Jamaica Kitchen Miami Reviews
Jamaica Kitchen is a solid hole-in-the-wall spot if you’re looking for real Jamaican food. The flavors are authentic, portions are generous, and everything tastes like it was made the right way, not watered down for tourists. It’s the kind of place where the food speaks for itself: hearty, well-seasoned, and comforting. If you want genuine Jamaican cooking and don’t care about fancy décor, this place absolutely delivers.
I recently visited a vibrant Jamaican restaurant in Miami, and it was a great experience. The location is take out only but they do have a few high top seating outside. The staff was friendly and attentive, eager to share recommendations. They have a wide selection menu and grocery items that you will be sure to walk away with some of your favorites. Overall, great food and exceptional customer service.
The curry goat is incredible. Clean well seasoned and delicious. Hole in the wall with umami flavor.
I first heard about Jamaican Kitchen over a decade ago when I was still living in New York and saw them featured on the Food Network. I remember telling myself, I have to check this place out next time I’m in Miami! Fast forward to today—I now live in Miami, and after growing tired of the usual food options, I started craving the variety I had back in NY. A quick search led me not only to Jamaican Kitchen—the very place I had bookmarked years ago—but I was shocked to find it just a two-minute drive from my new home! Since then, it has become an absolute staple for me and my family. Their go-to favorites like jerk chicken, stew pork, and escovitch fish are always on point, and their variety of patties never disappoints. Pro tip: Always go for the dinner portion! Even though I could easily inhale it all in one sitting, I try to save some for later because the flavors only get better. The sides? Perfect. From the sweet plantains to the rice and peas and even the steamed cabbage, everything tastes just right. What really makes this place special is how much it reminds me of Jamaica—Jamaica, Queens, that is! They even sell plantain chips, Shirley biscuits, and Blue Mountain coffee, just like I remember. Beyond the food, the owners are incredibly sweet and always treat my daughters kindly, often offering them fruit snacks. Now, my girls get mad when they find out I went without them! Bonus: Melvin the cat is super friendly and always makes our visits even better. Highly recommend this spot for authentic, delicious Jamaican food with a warm, welcoming vibe!
Came to Miami looking for the best ackee and saltfish and or cow foot- my two favorite jamaican dishes. And of course! In tru Jamaican fashion, they didn't have either. So I had the callalloo and saltfish with boiled provision. It was good. Solidly good. My mother had the oxtails and she loved them. Being as though I'm visiting from California, we got a lot of food to try. I'm giving five stars based on the red pea soup solely. I am a self proclaimed red pea soup fanatic and I thought I already tried the best there ever was until I came to this restaurant. It was seasoned perfectly and the meat was cooked and seasoned perfectly. The beef and cheese patties were very good and flavorful too. The crust was soft and had a sweetish tinge. The vibes were pretty immaculate and I could tell they're well respected in the community based on how busy it was. The staff were personable and friendly . I am also giving five stars for walking in to Gregory Isaac's playing - Night Nurse. Will def be back!
I am not a local. They had take out orders a plenty while we were there. They also have outdoor seating where I ate this. My brother in law is Jamaican and said this is the closest thing to authentic as it gets in Miami. I agree. Its a very interesting menu. Jamaican and Asian Pictured is the goat curry, and it was delicious.
I wish I could give this place more stars, it’s incredible!! Their patties are insanely delicious, so flavorful and feels like home cooked food. The spicy beef and chicken curry were our favs, they are large enough to share or the perfect meal solo, and only $3 per patty! Their jerk chicken meal was amazing as well, huge portions, comes with rice and peas, and fried plantains. The staff was so friendly. Dreaming of this place already!
Let me start by just saying that this is the first time that I've ever had jerk pork fried rice and it was both the best fried rice and best jerk pork that I've ever had. This food was so delicious. The patties were wonderful and the curry oxtail was a first, but definitely won't be a last because it was lovely. Good pricing, great service, and glorious food. Did I mention that the portion sizes are very generous?
The food here is so good. It honestly threw me off because it was 2 asian people behind the counter but they had deep jamaican accents. They have a sign above the register that says "Yes We Are Jamaican" Lol They were really nice and the food was so good. Got 2 beef patties and jerk chicken dinner. I will definitely be back when in Miami.
Da best place for Jamaican food, by far! Love the patties and curry goat and curry oxtail... everyting is excellent. It couldn't be more typical Jamaican, served by the nicest people <3
Real authentic Jamaican food. Every staff member treats you like family. Affordable pricing. Perfect place to go for a quick lunch meal, call a head that way you won't have to wait. Lunch time is always their busiest.
Great curry oxtail and rice and Peas. The patties were also delicious, my favorite was the meatloaf and the curry chicken.
Walking into Jamaican Kitchen felt like I was walking into my mother’s kitchen. Perfect spot to grab a delicious plate of Suey Mein and the best Jamaican patties in all of Miami! Definitely coming back again. Thank you!
I ordered Jerk Pork , the food is well seasoned and the meat is nice and tender. I love the ambiance of the place, reminds me of Jamaica. The customer service is welcoming as well.
I've only had the patties from here but them being the best patties I've found in South Florida is worthy of the 5 stars by itself.
I never understand the bad reviews lol. I’ve been here for over a year and it never misses. Great people at the front and the food is even better. Delicious brown stew, oxtail, curry & any chicken. Thank you 😊
My son Daniel from @DanielsCoffeeCo was invited to Miami, Fl to meet the publishers of his new book. He was told Jamaica Kitchen is amazing, so he gave it a try. The Mein Chow Soup was hands down his favorite! The staff was very friendly and we got to meet their cool black cat “Melvin”. Please support this Restraunt and enjoy the food!
This place never disappoint! Excellent patties and curry chicken/goat. If you’re into Jamaican food- this is the place to be at in south Miami/kendall area
Great experience. Greeted with nuff smiles and positive vibes. It was hard to find good Jamaican cuisine in Miami. Especially since I moved from Brooklyn, where there are great Jamaican restaurants in abundance. The food is top notch. Must try
Got take out from this cute spot for the first time and the food reminded me of being back in Jamaica. We ordered the jerk chicken plate with rice & peas and plantains; the Chinese chicken plate with white rice and plantains; 1 spicy beef patty and 1 mild beef patty; and rum cake. All delicious! The service was also very kind and friendly. :) thank you!
I came here twice during my visit. I ordered the oxtail stew plate and a pea soup. We also got jerk chicken dish and everything was delicious!!! The service was extremely friendly as well. A gentleman there who looked busy didn’t wince when I asked him for recommendations. He worked yet still made me feel like I didn’t bother him at all for a quick question. Seems like a favorite for locals too. I’m going to miss this place as a tourist.
We went to Jamaica Kitchen for the first time today, everything was absolutely delicious. We were the last customers before they closed, and actually stayed after. Everyone was so nice to us and our two kids, and got us treats and extra food in the end too. They told us they were catering for Rita Marley during the holidays! A must try and we cannot wait to go back!
The only place that tastes just like Jamaica! Ox tails, stew beef, beef pumpkin soup and do not forget bc you can never go wrong with the spicy Jamaican patty!! DELICIOUS 😋
Delicious and authentic Jamaican food served with a smile. The meat patties are great and so are the lunch and dinner meals- jerk chicken, brown stew chicken and more. Plus lots of products from Jamaica for sale including a great selection of hot sauces.
Real authentic Jamaican and Chinese Jamaican food. Great selection of. Every was perfect. I recommend the Chinese chicken, pork & Hamchoy and last but definitely not least is the curry oxtail. Oops I forgot to speak about the Patties and Plantain Tarts…delicious! Don’t forget to pick up your Jamaican sodas & fruit juices - June Plum is on point. That’s not all get your plantain chips, breadfruit chips….
I got food from Jamaica 🇯🇲 kitchen today for the first time. Let me tell you the food is absolutely delicious 😋 the patty are the best I've ever had the customer service top tier. I got cowfoot w/gungo rice&peas, curry oxtail, jerk pork, beef soup, chicken & beef patties every single thing was absolutely AMAZING delicious 💯. Today was my first time and I'll be back I live 1 1/2 hours away when I'm in Miami it will always be my go to as of now!!
This is the best Jamaican beef patty I’ve ever had. I tried the spicy 🌶️ and it was perfect; Not too hot to enjoy the rest of the flavors. The shell was crispy, flaky, and delicious. I will be returning.
I've been coming here for years. The curry Oxtail is AMAZING!! love the patties. Always had the spice beef but today they ran out and had the curry chicken. Wow. Thats my new favorite. Staff is always super friendly!!! If you are in the are its a must place to eat.
Incredible food, hot sauces, and people! Went here yesterday for the first time for a quick snack. I got one vegetable patty and brought it out to my car to eat. As I was in the parking lot preparing to drive away, I took a bite. It was so good I ate the whole patty immediately, and went back in and bought another and a bottle of their house hot sauce. Highly highly recommend!
Husband and wife run restaurant with fantastic food, and amazing customer service. We ordered the Goat Curry, Jerk Chicken, Curry Ox Tail and more...all were sooooo good. Oh, they have a small selection of groceries too.
Ordered my food online. Finding the place was super simple. The staff at the register was so friendly and accommodating. Offered advice on next steps for ordering next time out. Needless to say, their reputation proceeds them, their food was fantastic! Worth the trip to go there for authentic Jamaican cuisine!
My first time dining experience at Jamaica Kitchen was great. I tried their curry oxtail and it was really delicious! The meat falls right off the bone. Food portion for a large was on point. The restaurant was packed for lunch. I am going to be a regular customer. Thank you for the wonderful first impression!
Amazingly great stew oxtail (curry). The oxtail was fall off the bone tender, one of the best oxtails we've ever had at a restaurant. The jerk chicken was ok, chicken breast is kind of dry, and spicy (it is jerk after all). The spicy beef patties were good but frozen ones from Costco are just as good, wish there was more filling. Definitely worth a stop for the stew oxtail
All I can say is WOW. So I love watching Diners, drive in and dives. Guy featured this place on an episode and I also follow a south florida foodie that features different places in south florida and he raved about the curry oxtails. I have never had curry oxtails. Only the traditional oxtails. I live in Ft. Lauderdale but will drive anywhere for good food. The drive today was soooooo worth it. The curry oxtails are past amazing. I got a quart, and three different Patties. My god, I see why this restaurant was featured. My family and I are going back down to Kendall next weekend just to get away and we will be back there. The only oxtails I want are curry now lol, thanks to Jamaica Kitchen. Amazing food, courteous service. I can’t say enough good things about Jamaica kitchen. I saw reviews where people travel far to come here. I’ll be one of them. Outstanding.
This place is legit! Probably one my favorite place that we ate in Miami. Food was so delicious. Got me thinking about it and wished there was one near me. I got the pork belly and muknee, goat curry, and oxtail curry. The people and service was great. I'm not sure where else I can find Chinese Jamaican dishes. 😋
Coming from NJ where we have plenty of authentic jamaican food, I will say from what I've eaten, it was the best jamaican food I've tasted. I was a little discouraged about it being authentic bc I didn't see any jamaicans. So I just ordered a curry chicken patty. That was so good I decided to go back in and give the curry goat and shrimp a try. Needless to say both were delicious! The goat didn't have alot of bones like other places and it was the most tender goat I've had. Im upset this was my last food stop before departing back to NJ. Wish I had time to try other dishes. Sorry the patty was gone b4 I could take a pic.
As a Jamaican myself, I've never felt more at home than here. The mix of Jamaican and Chinese cuisine is sublime and the tastes invite both nostalgia and bliss in every bite.
I LOVE THIS PLACE!!!!!!! From the moment you walk in you are greeted by a warm and friendly smile! This place is the best tasting Jamaican Chinese restaurant I have ever eaten at! The food was seasoned just right and was delicious! I really didn’t want to eat Jamaican food while I was in Miami on a four day stay but ended up eating here each and every day!!! The patties were delicious, the goat was the G.O.A.T and the curried oxtail was incredible and the homemade sorrel was amazing! I really wished I lived closer because I would be there every day!! If you’re looking for amazing Jamaican food this place is a must!!!!
100% authentic Jamaican cuisine. I had the stew peas with white rice & plantains. It was amazing, came with traditional pig tails, spinners, white rice and some nice fried sweet plantains. Washed it down with fresh coconut water. Also had a spicy Jamaican beef patty, this is as good as it can possibly get. 10/10 for the food and 10/10 for the service from this friendly family owned business. I can never visit Miami and not patronize this Loverly establishment. Good food, good service, clean, fully stocked. If you’re in Miami and need authentic Jamaican food, this is place to go.
Holy smokes! This place is amazing. Same great flavors I’d expect to find in Jamaica without the long plane ride. Everything from the curried goat to the fried plantains to the salt fish and ackee was superb. Wash it down with a cold bottle of Ting and you’re in business. Worth the stop and worth the hype.
First time trying Jamaican food, and I really wasn’t let down. The restaurant is extremely authentic and the staff was incredibly friendly. Also they were very helpful and showed care in helping find what food we would best enjoy. Great little place and would definitely recommend trying it out!
Oxtail, jerk chicken and curry goat must I say any more. Love this place authentic to the core. Best Jamaican food down south!
Not sure if the patties are homemade but they're really good. I had two while I waited for my food. If you're planning on going during your lunch break, it's best to order ahead. The seating is fairly limited but the majority of people order to-go. Good variety of popular Jamaica dishes. @pandaportions
Have been eating there since the 90's and the food is soooo good and authentic. Love the curry goat!! Patties are awesome!
Love this place. Jerk chicken, curry chicken, curry pork, coco bread and patties are delicious. Great selection of soups too. Highly recommend.
Honestly, I walked in and walked out the first time I came here when I noticed Asians running the place and not Jamaicans. Not that I have a problem with Asians, just want AUTHENTIC Jamaican food that tasted as if it came right out of Jamaica! Well when I came back the second time, I decided to give it a shot! OMG!!!! I’m kicking myself for missing out the first time lol! This was by far one of the best jerk chicken dishes I’ve had! It was very flavorful and the price was fair for the amount of food! The restaurant setup and layout screams Chinese but the food is very much Jamaican!!!
The food was very good and the portions (not a bad thing) were way too much.. I made two meals out of dinner. I went back a second day before leaving. The RuM cake was fantastic, im going to call and see if I can have it shipped (VA) to me. That cake, oxtails, Goat.. ooo weeee, next time I'm in the MIA, im definitelygoing back . 💜👊🏾🙏🏼
I ordered the jerk pork first time ever, It was delicious. I am just sorry I didn't go there years ago for the jerked pork or chicken. Spicy meat pies are good also. IREE
I’ve been to almost every Jamaican restaurant in Miami. This place takes the crown hands down! From the super friendly staff of ladies working the front to the most flaky and flavorful spicy meat patty and finally the succulent jerk chicken that was seasoned to perfection! I can’t wait to go back and try the oxtail.
Food is always soo good. Nice sized portions and great patty selection
Absolutely amazing food and fresh Jamaican meat patties. You haven't had a Jamaican patty if you haven't had one from here. That's what I learned at least. Incredibly sweet ladies and good food. A great local business to support
So happy after I found this spot!! Ate a veggie Patty with coco bread and drank a kola champagne… heaven. My partner got the jerk chicken plate with rice and peas and he thoroughly enjoyed it! Service is efficient, quick and friendly. I almost didn’t want to write this review because I wana keep the spot to myself for my own selfish reasons - mostly because that coco bread was so nice and warm!! I highly recommend this spot.
Consistently some of the best food in Miami. Their menu is properly reflective of Asian/Caribbean food and they even stock some of the favourite snacks and seasoning from the Caribbean. If you’re lucky, you can also find a pack of genuine Jamaican Blue Mountain coffee beans at the counter.
Fuy x mis empanadas favoritas
Delicioso amo la comida jamaicano es muy rico se los recomiendo mucho 😋
Lo mejor en savor jamiquino
Bueno.
Excelente
I was in the area for a medical appointment and used my GPS to find any restaurants close to where I was. A few came up, but being that I'm Jamaican, I chose this place and I must say, I was pleasantly surprised! 😆😁 It's a small setting that feels like a little piece of Jamaica. And something about Asian-Jamaicans adds another level of spice to the place. Everyone was so nice and helpful. The shelves were fully stocked with authentic Jamaican items. The meatloaf was fresh and warm. The stew peas was delicious with a generous portion. And the plantains tasted homegrown. I would definitely recommend this place to others looking for delicious, authentic Jamaican food! 👍🏾
Love the patties so delicious, crust was perfect reminds me of the ones from Jamaica, only thing is they need to put more beef inside. The meatloaf was perfect. The bread was soft and warm, the beef was seasoned well. Overall i enjoyed my meal.
Wah gwaaan! We came for the jerk and curry and was quite impressed. The jerk fried rice was yummy. The curry goat was excellent. The establishment is small and offers outdoor seating which was great. Don't forget the hot sauce! Ya mon!
I saw this spot on Diners Drive-in and Dives and had to check it out. The food was Great! We had the Curry Ox tails, regular Ox tails, stew beef, beef patties and stewed pig tails (Everything Guy recommended on the show) was Great I took of a star because the cabbage wasn't seasoned and the beef patty wasn't spicy as advertised. Overall Great Food. Will definitely stop by again.
3 stars feels too low but 4 seems a bit high on my scale. I would say a 3.75. This is a solid little spot in the south miami/Kendall area, don't think there are other Jamaican restaurants in the area to be honest. The staff is super friendly. Food/flavors are okay, rice n peas is kinda bland ro me and patties do not have enough filling. Jerk chicken had enough spiciness that didnt overwhelm and was moist but kinda lacked that jerk flavor, curry chicken is pretty good. Havent tried the oxtail yet. A bit pricier than other spots. Although not my first pick or favorite spot for Jamaican cuisine. It is nice having this option when I'm in this area. If you travel all over dade, you must try silver spoon in cutler bay, the patty place (only sells patties) in Miami Gardens and the Dutch oven (several locations). Jamaica kitchen hits, but not as good as those other spots. Nonetheless, I continue to come here and have been for years. Nothing like supporting a small business 😌👌🏽
Intro: it was decent. Pros: -curry chicken was good -the presentation of the food was great and it wasn’t sloppy. -big portions -they had a wide drink selection. -price was good for the food. Cons: -the jerk chicken was mediocre at best. Great portions but that is it. -price was expensive for the drinks. Overall: I would recommend the curry chicken. They do have other things to try
One of the better Jamaican restaurants in Miami, especially outside of the far north, or far south of Miami. Located near to Baptist Hospital and Dadeland Mall. They have just about every Jamaican dish that you can imagine and the food is pretty good. My favorite dish there is the curry goat but everything that I have had there is good. No broad beans in the oxtail though, like my Mom makes it. Maybe a word or caution for those of you that are price conscious, but Jamaican food isn’t cheap anymore, anywhere.
Absolutely delicious, home style dishes, served with size- and side- options. Always fresh and hot, lots of favorites from our repeat visits. Aside from the always delicious beef patties, my favorites are the fricasse chicken (brown stew) and the suey mein. Also delish are the curries and the jerk pork/ chicken. Nice selection of Jamaican kolas and other drinks, and lots of sauces, mixes, and spices to try your hand at home cooking. Love this place and the super friendly staff.
I have tried Jamaica Kitchen in the past, I wasn’t disappointed. Today I stopped in to satisfy my tastebuds for Oxtails. I chose the dinner plate with the Curried Oxtails, white rice and plantains. I awaited my total, I wasn’t given one- I thought to myself the oxtails must be an all time “market high” LOL…I wasn’t given a receipt so I asked for one. She told me my total after I paid and printed a receipt for me. A bit shady but that’s ok, I should have inquired. The curried oxtails are pretty good, nice curry flavor. Food is presentable and plantains are lightly done for my taste, I like a little charring on mine. The Oxtail plate cost $27.82, a bit pricey for me but also explains why she wasn’t eager to tell me that. If you’re going to charge $27.82 I want to see some oxtails on my plate not mostly bones and broken up pieces. I will recommend Jamaica Kitchen generally if you’re in the mood for some Jamaican food in this area. They also sell Patties($3) they are pretty good as well. The customer service is consistent - the owners are courteous.
My wife and I were visiting from California for a week and tried their food a few times. Great food and friendly staff. However, I am only giving three stars because they don't include veggies, despite the fact that the menu photos boldly advertise the meals as being served with veggies. When I asked one of the young ladies about this, she shamelessly confessed that the photos were taken with veggies "just to look pretty". In other words, she admitted to deceiving her customers, also known as misleading advertisement. I doubt if she is aware of this, but they may be exposing themselves to litigious charges of misleading advertising. Shame on Jamaica Kitchen for engaging in deliberate deception. I would never recommend them because of this. What else could they be misleading their customers about? Also, I did not like the fact that they put oxtail gravy on our jerk chicken and pork without first asking. Not every Jamaican likes oxtail gravy on their food. People are more health conscious in the 21st century. Update 10/16/2019: Looking at some of the other reviews, I noticed that the owner only responded to positive reviews. It says a lot about a business when they don't think it is necessary to address legitimate concerns from customers who have patronized their business.
Got a $30 dollar plate with rice & peas, oxtail and 2 sweet plantains (there were small and thin). The rice and peas were decent nothing special just rice and peas. Felt like the oxtails were small and with not much meat at all: flavor was good. Waited around 15 mins for the order.
I had high hopes for this establishment. I traveled down to Miami from Atlanta and made it my purpose to stop by to try a few items. The jerk pork fried rice was actually good. I just wish some sort of sauce was available to add to the rice. I also ordered the jerk chicken but I was not satisfied at all. The chicken wasnt hot nor did it taste seasoned at all. Maybe Atlanta has spoiled me but I was expecting more. I'll try it again next time.
The rice was off the goat was tender nice spice level but the portion Size small for the price of 30$ the lower ratings pin point the portion size in the pics, patty and coca bread also expensive but ok, wouldn’t return
Food is good sometimes.. I went after a Long day at work happy to spend 60 on 2 plates just so I don't have to cook. Got the ox tail dinner and curry chicken lunch.. the oxtail was super cold like they had it in the fridge and rice was warm... the curry was ok but it was hot thankfully .. rather spend the money at a restaurant with quality service and hot food.. then go back to this place.. guess they serve. Used to love this place guess they stop having pride in there service so
The portion sizes were underwhelming, especially considering the price. It felt as though the restaurant prioritized profit over providing a fair and enjoyable experience for their guests. I would not recommend this restaurant for large group gatherings unless pricing policies are clarified in advance. There are many other establishments that offer better value for the price. It cost a whopping $272.85 not including tip of 15% which was heavily “suggested” which led to around $314 for a request of 12 people for curry chicken and 12 people for oxtail stew with only 3 quarts of food for the chicken and 3 quarts of oxtail.
On a recent purchase of two "Fricassee Chicken Dinner" meals from Jamaica Kitchen was quite surprising in terms of the cost. At $18 per meal, the value proposition seems questionable given the relatively basic components - chicken, rice and peas, and two pieces of plantain. While I understand the current inflationary pressures, the pricing of these meals appears to be disproportionate to the actual contents. The meal itself does not seem to offer anything particularly special or elevated that would justify such a high price point. Based on the value-to-food ratio, I would not recommend these meals from Jamaica Kitchen. The cost seems exaggerated compared to the simple, straightforward nature of the dish. Customers may want to reconsider their options or look for more reasonably priced alternatives that provide better overall value.
This was the worst Jamican food I ever had, chicken friccase and rice with pigeon peas. Food was tasteless and bland. The daughter have a cat outside, touching it and feeding it and going inside the resturant. I give 2 stars because the patties were hot and fresh.
🤢 food sucked wasn't seasoned right.... no where near the amount of what you get from (DONNAS) IN FT Lauderdale... I gotta stress this Chinese people been stealing jamaican culture and this damn sure ain't it.... i got a $12 lunch special and 4 patties 3.85/each and paid $34 .... high way robbery!!!!! It's only one owner who was jamaican that was decades ago they have run this place to the ground! Go To Donnas in Miami gardens/ FT Lauderdale it may be far but with it and it's cheaper.
This is very bad for 20 $ they put the main dish on the two sides spot and the sides on the main dish spot then they give you Like one small piece of goat and chopped it up if I would have seen this before I left I would’ve have given it back and said no thanks wasted time and money for satisfaction I should’ve went bk to the Cuban restaurant and walked away happy don’t waste your time pick wisely ask? Before any thing cabbage not even cooked very hard ect never ever ever will stop by there again Chef Ramsey needs to help
I wanted some oxtails so bad and this restaurant came ip when I searched for them. I ordered 2 plates of oxtails and 1 of curry chicken which totaled about $70. I’m like okay long as it’s good I didnt care about the price. When I got my food I was very disappointed. There gave a little bit of oxtails no meat on the bones and it was NOT SEASONED. at all the same with the curry chicken. Not to make it about race bc I know there are white Jamaicans but these were white ppl making Jamaican food. There was no pigeon peas and rice no macaroni and cheese and the cabbage was steamed. 😒 they do Saran Wrap the food which I though was good so it doesn’t spill but I won’t be going back there. In fact I went to another Jamaican restaurant right after bc I still wanted those oxtails and you can see the huge difference. (Food on the left is JAMAICA KITCHEN on the right is JAMAICA HOUSE)
My first impression walking in was like everyone else's (I thought this was a Jamaican spot?) Any way, we were super tired (coming from a 5 day cruise). I ordered some beef soup since they didn't have any chicken soup. That was a 5/10 at best. Needed some flavor and some spice. Also ordered some stew chicken for my kids and my husband. The receipt said fricassee chicken, not the same as stew. Neither my kids nor my husband liked it. We should've turned around when we wanted to. Nothing authentically Jamaican about this restaurant except the inconvenient seating. FYI, I'm fully Jamaican, born and raised! Dem nuh ready!
Want an honest review? I Was so disappointed when my “brown stew chicken” was really Caucasian simmered chicken. Then the “cabbage” I was charged an extra $1 for was really just dry coleslaw. This place is more of a Caribbean ingredient shop. Even the plantains were off. 👎🏽
Just ordered for pickup 2 oxtail dinner platters,, to my surprise oxtail was more comparable to Beef Jerky!! Huge Let Down.. and for the price of $27 each made it feel a little Depressing. PLEASE JAMAICAN KITCHEN STEP YOUR QUALITY BACK UP TO PAR.
We just came from this place and we are extremely disappointed. Rice and peas was salty,no cabbage with our order, jerk chicken wasn't spicy (more like stew chicken) and on top of that they don't chopped up in pieces,ox tail was extremely hard and barely eatable sorry. Basically only thing good with our order were the patties and sweet plantains. 7/20/2019 We drove a long distance,if not would had taking our to go order back to the restaurant.
Ordered the Jerk Chicken Meal. Absolutely no good! The chicken had zero jerk spice and no flavor. If you neglect to jerk the chicken, at least season it well. Underneath the chicken was a pool of oil. There was no char on the chicken and It's obvious the chicken was baked in the oven and not on the grill. The rice was tasteless and barely any peas. The plantains were over cooked. I usually order from JK when I visit Miami and always had a great meal. Is it an off day? a new chef? or is popularity making them complacent?
This place used to be really good. I gave it a try again last weekend and the curry tasted old. Figured it was a fluke, and gave it another try. Got the jerk wings. Did not taste fresh as well. Wouldn’t recommend
As a Caribbean I was absolutely livid with what was supposed to be a representation of Jamaican food. Coming from out of town for business and decided to stop before getting back on the Turnpike was the biggest mistake and a waste of $60. If you are a true Caribbean and enjoy Caribbean cuisine, this is absolutely not the place. I really wish I could give no stars….highly disappointing Every last bit went straight to the trash 🤢😤🤬
Well l had the displeasure of choosing to purchase lunch at Jamaica Kotchen Decmber 3rd 2024, first of all the food was served to me COLD. Secondly, the lady at the register was very condescending when l told her thaty food was cold. She stated that the food had been sottong there for awhile. She too lie l just placed the order and waited outside. Also, since the food critic guy was there years ago they slacked off as l was told. My jerk was baked chicken. And the red pea soup was awful wasnt fresh at all the rice was mushy. Even after the food was reheated the young lady gavee a mean look. The food was given to the garbage. Shame on you all l wonder what the kitchen looks like. Stop selling food that doesn't meet the standards of a real authentic Jamaican Restaurant and treat your guest better. I guess you talk so much at the register 😡 until you dont care if your customers are haply with the service or the food. Lastly not one of your staff had on gloves or a hair net. SMH l wonder if the food critic is coming back?
HORRIBLE!! Don’t ever go here if you want “authentic” Jamaican food! The place in itself is super claustrophobic and not clean it smells like old oil and curry that’s been sitting and fermenting! The customer service isn’t great the cashiers always have attitude for everything even if you’re just simply trying to order. The Jamaican patties taste like cardboard and never have enough meat in them! The cake they serve is clearly store bought from the Winn Dixie cause you can tell it’s not homemade. They resell food at a higher price that isn’t worth it! DONT EAT HERE! Unless the health department goes with you then maybe you’re safe! This is coming from personal experience and I’m a resident of the area and have even taken my family there and I can’t tell you it is far from worth it!! You would think after all the years they’ve been there they would step it up but I guess not!👎🏼
Wow. I am appalled. I wanted Jamaican food due to me having a huge craving for some, and currently pregnant. Firstly, there’s no Jamaican individuals working there it was only Hispanic individuals from what I could see. Secondly, I asked for rice and peas and the rice taste like Spanish rice, I’m Hispanic so I know what Spanish rice taste like. Thirdly, the place is super small with about 5 feet of walking space. Fourthly, for whatever reason the Jamaican patty was green. Lastly, the cabbage had no seasoning. I found this restaurant on instagram @jamaicakitchen with the caption stating they were on food network with guy fieri which is a personal favorite of mine so ofcourse I wanted to try, what a mistake… Unfortunately I live about 30 minutes away and do not want to make the drive back up for a refund but I will definitely never be coming back, this was crazy.
Went for Jamaica patties and they were very disappointing. They weren't spicy at all and flavorless. Maybe it was off day but would not recommend for patties.
Ordered cow foot meal and it was so nasty, old and flavor less. I think they gave me reheated food because it looked burned. Never again. So disappointed. I had to throw it away. What a waste of my money. Zero stars. Order at your own risk.
