Chubby's Diner Manteca Reviews
Big fan of breakfast. Out of all the places I've visited nothing compared to chubbys in manteca. The got there stuff down. On top of the customer service being spectacular, the food is out of this world.. chicken fried steak, eggs Benedict, porkchops, ect.. and please do yourself a favor and get the banana nut french toast. Probably one of the best things I've had in my life. Love you chubbys see ya soon
We love this place the whole family goes there, and they know our names and there's 15 of us.. Good food good people that work there it's just an awesome place to eat.. they treat us like family and we feel like family!
The people in Chubby's go out of their way to make you feel at home and welcome. Carli always has a smile. Teri and Sheri know just how to make your day. Al always knows your name after only one visit. The food is great and a great value. Hats off to Chubby's!
This is a great place to go for good food, interesting atmosphere and friendly staff. If you like a super clean restaurant and 50's music, you will feel right at home here.
Fantastic breakfast diner, everything tastes awesome, everything is well priced and the staff is extremely helpful and patient. I love this new location and I love the classic American style diner theme. Highly recommended.
Chubby's is by far the best diner I have ever been to. The service is amazing and the food is twice as better. The whole vibe that the place puts off is awesome and I can't wait to go back. Definite 10/10
BEST DARN BURGERS YOU WILL GET !!! The rolls are flavorful and not the spongy fall apart ones you get at most places. They are friendly and always accommodating to make it the way you want it. Highly recommend Chubby's
Excellent omelettes made with large portions and very little Grease. They have a ham and cheese French toast sandwich which will blow your mind. The Ambiance is wonderfully 50's and the staff is extremely friendly. They came to a table at least four times checking on us. This is definitely a great breakfast spot in Manteca.
This restaurant was such a fun experience. Three of us (60, 72, & 88 years old) decided to get a burger but we wanted something different. My daughter (27 yrs. old) said that it was one of her favorite eating places where her and her friends can get good food at a reasonable cost. We ordered off of the breakfast & lunch portions of the menu. It took us at least ten minutes to decide because there was five pages of choices. I ordered a waffle and I have to say that it was the worst waffle that I'd ever tasted. So I called the waitress (Shelby) over and explained that I would like to order something else and that the waffle was terrible. She was so sweet about not making me feel crummy about sending back my food. So, I ordered a BLT and it was the best that I'd ever had! So all went well. My two friends also thoroughly enjoyed their meals. Now on to the restaurant..... It was so cool because the walls were covered with everything from the 50's. Cars, pictures, Christmas decorations and anything else from that era that you can think of! We were there about an hour mainly looking at everything. They even had the walk of stars. It was just too cool! 😎 I can honestly say that this was the most enjoyable lunch that I'd had in a very long time. We paid our bill and left a nice tip for our waitress who was a wonderful asset to our experience. As we were walking out, I walked up to Shelby and handed her an extra $6.00 tip and I told her thank you again for not making me feel bad about sending back my waffle. She gave me a big smile and that made me feel even better. So, if you want a great lunch (except for the waffles) along with a trip back to the "good old days of the 50's", stop by and enjoy the abundance of choices including breakfast, lunch or dinner and their friendly staff and great service. Thanks Chubby's ☺ for the yummy food!
My 1st time at Chubbys and I am impressed. I had their most popular omelette , sorry can't remember the name but it was fantastic! The French toast was awesome as well as their chili bean breakfast burrito. I also love the 1950s or 1960s Diner atmosphere . I will be going back many more times to dine here. Update: The corned beef hash and the corned beef hash skillet are also very tasty and I would recommend trying these dishes !
Used to love this place. Then it fell off so I stopped going. But my friends convinced me to try it again today, and I'm glad they did! Burgers are back to their glory, and their breakfasts were on point as well. I'll be returning again soon. 🤘
Great service, decent food, the owner is very personal. Always makes sure you are a happy customer. The shakes and burgers are my favorite every time I go.
The food is amazing... Definitely get the biscuits and gravy if you go... My dad had a stroke five months ago and the place where he is at feeds him poorly and his friends sneak him in food from here and he kills it off... It definitely gives my dad life... Plus Joe works here... He is my good friend Lynn's dad and he is an amazing guy... I miss him when he is there because we haven't had the chance to meet but I definitely owe him a hug because Lynn is definitely one of his greatest accomplishments in this world... He is blessed to have an amazing and I thank him for instilling in her the values she has!
Very quick service with incredibly nice staff. We go here once a week and every time the food is excellent and NEVER cold. I would recommend this resturant to anyone.
Cute little diner... gives a bit of retro flair. Food is delish. A must try
Took my mom there for breakfast and we sat next to Elvis. She instantly fell in love! It's her new favorite spot! Incredibly priced & high quality food & service!
The breakfast is so good and for the same meal about $10.00 less expensive. The sour dough toast TASTES like sour dough and the chefs understand how to make over medium eggs. Our new favorite place for breakfast!
I've been going to Chubby since before it moved to the new building. I've definitely never lost my love for their food and service. In my own experience Chubby's is a huge part of Manteca and I hope we'll always be
Loved this place, went there for the 1st time today. Super excited to go back and keep trying more items on their awesome menu! Great and fast service!!
I love the decor and vibe here. The food was ok. I had the Ruben and it was a bit soggy for me... It's a bit pricy, but I would come back and try something different.
Very friendly and courteous service and fantastic food! It's always fantastic highly recommend
So cute and fun and super yummy! Really big portions, great prices, extremely sweet and friendly staff - - loved it! Definitely going to be a regular ☺️👍🏾
I truly like this place. I love their stake sandwich with fries, I just wish they would stay open a bit longer. I can't go during the week because of work. Maybe you guys can maybe open for dinner once a week.
I highly recommend this 50s style diner in the heart of the valley. Food is amazing, service is on top of it. Everything on their menu is out of this world
Excellent food and service. First time here and will definitely be back 😋🍔🥞🍳. Garlic fries were 🔥. Burger was huge and delicious. Highly recommend. Great food and 50's retro vibe 👍👍
Dinner was very fast! Staff was very friendly. Sodas were given in large glasses so refills weren't needed as often. I liked the atmosphere, very diner-ish! It was on a friday, and nearby there were several older cars, with the drivers hanging out! I highly recommend.
Super cute 50s diner with a huge menu! I had the tres leches pancakes. They were perfectly fluffy and not crazy sweet because I got the caramel on the side. Coffee was good too.
Wow. I haven't been this impressed in a while. My second time there and the guy behind the counter remembered my first visit and what I had ordered even though it had been two or three weeks. I can't remember the last time I have had service that was this friendly. Combine that with two great meals in a row and super reasonable prices and this place hits a perfect trifecta. Hats off to Chubby's for knowing their trade.
We meet up with family and friends for a family breakfast on weekends. Now that I am on Keto I’m constantly looking for a variety of options to change it up and they have a ton of great omelettes to choose from. I always give my mother in law the pancakes and hash browns. My husband always gets the chicken fried steak breakfast. The fifties style atmosphere is fun with a friendly staff.
1st time here. Food was delicious, coffee cup was always full, clean & the decor & music was fantastic! Service was great too! Glad it's close to our home cuz we'll be back again!
Great service! Took my kids on a Sunday morning for some laughs and breakfast. Our server was Mya and she is very tentative to all her tables. We will definitely come back for breakfast and dinner next time. Thanks Chubby's
They are fast and friendly. My dad is a regular, and they always know his order! Great atmosphere and the food is good and affordable.
It was a great 50's type diner. The food came out hot and prepared exactly the way it was ordered. Would definitely recommend it.
Came here with my family. The place is nice and clean. We literally only waited 5 minutes for our food. The fastest service ever at a sit down restaurant.
Good burger. Really filling portions.
If you’re looking for a place that doesn’t just serve food, but serves memories, vibes, and straight-up magic, Chubby’s Diner in Manteca is it. From the moment you step inside, the 1950s charm hits you like a wave of nostalgia—classic music, retro décor, and a layout that feels like it was designed to make every visit an experience, not just a meal. Being raised in Manteca, this place feels like home wrapped in neon lights and vinyl booths. Every detail—the jukebox hum, the chrome accents, the way the air feels filled with passion and romance—makes it the perfect spot for a date night that actually feels special, whether it’s with your wife, girlfriend, or someone you want to impress. The energy here is electric yet cozy, like stepping into a time capsule where everything good about the past meets the joy of the present. Chubby’s Diner isn’t just a restaurant; it’s a love letter to the heart of Manteca and the timeless joy of good food, good vibes, and good company. Legendary. Iconic. A must-experience.
Reminds me of Mels Drive In in the Bay Area. My friend enjoyed her breakfast. Me not so much , the cheesecake French toast was not so great, disapointing. Coffee was Luke warm, like mine hot.
Unfortunately, we walked in couple of minutes before 1pm. They still accommodated us, which was greatly appreciated. I wish I had remembered our waiters name but he was a gentleman. Thank you for sharing some stories with us. My husband had an omelet, and i had spam eggs with everything potatoes. I will be back with my mom for sure.
Good home cooking, nice size portions. Great place for a good country style breakfast. Great looking 50's style Diner, lots of decorations and some good Elvis Tunes. Waiters and waitresses are all friendly and kind. They all made sure drinks were full and we were happy. Definitely worth the visit.
My dad likes old school stuff a lot and I do as well. He kept telling me about how nice this place was and treated me for lunch. He was absolutely right the place is beautiful inside and takes to back to the past. The burgers were huge and delicious as well as the fries. The milkshake was yummy. Had a great lunch and nice experience eating here. We be back one day for sure.
Just had breakfast there this morning. Sat where ever I wanted. The 50s style decor and music was fantastic. Service was fast and waitress super friendly. Huge selection on menu along with menu of specials. Food was OUTSTANDING. I could see others interact and it's obvious they have a lot of friendly return customers....I think I will become a "regular"... Great food, great service, great atmosphere, great experience!!!
my only complaint is that it closes so early, i wish that it was open a little bit later since it would also be popular later in the day. i remember when me and my mom would go after my music lessons when the music store was open there, and i would look forward to it everytime. but since it closes so early we’ve only gone once or twice in the pst two years.
It is closer to High 99 in Manteca, off Main St. The food were great and large in portions. I had the New York steak on fresh homemade hoagie bread. I ate only half and brought the rest of it home. Yum. The place played 50's and 60's music, wife enjoyed singing along. Sorry, served Pepsi - I am Coke Cola man.
Service was friendly and quick!! Blueberry pancakes and where nicely sized,There Breakfast Burrito was delicious. Can't wait to try them for lunch.
Food quality here is better than most breakfast establishments. Service was great. It was pretty cold inside when we went (late morning on a warm day), but that may be the preferred environment for the majority so cannot count that too harshly. Go and enjoy the decor and the outstanding food, take a sweater just in case.
Went for breakfast 4th of July morning, while hosting family from out of town. Service was friendly fast and our waitress helped with menu suggestions. Every plate was delicious! Awesome themed decor throughout. We will be back to try lunch menu soon.
I ordered the philly cheese steak sandwich and it was good. Good customer service and I liked the old nostalgic feel of a diner.
Great burgers and their fried zucchini was fantastic loved the 50 diner vibe!
I got the chili cheese dog with garlic fries. Husband got the fish and chips. The chili was a little undercooked and the food temperature could stand to be warmer. The French fries were crispy but the garlic really wanted to be sautéed a little bit, tossed with Parmesan and put on the fries. The cod was needing to be a little less oily from being fried. The milk shakes were the SAVING GRACE here. Old school. With just a few tweaks, this place could be stellar.
Chubby’s is actually a pretty nice diner. Has a classical vibe to it - the tables are very well spaced apart from the seat - so if you’re a bigger person - you should be able to get in just fine. The menu is relatively simple - the service was excellent and our food came out quickly. The portions were great and the prices were fair. I’ll have to add pictures another time.
This service is great, loved the recommendations, atmosphere is pleasing, love the whole 50s style. It was a little cold inside and the bathroom could be a little cleaner but overall it was great and we will be back soon.
Update again- seating got better. Food was never the problem. Breakfast, brunch is always been good Update. Just walked in into chubbys and all booths were occupied. There were plenty of tables in the back and no wait line, I told by a girl with bad acne those reserved for big parties only, it was just my husband and I. We sat at a table by the bathrooms that had cake on grease on the table, we walk out. I was disappointed of not being able to sit at the back tables, I really like chubby and we come here alot. it was so stupid not to let us sit there. I remind you there was no parties waiting and there was a whole row of empty tables in the back. This rude hostess didn't let sit in the back and didn't suggest we can wait for a booth. Alfonso please have a better seating arrangement. brunch at chubby's Diner. delicious! I believe my favorite spot for yummy eggs Benedict, also our second time here and they don't disappoint, service is excellent! everyone is friendly. Coffee is pretty good. love the 50s decor.
Service was welcoming. We came in on Sunday morning and got seated right away even though it was consistently busy! The music was super fun the staff was nice. The food servings were awesome and the avocado was luscious. I love the amount of options there were. Everyone in your party will definitely find something they like here. Also there is a nice big parking lot. Works out great. Definitely give this place a shot :)
Everything is good. Except I'm not a fan of the hashbrowns. And I keep forgetting and ordering it. So that's kind of my own fault. However the omelettes are good and the diner is super cute. All the decor looks like it is for vintage burger spot. Come here for the food, enjoy some awesome decor, and then chow down! And by the pictures, clearly I get the same thing every time ha!
Servers were pleasant ... we had to wipe down the high chair before using it ... table was sticky ... food was average at best. Fries ... yuk!!! So disappointed and will not be going back.
Food is Decent, 3 stars because since Covid their portions have gotten smaller while prices have increased. I'd be ok with the price increase if portions stayed the same. Oh well such is the way of things. Unfortunately my chicken fried steak was undercooked but that's never happened to me before here so we'll call it a one off....
Had chicken fried steak and eggs with country potatoes and a cup of coffee, w/tip $33. The CFS is pretty good, but not worth $21.50, more like $12-$15
The burgers are good and the milkshakes are good. Nothing to really wow you. It's a small cramped themed wanna be old fashioned diner. So if you like that, this is the place for you. It's like Johnny rockets but more cramped and localized.
Sadly it has changed since the move. Staff needs more training, food ordered was incorrect multiple times and had to be returned to kitchen. The environment was nice, 50's style music and setting. Large parking lot, easy access.
Breakfast for dinner. Chorizo omelette. Good taste a little extra spicy. In general very good with hashbrowns just as I like. Crunchy outside soft inside. Iced tea unfortunately tasted like it was from the day before. Old taste. Good service for a Friday early night.
Had breakfast here and honestly it was pretty bad. The "country potatoes" were literally just sliced, undercooked potatoes with little to no seasoning or color. The pancakes were mid, and there wasn't anything else particularly exceptional about this place. Now, maybe there's some amazing lunch or dinner at this place that I haven't tried thats going to blow my mind, and I will happily update my review if that's the case, but between the average service, food, and atmosphere, this place deserves an average score.
Not impressed at all. Service was great, the were friendly and quick. Ordered a French dip. Looked big, long bun but the meat was scarce. Didn't taste fresh? Cheese had no flavor? Looked good but fell short on flavor.
Kids menu is overpriced, hamburger and shake were delicious, took about 25-30 minutes to get the food delivered on a slow day. The waitress didn't bring a straw with the shake, she said hope you enjoy it while walking away. I'm sure it was just that waitress that didn't have a positive vibe. She just gave me a terrible first impression for being here, might come here another time. Would love to try out something from the breakfast menu.
Although the theme was cute and place was decorated, the food was very bland and unseasoned like not even salted or peppered. Service was also lacking it was hard to track down the server no matter how many times you say “excuse me” as they walked by. They rarely checked back in on you after you ordered so I would have to walk up to the hostess counter to ask for silverware and again to ask for my check. Pleaseeeee read the other lower rated reviews they are right!! Food flavorless and music loud!
The food was better quality before covid hit. Got the garlic fries and there was barely any garlic on them mostly just parmesan cheese. When they cost $4+ I wish they were better. Ordered a turkey sandwich and there was almost no mayo on it so it was very dry. Pretty disappointing.
I can't say that the food is bad, but $50 for two people to have simple breakfast isn't great. I noticed the sandwiches are around $15-$18 but the fries cost extra. Yikes 😬
We went with a party of 9. It took a long time till we got our food. Our daughters hamburger got forgotten. The vegetable soup ist NOT vegetarian and has chicken in it. Food itself was ok. Omelette was very good, hamburger not so much.
This place is whack!! I mean, the decor, booths and vibe is aight! The server was coo. But the food sucked and didn't look appetizing. My wife's French dip meat was old. The bread wasn't toasted well!! The color looked whack. My country potatoes was whack. My eggs benedict sauce was chunky instead of creamy. My water was aight. I ain't going back.
They made us wait to take our order for awhile. Then when we needed something it took longer. The waitress gave attitude so we asked for the manager & waited an additional 45 min. to an hour. The food was skimpy especially the salad (all lettuce w/one small slice of tomato) & the chili had too many onions. It wasn't a good first time experience but it was my last one.
The place was just ok. I have previously worked at a 50's diner and this place had some issues. First issue, when someone orders a Shirley Temple, you put cherries in it. Second issue, I had the menu and was looking for shakes and malts, which are not on the menu. So I asked the server about a dessert type menu and he said there isn't one. For a place that has a light up sign that states Shakes and Malts, and the people sitting across from us clearly drinking a malt, and for Google to have a picture posted of a malt menu, why were we not given a menu for that? I can see the shake machines clearly on the counter. Was it that we were there at noon and the place closes soon and no one wanted to make them for us? We ordered and shared a breakfast item and a lunch item to try. The Chicken Fried Steak with Eggs and Hashbrowns was fine, cold but fine. The Patty Melt was good. The Loaded Fries though..... who uses shredded cheese to melt on anything? It came off in clumps. Shredded cheese is coated with corn starch to keep it separated. Because of that it doesn't melt. Loaded Fries should have a nacho type cheese used, or a shredded block of cheese would melt great too. The atmosphere was good. Really long booth seating. The only condiments on the table was salt and pepper. No extra napkins, one one napkin each. A light up sign that says Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner Served All Day..... it closes at 1. Maybe that shouldn't be up there. Overall, this place could be great, but it's not there yet.
Its Sad that such a great environment is followed up with poor leadership and bad service it turns a pleasant morning into a nerve racking hassle. Ive been comi g to chubbys for over 10 years when Leo ran this place the food was better and service was great because it was family. Now the food is mediocre and they forget to make it for u sometimes.
The food used to be really good -sized portions good size hamburger patties the restaurant is nice and clean and it looks really good inside but now since they moved the buns are not as fresh as they used to be they changed the recipe on the bun the patties are like in and out patties they are really small patties and the portion of french fries and hash browns are a lot smaller than they used to be and the personality of the employees is not the same. It used to be more friendly.
Suzie was Amazing, very kind and thoughtful, fast and efficient. The omelette was good. But very small. Charged $18.94 for a tiny little omelette. That’s the reason for the 2 star. Pretty shocked when I got the check.. lol…?
I ordered biscuits & gravy scrambled eggs w/cheese sausage and bacon. It was quick but probably because it was just frozen food to begin with, the taste was ok at best so the price for something like that is a bit much had it been fresh it would have been much better. gonna try a Philly next time
Very disappointed with meal. 2 of us and cost over 50.00. Ordinary breakfast only 1 with meat ordered. Food quality less than warmed up leftovers. We will definitely not return here. Waitress was very friendly and atmosphere was interesting but no reason to go back when the food is actually better at a drive through.
Very disappointed with our experience. The music is incredibly loud. We asked them to please turn down volume, and they insisted this was not possible...what? Having a conversation was difficult and staff was unwilling to accommodate. Ordered the avocado toast and it was awful. Zero flavor, my "toast" was just pieces of bread, and the tiniest amount of avocado did not even spread across the bread. You guys can do better. This was embarrassing to bring people from out of town, have a crappy meal and very loud music blasting above our heads. Not coming back. This was my last visit to Chubbys as each time we've come here, the food is sub par. Don't bring guests here.
This is the very first time that I have made a review on a restaurant. Me and my husband eat out quite often. I understand that not all restaurants can be 100% all the time. However, we ordered from Chubbys today, I have to say the food he received was absolutely disgusting. I don’t want to seem like a drama queen, but the food was SLOP!
Yikes! Get out your bank account. $12 for a shake?! I get a much better deal at Rick and Roll ice cream parlor. Then $18 for a sandwich without chips or fries. Fries are $4 extra. Spent $75 for one shake, three sandwiches, and a serving of fries. OUCH! Then there is a tip. Food was good, but not worth the cost. The servers were very nice.
Food was ok, bacon was burn to hard crisp, Belgian waffle was missing whipped cream, serves sucked. This was the second time I came and food was missing items. Definitely will go to Denny's or ihope instead even tho I hate giving corporations my business and try to stick to small business as much as I can ☹️
Awesome if you like food poisoning. The waitress was rude and seems to enjoy singling out the disabled. The meals looked half ass put together and tasted horrible. The employees wouldn't even eat from there.
Tries this place for the first time. I got the classic eggs Benedict and the banana nut French toast. The sauce that goes on top of the eggs was rancid and grainy and the country potatoes where just all skin. The French toast tasted like they were store bought. I really love breakfast and this was a huge disappointment. How hard is it to make breakfast?
Not feeling like I wanted to make breakfast this morning. So I start to browse on DoorDash for some breakfast for me and my family. I see this place food looked delicious so I start my order. I ordered a omelet for myself it gives me an option for cottage cheese instead of potatoes I'm on the keto diet so I can't have to many carbs. So I chose the cottage cheese for my side dish for my children i order from the kids menu waffles with egg and a side of bacon and for my husband I order French toast two eggs and 4 slices of bacon 🥓. Okay so my order gets here pretty fast. I look at my order not happy with the amount of food for the children more like pea size amounts okay think fine tast my omelet it's ok nothing to rave about I open my cottage cheese go in for the bite immediately spit it out sour nasty gross tasting 😰🤢. I'm thinking ok I understand I myself used to be a restuarant hospitality manager so I know that sometimes things get over looked. I quickly call this restaurant and ask for the manager I was placed on hold 30sec host tells me the manager Is on the floor. Again I understand so I leave a message about the incident and my number so the manager can call me back.I never did get a call back very bad for business.
Wow, it’s been awhile since we have been here. Unfortunately, apparently greed has set in. Prices have grown faster than inflation and and quantity has shrank. I got the Philly cheesesteak and literally had only a couple bites of steak in it. Morning childrens chicken nugget meal came literally with just a couple of French fries and supermarket bought dinosaur nuggets. My family and I will not be coming back. It’s sad because we really used to enjoy this place but now price vs value is horrible
I don't know what happened to this place. The AC was out but no big deal. Only we waited 15 minutes before someone asked for our drink order. Our food took over 45 min and people who sat after us got their food before us. My poached eggs were rock hard. My son ordered a plain cheeseburger and it came with cold unmelted cheese. My husband's food was OK but all he ordered was bacon and scrambled eggs so thank God. Our server was nice but not enough to make up for everything else. No discount offered. Just a big old maybe it will be better next time... there will not be one..... In response to their response: I also made sure to take note of the time. We sat down at 1154am (i know because i sent a text). We did not get asked or drink order until 1209pm (I know because then I went outside for a cigarette) and our food did not get served to us until 1252 ( i know because that's when i called a different restaurant and ordered food from them to go). So please don't try to down play your bad restaurant. It took so long that the waited said. And i quote"sorry is taking so long. Everyone is wondering where your food is." It used to be good place and I go to breakfast all over Manteca after church and have never had issues like this. If you're not capable of handling a Sunday rush you need new management. Clearly from your response you just choose to cater to those without standards.
The service was good at first but then when we decided to take our food home to finish instead of paying for another tiny side of peanut butter our servers attitude completely changed and she became really rude. The food is mediocre and over priced. The pancakes were tough to cut and had no flavor. Iced coffee was good.
