I love diners and this place is one of the better ones. Service was prompt. Our food came quickly. Great breakfast and lunch suggestions and most entrees are by under $13.00. My Philly Steak sandwich was tasty and came with a huge plate of fries. My wife had a chicken wrap with chips. Lunch was $36 plus tip. I will be a regular when I am in this area.

Been eating here since '07. Food always fresh. Fresh produce and brioche buns and proteins. Decent portions. Service is always quick. Never a long wait. Laid back dining.. No hurry, never was rushed out.

This is a nice diner tucked into a strip mall. Ample parking and a reasonably large menu. We all had different things such as omelets, pancakes, oatmeal, and hashbrowns and biscuits. The biscuits were home made as was most everything else. The food was unanimously enjoyed and the service was fast and friendly.

Stopped here after my OB appointment and was not disappointed with this local joint. Ordered fried eggs, sausage links, French toast with strawberries, a side of hash browns (not pictured,) and I left completely satisfied. Coffee was great too! Our waitress Bella was very sweet & attentive. Will be back again.

This cozy little spot is now my new go-to breakfast and lunch spot. You have to be an early bird as this place gets packed fairly quickly. Still, the food is amazing. I don't know how they do it but the service is quick and the food is cooked to perfection and the portions are a good filling size. The staff is friendly and it's an all-around great place. I highly recommend the French toast, the chili, biscuits and gravy, home fries, the Manhattan breakfast, la grande breakfast, and the mushroom Swiss burger.

I just love this place. Ever since I moved to USA I go this restaurant.... I love the food, the place, and the service. I don't have much to say, only that I love. I recommend to all who wish to enjoy a delicious breakfast. In particular I want to thank Judy for sympathy and education when attending to me.

Great stop for a casual, delicious and healthy lunch. Several Mediterranean dishes, and lots of fresh fruit and veggies options on the menu. Our party had the Mediterranean salad, BLT and club sandwiches and all were delicious and generously portioned. Highly recommend!

I always enjoy having breakfast here. Today was no exception. The food was awesome as always. And my server Anna was amazing. She had a genuine, beautiful smile and positive attitude that just made me feel so welcome and at home. Although I don't get there too often, it is one of my favorite places for breakfast.

One of my favorite Mom and Pops in town. The full serving of biscuits and gravy is one of the best by far. The service is great and the place is roomy and well decorated. It has a very homey and comfortable atmosphere. Prices are fair for the portions. You wont go away unsatisfied.

This place may not look like much, but WOW are they fast and really good. I got a chicken sandwich and fries for lunch, and my husband got the chili omelet with home fries from their all day breakfast menu. It was all delicious! I also love a good french fry and these were amazing!

We had a group of 4 for brunch/lunch today at Honey Tree. It was the first time any of us had eaten here. It was fantastic. Three of us ordered from the breakfast menu and one had a lunch item. The food ranged from omelets, pancakes, an egg sandwich and a cheeseburger. All the food was outstanding. Our server was very pleasant and accommodating. We will definitely be back to explore the wide variety of menu items that they offer.

Really good service! Everyone there was polite. The food was very tasty. I had the Greek Omelet, and was pleasantly surprised that there was actual gyro meat in it. Judy V., our waitress was kind, personable, and attentive. I will definitely be coming back.

Honey Tree Cafe is not fancy. It’s a comfortable, welcoming, neighborhood cafe with great food and friendly service - rather a hidden gem in my opinion. I just finished enjoying a very early dinner consisting of lemon-chicken soup (my favorite) and an entree of liver & onions with mashed potatoes and a side of gravy. Now, not everyone cares for liver. It’s not particularly difficult to prepare, but do it wrong and you end up with something as tough as a rubber boot. This chef knows his stuff, because the liver was slightly pink and fork tender - absolutely perfect! Kudos! We have been patrons of the Honey Tree Cafe since it opened in 2005, and feel fortunate to have such an establishment practically sitting in our neighborhood. We’ve eaten breakfast, lunch, and dinner here, and have never been disappointed - and the menu has a wide variety of options from gyros to omelettes! (Be sure to check out their whiteboard listing specials as you enter the restaurant!) Don’t expect glam or fancy touches, but count on a tasty meal in pleasant surroundings, prepared and served by friendly people.

Great breakfast and lunch place. Went on a Thursday around 11am and the place was packed. Took a few minutes to get a server, but once we ordered everything came out pretty quickly. Pancakes as big as your head! Took my college kid out for brunch before I left town. They wanted chocolate chip pancakes. They loved them! They had a giant take out box full of leftovers for the next day. I ordered the gyro. My only negative comment is more of just a personal preference…. I wish the fries were more like a natural cut fry. (I’m not the biggest fan of the batter dipped seasoned fries.) But, everything was fresh, cooked properly and served quickly! Prices are very affordable and food was yummy! Our server Maria was very sweet and attentive even during the rush!!! The place was packed ( a great sign!) and clearly many of the guests were regulars. The staff was on point, and the wait was not long, even though there was a huge line when we arrived! Staff operated like a finely oiled machine. Kudos to every single one of them!

Let's say most of the time we come everything is great! We come very often Ashley is a great server (We go to so many places) she is very attentive and welcoming and very knowledgeable of the menu, she seems to have to multi-task alot to help others out because alot of them are standing and talking, we have had a few bad servers which we have learned to just ask for Ashley. You can see that some servers are just worried about talking with one another and even just with one table...rather than what is needed to be done. I would also like to say dont come on Sundays they have a different cook in the kitchen and the food is just not okay, everything is sloppy and burnt and it seems when you ask for something to be fix the kitchen has an issue I seen it sitting at the counter.. this is not fast food dont just slop the food on a plate make it look nice.

J
John Klosner

Honey Tree is a great diner type experience. The food is crafted around many years of menu development, meaning that all the food is really good, and they've evolved each menu item to the best it could be. I have not had a bad meal here except a dinner special that I should have known better, a chicken/biscuit/gravy item that was just wrong. SO, anyways, the food is really good. Come and enjoy a menu where everything is good.

Really nice spot, glad they're open for dinner too (except Sunday). All your standard diner items, plus specialty sandwiches and gyros. Great prices too! Everything's around $8.50 for lunch and dinner. Little cheaper for most breakfast items. Can't wait to go back for more.

Best breakfast I have found ,they serve extra large eggs which I have never found in any other restaurant,I also had sausage links, they give you 4,they were cooked perfect and very tasty, the potatoes choice was my only concern,I prefer grilled potato's and these are fried,on another visit I had the hash browns I liked them a little more, coffe is very good, had a nice bite like I like it,all servers are are friendly and helpful, thank you for the best breakfast I have had in many years, look forward to trying lunch and dinner

E

I was in search of a good salad in Sarasota and stumbled across Honey Tree. Some previous reviews mention the Greek salad so I thought I'd give it a try. The salad with plentiful, fresh, and well presented. I added the filled chicken to make it a 'mediterranean' as they call it here and the chicken was very good and affordable (about $13 at the time of this writing). The homemade dressing has a slight pink color due to including beets in the blend. And it comes with some pita! All in all, a fabulous meal at a very, very fair price. Honey tree is laid out a little like a diner. It's nothing fancy but they're not trying to be. That's the point. Good honest affordable food. Worthwhile for a casual visit.

What a pleasant surprise! Needed breakfast yet didn't want to pay a fortune nor fast food and wanted menu options like healthy or grits. <wink> Honey Tree Cafe not only offers Ashley as a terrific, conscientious server ... <applause> ... but also quality decaf coffee, a delicious Greek 2-egg Omelet with fresh spinach, good-to-the-last-spoonful grits (note empty bowl in photo) and finally lots of toast options without extra charges. Cinnamon-Raisin toast is such a pleasant change for me. Honey Tree also has a terrific, experienced short-order cook because delivery of the food to table was expedient! Lightning speed so nice and hot!Amazing! Atmosphere is uncomplicated and welcoming. Staff chatter is actually enjoyable since all positive. <smike> They follow Covid safety too. Thank you Honey Tree Cafe! Made my day!

We were looking last minute some where different to eat before we went back to our room. We found this place 30 minutes before closing time. Even though they had already been getting ready to clean up, they welcomed us in and were very nice. We made sure we ordered something quick and easy. We had Gyros, chicken strips, and fries. Our food and service were both good.

There was a few of us working in the area from hurricane Milton, early in the morning and we were hungry and there wasn't much around to eat so I picked the honey tree cafe out of a few other places just because of the name. We were so glad we did, the food was very plentiful for the amount that they gave you and the quality of the food the taste of the food was excellent. The attitude and the fun time of the people serving the food taking the orders was fantastic. We've made this our favorite in the area anytime food to go for and have visited this place numerous times. Definitely well worth the stop.

It’s so rare these days to find an eatery that captures the charm and convenience of a diner from childhood. Honeytree is where I go when I need to be comforted. The food is great. Always fresh. Always tasty. The staff is friendly and helpful. The place is cramped with tables, kitschy art on the walls, bustling with the voices and bodies of people who have been coming here for decades. I treasure this restaurant in a way so few places touch my heart. Whenever I have visitors from out of town, I bring them to Honeytree and they feel immediately at home. The pancakes are the best I’ve ever had- lacy, soft and slightly sweet. The portions are huge. The coffee is strong and always hot. I’ve been in Sarasota for 3 years and have come to Honeytree more times than I can count. Please never leave us, Honeytree! You’re all that’s good about America.

Excellent food great presentation, waitress Kelli was very good but didn’t make eye contact at all the entire time. I attempted to speak to her once because I enjoyed myself so much and she acted very strange moving away from the table without acknowledging me fully. She was very busy, either way I thought this place was top tier in all else and service was great too! Taking awhile to swipe my card so that I can leave though.

The food was great here! And the house coffee delish. Had the chicken salad pita and it was so tasty, the coleslaw was sweet just how I like it. The decor could be updated here, a little new paint would go a long way, i would love to redecorate! The service was good, little Mom and pop business, I like going to places like this.

I've been coming to the Honey Tree for years everytime I'm in town. I was excited to bring my son because it's my favorite breakfast restaurant in Sarasota. I don't know what happened today, but it definitely WAS NOT the usual deliciousness, and I was embarrassed to recommend it to someone today. My son is allergic to lettuce, so he ordered his Club Sandwich with no lettuce and the cheddar cheese. It came with lettuce, and oddly, the cheese was shredded. We sent it back, and we're pretty sure all they did was take the lettuce off and bring him the same sandwich because most of the shredded cheese was missing from the part of the sandwich where the lettuce had been. Again, my son is ALLERGIC to lettuce, it's not that he doesn't like it, so he couldn't eat it because lettuce will make him ill. A restaurant should understand food allergies. I ordered a ham and cheese omelet with a side order of Hollandaise Sauce. I always order the same thing every time I come to the Honey Tree because I love their Hollandaise, but not today I didn't. It tasted flavorless and the texture was chunky and thick... definitely not the usual Hollandaise. I didn't eat any of it beyond what I dipped my fork into it to taste it. I let our server know it wasn't good, and She apologized but just gave us our check and didn't take the 3+ dollar upcharge for the Sauce off the check. My son and I were at the first booth by the cashier station trying to have a leisurely breakfast and conversation on his one day off that we can visit. It was really difficult to hear most of what he was saying to me because the cashier and 2 Young Men were gossiping and carrying on so loudly that I couldn't hear over their boisterous behavior. They also barely acknowledged the customers long enough to stop talking to each other and greet them. It kind of felt like they thought we, the customers, were a nuisance because they looked annoyed when they had to do what is presumably their jobs. The cashier even had to tell one of the guys to be quiet while She was on the phone. It may have been just an off day, but it was off enough that I won't recommend them anymore, and I doubt I'll be back because it was a phenomenal waste of my time and money. Now I have to still buy my son breakfast because we can't safely say that he won't get sick if he eats the sandwich, and honestly who wants to have their cheese sloppily fall out of their club sandwich because they used shredded instead of sliced cheese?

I don't get it... I read the reviews, and needed to try it out. The atmosphere is simple family comfort, the menu very sparce and typically mid-western faire.I tried the Greek Omelette and it was undercooked and almost tasteless. The French Toast looked smallish and not wonderful. The server was fast, friendly and running like crazy to keep up with the patrons steadily streaming in. Sorry, folks, not going again... oh, and the coffee was so-so as well.

Nothing special on the menu and what was there didn't taste great. The waitress was nice and did her job well, though. Very basic stuff with quaint simple decor. Simple is the best word to describe this restaurant, but not in a good way.

J

My experience may have been just a bad day but it was really bad. Stopped in after the lunch hour. There were only a few tables occupied but no one greeted me or gave me a menu. I finally flagged a waitress and got a menu. I ordered a grilled cheese and tomato sandwich with cole slaw as a side. My food took a while and when I received it, there weren't any utensils. I had to flag my waitress again and ask for a fork. She dropped it off and walked away. I bit into my sandwich and immediately realized it was ham not tomato. It had taken so long to get my food that I didn't want to send it back. So even though I am primarily a vegetarian, I ate it. When my waitress came with the check I told her about the error. She admitted that she wrote the order wrong. This is a pleasant looking cafe. I had not eaten there in a couple of years but previous visits were always good. However if my current experience is the new norm, I will not be eating there again.

Really not impressed. Food mediocre, service was friendly but not priority. Drinks not kept full at breakfast. Small coffee cups. Charged $2.50 for chocolate chips in pancakes. I've never been charged more than 99¢. Charged to add onions to potatoes. Good thing it was breakfast. Probably would have been charged extra for dressing for a salad. Food (eggs) has an old greasy flavor. If you don't want frozen fried potatoes, get shredded potatoes. Pancakes were tough. Very hard to cut up. Bacon was precooked. Just wasn't impressive. Then cashier was taking to go orders, instead of taking care of the people standing in front of her. "Hostess", was seating people, and not in any hurry about it. She could have taken the to go orders, or cashed people out. When I asked for a receipt, I was told next time ask for it ahead of time. I told her, this was my first time here. May or may not try again. Overall, Not Impressed!

This is a nice place with friendly staff and a good place to go with friends or family. I can only give it two stars, however, because the food has always been terrible when I've been here. I went last week and got sausage gravy with two eggs over medium. The sausage gravy was tasteless and the two eggs were petrified to the point that I had to peel the brown skin off just to eat them. No chef with any integrity would have even sent that out. But I go for the company of friends and didn't want to make a scene. We still had a good time and the service was good. They just need a real chef.

I’m a avid breakfast eater but this was a waste of good money and time I don’t know what’s in the grits they’re greasy and yucky the eggs was fake and biscuit was darker than me

I am a local and go this place often, although I think I won't anymore. I am astounded by the lack of service and the lack of caring. They have a large staff, but most often, they are just standing around talking instead of refilling coffee or water, or acting like they actually care about their customers. The food is wildly inconsistent. Some days it is delicious. Other days, order the exact same thing and it will be burned. I mean you can smell and taste and see the burn - it's not subtle. Yet, still the cook sends it out with no embarrassment or concern. Toast is completely black, eggs are burnt brown. Then the waitress serves it with no concern or embarrassment that she's serving a burned meal. This happens way too often. Probably 50% of the time the meals are great, 50% they are horrible. Most concerning is that no one cares! This restaurant needs quality control more than almost any other place I can think of.

Food and service are usually great. I ordered to eat-in and one to go. On my order, I asked for Texas toast. I completely understand any up-charge, of course. I placed the two orders and the server came back and said they won't substitute Texas toast so I left. They lost two orders, the server lost a potential 25% tip. (I have no doubt I would have gotten good service.) They could have upcharged on the substitution. Sounds like a great business model and a bit of arrogance. I went to Katie's where you get what you want.

Wow has this place gone down hill. Maybe they changed hands. Got a takeout order, two Omelettes and a drink were $27. They didn’t even bother toasting the toast. Food was terrible. When I called to tell them how disappointing the meals were, the woman who answered said she was sorry but didn’t know how to rectify the situation. Maybe it was her first day in the restaurant business!

On June 17th I came into honey tree to have breakfast. I paid by credit card. Upon seeing my credit card charge, the restaurant charged me twice for my meal of $17.53. I called the restaurant to notify them of the overcharge and they told me I would have to come in. On June 20th I came into the restaurant. I even waited a few days to see if it would be corrected on my credit card. The owner was not there. The staff was very friendly and wanted to help me. However, even after proving with the original sales receipt and showing them the credit card charge. There was no refund given at that time because the owner was the only one who could authoritize a refund. She had to research the issue and will get back to me. As of this afternoon I still have not received a call from the owner about my refund. I have gone to this Restaurant for many years. However I will never walk through the doors again due to the poor and unacceptable way the owner is treating my issue. If you're going to have a business and run it effectively, you should always have somebody on staff that can handle situations like this, so your customers are not inconvenienced when proven they were overcharged. Shame on you Honey Tree.

Food had been really good (one exception being spoiled bacon) and we do go here often, as it's close to where we live. The staff in general are usually pretty good but we recently had an experience where the waitress didn't take her order down correctly and then was going to charge us more for what we actually ordered. Small dogs into the restaurant and let people from New York seat themselves and skip the line with no repercussions. I say from New York because those are the only people that would actually do this.

What a disappointment. We are regulars. We drop no less than $100 every time we walk through the door, and never tip less than 25% on top of that (often considerably more). But today our server wrote our order down incorrectly, then refused to fix it. What does toast cost? About 8-10 cents a slice? And a pancake? Around 20 cents per pancake with labor included? And you risked a customer that spends thousands each year? Not very smart. Even if the error was our fault (it wasn't), the decision doesn't make business/financial sense. I don't care about the pancake. I'm disappointed with the poor business acumen. I found out today that my business isn't worth 10 cents. Duly noted for next time we're deciding where to go. Sincerely, A local multi-business-owner with standards

I’m also a business owner, and I know how these reviews are looked at. So we got the “new guy” and I’m all about the new guys! He was so nervous he spilled a very large cup of ice water on me, I mean I was soaked, the wait staff gave me some dish towels to sit on since our order was already put it. Then the order was wrong… okay not a huge deal. At this point I’m laughing about it. Why am I giving 1 star ⭐️? Well how about the owners of this family business never approached the table, not once! The one server was eating and licking her fingers behind the counter and then serving food. I get my check $30 not a bad price for breakfast for 2, but no compensation for the fact that I stayed wet and cold and still ate there. So I’m waiting for just one of the owners to come over and apologize ask if everything was at least good with the meal or maybe comp the coffee that could have been in my lap instead of water…. No one came. I made eye contact yet again and gestured for one of the managers to come over to my table. I let them know that they need to do better as a business that they need to be able to approach the customer when they know that something went wrong with the service. I didn’t care about paying the check I didn’t want compensation but But what would you have done as a business owner? My sever was so sweet and apologized so many times, I didn’t blame him. I even went as far as to tell him that he needs to have a little bit more confidence when serving he’s a nice guy and he’ll do a great job!

My first and last time there! Biscuit & Gravy is terrible. The biscuits were not made fresh. They seem to be the frozen flats like you would get at Sam’s club, gravy was from a can. However, bacon was good and crispy.

My friend and I went for breakfast yesterday, Sunday. While eating breakfast I ordered two salads, two Club Sandwiches to go for lunch today. I suddenly remembered to ask if they had put mayonnaise on the sandwichs. I asked if the sandwich could be remade because my friend is allergic to mayonnaise. The cook sternly said no, he refused to remake the sandwich because he said: it was already cut and ready. Even though the food is good there, Sadly, I don't think we will return, the cook as no respect for other people's well-being. The cashier did remove the price of one Club Sandwich.
