Visiting from Colorado and found this coffee shop on the way to whale watching. Loved it so much we came back two mornings in a row. Hearty and delicious food and good coffee and the best part is the owner/staff is the kindest and sweetest who does everything with care and thought. He even gave my toddler a free hot chocolate 2 days in a row because “ he loves to see smiles”. Love places like this. Where he knows the locals that come by and you can tell he loves what he does. Best of luck to top dog. Thank you for some lovely mornings!

Super chill vibe. The owner is such a lovely man and the cafe is dog friendly. Its beautiful on the inside. There are board games and a good selection of baked goods and drinks to choose from. I had my two dogs with me and the owner came out to offer them pup cups. Such a bonus! Check out the beef garden out back and make sure you stop in next door to visit the brother business next door. Delicious tortas and super good smoothies!

This is always my go to when I am in Morro Bay. The coffee is perfect, the food was perfectly prepared, and the staff is so kind and friendly. Such a relaxing place to hang out in the morning.

Not to mention, their back patio is one-of-a-kind and wonderful place to spend time. I highly recommend this business and can't wait to go back!

I was so happy to see that Top Dog is back, under new ownership! I was lucky enough to meet the new owner, who was very kind. I had a wonderful mocha and a german chocolate croissant, which was amaziiiiiiiing. The new owner was talking about plans for updates. I am hoping that word gets out that Top Dog is back and customers will return to enjoy the coffee and ambiance.

I must state it has been overhauled magnificently: The menu is available with some delicious added specials; beer on tap; homemade pastries, doggy treats; the coffee program is coming back in full swing, including pet adoptions; the iconic Top Dog mural is alive! The inside decor has been cleaned up and very nicely arranged; the backyard patio is clean and dreamier than before. Service was very welcoming. To your table. Nice and comfortable. Whether you are a Morro Bay local, visitor or tourist give Top Dog Cafe Bar & Restaurant a try. Yes there are other coffee bars surrounding. I’ll just call it out - I go to Nautical Bean on Parker St. in San Luis Obispo ( Large& BEST then Morro Bay location); Scout on Foothill Blvd. in San Luis Obispo (Large & best then Morro Bay location). It was the best breakfast burrito I have ever had. - It stuck together without being greasy - The potatoes were fresh - Made with BRISKET - Egg was fluffy and not overcooked - Peppers were mild and cooked well - Black beans were just the right amount without overpowering the burrito It came with a side of pico de gallo which was easily the best I have ever tasted. Somehow the onions didn’t sting and there was a fragrance in it that was out of this world. I’m not exaggerating either. I’ve had plenty of Mexican food having lived in California all my life. The lady who was cheffing it up in the kitchen obviously knows how to COOK🫶🫶🫶🫶

The coffee was smooth, the vibe was chill, and the place is full of happy dogs, it just works! A hidden gem for sure. Much love to the new owner and the Top Dog crew!

She overheard my friend and I struggling to find a place to eat, and not only tried to help us figure it out by giving recommendations, but she ultimately heard we wanted grilled cheeses and she put in a special order (custom order!) for that to the deli next door for us (the deli is owned by the same owner). Wonderful prices too, and diverse menu!

Should definitely change the name with new owner because the vibe is nothing like the Top Dog I remember. Back yard is messy, my mocha was awful. Sadly won’t be returning.

Unfortunately when we came today we discovered the new owners have switched to a syrup for their chai, and it’s not the same at all. Please go back to the spice mix that the previous owners used, my wife and I will come back every time we visit for that. The service and atmosphere were both still excellent and welcoming, and the back patio still has a lot of plants to enjoy.

However, I was so disappointed when I got my avocado toast it looked delicious but when I started eating it not only the bread was old but it was the top and end part of the bread.😡 It was so hard to chew. This place was amazing under the old owners but it has really gone downhill! Today I noticed flies on some of the pastries and there was no soap in the bathroom. Gross! I will not be returning.
