A trattoria like those of the past. Tables are well-spaced. Simple, perfect dishes. The owners and service are extremely courteous, almost confidential. Highly recommended.
After several attempts, one evening in late August we finally managed to find a table at Paolo Arpesella's Locanda Antica. It's no wonder it's always so busy: this place truly has something special. As soon as you step inside, you feel like you've stepped back in time, into an atmosphere reminiscent of childhood memories, Sundays spent at grandparents' homes, and authentic, unforgettable traditions. As others have pointed out, this isn't just an inn; it's La Locanda with a capital L. Paolo, the host, perfectly embodies the old-fashioned spirit: he welcomes you with a smile, stops at the table, offers passionate advice, and knows how to create that sense of camaraderie that makes dinner more than just a meal, but an experience. The menu is simple and authentic, without frills: what's there, is there. The portions are just right, never overdone, perfectly balanced. You don't come here for elaborate dishes, but to rediscover the beauty of genuine cuisine, made with raw ingredients and flavors that still taste of home. The value for money is amazing: appetizer, first course, second course, dessert, water, wine, and coffee for €30 per person. In times like these, a real treat. I give it 5 stars only because I can't give more. I recommend everyone to stop here, treat themselves to a few hours of timeless beauty, and let yourself be transported on a journey that takes you back to rhythms and flavors that are now rare. Thank you, Cav.! An evening we will cherish forever.
Just like it used to be. An inn with a capital "L." I went there tonight with my daughter and I have to say that both generations left satisfied. The braised beef ravioli deserved top marks. A place from another era that I hope will remain unchanged in terms of cuisine, hospitality, and tradition. I can only recommend it, and I'll definitely be back.
Paolo Arpesella's Locanda Antica, located in Montebello della Battaglia at the foot of the hill, is a veritable institution in the restaurant business. Tradition and quality are reflected daily in an excellent and affordable business menu, and are even better appreciated by dining in this restaurant where time seems to have stood still. Paolo is undoubtedly a true character, capable of advising and entertaining with a great sense of humor. The only sore point, as far as I'm concerned, is his Juventus support.
Simply excellent!!! The cooking is home-cooked and delicious. The roast is incredibly tender (I called it "spectacular"). The wine is also very good... To eat well, you also have to drink well. Kudos to Paolo, the owner, who knows how to put his customers at ease, even chatting a little, which never hurts. We'll definitely be back. I highly recommend it. PS: Reservations are appreciated.
A retro venue, but perfectly in keeping with the structure, the staff, and the food. Paolo is a natural comedian; he'll bring you the best, always making you laugh! Classic trattoria food, almost all homemade, served in generous portions. 2 side dishes, 3 first courses, 2 second courses, 2 desserts, 2 coffees, 2 bottles of water, and one of wine (not in bulk) for only €60! Highly recommended, really!

Very good local food. Very welcoming staff who don't just take orders and serve, but are also open to chatting. The inn is located near the site where a battle for independence against the Austrians was fought in 1859, and which saw numerous patriots, such as Garibaldi, pass through those areas, beyond the two Roman roads. The place is small but welcoming, with limited seating, so it's best to book in advance. The dishes are plentiful and tasty, freshly prepared by the chefs who have been cooking their dishes for years without resorting to gimmicks or pre-packaged ingredients. The food is tasty. The price is around 30-35 euros, but considering what you get, it's definitely worth it! The desserts are delicious and clearly homemade: for example, the tart I had has irregular shortcrust pastry edges, some thicker/wider than others, and it's truly delicious. Highly recommended! Far from fast food...
Abbiamo pranzato davvero molto bene!
Traditional cuisine and flavorful dishes in a welcoming, family-friendly atmosphere. Friendly service makes it ideal for a pleasant, relaxing dinner.
Trattoria Locanda Antica di Paolo Arpesella: Traditional, homemade dishes in a welcoming, family-friendly atmosphere.
A "genuine" trattoria with authentic flavors and generous portions at a fair price. The pisarei and fasö are a bit too red, but the ravioli with stracotto are excellent. The smoked cherry jam tart is truly delicious, something I've never tried before. An experience worth repeating.
Old-fashioned trattoria, it meets expectations, but the menu needs more clarity. The food is good but nothing special... will I go back? Maybe.
We had lunch here today. The food was mediocre, and the portions were too. Ten minutes after finishing our first course, we KINDLY asked the owner what the second course was, and in a gruff and arrogant tone, he replied, "Can't you see I'm talking to customers? If you're waiting for a second course to arrive, be patient. When the first course is finished, the second course will arrive." He then turned and gestured to the other customers in a show of arrogance. I absolutely don't recommend stopping by; I'd rather have a sandwich at the service station. Sometimes a politeness course wouldn't hurt, especially if you work with the public...
