Cervecería Gonmar Madrid Reviews
It's incredible that a bar with different owners has been going strong and packed for over 60 years. The secret to its success? The way they make pig's ears (and patatas bravas). Plus, the staff behind the bar are incredibly friendly and helpful. The place isn't very big; you have to find a little corner to fit your plate of pig's ears and beer. Congratulations to the whole team!
A truly authentic Madrid tavern. The perfect place for a few beers with a tapa of pig's ear or potato. The beer is ice cold and the food is very authentic. They also have other dishes, but it's the typical fare. A traditional, long-established place; my father-in-law, who's from the neighborhood, brought me here.
What a delicious aubergine and what brava potatoes. Lacón's reaction was very good. The best aubergine I've ever had. It's usually always packed, but it's worth having a couple of ice-cold beers with the aubergine and the brava potatoes. Neighborhood atmosphere and very attentive and efficient staff.
Amazing place! In my quest to go to one bar in every neighborbood in Madrid (131 total neighborhoods), my friends that live in the neighborhood took me to Cervecería Gonmar and it was phenomenal. The patatas bravas were fantastic! However, the star dish, the grilled pig ear, was simply to die for! Also, the service was fantastic. A classic neighborhood spot. Grilled pig's ear and patatas bravas are their specialty, and they're worth the trip. It's always packed (and deservedly so) and always has draft beer. The chef is very experienced, which makes everything run smoothly and efficiently.
A bar in Carabanchel specializing in grilled pig's ear. We went early on a Saturday to try it, and they'd already had the grill going for a while. The bar is quite small. It has a bar area and then a few low tables. I got the impression that if you don't order anything else, they give you a free portion of pig's ear with your drink. We ordered a portion of pig's ear, so they brought us a small portion of patatas bravas. The pig's ear is already marinated and topped with parsley. And luckily for me, it doesn't have garlic, and the brava sauce is served separately. Honestly, it's worth a trip to Carabanchel just for the pig's ear. It's perfectly crispy on the outside, juicy and tender on the inside. The staff was friendly. You can pay with cash or card. We paid €15 for everything (three beers and a portion of pig's ear).
I've eaten the ahi from this place for many years, and maybe this time I thought it was a bit toasted, but they've maintained the same quality of their products. The potatoes are still delicious and natural. The atmosphere is noisy, but that's due to the number of people who come to this place.
A classic bar, the kind that have disappeared from the city center but still survive beyond the M30 ring road. They have excellent pig's ear, with a good reputation, although I prefer it crispy. The patatas bravas are traditional, made with the classic recipe: boiled and fried potatoes, large chunks, and no spicy tomato sauce.
Very good specialities: pork ear and bravas. Fast service and good rations for the price. Not many tables so you better ask for a reservation and don't go later than 21:30 for dinner
A classic bar. They specialize in pig's ear, and it's decent, but not 5-star quality. The waitress was unfriendly, and the prices weren't cheap for the area and the place. Skip to it.
What a disappointment! I'd heard good things about this place, but it must have been years ago. We asked for a menu and were told it only had potatoes, acorn, calamari, and croquettes. We decided on a portion of bravas and a portion of acorn. The potatoes are cut too large, and the sauce isn't bad. The acorn is good. But the portion sizes seem small to me. You can order a half portion, and it's ridiculous; the small plate is the same as the appetizers. Another downside is that you can't pay by card.
We arrived with high expectations, which, unfortunately, weren't met. They advertised it as the temple of pig's ear in Madrid, but I've had much better. They brought out two tapas with our drinks: the first was rubbery; the second, crispier, did have more flavor. Their other star dish is patatas bravas, and we weren't impressed either: they were barely spicy (they are bravas, after all), and since the potato chunks were quite large, we felt the amount of sauce was insufficient. It was homemade and tasty, though. The service deserves a special mention: in our first round, we had to ask three times if they were going to bring us anything, while people who arrived later were getting things brought out; some people got two small plates, we only got one; then we ordered another drink, they forgot, and we had to ask for it again a few minutes later. Everything was very inconsistent. We went with high hopes, but I doubt we'll be back. A disappointment.
I first came across this place 40 years ago; it used to be the best for grilled pig's ear. But yesterday, I took some friends there, telling them it was the best for grilled pig's ear, and my disappointment was palpable. The ear was burnt on one side and raw on the other; it was more like gelatin. The portion was smaller, which I was actually glad about, and the price was higher. The product isn't the same, and neither are the Latino people who run it. I know I can't recommend this place. I'm giving it one star, but only for disappointment.
