Came here with a small group then with a very large group and both times the food and service was top notch. The pizza was thin, crispy and delicious. Had a savory sauce just how I like it and the coal fire oven brought it over the top. I also had their pasta which was excellent! This may be my new favorite NYC pizza/restaurant spot!!

A notably fun spot for a large group. We celebrated my friend’s birthday here with a 20 person reservation and had a blast. The staff were friendly and helpful but SLOW. Understand it’s a big group but we didn’t get our food until 1.5 hours in. Still would give 5 stars because their pizza is phenomenal! Perfect ratios of sauce to cheese to toppings with thin fluffy dough. Lastly, we did BYOB wine but they charge a $20 corking fee or require purchase of their prefix menu which we were not made aware of prior.

Staff was very friendly and service was quick! My daughter loved her lasagna and the pizza was great, crust was perfect. Was cash only when we went, not sure if that is standard but was not listed on the menu.

The food was absolutely amazing, and the services were fantastic! It was such a delight to sit outside and bask in the beautiful weather. I had a customized pizza that was simply divine. It was the perfect way to savor the pleasant weather and enjoy a delicious meal. The crust was perfectly thin and crispy, and the toppings were fresh and flavorful. Every bite was a burst of savory goodness. The staff were attentive and friendly, making the dining experience even more enjoyable. I can't wait to go back and try more of their delicious menu options. The restaurant had a charming atmosphere, with outdoor seating surrounded by lush greenery. It was the ideal setting for a leisurely lunch or dinner. The service was prompt and efficient, and the servers were knowledgeable about the menu. Overall, it was a memorable dining experience that I would highly recommend to anyone looking for a great meal in a beautiful setting.

Really great, unique neapolitan-style pizza. Pictured is the “family” size half-Diavola, half-Giuletta and a regular San Daniele.

My favourite restaurant in NYC. This is true authentic Italian food. I have tried 90% of the famous pizza spots around the city (and many across Europe and Italy) but in my opinion, this is the best. The nduja pasta was also incredible. The service was fantastic, the staff showed me and my family the traditional pizza oven and took the time to explain the Numero 28 history and family heritage. All the staff are super friendly, offering me and my family a free dessert which was a delicious chocolate cake. The photos do not explain how good the food is! 5 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟

I ordered the N28 Gnocci and Margarita Pizza, they were both exceptional. I’ve never been to Italy before but all of my friends that have been there and have been to Veintiocho say that it is the closest they’ve had to authentic Italian pizza. The staff are very polite and efficient. The atmosphere is very nice, however, because of how small it is seating is a bit clustered, can get really loud, and if you are seated by the window and it is cold, not a great feeling. This is my favorite Italian restaurant on the East Coast.

Absolutely blown away with every aspect of our dining experience this evening. Cozy, warm and welcoming. Pizza chef checked on us as we were near the pizza oven as did 2 other employees during our meal. The pizza crust was light, flaky and cooked perfectly. We did a family size? And had 2 different style pizzas in one. Delicious!

Greeted with all smiles at the door; even though we had a reservation at a different Numero 28 they still seated us. Phenomenal food; follow their recommendations and you will not go wrong. Pizza has the right amount of crunch and was a perfect mix of salty and savory. Pasta is al dente to the T. Atmosphere is like a family hall, very lively.

Delicious, authentic Italian style pizza! We loved both the bufalo pizza and the numero 28. Also, the family size pizza is massive. The service was great and they brought us complimentary desserts for my birthday.

Pizza: very unique and authentic Italian. It’s the type of pizza that you’ll find in the Salerno/Amalfi Coast area: crispier than a Neapolitan one. Very tasty. The atmosphere: it seems to be in Italy, well done. Staff super nice and friendly. It’s cash only, just fyi.

We stumbled across this beautiful restaurant by accident. The day was cold and drizzling; we’d been looking for a pizza by the slice place, but decided for a restaurant where we could sit down and get warm! From the first, we were welcomed by a wonderful server. The atmosphere was buzzing - there were couples and tables of families who were laughing and eating and having a wonderful weekend lunch. We couldn’t believe our luck. The three of us shared a long pizza which tasted authentic and delicious…and we’ve spent a lot of time in Italy. Best of all was the wonderful attitude of the people we dealt with. They showed us kindness and helped us overcome a small problem which had the potential to derail our day. We were so lucky to have found this gem of a place.

Quite possibly the best gluten free pizza we’ve had. Flavors are impeccable and the sauce is absolutely fantastic. The only recommendation I have is to provide a bit more toppings in terms of volume. If you like Caesar salad, it’s a must try as well. Extremely fresh and homemade dressing.

Amazing authentic Italian experience. You can really see the attention to detail in every single thing at this restaurant from the wine to the decor to the salads and pizza. So much to say! Stumbled upon this place and so happy we did. Many places in the area were closed or booked. The ambiance was perfect from the get. It was bitter cold outside yet it was so very warm in here! The server was unreal....quietly, attentively stood nearby and waited until we were ready. The food was fantastic! The salad fresh, the gluten free crust was unparalleled (and I have had many!) It was still tasted completely authentic Italian! You won't be disappointed!

This is the best pizza in the city without question. Anything else you try will pale in comparison and you will be left with an aching void where there should be the most perfect pizza. It’s really not even a contest. All others should bow and scrape to be considered in the same category. Bring cash or use their atm. Ridiculously good and absolutely necessary to visit.

Meal Type: Birthday Dinner - Group of 4 Ambiance: Perfectly sized room, with coordinated wooden decor and high ceilings to give a rustic Italian look. Numero 28 could add music and I wouldn’t hate it. Food: slight miscommunication from the get go regarding BYOB. If you bring Wine you HAVE TO get the pre fixe of $45 per person. We wouldn’t have done this option but ended up with it and I think we ended up ahead. The pre fixe came with: Piece of bruschetta: 4/5. Tough to mess up. Large Salad for table (arugula and artichokes): really good! Actually large. Dressing was awesome. Two Pastas I. Tagliatelle alla Bolognese: very hearty. They did well with flavorful sauce to overcome the bland pasta due to it being whole wheat II. Cacio e Pepe: Real Talk. Top 3 all time. It was presented in a cheese wheel which is all you need to know. Bread for the table. Bonus points for legit Olive oil & vinegar. Extra bonus points for the red pepper flake Olive Oil. Caution - spicy but worth it.

We had the most fantastic meal for our party of 25 at Numero 28. I was able to preorder with the assistance of the hostess Bora. She provided lovely suggestions and our family from out of town loved the food. We started with hot out of the oven focaccia followed by a savory lentil soup and the most amazing tomato bruschetta. We had an assortment of salads, each of which was fresh, crispy and tasty. Our last course of huge pizzas (each one feeds 3-4 people) - the bufalo margarita, tartufo, vegetariana, and margarita were quickly eaten up by our hungry crew. Highly, highly recommend for a great Italian meal with amazing service!

Wonderful family dinner at Numero 28. Our NYC daughter took us there and it lived up to her very high recommendation! Amazing pizza, great service and wonderful cozy atmosphere. We were fortunate to meet the owner, Eugenia, and she introduced us to several family members who were working in the restaurant. She even sent us complimentary desserts. By the time we left we felt like we were part of the family! We will definitely be back and will also try the other locations.

Went during pride parade and we got lucky, right before it got packed. The food was delicious. I expected very little, but I would come here regularly if I was closer. Not a fan of the lasagna that came out, but my baked ziti was too good. We also ordered the grilled salmon, perfectly cooked. The sweet glaze was a nice touch. Ordered a side of spinach, also no complaints could be made. Overall, I will say the price is high for the sides compared to what you get. You can just fill up on the pasta alone and the visit would've been worth it. The sides aren't necessary, but you'll enjoy them if you get any. This place is CASH ONLY. I had to pay a fee and use the ATM on sit.

It was great, I had a great time. I ordered the ricotta croquette which it was delicious as an appetizer. Then I ordered the white truffo pizza. The pizza was nice and crispy. The cheese meltz in your mouth. You can taste the truffle which is really good. The mushrooms were good as well. The tiramisu was delicious really nice and creamy. Overall great definitely recommend.

C

The food was so good! The 6 of us debated between ordering 2 mediums (2 topping options) or a large (3 topping options) and ended up settling on the large since none of us were very hungry. We ended up loving the pizza so much that we ordered another small! The salads were good but the real standout was (unsurprisingly) the pizza. The service was also excellent! Note that it's cash only, but they do have an ATM in the back. Salad (we mainly got these to feel healthy): - Pere (4/5): The pears were delicious - Carciofi (4/5): Would order again to feel healthy Pizzas: - San Daniele (5/5): you can't go wrong with prosciutto & arugula - Diavola (4/5): felt like a regular pepperoni pizza (but also better than a regular pepperoni pizza) - Numero 28 (6/5): by far the best out of the 3; so good we ordered another small!

My family of four adults initially chose to eat here because it was a quiet sit-down place, but we were all blown away with everything else, too. The staff were all super nice, the food was incredible, and we were all happy and full by the end of dinner. The family-sized pizza was perfect for the four of us; it looked like a lot at first, but we were hungry enough that it went quickly and was just the right amount of food. I recommend eating here!

numero 28 feels like one of those places that doesn’t try too hard because it doesn’t have to. you walk in and the air already tastes like something warm is about to happen. real food. real people. the kind of spot that knows who it is. the pizza comes out looking like it was made by someone who still believes in craft. thin crust. soft heart. little char around the edges that tells you fire was involved and patience too. every bite feels like a small lesson in how simple things can still be beautiful when someone gives a damn. the staff moves with that easy confidence you only see in places that know their worth. not loud. not rushed. just present. they make you feel like you’re meant to be there. like the night is better because you showed up. sitting there, you feel time slow down a little. you remember that life isn’t always about chasing the next thing. sometimes it’s just about good sauce. good company. a table that feels like home even if it’s not yours. i’d give it five stars. not because it’s perfect. but because it’s honest. and honesty tastes rare these days.

C
Claes Sandahl

Just had the most delightful experience at Numero 28 Pizzeria. From the moment we walked in, the cosy atmosphere wrapped us in warmth. The staff were not only friendly but incredibly helpful, adding to the genuine Italian vibe. Now, let's talk about the main event – the pizzas! Each bite transported us to Italy, but the one with truffles? Absolute perfection, and worth every penny. However, there's a significant hiccup that pulls down the rating: they only accept cash. In this day and age, with the digital era well underway, it's baffling to encounter a 'cash only' policy. Most places have seamlessly transitioned to card payments, and for good reason. It's inconvenient to find an ATM, especially if you don't have your debit card on hand, and the extra fees for using a credit card just add insult to injury. Despite this setback, the culinary experience at Numero 28 Pizzeria is undeniably worth it. Just be sure to bring your bills along!

We love their pizzas and pastas. One of the best Neapolitan pizzas in NYC. We love the large capricciosa pizza for the whole family while we also get the tagliatelle-alla-bolognese for our two kids. The ingredients are super fresh and they know what they are doing. We usually take home the polpette de carne (meatballs) for a quick meal at home when we get hungry. Ask for extra sauce which goes great with some baguette.

My friend took us here in March. There were five of us and the small restaurant was able to move tables to accommodate us - we waited for maybe 3 minutes despite it being crowded. We ordered two pizzas to share, and three pasta dishes which were also shared between two people each (except for one, which our one friend ate on his own). The waiter brought out the pizzas first, making sure our wine glasses were filled too. The pizzas were gigantic, they are rectangular shaped instead of circular and they took up the length of the table! In addition to the size, they tasted amazing. I still think about them. One was a white pizza with truffle oil and the other was prosciutto and arugula. Perfectly cooked, the crust was thin but not TOO thin that it would crack. The pasta I ordered was a black fettuccine with shrimp and pesto sauce. Pesto is not my favorite sauce but I was scooping the sauce up with my spoon after the pasta was finished. We were too full for dessert so we opted out. The restaurant is cash only, which they have an ATM right outside in their waiting area, which is very helpful. Love this place!

What a pizza we had a family sharing pizza. And it was huge and really great tasting. It was spilt into 3 sections so we had different flavours over it and made for a great variety. This was also well priced. The staff warm and welcoming with a fun attitude. We also had a bottle of wine which was nice. One thing to keep in mind is that you have to pay cash, but there is a cash machine in the back if you need.

I went of a date here last night and had a great experience. It felt like the hottest day of year so I definitely wanted to take advantage and dine outside after being cooped up all winter long. Our hostess was friendly and very accommodating. We waited probably about 15 minutes before we were seated. And though it is small, they make pretty good use of their space making enough room to dine and to walk through the restaurant without brushing up against other tables and chairs. We also got there close to 10pm so we weren't rushed out. We were able to dine, talk and really enjoy our time. Now onto the food: it was REALLY GOOD! I love brick oven pizza so little wrong can really be done. We had half Margherita and half Numero 28. Both were really good. I look forward to trying one with buffalo mozzarella the next time I'm. Note: it is pricey. They charge $3.50 for a can of orange Pellegrino.. -_-... It really went well with the pizza though. :-/ Tip: They take CASH ONLY.

A bit on the pricey side, but pretty good pizza. my husband enjoyed the meatballs, but it was a bit porky for my taste.

Wasn’t sitting in an hour plus line at John’s so decided to give this a try. Wife’s Gnocchi was very good as was Caesar salad! My calamari was very good and pizza was ok. It was very cold outside on 12/14 and such as small place was effected every time the door opened and then heat turned on and it got really warm. Service was ok, seems like they forgot about us a couple times.

Lovely italian restaurant we stumbled upon yesterday. Friendly staff. Only takes cash but there's an atm onsite.

Great food, fantastic service and wonderful atmosphere. Please note - CASH ONLY (ATM inside restaurant, ATM fee is $4.50)

Better than average village pizza spot. Food is it's best attribute

We had a delightful and delicious experience. Pizza was on point Italian authentic. Service was top notch and friendly. The only reason I graded only 4 stars was because we were not informed until after the meal that the restaurant is cash only. Please tell your guests when they arrive or put a notice on the menu or table.

Decent experience at Número 28, food was okay, we ordered Pizza Margarita and Gnocchi. Service was just OK. Also they accept cash only payment.

CASH ONLY. To our shock at the end of the meal the waitress told us that. There's an ATM in the bathroom but it charges $4 for a withdrawal. On to the food. The reginella is ok but the Numero 28 pizza (prosciutto, mushroom, and cheese with truffle) is absolutely delicious. Plenty of room with outside seating but the service is kind of slow.

One of the best pizza you can get in NYC. Even if busy is worth to wait. Ingredients are fresh and the crust it’s just magnificent. If with some friends you could get the larger pizza with 3 different toppings! 4 stars because of the interior of the place which I’m not crazy for.

The food was good but the waitress provided a VERY BAD service without any attention , she even forgot to bring the things we asked . Very poor service . It wasnt even crowded !

Nice, large pizza. Expensive (but no more than similar restaurants in the area).

The food was good, nothing great, but it's not terribly expensive, so I guess you get what you pay for. It's CASH ONLY, which is ok ... but it only says that in small print on the top right of the menu. They conveniently have an ATM in back ($3.50 fee) for you. That's all fine, but when the check comes, they add an automatic 20% tip regardless of your table size. The line on the bill says for LARGE GROUPS, but we were less than 5. He said "oh, we add that for every table" ... but why does it say for LARGE GROUPS. Does not say that anywhere on the menu and they don't tell you that when they bring you the check as there is ANOTHER section on the bill for ADDITIONAL tip?? That's not all, the tip that they conveniently calculate for you is AFTER TAX ... which oddly, they do point out on the bill where it says it's after tax. They will remove the automatic "tip" if you ask. So the 20 - 30% suggested tip is actually 22 - 33% if you calculate before tax. It's a little shady. Like I said, food is good but read the bill carefully. I bet they get a lot of tourists like that.

Ordered two dishes. The pasta was supposed to be with prosciutto and green peas. But there was very little prosciutto and tons of onion without any evidences of peas inside. The pizza has the same problem with ingredients. Mostly just bread with very little adds on. Service was fast and good but really disappointed about the food quality. Won’t recommend it

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ stars for the pizza. Dont get me wrong, their pizza is phenomenal. However, the service was quite sub-par and they dont take card, which isn't highlighted anywhere. To then have to go into their bathrooms and draw money from their expensive A.T.M machine somewhat tarnishes the whole experience.

I would go here for pizza and did not like the pasta much. The service was good and I had a great time with my company. It’s cash only! ATM is in the bathroom.

The food was very great, the waiters were friendly and kind, but there were 2 things that we didn't like at all. The first was that we bought a couple pizza with 2 ingredients: a cheap one and an expensive one, but the final price of the pizza was the same as if we bought the expensive ingredient twice, it would have been better if they told us while ordering. The second bad thing was that at the moment of payment we discovered that they only accepted cash, it was written very small in the menu... we were forced to withdraw money from an ATM in the bathroom while having to pay a $6.50 fee.

I stopped by here on a whim after looking at the menu online. Menu looked good, so we sat outside... I was surprised to see the dining menu was significantly more expensive than the website menu. In fact it was +22% more? Why? I've never seen this before. The tip options on the bill offered calculated tips of 20, 25 or 30 percent added. So eating in with tip increased my price by over 60 percent! What is going on here? Food was good. I would go back.

Hard to believe, but you cannot pay with credit card :( Food was not that good, the pasta had spinach taste, nothing else. Do not take Orecchiette Alle Rapa, ingredients are different as stated on the menu

Okay this is a very nice modern pizza place with lovely wood panels, mood lighting candles and great atmosphere. When we arrived for dinner (my companion and I) we were seated and have to wait for the waiter to do his rounds before he would get to us. It's only one dude doing the work of three waiters. When he got to us we did our due diligence to ask him twice for the 14-in pizza for like 20 something dollars. I later ordered a beer. And we ordered some sparkling water. When he presented us with the pizza we again ask hey is this the 14 in which he confirmed. We did not ask for a couple pizza or whatever. We asked for the regular 14-in. Said it several times. The pizza although delicious was dry and ask for some olive oil and pepper. Everything we ask for had a bit of a wait time to it because it's just him. He then proceeds to charge us for the large or whatever special that we did not ask for. He corrected it after a conversing on the error. At this point I just wanted to leave in which I had to physically hand him the card so we won't have to wait more to go about our business. This is definitely a managerial issue and avoidable miscommunication. Will not be returning.

Average pizza - really bad delivery. Overall not really great for NYC expectations. I had higher hopes since it was the first place tried during my NYC visit. Ordered online for a 10pm delivery. Pizza wasn’t well assembled and bottom wasn’t cooked enough (had flop) and the delivery driver the restaurant uses (via Relay) apparently drives crazy because the pizza was in shambles when it arrived. Not worth the $45 for the pizza alone + tip. Would have rather gone with somewhere else for first impressions of what NYC has to offer. Just disappointed.

I tried this place because I heard great things in blogosphere. I was somewhat reluctant when I arrived at location because place almost empty despite being a small place. I went anyway and I was so disappointed. It is not authentic Naples style but that’s not biggie for me. What I didn’t like is cheese so watery and sparse. I normally order pepperoni or equivalent pizza so I can compare apples to apples but they have pizza same name as restaurant so I figure that must be best. It’s not worst and passable but cheese not best quality and very little. This pizza has prosciutto and mushrooms which are very good but for a white pizza why so little cheese? Normally, for a mid place like this I’ll give 3 stars but since it’s a cash only establishment, I need to take off another star because who carries cash these days? Cash only policy is only beneficial for owner while giving customers nothing but headaches and inconvenience. Needless to say, I won’t be returning.

Ambiente and Food was okay, BUT THE SERVICE!!! I was there with my Family, and all the Food came After like 10 mins, but Not my mums food. She had to wait 10 more minutes. Also We didnt get any free water and the waiters offered us wine if we give a good feedback online. Overall a 1/5 for me

Whoever owns this place should not let these abominations get out of the kitchen. A $36 Diavola. Really disappointed and a true example of Instagram vs Reality moment - picture of what I got vs what they show

I had a pizza with anchovies Feb 20. The anchovies smelled a bit off but I ate it and got food poisoning, confirmed by a medical professional. Three days of awful symptoms and still not fully back. The brick oven is nice but foot storage counts for a lot. You may doing numero due for a long time after if you’re not careful.
