Pollos el Tío Mexico Reviews
Highly recommended for a guilty pleasure; good and tasty, it has a voice
Great food and excellent service from Tío, they also have another branch outside the plaza where the food is just as excellent!!
Mandatory stop, by the pension
Here, Fede bought his packages
El Tio is located in the plaza across from Unitec on Oat Street; the stand outside is no longer there. El Tio has always been a guarantee of flavor and quality. It's not for nothing that it's been in business for over 20 years. Eating there definitely takes me back in time, bringing back wonderful memories in every bite. Their food isn't greasy but is full of flavor. There are different combos to order; their signature dish is chicken strips, but they also have hamburgers and hot dogs, and even salad if you're craving them. Their prices are reasonable, as the portions are generous. Anyone who has studied at Unitec South Campus surely knows El Tio and recommends him.
Since I was at the University with my husband they have been the best, excellent service, very tasty food and at a good price 😋
100% recommended. This is my first time here, and we'll definitely be back. The burgers are delicious and they have a generous portion of fries. Uncle is super friendly, and they serve you very well. It's a shame the place is a bit hidden; they could use a little more advertising outside.
I was looking for them with nostalgia (I've known them since my high school days at UNITEC and I've been craving them for a long time), and I was so excited when I saw a branch in Letrán Valle, which is sadly closed. :( I hope I can order from the Avena branch. Cheers!
Uncle is the best... Since my wife and I went to college, they've been serving us, and they're the best. 👌🏻😁😉 Good luck, Uncle, Aunt, and Cousins...
Excellent service. It's been a taste of years, especially the banderillas and ribs, and what can I say about Aunt's sauce? Congratulations!
Good place to eat, they serve their customers very well and are concerned about giving you good service, a wide variety of foods to choose from, located in an excellent place and quite affordable prices
I'd been wanting to go to a chicken restaurant for a while, and I was swayed by TikTok reviews, but I ended up even more hesitant. The place is located inside what looks like an industrial building. It has the same vibe as the "freak plaza" in downtown Mexico City, with lots of tables in the center, many stalls around it, and no vendor is allowed to approach customers. Instead, customers go to the stalls they choose and buy whatever they want. This is a drawback for the service. It's not that I wasn't treated well—in fact, they were very friendly—but this "freak plaza" model is more about competition among the vendors than about the customer's experience. For lunch, I tried the "Paquetío grande" (3 chicken strips + fries), and considering the quality, price, and quantity, I wouldn't recommend it. I was expecting juicier chicken, a more flavorful breading, and crispier fries, especially since we're talking about a dish over $100 MXN competing against $90 MXN set meals that include water. The Hot Pollo stood out more than the other set meal; it's a very unique option that gives the place its identity. Surprisingly, the chicken strip was tastier and went better with the bread, plus it looked better on the plate with the corn dog. As for the sodas, I absolutely do not recommend them. I'm sure there's no legal limit on the price of a soda, but paying $30 for a 355 mL drink makes no sense when the other stands offer infinitely better options. All of this comes down to the service. It took them about 10 minutes to call our food, they never explained that there were condiments at the counter so I could add whatever I wanted, and they didn't give me napkins or cutlery either, because the "freak plaza" model restricts them. Regarding the ambiance, I have my doubts. The upstairs business had loud music, making it difficult for diners to converse. The chairs and tables aren't comfortable; only two people can sit at a table, some are fixed to the floor, and if you go with friends (which makes perfect sense since there's a university next door), you can't sit together. Although I did see who I assume is El Tío, and he served me wonderfully, I didn't feel the location did the restaurant any favors. In conclusion, Pollos de El Tío - Avena falls short in terms of value for money and overall experience compared to other chicken restaurants. Their effort in service is hampered by inconsistency, and while the chicken is good, it could be better to solidify the identity they've maintained since 1999.
