.

This was only my second visit to a Velvet Taco anywhere and omg I wasn’t disappointed. This location is literally across the street from the Texas Tech campus so I finally had the chance to visit this weekend. I was there around 5p on Saturday and it was empty, which was good for me because there was little to no wait. There maybe 3 other people there - I’m sure they get busy later with the college crowd, but this was perfect for me. Restaurant was clean and had lots of local references in the decor. I enjoyed the chicken tikka taco last time so ordered it again - still great, strong praise for consistency across locations! I tried the breaded cauliflower for the first time as it was marked as a fan favorite and now I know why! The cauliflower is nice and meaty, the breading is light, and the toppings just came together very nicely. I live banh mi sandwiches so was excited to try this monthly special taco, it didn’t really work for me. I would’ve liked it better had there been just a tad more sweetness to some element, preferably the pickled onions. The blue corn tortilla chips were crispy, fresh, and just a tad bit salty - so perfect and since I ordered to go, I got a huge bag of them! And the elote was perfectly balanced with cheese, mayo/hot sauce, and the corn was grilled and tasty. Staff was friendly, order was ready quickly, overall I’d rate this location higher than 5 stars if I had the option!

We started our order off with the chips & queso which are delish. I had the chicken and mac & cheese taco. For a picky eater like myself, it was challenging finding something that didn’t contain a few things that I would want to omit. My husband ordered the number 11.5 and said the steak was cooked perfectly and it was well seasoned. The tacos are about $4-5 each and so depending on how many tacos you want, the price can really add up. For our 3 tacos and order of queso, it was about $30. If you’re in a hurry, I’d recommend ordering from the app. It doesn’t take long to get your food, but in rush hour, I can see it taking a bit longer.

To me, the tacos were just ok. The ingredients could have been more fresh, especially for the price. I think I would give it another chance, maybe it was an off day at the restaurant. The red velvet cake was very good!

Interesting taco restaurant! They have a large variety of tacos that are very unique. The tacos were pretty good. You could see the staff works really hard and they did a great job. Really enjoyed their queso, it also has a unique flavor unlike places I’ve been to before. The star of the show, for me, was their red velvet cake. It was so delicious! Definitely give them a try if you are looking for something new.

Lots of funky tacos available at Velvet Taco. The taco fillings were tasty. The tacos came out in a giant taco holder which was visually appealing but not very convenient since each person's tacos weren't together, and they also didn't give us plates to put them on - I had to go back and grab some. The corn tortillas fell apart and didn't taste super fresh. The red velvet cake was delicious.

We visited the Velvet Taco while in Lubbock for the night. They have a couple of things marked with GF on their menu, and they have a dog friendly patio. We both got the Quesa Birria Brisket Duo and a margarita. Very yummy! We decided to get another order of the tacos and a protein bowl for lunch the next day. I'm not sure about the safety of their kitchen, so we had some Gluten Ease pills before eating.

I have been hearing about this place from a friend and it did not disappoint, the birria tacos were your normal good quality birria tacos. But i love chicken and waffles and this was probably the best combination of chicken and waffles ive ever had. The service was great, very fast and friendly. Initially, I loved this place. Now their tacos have become acceptable. I recommend the chicken taco and the Thai taco. Chips and queso are not worth the money.

I really like this place. But I had they're Weekly food last week. It was like the double layered carne asada or something. It was bad. It was really bland and their hot sauce tasted like atomic from wingstop. I don't think this restaurant is bad. But the carne asada was bad. I'm going to go back and get something else next time and I'm sure it will be delicious.

Loved the food. The tacos were amazing... the street corn was also amazing... clerk at the register was having a very off day and messed up our order and seemed to get upset when we asked for the food to go after she started placing everything on a tray. I would go back and try it again, only bc the food was really yummy.

It is a little pricey to me. The chicken and beef were cooked really well. The grilled flank steak had just the right amount of toppings. The chicken one had good flavor but excessive toppings. This is not you $1.50 taco stand.

I am sure everyone was excited of this celebration of the new red velvet taco location opened. Anyways, cutting to the chase. One, the red velvet cake did not taste like red velvet. My friend stated that it tasted like "play dough." Chip's tasted great the coconut cheese sauce barley had coconut flavor. The cheese did overwhelmed the coconut. Shrimp taco was delicious, I'd recommend anyone who loves seafood and the other's tasted pretty decent, but again. I am sure the chefs are learning how to cook. Definitely, will come back in a month or so to try it out again.

Food tastes good but they have to improve their drive through service. I literally waited for an 45mins for my food although there was one car ahead of me. What i have I observed is that they have lack of staff to get things done. If it was 15-20mins, the wait would be worth for the taste. I still appreciate the quality and taste of the food they serve.

I have eaten in many velvet taco locations but today got worst taco ever. Maybe the person making it does not like his job or does not know how to assemble a taco. Went in for a take out today 8/21/2024 order # 30 ordered 3 veg tacos #4 #5 and #6.5 time 12:33pm. The paneer taco had just two pieces of paneer in a flour tortilla and nothing else. No garnishing no sauce. It was definitely a sorry excuse for a taco. I have picture to prove it. #velvettaco #velvettacolubbock went near the university location! Look at the picture attached.

Not sure why there’s a separate location for Velvet Taco than the original one, but it is fitting. This new atmosphere, one of apathy and a smaller menu, holds a one star rating that I would have never dreamed of placing on the old location. Apparently this is a “Tester Store” and corporate tests new ideas at this location before making them more widespread. Pretty crazy news when they rarely have the Weekly Taco Feature that is being broadcast on social medias. I have advocated for this store against Torchy’s for years, for their extensive menu, their lower prices, their customer service, and much more. Velvet, you have broken my heart and lost a forever customer. Excited to order a Trashy Trailer Park and Green Chili Pork from across the parking lot. (The guy who calls out the taco orders with the dyed hair is and will always be the only MVP of this establishment)

Velvet Taco seriously messed up by taking away their steak options like the chimichurri steak taco. That was the only reason I even bothered coming here, and now the menu feels cheap and boring. Who takes away one of the best tacos they’ve ever had on the menu? It feels like they don’t care about loyal customers at all. Honestly, without the steak tacos, this place just isn’t worth it anymore. CONGRATS ON LOSING COSTUMERS!!! The staff is really great though.
